Artemis VGA Video Recording (With similar Quality to Nokia N95) - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

hello
I was wondering whether there is an app out there that enables you to record video in 640*480 resolution, where the quality of the video is similar to the N95.
If processing power is a problem, i can overclock to 260Mhz (and higher if necessary).
All comments are welcome.
Thanks in advance, Uzzy

i'm pretty sure it's a hardware limitation and not a software one.

CoolCamera in theory is supposed to give VGA recording, but whether it's the same quality as the N95 is another question.
http://www.ateksoft.com/
I've played about with this in the past, but it always seems a little slow, but it has so many settings that it could be something that just need tinkering with.
Good luck

are there any other programs for web cam and working good?

BlueAngel Camera and VideoCam Quality

hiya, i'm really thinking of getting a BlueAngel (SPV M2000 (orange obviously)) and well it has all the things that are great and hence there being a whole site devoted to it...
My only doubts are Video quality. Would it be possible for someone (or more) to record a short video of anything, and try it on various settings (320x240, no sound, overclocking etc...) and post it on here please
Also, what is your opinion on the camera? do you think it lacks or do you think its good for the device?
ok thanks alot you guys if you cannot upload for whatever reason, send it vie email to [email protected] (add me if you wish, the more people, the merrier! )
The camera might as well not be there it is so bad. Maybe look at the Tytn (SPV M3100) it is a great phone and the camera is very good.
I can send you some photos and some videos of my cat I have taken on it if you want.
yeh that would be great haha thanks i'll pm you too and ask
Camera in BA is poor, but its ONLY for MMS, so Ppcnut, dont treat it so badly.
Curiously, before take picture, preview quality is good, (in BA) but after shoot the photo, quality decrease as though ISO goes VeryHigh to create undesirable effects.
To result from that, video recording is very good, only 15fps, but quality is good.
So maybe cam drivers can resolve that problem?

Artemis and Video recording

Hello there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know that video recording on PDA is bad in each resolution, but is way to record video on Artemis in 320x240? 176x144 is very poor and other PDAs have possibility record video up to 352x244. Artemis probably has "weak" CPU for greater resolution. But know and use anybody some app or patch to increase video recording resolution? I try coolcamera, but it doesn't useful.
yes i would like to know too......
...
Really any experiences?
This would be a great thing i do alot o recording of video with my Artemis, anyone got a good work around for it?
Just bringing this thread back up incase someone has found a solution.
Would some registry hack work to increase video resolution??
Sorry if I'm bumping this old thread, but I didn't want to open one by myself.
So... anyone has a solution for this *lack* of our beloved Artemis?
me too ...
i wanna know if anything i can do to increase the video resolution
Solution?
Have you guys tried change this registry key?
HKey Local Machine\Software\HTC\Camera\ReParam\MP4Large (or Medium or Small).
Change the FramRate value from 10 to 19
*don't exceed 19
I haven't yet, but I heard it works fine......
So?Anybody?

Better Recoding Video Quality with XPERIA CAMERA

Hi brothers, now I wrtie to ask if somebody knows where is the register entry for the xperia camera, I think i found it but it won't show all the entries that the HTC cameras show. The HTC cameras registry entries has all detailed on different folders like JPEG settings, medium quality video, high qualitity video, and stuff like that.
Well, I think that I have the solution for the bad quality video of the xperia when you shake o move your phone, I think you know that I mean. You see always pixelation, and that have various reasons. One is that the video format is very bad quality for, it's only 3GP and we don't have a choice like other HTC Cameras when you have MP4, CIF and other formats. Other reason is the video's bitrate and THIS is our solution.
If we can turn up the bitrate of course we'll have better quality in the videos and we can see especialy an improment in scenarios like sports when we have to move the phone very much. Of course, that bitrate increment become the video more heavy but that's something we have to deal with because the quality worth it.
Other solution is find a way to change the video format to H264 or MP4 and combine the bitrate idea with this video format too.
I have been making some experiments but no luck yet. Any ideas?
Nobody?
I'm sure that somebody can post one good idea. Come on people, you guys make the best HTC's roms and more, I don't think you have no idea about solving this. Somebody?
I think its Sony+HTC problem, not something that belongs to here ...
just like u can't have smile shutter, same ways, u can't change recording format ... may be some time in future, Sony might add support for h264 recording in firmwares, just like they added auto flash and geotag in leaked R3AA/R4AA rom.
Thanks for the reply
Thnaks for the answer! You are totally right in every point BUT I think that waiting is not an option for me because I bought the Xperia almost replacing my HTC TyTN + Sony Camera. I like to record almost all the concerts I go and the Xperia is the right option if we can make some camera improvements. I think if someone give me the xperia camera source code I can do everything by myself, or at least that is that I have in mind
Even, I think we can make a few changes for the camera to allow to zoom when recording video (if somebody haven't done it yet..).
In other hand, where can I find the R4AA rom? I didn't know that was already out. Again, thanks for the reply!

