Improvement Advices please! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I have a MDA from T-Mobile with:
- IPL: 1.01
- SPL: 1.40.Olipro
- OS: WM6 CE 5.2.1933 ; Build 18533.0.7.0
- ROM: Schap's WM6 Pro 4.00 RC 25/09/2007 (FULL MODE)
- Radio: 1.16.00.00
- Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
I had a few problems with the No GSM, but now everything seems normal.
What improvements would you advise?
SPL to the latest 2.10 or 2.30?
Radio upgrade?
Is it possible to upgrade the Protocol Version? What does it mean?

My personal opinion..do not play with IPL/SPL unless its a die situation...try upgrading radio, i find that some radios are better than others in my device...
Learn how to cook and be a flash junkie...LOL

Most of the times I feel the GSM reception is too weak.
Improving the radio will make reception better?
Wich do you recommend me to instal?? Hermes 300

Yeah, a better Radio will improve your signal, and also save on battery life. 1.54 is the latest and seems to work well for everyone else i know
Check the hermes wiki links above and you can download it there.

Who is your provider?
My stock AT&T radio (1.40) worked good, but i prefer to use higher versions just in case...I dont have any problems with the current one that i am using right now (see signature)

Portugal TMN
I´ve seen those Rom´s for audio upgrade and have researched on how to install them, I think I can make it with sucess. However, I want your opinion on upgrading SPL before the audio update please
"need bootloader version 1.04 to upgrade your radio and ?RadioBootloader version 107 or less"
in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
How can I check this?

I´ve update the SPL to the 2.10 Olipro and the Radio to the latest version.
However, I can´t make 3G calls, any ideias? It wasn´t working before the update either.

radio o depends on ur provider a lot.
i use 1.43 for australia. 1.54 is ltest but it sux in australia.
so get feedback from those in a similar region. 1.16 is gonna be stuffed either way, there r much better versions.
i also use htc released rom for phone os.

Well, I´ve installed the latest radio and now I´m back with the NO GSM message.
i wonder ir this is a problem with my installation, with the radio rom files, or with my PDA?
Any help please

it means u screwed it up n didnt follow instructions, and probably didnt read wiki.
get a new radio version, or do it again n reflash it.
ensure u have the right ipl/spl version n u understand the risks n bricking when u r upgrading radios.
i have completely wiped my device n bricked it doing radios. so re flash a rom of choice, reflash radios and alllow lots of hours redoing it all.
suggest u try just reflash a radio that works for ur region. be prepared to lose everything n hope u have backed it up before u starrted.

I didn´t bricked. I bought it bricked.
I´have been trying for the past week to recover it from a brick. I´ve read every tutorial in this forum, and didn´t screw up.
However, I haven´t yet found a Radio Rom that work´s stable in this MDA in Portugal TMN.
I´ve tried 1.16.00, 1.38, 1.40, 1.57 (both). When with 1.16 it worked for 2 days in a row, however after that the no gms appears once in a while.

hmmm, im not sure, cant remember but i think that settings will be saved!
I have a Jasjar, which was running:
ROM version 1.13.53 WWE
Radio version 1.03.01
ExtROM version 1.13.137 WWE
I ran the radio-only upgrade, which errored the first time but ran without problem the second time. After a soft reset, I now have:
ROM version 1.13.53 WWE
Radio version 1.04.02
ExtROM version 1.13.137 WWE
All my settings/hacks were retained and no information was lost. The radio appears to be stable.
Hi, Sorry... im posting a newbie question... please ignore if "beneath" you...
Im confused on the "radio" upgrade thing. I mean, is this really the radio that we know of (FM/AM)? Why the need for upgrade? How do i make the radio work then?
Laugh all you want, read all your posts and i still dont get it.
The "radio" portion of the Jasjar is the phone/gprs componentry. The rest of the Jasjar is the PDA componentry. Because, theoretically at least, WM5 products can be PDA-only and because the radio portion of WM5 products can vary widely (differing standards for various parts of the world), the firmware is released in two parts: the base operating system for the PDA and the radio subsystem addition for the phone/gprs functions. This explanation is somewhat broad, and not 100% accurate, but hopefully provides some clarification.
can i use this to update my orange spv m5000? or is there another version for it..\
cheers
ok i've tried several times now and its not working.....
its not working for my spv m5000 either

Thanks for the explanation.. that was tech101 for me I get it now.. It's the "phone" part then.. upgrading the radio might have something to do with connecting wifi, bt etc... and i really though i could tune in to my favorite radio station.. haha
Thanks a heap!

You are welcome. BTW, something like this http://www.dealsonic.com/csdsedifmstr.html would add AM-FM capability to a Jasjar if WM5 drivers are available. Note though that it would seriously truncate battery life.
FYI, the SD-Radio is the older model.
Take a look at the sleeker SD-Radio2...

