StartupAnimation - Doesn't play the .WAV file - P3600 ROM Development

To anyone who may be able to help me with this:
I'm using PDAViet 3.00.07.20, and i'm working my way in cooking it to match my preferences.
I've converted default.hv and user.hv to .RGU files so i can change some reg entrys (to add/remove apps/preferences - also editing Initflashfiles.dat). Made some changes, saved in Unicode format, and converted back to .HV files. Created the OS.NBH (well, all the right steps to have a rom ready to be flashed into the device).
Once the flashing is finished, i boot the device and stumbled upon a problem:
- The startup animation runs ok but there's no sound. I hear the speaker go ON with some background noise, but no .WAV file is actually played.
NOTE:
When i first converted the default.hv to defalt.rgu, these were the values i encountered:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Volumn"=dword:0
"WAVFile"=“\\Windows\\Startup_sounds.wav”
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\HTC Black.gif"
"Enabled"=dword:1
At first i thought it was because the entry "Volumn" was equal to 0, so it would be normal if there was no sound, but i changed it to 22, 35(advices from a friend), and 4555(i got this value when searching for an answer to this problem - i don't really remember in which thread), but the result was always the same - NO SOUND
I even changed the .WAV target to another file, but still no sound.
Then I tried another thing, just edited the rom with some customized image files, changed some entrys in the initflashfiles.dat, but left the original .HV files. Again rebuilt the rom, flashed it to my device, and no surprise, the StartupAnimation sound works!!!
So I guess the problem has something to do with the process of converting .HV files to .RGU and back.
I'm using notepad2 to edit the files.
Any help will be appreciated. Sorry for the length of the post.

UP for this problem !
Me, i have rename :
GIFFile to GIF
WAVFile to WAV
and put "0" to "ENABLE" ...
Turn off device by button "normal" not soft reset with pencil ... turn on and suprise ! no HTC sound and logo ...
Does anybody know how create a .REG file for automatic reg modification ? is the syntaxe the same for WinXP ?

I think you understood me wrong!!
The point of this thread is to make the wav file work at startup and not the other way around...

Oh yes !
Sorry, i'm tired !
Me, i search for disable the sound (just the sound) ... lol !
Your topic with registry key was that i search for tweak this HTC boot screen, without, i haven't find the correct key in registry.
Thank you !
Your registry, if it is always like the first message, is the same that there by defaut in my config (3.6 faman).
Verify if you have the two file included ... in your windows directory.

thx for ur infomation, same problems here, only a little noise heard.
i never thougt of its the problem of hv file, and I was using emeditor, i think there is something wrong with rgucomp.exe.

Same problem here too

i dont think its a good idea to edit default.hv directly, just becoz u will destory the strcture of the rom. (actually the two hv files are generated form several files). now i switch to the ways of bepe, its more assurance. if u want to modified the system core registry, use the "search fonction" of the "buildos+package_tools"

Works for me, but guys do you run total commander once reboot ? Coz only this soft so far help to access the Ex Rom
Seems to me that after a number of soft resets it no longer works. So if it is working now it may not continue to.
I want to rename Extended_Rom to Extended_Rom2 since I'm restoring everything except the registry from a Sprite Backup
(Worked well btw). Anyone got a clue how to do that
Cheers
Well... did someone figured out why are we having several experiences to unlock Extended ROM?
For me it doesn't work at all!
Neither:
- Buzz .exe http://buzzdev.net/component/option.../id,205/chk,99f2bb3ad970c21a6b337a374c7a7b1c/
- Asukal .cab http://buzzdev.net/components/com_simpleboard/uploaded/files/Uni_ExtRom_unlocker.cab
Total Commander also doesn't show the Extended ROM
Can anyone who succeded with it, detail the steps done?
The name is set in,
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1
With the key Folder = Extended_ROM so change Extended_ROM to Extended_Rom2
Thanks dah54,
done that, but the name does not change, not even from Total Commander when using the new JasJar rom

