In the end... why to upgrade to WM6? - P3600 ROM Development

Excuse me for the (maybe) stupid question but if you have a pretty good WM5 configured Trinity, what would be the real advantages you can have upgrading to WM6? ...i mean... which are the main reasons to do it?
Thanks for the answers and, anyway, VERY THANKS to mUns and LVSW for their ROMs (without them we would have no choice!)...

the real question is : Why Not ??

why not....
why not is a good answer , but only if you upgrade for your own pleasure to do it , and sometimes you discover that could be better wait. but we'll never admit !!!
.....but, in practice , how many time do we spend to repeat so many times the same activities before to be able to profit of our baby?
we are a little bit crazy.....

I really cannot understand the existance of threads like this one! Each one of us can decide if he wants WM6 upgrade or not! I personally use mUm's SE rom (the greek translated version of ausdim. Thanks mUm and Dimitri) and apart from using the ability to have html capable mail client its real fast compared to the official WM5 release. My P3600 is real stable and I enjoy every use of it!

@ katsj
Your answer is the reason for this tread! I'm not taking a position about upgrading or not, I'm only trying to understend if this is usefull to improove Trinity performances... Thanks for the second part of your message...

Yes there are differences between the old and new crossbow os, and many threads and articles covered the cons and pros of both, now personally I love the speed the wm6 provides, icons, and the other new features wm6 offers. finally it is worth it only if you like changes and trying out new things. But if you start finding joy in the upgrade habit, you could never stop.
cheers

THX taiseer

One more thing! I love the sounds of WM6! There is no comparison to the borring WM5 sound files!

5. Has better sound
6. Hassle NEVER locked up
7. Has better Office Mobile

Crazy? I have 14 years of PDA experience. Used over 100 models. I compared WM5 toWM6 closely and these are my experiences. Your mileage may vary. From your cockamamie response, it likely will.

ok, if you r sure about that, please post the benchmark of:
*50% faster
*double battery life
and explain us how wm6 can...triple avalaible RAM ( ROTFL )

It does sound a bit optimistic, I've never seen anyone else make these types of claims, I mean if this were all true there would be an overwhelming outcry to get WM6.

hehe wonder how one benchmark "*double battery life"
maybe a really really long video clip of the phone

yep, some terabyte of video can solve this doubt...

anyway we all know how is the battery life with the trinity wm5 equipped, then with this tool http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/?it we can make some test and comparison...or not?!?

A simple reason is that the innovation has stopped when WM6 came available.

Top #1 Reason for Upgrading: If you don't upgrade to WM6 we will all laugh and tease you about your oudated technology... and you won't be invited to the secret xda pool party for WM6 users only.

Best build for a XDA IIs wm200se?

Ok, I'm pretty much getting to grips with my IIs...
I've already upgraded my rom to o2's 1.40242 (up and down just to practice) and I know what I'm doing in so far as editing my registry... but my machine still isn't all it could be.
I've pretty much read the forum upside down, but there are so many options to this and that scattered around in the various threads that that it would take me forever to try them all for functionality, so as opposed to asking for help, I'd like to instead call upon your collective experience.
As said I'm looking to make my machine the best it can be for a wm2003se PDA (not really looking to upgrade to wm5 because 2003 is still the most compatible os out there at the mo), so I'd like your thoughts on the best roms and radio versions based on your useage. (best being most stable and functional (heh, I really like a2dp... but I know the issues).
So... what's your advise?
Thx in advance, all suggestions most welcome (well.... the non-profane ones anyway. )
Finally... big kudos to all the devs,(pro and hobby) you all done some really stunning stuff, this is a hell of a forum. (I'd name them but I'd like to finish this post today.)
maybe you can try he system rom from this progect:
http://sx66-blueangel.home.comcast.net/
also, upgrade your radio to the latest one.
MORE options!... are you purposely trying to give me brain melt?
I might give it a try at some point when it comes out of beta... but for the moment I'm really just going for stability and functionality.
Also you mentioned the latest radio rom.. which (if I'm correct) is the 1.15 version.. but I've read that alot of people have gone back to 1.13.... ho hum.
Thx though.
Any more suggestions, people?
What about suggesting a really nice cooked rom (or baked.. whatever.)
Also any chance of giving me a reason why you would recommend a particular rom over another?
Thx.

