how to send a text to many? also what is direct push..and win mobile 6.. - P3300, MDA Compact III General

3 questions
firstly if i need to send a text to say 3 people who arent in my contacts lists , how do i send to 3 different numbers..i tried today and it didnt work.. what shoudl i do all i did is manually input the numbe with a space between each one
secondly what is direct push tech, im using outlook is it to send.receive on the move wiht a single button ...
heard win 6 is out think i got 5 on my orbit can 6 is easily installed?

Yikes - you're about to get lots of replies saying "search the forum".... ;-)
1. Seperate the numbers with a ';'
2. Direct push is exchange server (MS outlook) pushing out emails. You recieve them like getting a text message. Get your IT admin people to set you up. If you have no IT admin people (or exchange!) you can rent a web service which effectively provides you with an exchange account.
3. You effectively cannot change OS. Should HTC release WM6 on Artemis you will hear the racket from this forum from miles away... . Better for now to forget about WM6. If you really want it, search for WM6 themes which will make your device look and feel like it.
Cheers!

Looking to buy, need advice on Blackberry features please

Hi all, I'm looking to buy either the XDA IIs or the PDA2K. Firstly, which one would you all recommend?
Secondly, my main reason for wanting this is that I have a phone and a Blackberry today (connecting to my companies Blackberry email server). If I go with one of these, will I still be able to collect my company email or do I have to use O2's email service and forward my work mails to it?
For those of you who have used a Blackberry before, how does the BB features on these devices compare? Is it easy to use etc..
Thanks in advance.

There is no difference in the hardware between the XDAIIs and PDA2k except cosmetic differences. the PDA2K is silver and the XDAIIs is black
The differences are in the ROMs which are shipped with each unit, however if you read this site you can find ways of installing different ROMs onto different suppliers machines

There are mixed reports regarding blackberry support. Some people report it as working fine with Blackberry Connect for Internet mail, whilst others report its not working. As long as your BES server supports the client, and your price plan will allow you to connect to a corporate BES server, then there should be no problem.
Personally, I've not been able to get it going, mainly due to having to convince the company to add me to the BES server and also with getting the software talking to the desktop manager.
Thanks for your reply. Yes my first question was mainly around the software but if you can install from one to another etc. then great as from what I have read the PDA2K has newer drivers etc.. for the radio.
The Blackberry piece is what concerns me the most as this is the main reason for getting it.
One final point, I urrently have an iPaq in the car with TOMTOM3 on. Can I put TOMTOM3 on the XDA ok as well?
From your experience, should I buy one of these devices or wait for something better to come out? I head there may be a smaller version of the PDA2K down the line?
Blackberry Attachment Limits (Caveat Emptor)
Just to add to the debate I am on the T-Mobile BB Instant Email flavour service not BES.
It has now become apparent that attachments received or sent using the BB Instant service on my MDA III (i.e. XDA 2s/PDA 2K etc) cannot be above 36kb or something like that. Also it cannot handle scanned documents etc. In my job I deal with 50 page plus word documents so this is a killer.
T-Mobile informed me that they weren't aware of this limitation when selling me my price plan. To be fair they are being very helpful and their customer service is excellent.
We have discussed putting me onto my corporate server (Vodafone BES) which can apparently easily be done (provided we have a licence at the Server level). I will have to see what our IT guy says about that ! There is also a charge though on the device side of £35 per month (the instant email is £10).
T-Mobile are also checking whether there are any inherent device/software restrctions on attachments on either the Instant Email or Enterprise service. I cannot believe this is an inherent device issue, as Rim hardware is much less sophisticated than the Pocket PC version.
The moral of the story is check the small print and the service very carefully.
Anyone's help and advice would be appreciated.