Something seems to be getting corrupted in the registry. Perhaps by a common cab we are using? I had it appear, and I copied the cabs out of it, then after a number of resets it disappeared. I checked the registry values and they where correct!
So I then did a hard reset, and a soft reset to stop the Auto install of the cabs in the Extended ROM. I changed the following to these values in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000002
and in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000
and
"Folder"="ExtROM"
and after a soft reset it reappeared, NOTE I DID NOT RUN THE TOOL again, just changed the values in the registry key. I believe this should not work, but it does.
So do you mean that some CAB in original Ext ROM, may be preventing the Unlock tool!?
Did you skiped all CABs in Ext ROM (by doing a softreset)? Or just after a specific CAB?
For me never saw Ext ROM, unlocked and visible with this i-mate ROM.
take out the _ its cos theres already a folder you cant see called Extended_Rom, i renamed mine to EXTRom and it shows as that in resco explorer, with no Extended_Rom folder Listed using buzz's method.
run the prog,
reboot,
edit the registry with EXTRom change,
accessed in resco no probs,
removed all junk,
now im set!!!

Interesting....
Mine disappeared with the new rom also, and the registry values where correct, and no amount of soft resets or running the tool would make it reappear. So after a hard reset it reappeared with just the registry change. I have changed the Folder to ExtROM on mine and that is what FE (File Explorer) is showing, and it is back again for now.
what are the exact registry values you have now? do you have a TrueFS TRUEFS_DOC1 TRUEFS_DOC2 in autoload and a TRUEFS_DOC TRUEFS_DOC1 TRUEFS_DOC2 in Profiles?

How to modifiy the icons in shellres.dll

i tryed to change the icons in shellres.dll with ResHacker, but when i put this modified file in the rom, my SPV c600 cannot recognize the MiniSD card...Have anybody tryed to modify this file?And using which tool?
First you must never touch the shellres.dll it self. To change resources create a shellres.dll.xxxx.mui (xxxx hex number of your language).
Also this is a system file so it has to be signed. When you edited it you screwed up the signature so now the system thinks its a corrupt file.
You need to first remove original signature, then edit resources, then sign it again with a trusted certificate.
Frankly I am a bit surprised the Mini SD is the only thing not working on your device right now.
Explain more PLZ

Hi there,
Could you plz explain more how to remove original signature? Also how to sign it agian with a trusted certificat?
I will remain to hear from you.
With my deep thanx
You should search this forum.
I don't remember exactly where, but there was a sort of manual on how to do it around here somewhere.
The tool to sign files is available with WM 5 and WM 6 SDK you can download from MS site. The SDK also contains test certificates, and the tools to place them on the device (provision the device) so you can use them to sing your files.
MS does not have a tool to remove signatures, only an API, but I think someone posted a tool like that here.
Sorry I can't give you more detail, I have not worked with these thing a long time.
The tool is called CeleSign. You can remove old signature and sign modified file with it.
Deep thanx for your wonderfull inforamtion about that subject. After I searched so found this:
http://www.yonsm.net/read.php?327
But unfortunetly is in Chiness.
the software can be get it from here also:

I would like to get my hands on these images too. The way I have been doing it is flash back to the original ROM, once stock flash the radio back to the new version you want, then flash the OS to the new ROM version. You have to pick a rom that doesn't touch the splash though. Only went through that PITA once. It would be nice in case a Cingular Rep ever got their hands on it.

Yeah thats the one. Can I just drop and replace this one?
from the FAQ:
Code:
Disable/change the startup animation or sound
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation
Enabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue.
You can also customize the animated boot up by deleting or changing 2 keys. (Doing this does not fix the volume issue)
Delete the WAVFile Key to remove the sound only.
Delete the GIFFile Key to remove the animation only.
Put your own .GIF file or .WAV file on the phone and rewrite the 2 keys (WAVFile GIFFile) to the new file location. i.e. \My Documents\Files\CustomAnimation.gif
The Gif key portion was where this .gif was linked on the original. Place it somewhere and change that key.

Strange... I don't have these entries. May be the ROM that I am using (Black 2.5) I will try adding them and seeing if that works.