Benefit of Radio 1.04 over 1.03?
Just got my i-mate jasjar. Wondering about upgrades but it seems to work and if it aint broke, dont fix it!!
For those who have flashed from 1.03 to 1.04, what improvements were there?
Thanx
I just updated my 1.03.00 to 1.04.10 on my Qtek 9000
The biggest improvement is the time from hitting the 'pick-up' button to the connection being established. On the older version, this took about 5-7 seconds.... on new version, this happens instantly.
Maybe it's just me, but i think the sound quality of the phonecall is improved too.
Post deleted as I managed to upgrade the radio stack successfully to 1.04.10
cheers guys

hi
can anyone point me in the direction of the download for this rom - i keep seeing it in people's sigs and i'm jealous

A newer version of the radio stack is not necessarily better than the older one. For example, several members in the UK find 1.09 works better than 1.11
I don't know where the 1.12 radio stack is, but the 1.11 is available here: ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Universal/Radio
1.11 radio problems
I have had strange probems with 1.11, including loss of signal & inability to dial in places where there is a signal. Only starts working again after a soft reset. Its intermittent but reason enough to go back to the QTEK ROM with radio 1.09.

I have a feeling that it depends on where you use your phone...
I had the same probs with droping calls where the phone worked before in the UK with 1.11 going to try 1.10 for a bit.
How To Upgrade MDA PRO from Chinese to English
Hi,
I just bought a T-Mobile MDA PRO in China but it is in Chinese. Can some one advise me which WWE ROM I should use in order not to cause the system hang after upgrade? Can I upgrade WWE ROM from other brand? I got the following info from the set:
ROM version: 1.00.00WWE
Radio version: 1.06.00
Protocol version: 42.40.P8
ExtROM version: 1.13.134 CHT
Thank your in advace

fongsg: Go for the Qtek AKU2 ROM 1.30.77 1.30.176 1.09.00 WWE.
It is one of the few ROMs which have AKU2 as well as A2DP for Bluetooth. It's quite fast and stable as well. The radio ROM is also very stable - apparently better than the 1.11 stack.
i upgraded to radio 1.08 and so far have been having lots of probs with the signal, also losing my net connection etc.. anyone suggest a good radio?

Try 1.09. It seems to be the most popular radio stack at the moment.

what about RADIO 1.10 from T-mobile ???
1.10 gives me the best reception (in the Netherlands)
I'm having problems with 1.09 in the US I drop my GPRS and calls fail all the time. I am upgrading to 1.11 to see if this helps.
1.11 is REALLY bad in the UK on o2, bad signal, and once lost it is impossible to get back, have to switch off radio and then back on to get the signal back. That's my experience anyway, 1.09 is the best I have used so far, very strong signal and very stable
Using an O2 XDA Exec with Radio 1.09 in Asia [Manila, Philippines] any other Universal users who have updated to Radio 1.11? How is it? Does it perform better compared to 1.09? I am unsure if I should update my Radio to 1.11, some posts here say 1.11 is unstable for their territory but I would like some info on 1.11 radio ussage in Asia. TIA.
No problems here using 1.11. Been using it for about 1 month. Portugal territory

Hey guys,
Where I could download a stable Qtek 9000 ROM which is best in HK and Manila...?
Thanks

does anyone have the radio rom 1.11

I have upgraded from 1.09 tp 1.13, but I have the impresion that it doesn't work smoothly(names of caller doesn't appear and it is slow when I accept a call i didn't have these problems with 1.09).. I searched around on the forum and came to understand that it depends wich provider you have it will work perfectly.. i Have T-mobile Netherlands.. somebody suggested that radio version 1.11 works best. Is it true or, is a radio rom provider independent???
Can anyone tell me where i can find version 1.11, because on the xda-developrs ftp i can't find it.
Hi,
I guess You read my post about radio 1.11
I'm from Holland,The Hague too.
Go to the Wiki site and enter the FTP
Browse to Universal - radio and download
Dopod_900_RadioROM_1.11.00.zip
Let me know how ik work out.
Sharky
thanks man, i just flashed it on my qtek9000... I'm gonna test it these couple of days and i'll see of it works better than 1.13 that i flashed a month ago.. I hope so.. I'll keep you posted, did you used 1.11 , because I see at your signature that you're using 1.10 now or is that old info??
I can't find it on Wiki has it been removed?
I have not tried 1.09 or 1.10. But heard 1.09 is a good Radio.
I moved from 1.04 to 1.11 (Dopod 900 complete ROM update).
I have moved 1.11 to 1.13 (Radio upgrade only from here)
1.04 seems to have very bad memory leakage.
1.11 (for Singapore) seems stable in terms of memory leakage, but seems to sometimes miss call.
1.13 (not for Singapore) seems to have slight memory leakage compare to 1.04, but seems better in terms of call.
Memory leakage = the longer you use from soft reset to soft reset, you get less and less RAM/Program Memory even without running any other applications.
I cannot find radio1.13, please point me in the right direction
1.13
ftp:/xda:[email protected]_ROM_1.13_for_T-Mobile_MDA_Pro_German.zip
Refer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281587&highlight=upgrade for partial upgrade.
1.11
ftp:/xda:[email protected]/Universal/Shipped_Complete_Updates/UNI_DOPOD_ASIA_130111_130230_11100_WWE.exe
You have to extract radio_.nbf from UNI_DOPOD_ASIA_130111_130230_11100_WWE.exe and do a partial upgrade.
Refer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281587&highlight=upgrade for extract and partial upgrade.