I currently have an xdaIIs, which I got a great deal on with O2, but in hindsight and if you can afford it, I would probably go with the PDA2K. Reasons? Well it appears that iMate are quicker to come out with ROM updates and fixes and it seems as a result these device are a bit more stable out of the box. The xda IIs with O2 Active interface on is particularly unstable and O2 (and most everyone on this forum) recommends using this device in 'corporate mode" This is simply done by selecting the corporate mode option when prompted toward the end of the set up process. This deactivates the O2 Active interface and makes the device more stable (i.e. less soft resets needed)
On Blackberry service, I had used it exyensively on my old xda II with T-Mobile USA. I was using the BWC rather than BES version and found it to be very fast and reliable. A couple of problems with it that I found:
1. Could not get any attachemnets to download form the T-Mobile Server
2. The "Sounds and Notifications" function was very poor. You could not set an audible, repeating alert on the device, as the blackberry client did not show up as an option in the sounds and notifications settings dialogue box..
There have been a lot of fos try to install the Blackberry CAB files on the XDA IIs, without much success of making them work. There are certainly some integration issues to ovbercome here with the device and the Blackberry client. Some sevice providers are including it in there ROM and supporting it now, but many are still not. O2 have been working for some time on a new ROM for the XDA IIs, but its release has been delayed again as there are still issues with the Blackberry client integration. Latest I heard is that it will not be out before July at this point... In the meantime, I use Smartners "Always on Mail" web client (www.alwaysonmail.com) as an alternative. You can try it free for 2 months and its $49 per year thereafter. It supports attachments and is almost as fast as Blackberry (18 seconds slower per message on random tests I have done). Also gives you the ability to set a repeating audible alert. I would say the service if pretty reliable overall, although some users have noted that it occasionally does not forward a message. I have had a couple like that and it appears that some spam filtering is going on somewhere. Altogether though a pretty good altrenative and a fair beit cheaper.
Hope this helps

Chris
T-Mobile BB Instant Email Attachments
See my mail above. Although I am speaking about the UK the same will no doubt apply to T-Mobile US.
What it comes down to is this - support for attachments is very limited on the BB Instant Email Connect Service. You need to do your homework very thoroughly before signing up.
In its favour - if you are just receiving emails without attachments or simple rtf attachments you will be fine.
As I keep saying learn from my mistakes and check out the usage restrictions on the service very carefully.

My company has a BES server so I just need to connect it to that. Does that work?
I keep hearing people say that they have the Blackberry Connect for Pocket PC on these devices. Are any of them the English version and could you please post a link here?
Thanks a Bunch!
Raptor
For the xda II or xda IIs..??
XDA III iMate PDA 2K aka Siemens Sx66
No, sorry :-[ Latest I heard from O2 is that itwould be July, as they were still experiencing some issues with the integration of the Blackberry software with the xda IIs ROM...
It seems the T-Mobile MDA III in germany may have it now, so hopefully we won't be far away.
In the meantime try Smartners push mail (www.alwaysonmail.com) for siimilar functionality (free 2 month trial) Use this in conjunction with pocketmax AlarmToday, which has a WM 2003 wake up fix so the mail gets through even when the device is off.
Hope that helps

Thanks, but I need Blackberry, trying to turn my all in one device (iMate PDA 2K into an all in one device and quit carrying multiple devices on my belt...
Yes, thats what I do. All my group use Blackberry's. I keep that address and just have the e-mails forwarded to the account smartner uses and then respond from the PPC..
T-Mobile UK Released Blackberry months ago/News Rom Update
Just to clear up the confusion T-Mobile UK launched Blackberry Connect (called Instant Email in T-Mobile speak) on the MDA III months ago.
They have stolen a march on all the UK Operators on the MDAIII. The update is unofficial (in that they have been posting it out on request).
The Rom was uploaded to Wiki. As yet I don't believe anyone has it working with a non T-Mobile device.
I only wish they would be as frequent with the ROM updates. However I am told a new ROM update is imminent (my contact says end June).
Here's hoping as it is my birthday soon....
We have a mix of Blackberry users and Good Technology users. Good Technology has a product that IMHO run circles around RIM. The server software works almost exactly the same as the BES (encrypted push technology), but the cost for the server is $0.00 (unlike the BES which can range from $1,500 to over $3,000) and it is specifically designed for PocketPCs with Wifi, PocketPC Phones and the Palm Treo. The client is a 1 or 2 year subscription which comes out to about $28.00 a month for 12 months. With my t-mobile umlimited data plan @$29.00 a month, it roughly comes out to around the same as the monthly blackberry service.
The Good client has it's own email, calendar, notes and tasks applications that is a wireless direct sync to your exchange server mailbox (no active sync required). You can tell it to add additional email folders to sync, not just the inbox, outbox and send items. It shows you every email folder in your mailbox, but will only show the emails if you either move the mail from the good client, or you have setup the folder for sync. My PDA2K phone app goes right into the good contacts or I can click on a phone number in an email or in my contacts and directly call the number. If you have any contact public folders, it will allow you to add them to your contacts application. It also lets you backup the client on to PDA storage or a card. If you do a hard reset, it takes minutes to reinstall using the recovery backup.
If your interested in this, you can go to www.good.com to get more information.
If your IT department has any reservations about this, let me know. I am the Director of IT for my company and swear by this. Their Customer Service and support are fantasic, the units are easy to setup and I have literally gone on to my Good Server twice in the last twelve months (the two times was to do the server upgrades which are also free AND easy)
Sorry if I sound like a sales rep, but this is a great piece of software.
Thanks for the info Tekhound. But my company has already invested in a BES server that has been running for some time and they won't change it.

