SDHC for Windows Mobile - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

Hi All,
It is being said that Windows Mobile as of date doesn't support SDHC.
Initially neither XP, Vista or Palm supported it
but now there is proper fix for XP and Vista, alongside there is a trick by which Treo recognizes SDHC.
So i am having it hard to believe that Windows Mobile doesn't have a fix or a trick.
Exeperience with my dell Laptop:
As such it says that as it is old laptop it won't support, and it initially didn't.
Then i stumbled of the XP fix (not officially released yet) my Microsoft for SDHC.
on applying the fix, my card is operating like butter on my dell.
I checked the contents of the fix to find on one '.dl' with some name like 'sd**'. Which leads me to believe it was a driver related fix.
was wondering if there is something being worked out for windows mobile as well (officially or unooficially).
thanks

RE
Are you saying that after aplying the fix to your Win XP your card reader/writer is now able to recognise SDHC card?
BTW, do you require a SDHC card reader/writer or just a simple SD card reader/writer will do the job?
Is the card reader/writer built-in to your DELL or is it an external card USB reader/writer?
What capacity SDHC card are you referring to? 8GB?
Where do you get the fix? Could you post a link?
Thanks

I bought a microSDHC™ 4GB (Sandisk) and it run perfectly with Windows Mobile 6 SE EC 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3) on my HTC TyTN (Hermes).

Hi FOSA,
Are you saying that after aplying the fix to your Win XP your card reader/writer is now able to recognise SDHC card?
Yes exactly.
BTW, do you require a SDHC card reader/writer or just a simple SD card reader/writer will do the job?
It's a simple Dell Inspiron 630m inbuilt SD Card reader.
Is the card reader/writer built-in to your DELL or is it an external card USB reader/writer?
Built-In
What capacity SDHC card are you referring to? 8GB?
4GB i have but the fix will also work for 8GB
Where do you get the fix? Could you post a link?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923293 - Description of the fix KB923293
http://thehotfixshare.net/download/index.php?dir=English/Windows XP/ - Location of the fix to download - just search for 923293, alternatively you can call microsoft and get it deirectly from them (as mentioned in description page).
Thanks[/QUOTE]

correction
The above fix is for 4GB SDHC only.
for more than 4GB SDHC use the below fix. : KB934428
cheers
And there is a similar fix for Windows CE as well in the April 2007 CE5.0 update- refer Microsoft's website.
only one missing is Windows Mobile.

SDHC update for Windows CE 5.0 is here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933809
but how to download and build it ?

Ant-125,
I reckon CE 5.0 is not same a windows Mobile 5.0.
what we need here is the fix/driver for wm 5.0/6.0

topgunarindam,
Thanks so much for your info.
I got a new laptop with built-in SD Card Reader. I installed both Windows XP and Windows Vista (dual-boot).
In WIndows Vista, it can read my 4GB Transend SD Card, which I use with my PPC. But in Windows XP, it always prompt me to reformat the card and cannot read it.
If I plug in a USD card reader, then it can read my 4GB card, just fine.
I have tried to find updated driver for the built in SD reader but found none.
After reading your post just now, I simply tried it, and guess what, it works.
Now the SD Card reader reads my 4GB SD Card perfectly and I do not need to carry the USB reader anymore.
My 4GB card is not SDHC, but this hotfix takes care of it as well. =)
Thanks again.

If this works on regular, piss old card readers, we've just caught the SDHC alliance red-handed for misleading consumers. Even if the SDHC alliance is right, tho, full 4GB support (instead of dodgy or spotty ones) is a nice addition to anything...

sandisk 4g sdhc
I just recieve my 4gb sandisk sdhc card but windows vista doesnt recognise it, it just doesnt detect anything.]
Any help please. i tried downloading the fix but it says i dont need it.

Does that particular Sandisk card come with its own reader?
And you can't use XP patches on Vista. Vista has its own set of SD-card patches...

You guys are talking about XP/Vista.
What about a solution for WM6 (CE5.2)?

WM6 since aku 0.2 have added native SDHC support. But OEM has to make some minor modifications in drivers.

so is my WM6 5.2.1413 compitable with SDHC without any mods?

Hi all,
Laurentius and I will be releasing a new WM6 Rom, either over the weekend or early next week which will incorporate Mamaich's wonderful work on the SDHC drivers amongst other wonderfull features.
Cheers,

That will be a a big step forward... thanks in advance

Hi @all,
what about a simple fix which doesn't require flashing the whole device...mine is just working so fine right now...

