looks like htc won·t release wm6 for p3600 - P3600 ROM Development

HY Guys.I HAVED ASKED THE:
hi.First of all sorry for my bad english since I
am an spanish user.My problem is that I do not understand why HTC wont release a wm6 for the P3600 since this device doesen? work verry well whit the actual released version of wm5.For all the oder new version of pda? HTC
have relesed an wm6 but not for P3600.I am a little mad sice this device
is not verry cheap you know and I can not enjoy of wm6.Thank you
WELL THEY ANSWER ME:
Hello Sir,
I understand, but apparently their decision has been taken, they
confirmed it to us (at the support centre) last week.
I'm forwarding your request and disappointment now.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please
do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEEN NO OFFICIAL WM6 FOR THE P3600?

Would be kinda weird. I have a Herald, and that's a phone with a bit lesser functionality, apart from the hardware keyboard. The P3600 deserves a WM6 update just as much as the other current-generation HTC phones.

YEP
Yes This Is What I Have Told Them And They Answer Me That Thig.so It Seems That Will Have To Use This Great Versions Of Wm6 That We Have Here In Xda Developars

I´m sure HTC complains about this website, but thank to our rom cooks my wifi works because with their flipping wm5 it never did and their support didn´t know what to do.
To tell you the truth...who cares if they don´t release a wm6 version, because if they do it,the new release would like the ones released by Dopod, same green and ****ty dialpad, windows messenger and apps that most of us can careless.

Well dta1974 you are write ho needs their wm6 rom when here we have the best for the Trinity.

..agree may be I will use a cooked rom, but it could be interesting to know how they will make tomtom installable on wm6.

TomTom is installable on WM6 and Traffic info works with for example .mUn. 2.1 TE (which is also WM6).
Since DOPOD is releasing the official ROMs it became a mess for TomTom. First with the .17 version (and cooked ROMs based on that version like
INDIGO Lite) which changed the DEVICE ID and now with the .18 version it doesn't work at all.
It's TomTom which doesn't support WM6 (yet), WM6 from HTC doesn't make a difference.

Although I agree with the general population of pissed off HTC customers, I can't say I share the same opinion about cooked ROMs. Most cooked ROMs won't be as stable as an official ROM -- with horror stories about users having to follow procedures to avoid battery life, wifi, gps and other problems.
I do admit HTC ROMs will probably include software which most of us don't need but if I ever install a cooked WM6 ROM, it'll be only if it's a cab-cut-down version based on an official Trinity WM6 ROM.
What's worse is if this injustice weren't enough, they go ahead and release a WM6 version of the P3600 with slightly better specs. Sales seem to be more important than keeping a happy customer base.

there is also the warranty problem.
if i install the cooked ROM and i have any problem with my device and i mean any -even a hardware one like non working speaker- im sure that the HTC service center will make my life hard...

I have found that to be true. The Official Dopod ROM is more stable than the cooked ROM's I've tried.

most of cooked rom are based from the original dopod... so all of them are good... HTC maybe will not release an official upgrade but their ROM will not better of official Dopod... and it's always possible to put back the orginal wm5 if you have to send device to repair... so yeah it's a pity HTC will not release an official update but cooked ROM has nothing less.

Despite being based on official ROMs, it's possible a little too much is changed each time causing instability. I mean, let's face it -- one or two enthusiast developers cooking a ROM vs an entire team of developers at HTC. I'm pretty sure their collective knowledge ensures greater ROM stability.
As simonte mentioned, should any cooked ROM cause the device any permanent hardware failure, getting the phone repaired by HTC will be a *****.
There have been times I've been tempted to give in and go for cooked but I just plain don't wanna install Olipoop's HardSPL.

Sorry I guess I don´t get it,what do you mean by that.Sorry.
Battery drain with the cooked roms?I don´t know what to say because with the rom by HTC wm5,once I turn on the GPS...man my battery starts dieing, regarless of the rom and version and a few calls later and goes from a 100% to 80% really fast.
So I got to a point that If I have this xda I don´t even think about battery drain or memory leakage,it´s just a phone (I know it´s more than that and expensive)but that how I see it.
Bye and enjoy the roms ;-)

Battery shouldn't be dying that fast. I'm using the ANZ HTC WM6 rom and have no problems. With TomTom running and RF circuits on (With a few short calls) I still get about 6 hours of battery. WiFi seems to cause huge battery drainage though, rarely get more than 3 hours with it turned on. AX3L's rom since 2.0.8.2 seem to have best battery life though when using Wifi, just depends on what you want most.