Hi Tekhound
Sounds interesting... Does Good Server support showing messages as D delivered and R read, in the same way as the RIM pagers do?
Regards
Chris
Thanks Tekhound, I agree, GoddLink service is fantastic. I was using Good on my xda III when I worked @ Cingular and had only high remarks for it. Unfortunately when leaving for one of the parent companies they only use BES so GoodLink service is not an option.
And BTW, no no delivered, read, delete receipts as RIM devices.
Raptor
Chris...
I'm not sure exactly how the rim pager does it, but I will tell you how the goodlink works:
Since the client by default syncs the Inbox, Outbox, Deleted Items and Sent Items from the Exchange mailbox, it works EXACTLY like Outlook. Once you compose a message and hit send, it goes to the outbox and the client checks to see if it has a connection to the net (keeping in mind that the current version supports regular PocketPCs with WiFi as well as PocketPC Phones). When the message is successfully sent, it puts a copy of the message into the sent items folder of the PDA. While all of this is going on with the PDA, the good server is updating the mailbox itself. I tested one day and it normally updated the mailbox within 2 minutes of makes changes on the PDA, with as little as one signal bar.
If you read a message in the PDA, it marks it as read in Outlook and vice versa. Same goes for deleting messages, but unlike outlook, it does not have a permenant delete. It will go into the deleted items folder in both the PDA and outlook when you delete it from goodlink. The good thing though is that unlike the RIM, the goodlink server understands permenant deleted items and will not orphan messages like the RIM. My policy is that all of my staff have the checkbox for "empty deleted items folder" upon exiting outlook EXCEPT for my RIM users because the way the BES operates.
Options in a new goodlink email message includes the options for Delvery Receipt, Read Receipt, High, Normal and Low importance on version 3.7 up to the current version 4.0. Accept, Tentative and Deny options are available on goodlink for things like meeting requests. I have not checked whether a task request works the same way.
You have your Outlook contacts sync wirelessly as well as the ability to do a LDAP lookup in your exchange global address list. A nice feature is that it not only remembers those you lookup like the RIM, but it also remembers everyone you receive a message from kinda like the autocomplete feature in outlook, but it's also available in the contacts list and not just in the new message.
I will stop this book now in the hopes I have answered your questions. Please let me know if you want any further information. As I mentioned in the earlier post, the server is free, so your only investment is a machine that will run Windows NT, 2000 or 2003 and the OS license. It doesn't have to be this powerful machine. You could use a PIII with 512 of RAM if you wanted. I actually have both my BES and my Good Server on two VMs (Virtual Machines) running on a PIII single processor Dell Blade Server with 1GB of RAM. They run smooth as silk with no problems.