Can I upgrade Radio Rom?

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could upgrade the Radio Rom. I tried to find out what my Radio Bootloader was through the WIKI site but could not get the commands to work. All I know is that I have:
Rom Version: Schap's 4.01
Rom Date: 10/03/07
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01W
ExtRom Version: 4.01.20071111
IPL: 1.01
SPL: 1.40.Olipro
I think that I need a newer Radio Rom as that one seems a bit old. The phone takes about 1.5 seconds to come back from sleep when clicking the power button.
You will have no problems upgrading radio. My phone started with 1.16 and is no up to 1.54.
sure, you can update the radio.
i suggest upgrading your IPL/SPL to HardSPL 7 or 9. i am currently using HardSPL 9 (2.60 Olipro), at the very least if you have a corrupted radio flash you will have your system bootable instead of a dead brick.
check out the ftp repository for xda-developers, you will be able to find v7 there (v9 is in the upload folder, but make sure you _only_ use it if you know what you are doing.)
Definitely upgrade SPL first, also do a little reading around, some radio roms work better in some countries than others and better on some network providers.

How to upgrade Radio only

I'm a newbie and I've recently upgraded my HTC Cingular 8525 to the following =>
ROM = WM6.1 Touch Build 20924 V2.7
HardSPL = Ver 7
Image = Hard-SPL-2.10
IPL = 1.04 (G3 Series phone)
SPL = 2.10.01ipro
Operator version: PDAViet.net
ROM version: DVH_V27_BS
ROM date: 10/30/08co3.62.DVH.V27
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
ExtROM version: Black(Full)
HTC Hermes: HERM100
CPU: Samsung 2442A
Speed: 400 MHz
Ram size: 64MB
Flash size: 128 MB
Data bus: 32 bits
Storage size: 67.41 MB
This ROM seems to work great and is very stable and I've noticed a
dramatic improvement in my battery life and faster boot times.
I want to easily upgrade the Radio to a more recent Radio than 1.16.
What is the method of upgrading just the Radio to a recent stable Radio?
What version of the HTC Wizard Radios are recommended? I have seen
a number of posts that indicate users have Radio Version 1.47 and some
with later Radio versions. What are the advantages / risks involved in
a Radio upgrade? I assume that a newer Radio would be able to get
a better 3G signal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - John
For starters the wizard isnt a 3g phone so you wont get a better 3g signal and seeing as you have actually got a hermes if you tried flashing a wizard radio you will turn your nice cool little ppc into a paperweight SO DONT EVEN TRY FLASHING A WIZARD RADIO
Anyway radios are high risk for flashing so think carefully before upgrading the radio , you need to consider the pro's and cons of actually upgrading it.
Do you have loss of signal, keep getting disconnected or calls failing to dial, if not then why change the radio.
I am not trying to scaremonger here, but flashing just roms that have no radio is reasonably safe as 99% of the time, errors can be corrected quite easily, when a radio goes wrong it can be a completely different ball game.
Anyway if that hasnt scared you SH**less ,I have personally found that radio 1.47 is the best in my wizard, but i am in the uk and i actually have a wizard and a hermes and an orbit?
To upgrade the radio you just follow the same procedure you do with upgrading a rom ,except of course it is only the radio that is being upgraded and you dont need to reinstall everything afterwards. The O.S. is left exactly the same as before the flash.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET A HERMES RADIO if you do want to try flashing a new radio
Sources for Hermes Radio ROM Upgrades
Thanks for your reply. I was hoping for a slightly better signal in marginal reception regions and I had heard that the newer Radios have better reception.
Also with regard to Hermes Radio ROM upgrades - any suggestion on
where to find the 1.47 Hermes Radio ROM that I can upgrade?
Thanks in advance - John
If i was you i would seriously read the wiki here under hermes after you have read some of that i would try one of these that are found here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
remember what i said though there is a greater risk of bricking your device flashing a radio