no problem man
I'll try the upgrade to radio 1.15, and if it don't go well, i'll change to 1.13.
Anyway, also would like to try out one WM5 release, I am thinking in one clean helmi release.
Also, i've got from one portuguese forum, some interesting files that put the 2003 SE with one graphical aspect similar to wm6. (thats one of the things i'll try.
By studying all those files, maybe one day, we can compile one rom to our needs.
Sounds interesting.. but watch you don't slow your machine down to much.. that's (and compatibility issues) my main reason for not going to new with my os.. all the pretties just bog the system down.
I will try.
also, i believe those new rom's are much faster and stable than the first ones that appeared.
Hey people.. still lookin' for recommendations.

here, the only recommendations we get is this: "screw it alone, we don't like you to do questions"
but for WM2003 there aren't big recommendations. it is already one outdated platform, and all of them are with the eyes on WM5 platform.
the last system roms are based on 1.42.xxx

The newest original rom from o2 was the 1.40.242.. I think that the 1.42 is from t-mobile.. do you know if that will work on an XDA IIs?
hi there man. my pda arrived today. i am using the system rom 1.42 and the radio 1.15. i did the upgrade today. so far so good.
in fact i am now posting this message with the blue angel.

Dude, you also own Hermes. How is your experience is with it.
If i give you a choice between N95 and Imate JasJam. Which one will you select?
for me it's the best device to load many apps, rom flashes (wm6.1 runs great), media, scalability, travel, UI, etc.
good luck

Most of the time battery life depends on type of ROM you use and how much you use it. Some ***** about it, some live with it. Hermes is a mid level phone, if you want more juice out of your phone then go for kaiser!
Or get a bigger battery... I can sooo see someone lugging around their hermes attached to a car battery one day......

MATE, ARE U Serious???
There is a wealth of information on this phone on the XDA site. Use the search function is a great place to start.
I will however play nice
In my experience the Hermes model is a great phone. Note the amount of development still happening in this forum. Not many other phones of this age still command such attention. It has an abundance of connectivity options. The battery life depends on how much you use it as with any device. The Hermes wiki contains the specs of the beast. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes.

I mean to say if you use daily 3 hours Wi-fi and always connected to the 3G Internet service then how long the estimated the battery live. I tried before Nokia N95 and it's battery only last for 2-6 hours in the above stated operations. I am already using PDA2K and happy that it is best phone ever made. but it lacks 3G, HSDPA, and lots more...

Hello, I already read the Wiki but as i stated sometimes real experience is required then reading the wiki. I upgrade my phone every 12 month. But, i don't want to get stuck in something and then looking after to someone who buy it from me. That's why some research and real experience is better then getting stuck.
Thanks for your response.
hmm
My next phone after learning windows mobile would have to be the htc touch pro. As I still like the keyboard function.
As previous posters are saying do your research. Get parallel imported phone from a reputable online seller on ebay or where ever you are.

But I think you need to do a fair bit more reading and searching before you go ahead and flashing stuff if you think touchflo is a ROM

Sorry mate, honestly, ... trying it yourself is the only way you can judge, read the wiki, and try out different roms, as i said what is good for me may not be good for you. So go try them all out and make up your mind from experience. I have had my phone for two months and I have been through honestly about 20 or so roms before i made up my mind, each chefs have got their own style and yeah you need to determine what style suits you.
Thanks alot, will definitely do so
One more question...In my research on the P4350 which uses the 200mhz OMAP cpu, i read that there is an app to overclock (and declock) the device, does the TyTN have a similar app??

If you want to keep your device for another couple of years, then no, it is not recommended. it is doable, but it would not be doing your device any favour.
Well since the reviews i read all said the TyTN is powerful enough, im actually more interested in declocking the device when i dont need the power, to save battery life

hmm, you need to try the roms available, and once you get applications such as BT GPS, BT Stereo, MP3 etc going, plus the touchflo extension you mentioned, it ain't all that powerful.
These chefs have done their best to make the most out of a device that is 2 years old. so ... yeah it isn't that powerful, but yes you will determine that when you have run a couple of things on the hermes have fun, ...
Starbase has the cab on his 4shared site. I have had it before, but find it useless, the touchflo that schaps has is better for finger scrolling and quick landscape mode switches however.
Good to see more South Africans here. (From South Africa myself). As Zocster said, just try the roms out. Been flashing my TyTN at least once a week. Just remember to Hard-SPL first.