HELP ... WM6 - 2 Small questions

I have two small questions. Hopefully they are eay to answer though I have had no luck so far finding if the answers are here.
1) In the mail / sms app the left soft key is "delete", can this be changed to "new" as it was in wm5 ?
2) In the nice new HTML email mode I get my emails fine, but the images don't download in the mail. Is it possible to stop each mail promopting and for it just to happen ?
May not be ROM specific but just in case, I am using Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31.
Thanks for reading
Dave
hi Dave, firstly, no you cannot change the button back. Well not that i know of. Annoying.
Secondly, i assume you are connecting to an msexchange 2007 server so that you are actually viewing the mail in html, a lot of people made the mistake of assuming that wm6 would give them html email through their existing ex2003 server.
I am guessing though that the images in the emails are being seen as attachments and are therefore not downloaded until you say so. Maybe you should tick the box to download attachments automatically and limit the size of them to something sensible. Probly dont want to try this unless you have a decent data plan.
Hi,
Thats a shame. I keep deleteing my message when trying to send new ones !
Actually I am not using any server for my mail. I am collecting directly from my ISP using pop3. The message contains a little notification bar just like IE would saying that I should click it download the images.
Someone I know who has this ROM said that there was a reg key i could change and it would do it all automatically.
Cheers for the response.
Hi dmj1973,
I have done quite a bit of Google research on the pocket Outlook issue of not automatically downloading pictures, and there doesn't appear to be a solution. I myself have switched to qmail and no longer have that problem.

Huge SMTP problem with WM 6.1

Unfortunately I narrowed this down to the WM 6.1 upgrade. I can no longer send emails.
+ T-Mobile Dash (aka Excalibur aka HTC s620)
+ RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_080408_WWE installed
(generally working wonderfully!)
+ 2 different Pop3/SMTP email accounts (my own domains, hosted by godaddy)
+ EMail settings set-up on the dash (not using My Tmobile as a gateway)
(SMTP uses authentication, no ssl and port-80)
Emails were working just fine for 2 years under WM5, 6. After I installed 6.1 ... receiving worked fine, and still does.
Sending emails would work for a few hours, then I would get a vague error message (error - something is wrong - check the settings or that the network is working)
For a few days I was able to sometimes get it to work if I toggled SSL for outgoing. But no more.
The only way I can get emails to send is to delete the email settings, and re-set it up again as new. Then after a few hours it fails again.
After hours and hours of playing and on the phone with tech support - we've determines that the settings are (and always have been) correct and that there are no network or hosting problems. And the phone is brand new.
The email sending worked fine until the 6.1 upgrade.
Any suggestions, insights, help, therapy, anything???
Thanks!
Please someone help out - I'm going nuts.
You should change your password because if you have been using unsecured smtp for 2 years it's likely someone has already stolen it. Turn on SSL and keep it on ;-)
Not sure why it would fail after a few hours though.

Not to sound too sarcastic - but can you be a little more vague? ; ) "tweak the settings" ... hmm. OK.
After hours and hours of troubleshooting (and I'm no newbie) with the mobile provider, hosting company etc ... I think we've reset, reconfigured just about everything.
The only thing that works - temporarily - is if I delete the entire email account from the phone, and the create a new (identical) one. It will work for a few send/receive sessions, then the same sending problem will occur ... never to recover until I repeat that process.
If anyone has any specific experience with this problem (or specific suggestions) - I'd really be grateful !
lemme get everything straight first, your saying you upgraded to 6.1 correct? and now your email account wont let u send emails correct? well is your EDGE working? can u still get on the internet with no problem?