there is no r4aa. he was refering to unknown sourced leaked camera app with geotagging and auto flash, which supposed to be present in r3aa, but never was actually.
zoom facility in the video recording of the xperia is a very welcome step...hope somebody smart enough in the xda forum look forward to it...
I think it could be done, because the camera app uses a system file to access the camera, then it uses a video or picture encoder to produce a picture or a video. If somebody change the encoder and set the new parameters or settings into the camera app i think that it will work.
Exactly
And I'm your men, I wanna do that, but I have to view the source code or something. Where can I find it? Anyone on this forum can give me a hand to start working? Thanks!
I think that the better way is create a new camera app and add lots of features and then sell the app to a company like spb.

hahah nice one, Good luck with it.
if the wanted to make it a camera phone then the wouldn't put wortless camera in it. i wonder why sony didn't put better camera in it like SE k versions my old k750 has better camera .

Excited about possible video recorder cab from the Xperia X2

I know that we can get better quality video recording out of the TP2, with the first WinMo phone shooting WVGA @ 30fps with the exact same hardware (minus cam module), I'm excited to see if someone can work their magic to incorporate better recording from the TP2.
Anyone else?
Cyph
I too am curious about this. I have actually always been curious as to whether the video capabilities are more software dependent or hardware... Though if the phone is capable of displaying the video on the viewfinder at WVGA at 30fps it should theoretically be possible to record at that quality. Anyways, we'll see what crops up later
Not at all

Unfortunately the above statement is not at all true. Recording depends heavily on the camera hardware in terms of possible frame rate at a given resolution. Furthermore real-time compression and encoding is a significantly different proposition to the CPU than decoding and playback. This is not to say the TP2 hardware may not be capable of doing better than it does, just that playback capabilities are no indication.

Like I said, I don't know how much the camera module affects it. And what I meant by theoretically is that if it can display that on the viewfinder at that res then theoretically it could be recorded in raw format (as long as the transfer to the memory could handle the speed), but it would not be practical by any means. But if the x2 is capable of it and IF the ONLY difference is the camera module, and IF the camera module is just the sensor and no graphics processing then it could possibly happen. And I'd love to see it. But neither am I going to hold my breath.

You see minutes 4:29 ..... But WVGA recording resolution is 720x480? or 800x480?
Thanks
The Xperia X2 has the same CPU as the Rhodium and in theory the video recording abilities can therefore be ported. The drivers for video recording must be extracted and put into the Rhodium ROM.
Even if the Rhodium camera or drivers doesn´t handle WVGA widescreen recording it´s possible with some development work to use better encoding drivers - i.e record VGA but let a good MP4 encoder with good quality do the encoding job (i.e replace the original HTC video encoder with a better one).
In this case the original HTC camera application is retained but with replaced encoders. The user only sees a quality difference - the handling of the camera app is the same otherwise.

That's definitely be a good thing. Maybe it could even up the fps a little bit.

Well if we can get someone on that I'd be willing to pay (big - ROM COOKERS LISTENING?? :-D ) for the capability to enhance the video recording capabilities. I just need an additional 10 fps and maybe another 200 kb/s bit rate for excellent video. That would make the video recorder to 30 fps @ ~ 1Mb/s..niiice.
If they can accomplish WVGA or even D1 (720x480) that would be cool too (or better).
I wish I had the skills/tools to do that, I'd be all over it like white on rice! LOL
Cyph
Personally I don't need 30fps (though it'd be nice). I'd be happy with a video standard such as 23.976fps or whatnot. 20 does look stuttery. Just a few more would fix that. Well. Let's hope someone looks into it. Though it might be necessary that we wait until the x2 is actually released

[Q] Touch Pro 2 video recording quality?

Recorded a video last night and uploaded it to Youtube but Im not impressed with the quality.
Checking the settings its set to 640x480 (VGA) but the video is awfully blocky. I was under the impression that VGA recording on the TP2 was rather good.
Am I expecting too much from the device or is there something amiss here?
Does noone have any input on this? Is the linked video what I should expect from TP2 video footage?
What settings did you use?
I use Resolution L (320x240) and Capture Format MPEG4
Comes out fine for me.
Capture Format: MPEG4
Resolution: VGA (640x480)
Its blocky both on the Youtube conversion and on the phone itself.
Could it simply be a result of poor recording venue?
If there is low light this will make a difference. But test and see. Try the slightly lower resolution (because then it can cope with better compression and may be less blocky). Would be interested if anyone else has different settings. Cheers.