I put the entries in as above and it did not work. I ended up using the one w/o animation. I have a feeling you only have the registry entries there to be modified if you have an OEM ROM.
I have a feeling there are a few more registery entries in there then he wrote in there - would like to see a reg dump (at least of that section). There are also probably some .DLL's or other files we need to fully get it running! Maybe I'll dump a Cingular rom later to see if I don't see anything obvious I'm assuming this is in the new Cingular rom?
Yes, should even be in the one before it since when I bought my phone about 2 months ago it was animated as well.
So far from the digging, the Registry entries are:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Volumn"=dword:10
"WAVFile"="\\Windows\\3G_Up.wav"
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\3G Up_01_1.gif"
"Enabled"=dword:1
I've not yet found any other entries related to it on a quick pass through. The animated gif and sound file I have attached but I have not yet got it to work. I did notice there is no welcomehead.96.png and I wonder if it the existence of that file on my current rom has anything to do with it. I've not been able to delete the file (part of the rom) to see if it would have any effect. This is about as much as I'll be able to figure out for right now at any rate. If anybody else has any ideas as to enabling it (is there a .DLL that needs to be loaded? Part of me wonders if there is a command to execute it built into the bootsplash within the section that is usually added as padding? Just some brainstorming.

You can delete the welcomehead.96.png by getting another file browser (like Resco Explorer or Total Commander) and changing the file permission.

Change Splash Screen?

I have a vga device running WM6 and wanted to know how to change the splash screen, mabey a nice anime background Any suggestions welcome.
well, on my Smartphone (voq, WM2003se) it worked by editing the registry. all i used to do is finding the relevant image, which is usedfor bootup. (for met it was voq_operator_splash.bmp) i couldn't rename or replace it with some other file due to it's in the rom and so undeleteable or changeable.
but the trick is : search the registry for that filename and change the relevant key to something like XYZ (your filename)_2.bmp and place your file (using the same dimensions and filename/+_02.bmp in the same dir as the original. on next bootup (maybe you have to reset first) the new logo will be shown.

Vp3g's 3.62.3 Full with SetAcoustic Now Available!

Ok. So I did find all the xml files for SetAcoustic in the rom, however didn't find the EXEC line in the precofig file.
So if you need more volume out of your earpiece
@Vp3g: if you did add it into the rom (perhaps the extended rom) then I'm sorry and this is a waste of time.
If not, d/l it and make sure to run the Volume.cc cab (attached).

Which XML files and what EXEC are you referring to? SetAcousticParam is in the startup and there's a series of CSV files, but beyond that I don't honestly know how it all relates. And what does the CAB do?

The xml files I pulled out of Schaps rom. It's a lot of xml that default open on the desktop for MS Excel. Also there is a SetAcousticParam.exe that needed to be put in the preconfig.txt (in windows.nb)
After Lock:Enabled
EXEC:\Windows\EnableHSDPA....then the att.tsk...
Then I added the EXEC:\Windows\SetAcousticParam.exe after that (sorry if syntax is a little off, doing it from the top of my head)
What is odd to me (and probably why my initial try messed up) is that although I could not see the various files in the root of the extracted windows.nb;
When I went to copy those files from my hard drive it asked if I wanted to overwrite those files. I said no, believing that they were there.
I really think that is where I messed up. (and why installation failed.)
Even after canceling the copying, I still couldn't see the setacoustic xml's...
Now the Volume_CC.cab, I was just following directions from when I had learned how to do it in the first place. I believe it does some registry editing to change the 'volume earpiece uplink' settings. It's from elsewhere on the forum.
Don't know exactly why it's needed, just that it is.?
So anyway, love your rom. But I work in a kitchen and find that the volume is just not loud enough. (I also play in a touring cover band on the weekends, so that doesn't help either.) That's why I'm always tinkering with your roms.
Thanks again.
Thanks for cooking up the volume increase into vp3g's awesome ROM config. Without the volume mod, I was pressing the phone hard on my ear to hear the other party. Now 1 or 2 clicks is plenty.
I've been using this rom for almost a week and am loving it, i don't think i'll be switching for a while.

It does this (puts these values to registry):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN
EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN0
EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN1
EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\AUDIOGAIN2
EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME "CC"
In combination to initial SetAcousticParam run after Hard Reset or New ROM installation it makes huge difference to the volume of incall sound.
Hope to helped a bit!