Glad someone remembered.....
lol thanks guys!!!
Been reading the guides and the wikis, will definitely hardSPL first
first of all make hardspl ! it is the first thing you need to flash into your tytn....what you meen about -toch flo- ? many component may be instaled on any rom. personaly I use 3ppc.net russian 6.1 rom, whith htc home today plugin (one part of tochflo) included. for finger scroling I use ftochFlo, cube not use at all - personaly I found it useless....(anyway - there are some custom cube on 'hacking and developing' section of developers, as for me it much better than original.)
about overclock. sumsung procesors (which use tytn) is wery bad in frequency control. looks like time generator somehow connected whith main frequency - when you changing it, a lot of bugs appear....for example - if you overclocked cpu, you will notice that music/video/e.t.c. will run more fast that it needed. no need to worry about cpu power consumtion - it low anyway for samsung cpu. much more buttary will eat 3g, wifi, backlight e.t.c.

I've tired so many rom, and i use the stock. i can't imagine, why use anybody cooked rom on tp2.
when i had an X1 i never use the stock rom, because most of the cooked rom was fast and don't eats 60-75% of the memory. but all of the cooked rhodium rom does, and slowing my phone after half our.
i read all the time the posts, what the users or cheef wrote about a rom: fast and lite and slight and smooth, and best. and it is'nt. it's bugy and slow and annoying.
so i use the stock and can'wait what can the HTC doing with wm6.5 and new (?) manila 2.1. it'll eating memory and slowing the tp2 too? i don't belive that. maybe i'm naive. then i'll flash back my old never-falling WM6.1 stock rom.

Warranty can be applied as long as you return to original ROM before you send it to repair! so not really a void warranty
I reflashed to a cooked ROM the same day I receive my TP2 and I´m so happy!

Shame to hear your experience.
Here is complete opposite case, official ROM is so heavy and full of crap...
The wait is killing me, I want a cooked rom on my CDMA device....
and you know what else is killing me, the new network coming out on telus, and my phone that won't do 21 Mbps I might have to part ways, I hope something just as good is coming up.

When that appears to be true, I'm eagerly awaiting this update from HTC. But, in all honesty, I intend to not believe that HTC is upgrading WM as well as TF3D to HTC sense. We'll see. Would be great though!!

may b they will..they have no better alternatives coming for TP2...its only 1 with HW keyboard, and there are no announcments on TP3..which i wonder will b wm7 phone..mean while old hardware on TP2 can do the tricks on sense and keep business users happy for a while

Edit: BTW where did you read this?

when that is true, and usually wmpoweruser is thrustworthy, I will be very glad and have no intention at all to switch to the Touch HD2

i really hope it's true
so will it be October or November?? haa!
Bah, can't wait that long! I've flashed mine yesterday with one of the ROMs from here and it works great

T-Mo US 6.5 ROM and time

Has anyone else observed with this ROM that the clock seems to be delayed or wrong after charging or a long sleep?
I'm using SPB Mobile and I have "automatically change time zone and clock" enabled under phone options.
6.5 ROM?

I've checked Tmo website and US HTC website too and there is not official new ROM release for US Tmo TP2, where did you get 6.5 ROM for your TP2?
Is it working with US Tmo 3G network?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

I just found a leaked file but it's good to have the official one, thanks a lot.
BTW, what do you think of the 6.5 upgrade? I've read some people complains and some others went back to 6.1

It's okay. It's a bit slower but not that much. It really depends on what you're doing on it.
I'm one of the ones thinking about going back to 6.1 from the 6.5
It doesn't seem to play nice with some programs I use, and it seems slower. I do like the home page looks a bit more than 6.1, but that isn't enough to keep me using the rom if it keeps crapping up.
There are too many issues I am finding, including the clock issue and lag from larger resources used.
Thanks

Yeah, the home screen is nicer and I like that plugin that detects where you are for the current weather. I've only had one run-in with a program and makes it difficult to run and that's iGO8's TTS. Because 6.5 is a memory hog, I can't seem to get TTS working unless I close manila.exe, restart, and run CleanRAM. Luckily I find the TTS distracting enough that I don't really need it all the time. I've had LOTS of errors installing various programs but everything seems to be working. I had to turn off the error notification in order to just be happy with operations.
I've also noticed that the messaging app keeps popping up ever so often. Anyone else notice this?
I am also having the time sync problem with my tp2.
I am using the official tmo 6.5 os and I am getting tired of this issue.
The reason I got rid of my watch was because I thought I had a dependable clock on my phone.

