Axim x50 wm2003 update to wm5 problems - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

i hope it is ok to post for help with the axim, i noticed others have so i figured i would, since i am getting desperate.
ok obviously i am a newb at this or i probably would not have this problem so please bear with me.
i downloaded the Dell_Axim_X50_X50v_wm2005_A01 99mb file and then went threw the install process. the first problem was that since i am using vista it does not seem to work with windows mobile center v6... when it tries to install i get bast the "update rom" and the warning to backup, then it verifies the device and cautions about clearing all the data, then when i click continue it freezes and my axim says "wait for usb to be ready...", then a few seconds later the installer says "ROMUpdateUTILITY MFC application has stopped working" and i have to close the program. I then have to hard reset my axim.
i then tried to flash the rom by putting the files on the sd card like it says in this forum but when i do that i get to the "SD Image A01 update" and then it says "no suitable image found" and then "image update failed, please try again"
I have tried it with both the following images that were in the zip cause i was not sure which one was the correct one.... niether one works.
AximX50_A_WM5_A01EN
AximX50_B_WM5_A01EN
is this a vista compatability issue? a mobile center v6.1 issue? or is it my stupidy?
any advice.
all i want to do is update from wm2003se to wm 5

ok must have been vista cause i went to a friends house and upgraded fine on xp

wm5 update roms
Where do I find such rom updates? apparently Dell disavows their existence.
and how can i tell which romset to use.. low or high..?
b

can someone who has this file Dell_Axim_X50_X50v_wm2005_A01.rar upload it somewhere else please???

Having trouble upgrading to WM6

I have an 8525 and I am trying to upgrade to HTC_TyTN_WWE_3[1].54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe and I keep getting the same error message. "Error 264 The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB/cable is connected properly between the PC and your PDA Phone " My phone is connected and everythign appears fine until I try try to update. I have even tried the guide at http://www.mrvanx.org and that doesn't work either. Any ideas?
Invalid Vendor ID
O.k. I am a little further. It starts the install and then I get the "Invalid Vendor ID" error message.
Do you have activesync installed on your pc?
Are u using vista or xp?
I'm also having a problem trying to upgrade to WM6. Whenever I start the process it switches my phone into standby then as activesync can't see the phone I get an error message!
What are your answers to the two questions above? Running vista or xp? What version of activesync if any are you running?
Are your phones unlocked, CID, etc?
I don't know if it is required or not for a "official update" but have you installed HardSPL?
On another note, I would post this question into the parent thread for the rom that you are trying to install, that way you may get more looks. Good luck
Running Windows XP with Activesync 4.5 not sure about SPL?! How can i find out?
See here, http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners
Read over all of this, in Re: to the hardspl, i believe its the first hyperlink listed.
Assuming that you are set on that particular rom, what I'd do is extract the rom file from the package you downloaded using winrar and then use customruu to load it on. Ive' never had any problems with it on XP. This protects against bricking as much as possible. Also just in case you haven't seen this before, flashing roms and hardspl from here will void your warranty if you need to have it serviced at any time. There is a way to get back to warranty acceptable 'standards' though. But you can't take it in as is.

Can't exit bootloader screen

Hi,
I tried to upgrade my XDA using Ranju's latest updater, the whole process failed and now I'm stuck at the BL screen "USB" at the top (when connected, otherwise it says "serial") and "v1.00" at the bottom.
My PC, SyncCentre and Windows Mobile Device Centre (I'm using Vista) all show the device as being disconnected (up until trying to upgrade everything had been fine).
As it's not showing up on my PC all of the software options for recovering it dont fail, all end with a plethora of USB not connected errors etc
I've tried the how-to on the wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_Stuck_Bootloader_Serial to no avail.
Does anybody have any ideas? Greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Lee
with jasjar-bl1.01-ruu-v1.2 I always restart my JJ Leave your uni in bl and start the application Good luck......
I think the Vista is not the problem this upgrade don't use AS or "in italian centro gestione dispositivi WM"
Bye
M.C.
Well, I flashed my Qtek a while ago, it failed to flash (using Vista) and doing a hard reset after it whas hanging at the startupscreen(the one with all the rom/radio numbers). No matter what I tried, following the instructions on Vista windows mobile center all failed... The good news is that your computer and your PDA still see when it is connected, ie USB/Serial, like in my case!
I then tried it on my desktop/XP, it flashed without a problem...
The funny bit is that I flashed my herald (WM6) 2 times using Vista without any problem...
I cannot explain but if U have the possibility, try and see if it works on XP...!
Good luck!
are you trying to flash it WITH your SIM card and / or SD card inside? If so, try taking them both out! It worked for me a few times!
I would start by getting rid of vista !
i had the same xprience
the different was i downgrade from wm6 to wm5 (i need the vcall)
failed in vista, succeed in xp
-> my advice : try in xp !! don't forget to remove the sd card
Manual for how to flash a rom in Vista
Read this post, you have the solution to the problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313001
You need to update the driver manually, if not, will not be able to install the driver.
You need to do this without sd/sdhc and without the sim.
If you follow these instructions, you can flash with success.
Greetings.