yes yes yes yes yes
After 11 hours of testing and troubleshooting over the past 2 weeks - we've definitely covered the basics.
In case you were wondering
+ the phone is turned on
+ I am pressing the buttons on the device as opposed to trying to use tele-kinetic ability (which can be inconsistent)
+ My eyes are opened and are in working order
+ I made sure I was in no tunnels, caves, canyons or steel-concrete enclosed bomb shelters
+ I verified that my network provider (T-Mobile) did not go out of business, or suddenly remove all their cell towers
+ I verified that most my 2,000 email contacts (potential recipients) have not been abducted by aliens who also deleted their email accounts.
Also
+ This is happening with 2 different email accounts.
+ The Pop3 and smtp servers are indeed working - since
a. I am able to put the settings in my PC, and another phone device (a older sprint phone that allows me to setup pop/smtp) - send/recieve emails work fine
+ Emails were working fine before I upgraded to WM 6.1
**
+ EMails worked ok for the first 2-3 days then the trouble started.
+ I can only get emails to send now when I delete the account, and create a new one (with identical settings). This lasts for a few hours before it fails to send.
+ I've been on the phone troubleshooting with tmobile and my hosting company for hours on end - trying all sorts of funky settings and tests ...
They hosting company seems to have determined that the smtp request is never getting to them; tmobile verified in great detail that the network is working.
Their idea was something along the lines of "the email client part of upgrade of WM 6.1 seems to be deleting a security certificate" or something .
I dunno about that - but it is clear that something is going on with the email client. The network, and email hosting is just fine, as are the settings.
Hope some of this helps - and that someone has some ideas I can try.
Oh - and just to pre-empt some suggestions:
1. No I won't change to linux, a mac or an iphone - but thanks for the suggestion.
2. I have checked out that I have not transported into an alternate reality, where everything is pretty much the same as in this reality - except my emails don't work.
3. Yes, I am using a Dash/HTC s670 - the battery is charged, and I have powered down, taken the battery and sim card out, hopped on one foot and made sure I have no other software running (even on all my pc's) before I powered it back on.
4. Yes, I can make phone calls and do everything else
5. yes, I have an internet connection - and the proper one (GPRS - but have also tried this via the wifi connection.
6. No I am not talking on the phone or browsing the internet during the ill-fated email sending.
7. I am pretty sure there is no conspiracy between t-mobile and my hosting company to block me from sending emails - only from this phone.
8. There are no unusual limitations or special issues with my hosting company about sending these emails.
9. I've tried sending to myself, others, multiples etc ... no difference.
10. It happens with more than one email address/domain.
Thanks for all the help! Sincerely. Thanks. I really need to solve this.
not sure if this helps, but i too cannot send via smtp, but one thing i found out is the email account ( as i found out) i setup (which was my ISP's ..Cox Communications) blocks smtp transmissions sent via proxy (which is what you go through via edge or gprs,...not sure about wi-fi though).

I had tmobile level-3 tech support (aka as their obi-wans) conferenced in with my hosting company (godaddy) - and tmobile specifically asked about the proxy issues. Nope. Nice suggestion
PLEASE note everyone - MY issue is not merely "I can't get my emails to send" ... as if I am trying to figure out the proper settings or trying to get email sending to work for the first time
Emails USED to send until I upgraded to WM 6.1 ... for 2 years
If my settings were wrong, if there were some incompatibility between the network and my smtp server then my emails would NEVER have sent.
As it is ... they send sometimes (when I set up the email client with a new account).

A lot of the senior members here (including yourself) seem to know what they are talking about and are quite helpful - despite many others answering without bothering to read the question. So thanks
I honestly and at a brick wall here. The only thing that seems to make sense is some sort of concept that involves my smtp settings being corrupted (upon saving or sending) ...
And I mean corrupted - since they work consistently for a few hours and then stop.
Other than that, I haven't a clue - neither do tmobile nor my hosting (and for once I feel sorry for them - since the time they put in trying to troubleshoot far exceeds any profit they might make from me).
i dont know if this will work or not but its a suggestion since I also own a domain with Godaddy. Sometimes even my SMTP fails though I am using WM6 and not WM6.1 so this is what i have done.
Goto www.mobisync.com and setup ur account with them. They support upto 5 accounts. Then configure ur settings according to the site.
There are 2 advantages for this. 1 is that you get push email in real time and when u send email its using mobisync servers and not the godaddy SMTP.
Also it totally free.
i am using this with no problems till now. I suggest you try it and its very easy to setup mobisync on ur cell phone...will probably take 30sec or less.
Hope this helps...cheers mate..!!
Hi - thanks for chiming in ...
actually I am not looking for "alternatives" - I am looking to solve the problem with the email client. If I need to send emails I can indeed send from my PC, or even webmail from my phone or just about anywhere else.
Sure, I can use some sort of network based email, IMAP or Microsoft exchange or whatever.
RIght now I want to solve the issue at hand. It's sort of like my trying to get about microsoft word on my PC working again, and getting suggests to type my letters in a text editor or other client. I *know* other ways exists - but this way is the one I prefer and it should be working. Clearly there is a problem and I'd like to solve it.
If no one else is experiencing this issue (in this forum), then I'll have to consider something specific with my setup/network etc .. but then again 6.1 has not been out long enough to make that assumption yet.
I appreciate the ideas and help - keep them coming - eventually we'll hit upon something.