Would be cool, because my laptop will maybe be able to read the 4 GB nonSDHC from my Universal aswell....
Thanks so far,

SDHC on Prophet???

Hi,
has anyone ever tried to insert an SDHC (High Capacity) memory card in his/her Prophet?
Will the OS (WM5 or WM6) recognise this medium or will there ever be drivers for this type of sd?
Doesnt work ... use search function ... possible some on make a driver or not ... nobody knows more!
You mean There is No Driver For Prophet ??
I download x500 Driver, But it Dosent Work
SDHC is anything over 2GB right? I have a 4GB SD running in mine.
The card doesn't specifically say it is SDHC, but it is certainly 4GB. OCZ is the brand of the card.
I'm using a non-SDHC 4Gb card and it works fine. I don't think you can get higher capacity than 4gb without going to SDHC but I've not heard of a working Prophet driver for it.
4gb
4gb is the cut-off point. You can have sdhc 4gb cards, or non-sdhc 4gb SD cards. I have a 4gb(at least 133mhz) one from the company 'CnMemory' which works great.

Not the driver is the problem. I think the hardware is not reading those SDHC. I've also tryied. I've buyed an SDHC 8 Gb but i only use like a portable memory because i cannot use inside my Qtek S200
I read MSDN and i found that we need to recompile or patch the sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll
But may be HTC also modified a SD Host Controller for understanding only SD 1.1
In this case we should modify the Host controller driver.
P.S.
The SDHCdrivers from Artemis and x500 - dont work on s200
The only last thing I want for my Neo after getting the Big Storage ROM is the SDHC compatibility, after that my Neo is the pefect working PPC Phone!

As I understood, the controller function is on the TI chip itself in Prophet.
This should mean that HTC cannot have altered it.
(there are SDHC compliant phones which use the same OMAP)
Wouldn't it be possible to find a patch the same way as the Artemis people (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332445) hve done it from a machine with the same chip ?
there is an sdhc driver for eten x500 throughout the net. i tried it on my prophet. but it disables wifi functionality. moreover, i could not test it since i didn't have any sdhc card at hand.
wi-fi don´t work
Hi
I tried use sdhc.cab in my S200, and now wi-fi don´t work. Then, I need original files sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll (WM5).

whenever I put in my transcend 4GB card my prophet gets all messed up... I'm not sure if the card is SDHC or just plain old SD, i'm kinda a newbie, but would really be interested in figuring out how to get 4GB on my phone, which was formerly an Imate JAMin.
Thanks all...
Have you tried a different ROM?

The hardware doesn't support it... It's possible to use certain drivers that allow 4GB cards to be used as they don't need the double length address bit that SDHC uses, but any more and you need different hardware.
My Prophet does not read 4GB SD cards
Dear All,
I found that some of you are able to use 4Gb SD cards in your Prophet. Currently I am able to use a 2GB micro SD card with an adapter for my prophet. How can I use a 4GB micro SD card in my prophet. Is there a special driver that I need to install or anything?
please advise
I just tried a 4GB sdhc card and it doesn't work with my s200...

Either HTC wants to say that they support non-SDHC 4 GB cards which probably should work anyways or that they are going to support SDHC in the official release.
I've read many discussions on that SDHC and that it is only a software problem on the Artemis and that someone from this community got sdhc working on a HTC device which did not natively supports it.
e-mail to HTC
Good Morning Customer, Thank you for contacting HTC Europe.? There will be an updated ROM for your device soon but we can not give you a specific time on this.? We can only guarantee a 2GB card working on your device and can't guarantee the 6GB working, even with the ROM update.
I do not understand how is it possible that noone knows whats exactly the difference between SD and SDHC.
there are so many discussion on this topic, and no definite answer.
Trust they do...

I want to believe its like the difference between a cat and a cattle, firstly obviously in the name and also possibly in the compression and algorithms employed.
but still there should be some kind of RFC it's not secret stealth technology... but I can't find anything in the "internets" SDHC is like a myth... people know that it's out there but cannot explain how it happens...

Different hardware and different drivers. No mystery to it!
Yep - absolutely right - no mystery to it. In fact, SDHC is a published standard.
It is different from SD in that it uses block mode addressing instead of byte mode addressing, so unless the firmware in the device controller is designed to support botht byte and block mode addressing, it won't work.
The SD card controllers in some devices have been designed to support both types of addressing and some haven't, because they were designed before the new standard was published.
The Artemis/P3300/Orbit was not designed to support block mode addressing within the firmware, so until either HTC or someone else very clever provides an update to the SD card device controller that provides block mode addressing, the SDHC cards won't be recognised in the SD card drive...