LVSW - Official Rom?

These being employed at some new version of the official ROM?
Sorry my bad english
AFAIK no, LWSV have some personal ... problems, and he actually doesnt have hermes, so maybe in future, and I hope so, because his ROM was for me stablest and best ever. I had never any problem with it. now I am on Black Satin, which is also LAST version from Jasjamming (as he said on his forum) so I am curious who left cooking new ROMS for us... maybe when we donate a little bit...

At the middle of October
And if that means that HTC are taking the time and effort to build SDHC capability into the ROM, I'm happy to wait....
(And I still believe in Santa Claus too......)
Well.... their DOPOD WM6 ROM has been on official release in Asia since July, so there most be something special coming in the European P3300 ROM over and above the Asian WM6 ROM to make it take three months longer....
I can but hope....

Now that we have at least three cookers (Fracoon, Meschle and Tom Codon, in alphabetical order) who have proven that they can build excellent ROM's, I really don't see any advantage in waiting for an official HTC ROM. I'm sure you will be disappointed.

These guys you mentioned are sure good cookers, but what about a really simple ROM without "useless" stuff into it? Just the original WM6 softwares + drivers. (and in our own languages)

I agree...even I would'nt mind a ROM without the HTC Home, TouchFlo but as stable as the ones provided by the guru's here !
But thats too much to wish for....
It probably also wouldn't invalidate my warranty if i took an official upgrade..
HTC are waiting for meschle to fix SDHC so that they can then include it in there rom!

Yes, you have a point there. Personally, I did not mind loosing the warrenty, but that may be different for others. I used the phone for about 6 months before flashing, to make sure that it was working perfectly though.

My device was replaced already... so I'm more cautious. I always flash my DVD player ROM with newest version but Artemis is a little too expansive for me to experiment. Besides, if you have unofficial ROM it's harder to diagnose source of problems and to gain HTC support help. On the other side HTC support is so poor that it may be not worth of consideration.
So I'm happy that people have possibility to try our cookers ROMs, but I will wait for HTC (about 2 weeks I hope).

WM6 "Official VS. Cooked"

I always had this question. What is so special on an Official ROM that makes it more "in flavour" that a "well cooked" one?
How about the 2 year warranty that comes with the HTC-branded P3300?

Warranty for what? For the OS? The support from the guys here is a lot more better? Support for the device? 90% of the issues are supported to be cause by the usage. Apart from the warranty what else makes Official ROMs better? (would it be faster performance, better reliability, error free operation?
there is no guaranty for the OS
Official, they finish it and test it to hell. Sure it has bugs but less serious than a cooked rom.
You also select what you install, too many roms have built in apps... just install them yourself. Every app can potentially slow the device down.
true and not true. The late roms are very good and have no or just minor bugs (instead of the early roms (but thats . The often provide usefull apps, but if you want you add own apps this could be a problem (waste of the storagememory.) if this is the case go for the lite versions...
But the new official wm6 rom has difficulties too. You cannot use the GPS Photo option or the sweet biotoch scrolling option, drivers are often outdated, updates take ages to come out, etc.
best is to find out ourself. Use USPL and flash the ROMS both and see the differences.
I think the only reason for having an official ROM on your device is when you wanna sell it or send it away for repair.
I've hacked almost all of my phones, the applications and abilities that I added were always worth more than the troubles they sometimes caused.
Thank you so much for the current feedback. Meschle, Tom, Fracoon what is your opinion?
Thanks

I have posted in vain ... am I being a pain ?

the eagle-eyed amongst may be aware via previous postings
that I am desperatley hoping to upgrade my Orange WM 5 Trinity to WM 6.1 with Orange.
my latest idea would be to somehow extract just the Orange branding only, from this rom:
RUU_HTC_TyTN_II_Kaiser_ORANGE_UK_3.28.61.0R_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.exe
could I then re-flash with one of the good WM 6.1 roms from here, and then add the Orange.
would this be possible or feasable ?
PLEASE someone tell me if I am on a wild goose chase or not
then at least I could find something else to occupy my old age ... AND stop pestering all you good folk.
thanks,
Kevin