Since you can initially send, your setting must be at least basically correct. It sounds more like the SMTP session is not being closed correctly, since deleting and recreating (which would be effectively a close) works. I would guess WM6.1 thinks the connection is still active but the server has closed it. You really need a trace of the SMTP session.
As a work around/test you need is another completely different SMTP server you can authenticate with. I suggest your home ISP. They should have one you can authenticate with for use when travelling. Try it with that. If it works there is a compatibility issue between the Godaddy SMTP server and WM6.1 so you will need a trace for us to figure out what is going on. If it doesn't work there as well, well we still need that trace.
Darn, your suggested sounded promising - and I did indeed spend about 2 hours chasing it. I tried smtp from my cable op - who is my broadband isp ... no luck - same problem. Then I got on the phone with t-mobile, using their smtp settings. Same issue.
We're all stumped.
Not sure how to do a trace of the smtp session from my device.
Again - this worked for 2 years (until WM 6.1) - at which point sending worked for a few hours then not. The only way it works again is if I create a new account with the same settings.

(again - starting with WM 6.1, emails simple do not send - no timeout no port errors, bounceback, security issues). The only way it sends is if I create a NEW account with the identical settings. Then it will work for several hours 2-4 ... then emails go back to not-sending.
Finally after a total of over 30 hours of testing in the last 8 days (yeah, I've got a full time job too, and had been traveling!) ... I had to go to a tmobile store and side by side test with a WM 6.0 dash. Same everything - settings etc. 6.0 works. 6.1 not.
And where would I officially report this?
Even more of a tragedy since I absolutely loved everything else in 6.1
PLEASE PLEASE (whoever does these things) - please post a fix or rom update!
Please!
Thanks

I would recommend waiting for an official release from T-Mobile or HTC before filing any bug reports.
"Hi, I downloaded a hacked beta rom from some website and it doesn't work right" doesn't usually get them moving fast.
Well, I sort of meant reporting this to whomever ported. I honestly don't know the logistics here of what ROM I have or how it came about. the point of confusion (on this point) is that the announcement and link for the 6.1 release actually appeared on a T-Mobile affiliated blog or site (forget which) - giving the perhaps mistaken impression that this was some sort of official release for the Dash - only that T-mobile was not yet supporting it. I definitely claim ignorance here.
My comment about reporting the bug - was more about letting the person/team who "ported" WM 6.1 to the Dash know about this issue. I am sure they would want to know (especially if this issue was specific to the port). Just because I posted a thread on this issue does not mean that the right people know about it yet - which is why I mentioned it.
Thanks
smtp problem with wm 6.1
is there a solution to this problem yet? I have the same problem since upgrading to 6.1. I've noticed that it appears to be related to smtp authentication. It seems to work ok on an earthlink account i have, which does not require smtp authentication.
No solution yet. Problem still persists (though intermittent). Seems to be related to 6.1 not resetting or saving a security certificate or something. But I am no expert. All I know is I can no longer rely on my Dash for SMTP email since upgrading to 6.1
i'm having the exact same issue
i have my phone setup for imap with gmail and i can receive perfectly fine, but it wont send
i delete the account and recreated it and it worked but after a few hours stop sending again
any fix?

email being hidden/deleted after X days??