Yup same issues. BUT after doing alot of tweaks and changing alot of registry entries, I finally like how my phone is working. It is true, it's a memory hog but I got use to it. BTW in the beginning after upgrading to the Tmo 6.5 official rom, I wanted to go back to 6.1 but couldn't. I even talked to the Tmo. support and how I hated the upgrade and made my phone work like crap. She said the only way to go back to 6.1 is to get another phone from them (swap for a new TP2 with 6.1 still). So this is my story about 6.5 upgrade. So if you have 6.5 and want to go back to 6.1 on a Tmo TP2 better do that now before they run out because the Touch HD2 is coming from them.
Here you can download the original 6.1 TMOUS ROM

So . . . . has anyone else experienced this clock time lag.
I have been on 6.5 for about 2 weeks and my clock is regularly 3 minutes behind.
(I have a separte TP2 running sometimes JoshKoss Perfect Black and sometimes NRG roms - that device is never behind)
Any thoughts on why on the stock TMo 6.5? There is a small thread on the TMo forums, but it really didn't shed much light.
H E L P . .
WTF do these dumbass replies not relate to the thread title
just look at the thread title and compare it to these dumb ass, off topic posts...

thanks for all your comments...??? That's a ****ing laugh...You didn't start the thread you goon, you hijacked it and rendered it rather useless...
if you have nothing beneficial and on topic to add to the original post, don't post anything at all, or start your own thread...
Aunt Flo visiting??
Wow, someone is having a bad day...
...and for the record, the clock issue seems to be in part due to a "coolness" factor...or at least that seems to be what the consensus says.
Also telling someone who may be interested in 6.5 that there are some issues beyond the clock issue, is not hijacking the thread, it is warning them that another thread may be needed to fix something else that has gone wrong.
Finally, several of the 6.5 issues have been addressed in cooked roms, but they themselves are not 100% bug free, and one may be trading a stock rom issue for a cooked rom issue.
When a solution is found, and works 100% I am absolutely certain someone will post about it and will be practically wetting themselves over said fix.

Perhaps you should take your own rather b*tchy advice (as your post also was of no benefit and provided no fix to the OP's querry). You were quite rude in calling a fellow XDA member a MORON. I'll also add that if you have nothing NICE to say, don't say anything at all.
lol...seems i've struck a nerve...lmao...the raw truth often does...
No the truth doesn't hurt, it is your RUDENESS to other members that bothers me.
Whether a thread has or has not veered off topic is not a reason to be a rude asshole to other members...
ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR VERY OWN POST HAD NOTHING BENEFICIAL TO ADD TO THE OP'S QUERY, THEREFOR WAS JUST AS MUCH A HIJACKING AS THE ONES YOU CLAIMED TO BE.
who said anything about the truth hurting, sweetheart?
i see why you couldnt follow the original thread topic...it's because your context clues, are supbar at best...lol...

Striking a nerve implies creating pain. Strike a nerve is a colloquialism for something with negative connotations, while Strike a chord, has positive ones. As you used the term STRIKE A NERVE in the same sentence alluding to the truth...I answered you with the truth does not hurt. Perhaps you were confused with what implications to use, and you really meant to use the positive terminology of Strike a Chord.

Now you not only insult other XDA members, but now attack me for pointing out a very glaringly obvious point to your own post---that you did nothing yourself to answer the OP's posting. Perhaps you have Napoleonic Syndrome and feel it is necessary to attack others to somehow make yourself feel better. We do not need bullies at XDA. Feel free to troll some other website.
If you feel it is truly necessary to continue to attack XDA members and/or flame this thread, go right ahead, as it is now YOU taking it so far off course that I am sure it will soon be closed. I have spoken my mind, and will not engage you further. If you must get the last word in to save your tiny manhhood, then go ahead. If you post again after THIS entry, we shall have our answer about what sort of person you are. That is the RAW TRUTH.