Nope
Last update (official) for trin is still WM5
sorry
mostly, a TYtn ROm would not suit the P3600 at all
You can extract some Orange things from the ROm and try to port them to Trinity, though, I would say faisable
brds
nAr
EDIT : no one's interested in branded ROMs ... only to sell second hand maybe ... your best choice is to Hard SPL then flash an 6.5 ROM
thanks Narshorn,
the very fact that you think it may be feasable gives me some hope.
I take on board what you say re branded roms etc,
but find that I much prefer using my phone with the jogwheel, and the Orange stuff suits me very well.
I have done some re-flashing thanks to the good advice on here,
but suspect that extracting from that 6.1 rom may be beyond my capabilities.
there are many very talented folks on here, and my best hope would be that someone see this post and would offer to do it for me -
for a suitable Donation of course.
I know someone who has white trin orange branded ... il'' ask him to dump his phone one day
brds,
nAr
that's good of you to suggest ...
but would the the Orange stuff be WM5 as I have on mine ?
From what I saw, there's a vertical widget bar on left side of the screen
The interface is "buble rose"
It's orange branded
please don't think me ugrateful, but I would not want your friend to go to the trouble if uneccessary.
as I understand it, Orange never made WM 6 for Trinity, so I expect your friend has the same version as I do.
the Orange WM6.1 they did for the Kaiser roms looks similar but is actually superior, which is why I worded my first posting as I did

i found this...
http://www.torrentreactor.net/torre...TC-3600-amp;-ORANGE-SPV-M700-AX3L-OS-v2-0-8-1
on orange the trinity is called spv m700. I used to have one seems there's about 3 user made orange branded wm6.0 roms arround. give it a try
philocritus ... WOW ... top man ! ... I have just downloaded it and may try a flash later.
having read the 'read me' (which hopefully I have attached)
I am not absolutely sure that it contains the Orange branding/sidebar I seek, but the last 4 lines might indicate that it does ? - would you agree ? ...
I would welcome your opinion before I go ahead.
>>>> This ROM include:
HardSPL + OS + OEM SplashScreen + Radio + ExtROM
anyway, The ExtROM is empty and the "customization process" only
enable HSDPA and install PhoneHelper...
BTW:
your searching is superior to mine as I have tried all kind of search stings in Google & various forums for over a month now
and not even come close to with what you found !
I will now hammer all the torrent sites to see if I can anything else.
thanks a lot.
Kevin
update
I bit the bullet and tried that Rom ... it all went on fine, but sadly was an HTC branded WM6,
rather nice though it was, I have re-flashed to my WM 5 with Orange,
and taken the opportunity to also flash the 1.56.70.11 Radio.
so I continue to hope my original 'Plan A' will yield some results,
or hope that 'Plan B' ... finding that the roms you mentioned are out there.
this is all very good fun though, and thanks to this super forum, tweaking my Smartphone has become a new hobby in my retirement.
thanks,
Kevin

I've tired so many rom, and i use the stock. i can't imagine, why use anybody cooked rom on tp2.
when i had an X1 i never use the stock rom, because most of the cooked rom was fast and don't eats 60-75% of the memory. but all of the cooked rhodium rom does, and slowing my phone after half our.
i read all the time the posts, what the users or cheef wrote about a rom: fast and lite and slight and smooth, and best. and it is'nt. it's bugy and slow and annoying.
so i use the stock and can'wait what can the HTC doing with wm6.5 and new (?) manila 2.1. it'll eating memory and slowing the tp2 too? i don't belive that. maybe i'm naive. then i'll flash back my old never-falling WM6.1 stock rom.

Warranty can be applied as long as you return to original ROM before you send it to repair! so not really a void warranty
I reflashed to a cooked ROM the same day I receive my TP2 and I´m so happy!

Shame to hear your experience.
Here is complete opposite case, official ROM is so heavy and full of crap...
The wait is killing me, I want a cooked rom on my CDMA device....
and you know what else is killing me, the new network coming out on telus, and my phone that won't do 21 Mbps I might have to part ways, I hope something just as good is coming up.

When that appears to be true, I'm eagerly awaiting this update from HTC. But, in all honesty, I intend to not believe that HTC is upgrading WM as well as TF3D to HTC sense. We'll see. Would be great though!!

sorry double post...dunno how to delete
may b they will..they have no better alternatives coming for TP2...its only 1 with HW keyboard, and there are no announcments on TP3..which i wonder will b wm7 phone..mean while old hardware on TP2 can do the tricks on sense and keep business users happy for a while