The setacoustic files are in the rom, they are hidden and possibly system files which is why you do not see them. SetAcoustic runs from the startup directory every time the device is reset, there is no difference if you include it in the auto config or not. I only include it in my auto config for those that believe it actually makes a difference.
I think it runs from startup directory if there is the link in the folder and ONLY once because it self deletes the ".lnk" from the startup folder
I have seen this bahaviour in 4 different ROMS . Please check it for yourself if I am correct

It makes a big (!) difference, but to get it to work the SetAcousticParam command needs to be the first command (after lock:disabled) in the preconfig.txt file. The program exits immediatelly if it's not listed as the first command, but it runs ok if it is the first command. After this you need to run the volume-cab-file to have a loud and clear volume.

It doesn't matter where it's located in the config.txt....
It's been in every rom I've made in the past 7 months and I have only ran it in the initial customization process on two, there was no notable difference. I would go through a standard battery every 4 hours I think that shows how much I used my hermes, I would know if there was a difference.

Strange!, my tests show otherwise. I have never used your roms, so I can't compare it with your findings. I installed Schaps 4.0 (and 4.01) and I saw on initial startup that SetAcousticParams was started and it exits almost immediatelly. So I extracted the rom (NBDump) and changed the two lines in preconfig.txt (make sure it was listed first), I also changed the SetAccousticParam*.* files to make then vissible (attrib -h -r -s) , did a rebuild (NBBuild), flashed it to my device and saw that SetAcousticParam was running for more than a minute and afterwards I noticed that the volume on my device was loud and clear (this was not the case when I used Schaps rom without modification).
I'm glad this is getting around!
I should have known that they were hidden files....damn attributes....
I'm shure that Custel has to be right (at least partially), he's on the top of the list of knowledgeable cookers...but I feel better seeing it run in the initial setup..
Oh well at least it works!
Question to you guys who got the setacousticparams working:
Is your speakerphone usable? Does it have the common problems of:
1. Speakerphone volume is too loud even at minimum volume setting.
2. Other party cannot hear you when using the speakerphone.
Yes, the speaker phone is usable. The volume is much better and I have no problems with the other parties hearing me. Althoguh if I remember correctly, I tried this version and the setAcoustic still did not run. I ended up adding it in the rom myself.
Help.
Okay, I am a NEWBIE. I have the HTC P3600 with original WM5 ROM. And yes the IN Call Volume in my phone is freaking low!! I did downloaded the volume. cab from above link and installed it in my Trinity. It shows in Add and remove Programs so I know it installed. BUT It does not seems to make my in call volume louder. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong??? Am I supposed to have a different ROM before installing this volume.cab? Thanks.

So.... in conclusion.....
Will just downloading the cab file solve low incall volume or is there a series of reg edits that are required first?
When i have satnav on in the car, volume at top, if I get an incoming call, the volume is too low to hear. They can hear me talking ok, but I can hardly hear them. Will this cab help?
Thanks as always,
Mattster.
Too early for "in conclusion..". I just flashed the CRC V11 ROM and watched for setacousticparam to load. I saw the file displayed for about one second before it moved to the next file. My previous experience with the Kin0Kin ROMS were that this file takes a rather long time to execute.
Other than a qualitative evaluation (my sound isn't good, etc.), is there a way to check that setacousticparam has executed properly?

Yes I had the same observation with CRCs r11.0. Setacousticparam doesnt run properly (it quits after 2-3 seconds).
At first I thought this was because it was not the first EXEC item in the 'preconfig.txt' file. From past experience rebuilding ROMs, I found that setacousticparam only runs properly if it is the first EXEC item in preconfig.txt
I redid CRCs r11 ROM, changing setacousticparam to the first EXEC item in preconfig.txt. It still did not run properly. So something else in that ROM is causing it not to work.
I'm now trying to do the same thing with CRCs older WM6.1 ROMs to see if I can get setacousticparam to work properly.
UPDATE: Tried CRCs 9.2, 10.8 and 11.0. All couldn't run setacousticparam properly. I also tried removing the attributes -h -r -s from the .csv files. No go. Could it be that setacousticparam is incompatible with WM6.1?
One thing is for sure though:
If setacousticparam runs properly, it takes around 1 minute to run. If not, then it exits within 2 to 3 seconds. Conversely if setacousticparam runs for only 2-3 seconds, then it did not work.