Hey, for more than 4gb sdhc you need sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll from a device with wm6 aku 0.3.1+ (build 17944 or higher) and update os to 17944 or higher, no other way

have you checked that just by replacing these .dll-s it will work?
If you have os rom higher than 17944, you should only update these 2 files - tested on loox 560
Could you post the 2 dll and I'll give it a try.
http://rapidshare.com/files/59328091/sd.7z.html
here you go - copy 2 dll to \windows and install certs.cab
Thanks for that, unfortunately it didn't work.
Just double checking but the files you mentioned earlier were sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll , but the zip file contained sdmemory.dll and signer.dll. Did you mean to send these, or am I missing something?
Thanks
jupp, sending the right sdbus.dll - file would be great!

SDHC problem

Hi,
I'm running the excellent Artemis Touch 3.01 WM6 WWE ROM, 5.2.1921 SDHC which has been great - but it doesn't seem to support the 6GB Sandisk SDHC card I've just bought.
Can anyone suggest a fix? It's not recognised. Works fine in my mac via a card reader...
You will have to try and search for yourself first before posting.
There are many threads about this.
So make a search and you'll find it.

This will help for sure!!
I have installed SDHC-Artemis.cab (119.4 KB) and now 8GB HDSC card is working on my Artemis [HTC P3300 - windows 6.0 pro]!
Im yet to do performance benchmarking but by running media and other files i felt it is as fast as my old 1GB card.
~~~ Thanks a lot for the patch!
Steps i have followed:
1. copy this patch to Pocket PC
2. Switch off and Remove existing card (if any)
3. Boot and install patch.
4. Using desktop computer/laptop, format the new 8GB card as FAT32
(and copy all media and other files you want; its faster )
5. Switch off and insert 8GB card.
Hi,
Re-checked, just install a Kingston 4GB SDHC and the process works perfectly.
.... Thanks ....
SDHC upgrade from 2Gb default to 4Gb - Success
As a newbie around XDA Forum, I have been searching the Net and most other place for ways and means to improve my beloved Artemis.
This is one way that works - first try. I have attached a log, for other noobs to follow. (I may be a noob here and on other WM // PDA / WinDev sites, but as to my age, am 42 and moving on rapidly. 90% of IT that I know and have applied over the years, have been self taught. Currently employed as Wireless Network Engineer). For those who need to improve these (P3300 - Artemis) devices, do this, follow these steps, you will gain lots of space - now I will load apps on my device and test performance.
Main reason for much needed extra space, I run some apps which require MS .Net CF2, others .Net CF3 / 3.5. Owning this phone now since September 2008, I have discarded the TomTom, mainly use GoogleMaps, various other gps related apps, to log trips, visits and pinpoint sites - very accurate re : up to 28 digit grid reference, altitude, speed - horizontal and vertical. Also quite handy for FTP, RemoteDesktop, Skype (relatives in UK and Denmark, friends all over), WiFi, RAN network Benchmarking -{still trying to find an app that works more scientifically on WM6 - one that does not require a Nokia, although I like my N78 as well.
Before I forget and maybe go to bed, Thanks to POF, tom_condon, binuvs, indiacam, juliuscezar, Shady313, and many more members here and over at htcpedia and dhakamobile. Your insight, experience and willinness to provide comments are appreciated.
I have surfed, searched and FOUND. Now to cook my first ROM....
regards
My logfile of the process is not uploaded... I will gladly supply it to any newbie who wants the process explained in simplest steps. If you can read and use Google Translate, it will be easy - 25minutes or less.
regards
If you download this great rom (touchflo 4 WM6 Pro) it recognizes an 8Gb card with no problems. The main display only shows up to 4Gb not sure why but you can use all 8Gb of it, and it shows up as an 8Gb in the memory settings.
What´s the maximum capacity sd card proved to work safely with the htc dash/excalibur..(also, which brand could you recommend?)
I am currently using the 3VOLUTION rom from the master ookba..
Thanks..
I have SanDisk, Kingston micro sdhc cards in 2,4,8, and 16Gb, and they all work on my Excalibur running #3VO ROM WM6.5. I know other members can confirm that.
I'm using 4GB Sandisk microsd hc, without problems. 3VOLUTION ROM
I am also using a 4gb card and have had no problems.
You "should" be able to use anything up to 16GB
Should is because not all sdhc cards are made the same/same class etc....
Which is why if searched this would have already been answered SanDisk/Kingston branded if going for a high capacity, generic if small 2GB -.