Need Help Flashing Hx4700 to WM6.1

Hi I'm a new user and just got my hx4700 2nd hand and need some help flashing the hx4700 to wm6.1 Its wm5 right now. First I tried the normal way of flashing but when I couldn't get the ipaq to sync with the comp. I installed activesync but when I connected the cradle and ipaq nothing happens, only a new hardware found asking for software to install "Hp rndis sync". I tried installing automatically with the cd in the drive but it couldn't find any software and i couldn't get the ipaq to connect to the desktop.
So I tried using the SD card to flash the ipaq instead. I tried using both the SD_IMG program and All Image to copy the rom onto the SD card but when I go into bootloader mode all it showed was the HP logo, the version at the bottom, and the text Serial at the top. Nothing else happened.
Someone help please. I'd really wanted to get it to wm6.1 asap. Thanks in advance.
Ah solved the problem. I was using the cd that came with the ipaq. Tried the wm5 upgrade CD and it updated activesync to 4.1 and now activesync works fine. Am flashing to wm6.1 as I'm typing this Can't wait.
Btw should I be seeing anything while the files upload to the ipaq?
Ok now I'm faced with another problem. The moment the files are supposed to upload to the ipaq, and the small little window that comes out and say files should start uploading or something like that, the window behind which is supposed to have some text, hangs with only a letter 'P' and turns "not responding" I tried a soft reset and nothing was flashed yet.
I tried the GUI version of the bootloader and it seems its stucked at 0% complete forever. Doesn't hang like the non GUI version, but still doesn't start flashing either.

[Question] 260 error when updating ROM

Okay, I've searched alot to get this thing solved. When I try to update my rom, the update starts normally, but then my telephone screen turns black, my gets disconnected, windows tells me it has found new hardware. The update failes and returns error 260 (connection lost). When I soft-reset the telephone afterwards, it returns to it's old shape.
Info about my telephone.
Rom: 1.93.404.1 NLD
Radio: 1.0025.05
PC: Windows XP SP 3, Active Sync 4.5
I tried to update with this rom: RUU_Diamond_HTC_NLD_2.03.404.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship.exe
I also tried to update to Hard-SPL but that gave me the same error.
PLease guys does anyone of you know how to fix this? (personally I think it's windows xp which is screwing up).
Thanks in advance, I appreciate all help.
Yours, Martijn.
Even the tiniest tip may help (A)
I had the same trouble with that rom, I tried from internal memory and it worked. Search the wiki I am sure the info is there.
"ERROR [260] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs when there is an "open port error" before upgrading the CE ROM image. Solution: You can reset the device and run RUU again. If you still encounter an "OPEN PORT ERROR" again, reset your computer and try again."
This is what the WIKI tells me. But I have tried that. How did you manage to perform the update on the internal storage? Because I tried that with hard-spl but it wouldn't work.
Besides I only have .exe files for the Hard-Spl and the official rom from HTC.
Thanks for your reply though.
EDIT PART, just read this on another thread in the wiki:
ERROR 260 (Update Error):
"Your phone is not connected to ActiveSync. Check your connection or restart the phone. Also make sure in ActiveSync that "Allow USB connections" is checked (under File->Connection Settings). If this still doesn't help, then remove the memory card and SIM card before flashing."
I'm going to try this now, if it worked, I'll let you know
Just found out I have a CDMA version or something, I'll try google for the problem now.
Get the rom image from your temp directory and look here, found in the wiki

Does the hardware install incorrectly? My laptop did this on XP.
XP would find the new hardware, my bootloader would say USB. Then it'd tell me new hardware could not be installed properly and from there my phone suffered those symptoms - Back to where I was. Funnily enough it eventually fixed itself.

It looks alot like your problem yes. But last time the hardware installed correctly, then the patch I found for CDMA models on ppcgeeks failed, and my telephone got bricked. So I'll need to get that fixed first. After that I'll sure think twice before I try another rom update :/
Thanks for all the help though, and I have to advice everyone to not use the hard-spl for cmda users from ppcgeeks unless you're 100% sure it fits your model!

certificate error when running any unsigned apps...

Help!
I was messing around with the Ubuntu on Rhodium stuff that's posted in the Android sub-forum and I think something got corrupted/overwritten on my phone...
I extracted all the files on to a freshly formatted card and ran haret and everything worked file and I eventually got to the Ubuntu desktop. Then I did a soft reset to get back to WM and then the problems started.
I cannot run any unsigned apps whether they are installed on the storage card or internal memory. Whenever I try and run an app I get an error saying "The file blah cannot be opened either it is not signed with a trusted certificate...".
I cannot get back into Android or Ubuntu coz haret is unsigned too.
I cannot even install new apps! When I run the cab file, I get the usual "This program is from an unknown publisher..." and when I select yes for continue it immediately comes up with "Installation of blah was unsuccessful."
Time for a hard reset? I'd really prefer not to if anyone can suggest a better way of getting my phone back to how it was.

Tried installing this?
As I said in my original post, I cannot install any CABs that come from "Unknown Publishers" too and it seems that TP2-AppUnlock is one of those.
Thanks for trying,
R.
there is a setting somewhere for this. i saw it the other day while setting up a new rom.pretty sure
same problem
I have encountered the exact same issue...except that for me it occurred after booting back into WM after trying out the latest android build. Anyone have a solution?

Just found this thread that is supposed to fix the problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404170
I've already hard-reset my phone so I can't test it...
I too had the same problem but with the HTC hd2. I was trying out a 2.2 rom n the camera wasn't working so I turned off the phone, when I tried going to back android haret wouldn't run .if anybody has a fix to this please let me know.
Hi there,
Have you tried the "Security configuration Manager" mentioned in the thread linked to above?
I can't test it coz I haven't broken my phone again since the initial issue but for future reference I'd like to know if it cures the problem.
Hope this helps,
Richard
Yes i've tried security configuration manager but it still wouldn't work. Does doing the hard rest work? Thanks for the help
Yes, hard reset works.
I've used it on two occasions to fix this problem.