Hey, my boss and I just got the Rhodium and I am in charge of setting everything up to his wishes. However, we seemed to have run into something strange: the email on his phone seems to be hidden or deleted after a certain amount of days.
He is connecting using IMAP and all the mail is still on the server, but this morning his phone seemed to have hidden/deleted all mail from 3 days ago and before.
I can't find anything relating to these settings in the phone, can anyone help me with this problem?
You will need to alter the settings which can/should be found as:
Go to the email screen where you would read your mail. While there go through the following options:
Menu -> Tools -> Options -> [select the required account] -> send recieve schedule
From there the option is available in a drop down menu.
Hope that will work.
they aren't hidden, but deleted. But it's just a copy. the idea is that you don't need all the emails, only the recent on on your phone. it could (if you work with a lot of attachments) fill your memmory.
But waht music art1st said, you can said you want the email from the past 3 weeks or some other period.
Thanks a lot, I managed to find the settings now. I was a bit confused because the phone is in Dutch and I am only really used to running all my OS's in English so things were a bit difficult to find.
What you said worked perfectly though!
i had the same problem, and the solution was changing my configuration to IMAP not POP
emails
may be some one had this problem as well:
When you receive an Outlook e-mail message that was sent by using a russian version of Windows mobile, the name that appears in the From field may not appear correctly.
Email is ik, i read all and topick appears ok, but person name and address are shows like lots of letters: "njdnfjdnjfnd" if i press on it them it will show me the address.
On TP1 i didnt have this problem. but in TP2 i have it and i dont know how to fix it.
Thank you for help in advance.

[Q] Desire Z & Exchange - Help needed !

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and to this site as well.
I just bought the Desire Z and it looks like a nice one
When configure the phone I found an interesting problem that I have no idea how to over come and need your help.
When I sync the phone with my exchange mail in the office it is sync only my inbox and not any other sub folders I created in my mail box, unless I'm going to each one of the sub folders and sync in manually.
In my older phone (Touch pro2) I use to get it done automatically.
Is any one can help me on this ?
Another small question is how I can activate the screen lock on this phone ?
Thanks for speedy answers and sorry if I post it wrongly.
Regards,
Oren

screenlock is in the settings->security...
look in the "mail" settings. you have to select each folder then after that it will autosync. how many folders do you have?
I don't know if their latest HTC ROM update has changed this, but unfortunately the ROM my HTC Desire Z came with (1.34.405.5) can't synchronise other folders automatically. Whilst viewing email you can press menu and select other folders, but it'll download the email then, there's no way to make it do it automatically.
The stock Android email client (which the person above me is talking about) CAN synchronise other folders, but unless you're prepared to change ROMs (or at the very least root it and try and swap in the stock Android mail application) I don't think there's much of a solution.
However, a word of warning which might not make you want to bother, the synchronisation works differently to how it did on Windows Mobile (I previously had a Touch Pro2 as well!): On WM you could set a folder to sync, but only the Inbox would alert/notify, the other folders would just be there ready downloaded whenever you wanted them. However, the stock Android client will sync the extra folders AND alert you whenever new email arrives in them.
To me this was a pain in the neck because I have Exchange sending messages to some folders that I will read later/don't care about when they come in (information messages etc) so of course I have to unsync those folders now because it'll alert me if something goes into them, I only wanted them there ready downloaded for when I wanted to check.
On the plus side the stock app can also "hide" folders from view, but then it also can't move messages to another folder (which the HTC version can!)... If only the mail client had features from both...

Wow ! Thank you so much for such a post !
For me it is kind of a must have as I travel a lot and need to see the mails coming (by the way, on the TP2 there was a green number of mails near each sub folder) and not to sync manually about 25-30 sub folders .
will try to speak to HTC people - I will update of any new ideas
Cheers
Oren
I run IT support for about 95-100 traveling salesmen, almost all of them require mobile email support.
This issue has come up a few times now for IPhones, the way it's corrected with that is by setting the days to sync from the default 3days to no limit. It's not the best fix, as most of these people with this issue are dealing with exchange mailboxes around 5gb's (ceo's and regional managers), so it just eats into the phones space, but it works.
Possibly it will work for androids as well.
I have a tmobile g2, but I use google for mailhosting, exchange support isn't quite ready for any of the big 3 phones (BB iphone and android).

Thanks for this, So there is no answer even not in the market ?
Interesting !
i'm personally hating how exchange simply doesn't work on android, atleast on virtuous ROM for the desire z.
After almost 2 hours of telling it to create an exchange account on my phone and finally be able to create one, I run into a problem that it goes on a refresh spree and spams my notification with the one unread email that I have over and over again until i delete the damn account. I hope hotmail gets their crap together and support imap or atleast get their damn exchange server to work properly.
