Windows Mobile 6.1? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Has anyone heard or learned something about the new WM6.1?
Some people say that the the main changes are the following:
-Copy / Paste
- Domain Enroll in Settings (Enrolling in a domain will connect your device with company resources.)
- New home screen (pan left and right to check out missed calls, notifications like email, sms, etc.)
- Change Master Security Code
- Added text input settings
- Recent Programs when pressing Start menu
- Threaded SMS!
- When you compose an email, or SMS, and start typing the name of the contact in the "To:" field, the contact names finally pop up like Windows Mobile Professional!
- Internet Explorer now lets you define a homepage, and also zoom in and out using a nice and clean interface
For more information (mainly picture shots) go to:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/gallery/handsets/windows-mobile-61/?page=1#picture_nav

as has been mentioned before, windows mobile 6.1 with the carosel thingy is smartphones, not for phones that use a stylus.

mattie's response should be in the wiki

I was going to say, you oculd do most of those things in WM5
hahaha

Passwording SMS Folder in TF3D

Afternoon,
I'm looking for a (preferably freeware) application that password protects SMS (and perhaps email) folders on the HD whilst using the TF3D interface.
I'm using Dutty's 1.8 ROM and like the TF3D interface (esp the calendar) so don't really want to go to the standard WM6.1 GUI, although I know there are programs that enable this feature if you choose to use this interface.
Is anyone able to offer any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.
No joy then!
have a look on this post...
don't know if it's what you want.

Ok
Thanks.
What i've done is removed the "SMS" and "Mail" tabs from TF3D
This means that you use the exact same SMS setup as if TF3d is disabled.
What would be good would be if it was possible to make the "SMS" tab link directly to the account selection page, meaning there was no message preview envelope, as even with Eye on Privacy installed, you can still read messages in TF3d, with a password prompt only occurring when you enter the windows messaging bit.

Smart search on TP2, and custom tabs in TF3D

Is there a smart search option on this phone?
I just think there is a potential to do a lot more with the keyboard. Some sort of smart search (ala Palm Pre) would be great. From standby, just slide out the keyboard and start typing and list out the possibilities. Maybe start typing a name and any matches start popping up with options to directly call, text or email. Or a URL to go directly to a website, or save in notes (sometimes you see a website address you wanna check out later). Of course, there would be google/wikipedia search options too.
There should also be shortcuts with the keyboard too. Anyway to link certain keys (or combos) to launch apps (e.g. straight into SMS mode) or certain settings (e.g. bluetooth on/off)?
Another idea I think could be useful is integrating a facebook or twitter tab into TouchFlo3D directly. Is this possible?

Any way to review all messages in Message Tab?

hi Guys
I was wondering whether there is a way to review all messages in the Message Tab?
It shows the last message that was received and i have to finger scroll up and down to see all the messages. Moreover, it doesn't show me all the sent messages too, so trying to figure out what the message was related to has led to some confusing conversation.
Is there a way to show all the messages in the tab ? Tried looking for it on this search forum, but I wasn't able to find any, possibly due to the wrong keywords.
Thanks !
I'm assuming you mean in the TouchFlo 3D interface... It took me a while to stumble on this one myself (but it made sense thinking about the interface with other tabs), but you can go through the messages by dragging your finger up and down on the message on-screen. Dragging bottom-to-top goes backwards chronologically, and top-to-bottom goes forward.
Hope that helps.
thanks for the post.
Yeah i know that is how to go through the messages.
I was hoping i could see all messages displayed on the tab, instead of one message.
Is there a way to do this ?
I don't think that's possible, but you can tab on the message to open up the TF3D interface to view the conversation thread with the recipient, or click on All Messages (left softkey menu) to open the Windows Mobile interface to see the list of messages with various recipients.
Thanks for the reply.
That kinda is inconvenient. i would like to see all the new messages from different people, and i had already missed a few messages without thinking of going through the All Messages tab.
Wished there was a way to see all incoming new messages from different people at least.
Seeing as how it's still WM 6.1, I figured I'd just reuse all the old programs from my Wing. So I reinstalled the 750v palm threaded SMS program (which overwrites the current messaging app) and all was good in the world. Well, only somewhat...
Unfortunately, MMS no longer works which is really weird because it worked perfectly fine on my Wing. Now when I try to send a MMS, I keep getting the "Out of Memory" error. Oddly enough, I never got that error on the Wing... and it had a fraction of the memory compared to this beast.
Hopefully when 6.5 comes out, this can be resolved (or a program that automatically marks all your SMS's as read). Until then, the only solution I have been able to find has already been mentioned... and that's to manually swipe through each message. Sucks if you're a big texter since you can easily rack up tens (if not hundreds) of messages in a short period of time.
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, i am a huge texter and i am loving the TP2. I could practically write an essay on it, and i won't feel like it is bogging me down.
Hence why i had "ignored" so many messages lol
With my Vodafone brnaded Touch Pro2 the left soft key is programmed to show "all messages" guess this is what you want but not sure how they managed it, I presume it is a reg edit. Maybe someone else knows which one.
Cheers

This is an interesting thread, as it highlights the design vs. functionality features of TF3D. As the author of this thread, me too would like to be able to see more than one message on the SMS tab and also have the option to have the reply go to the standard WM6.1 windows instead of the TF3D reply.

You can already do this... kind of. When you go to the SMS tab, click left softkey for "All Messages." This will take you to the default SMS program you have on your phone (in my case, it will launch the Palm Threaded SMS). From here you can reply to any messages you have received. It takes a little longer to reply because you have to open the default SMS program then click the thread you want to reply to. Either way, it works.
Hope this helps!
Yeah I do heavy texting and emails but the touch flow 2d is really crappy. You can't even copy and paste!
I know I shouldn't say it but just simple think like the the safari web browser, sms messaging and big onscreen keypad is being missed on my iphone.

You can't copy and paste in the TP2 text program? Something I do every day on my Mogul? Geez, I really want this phone when it comes to Sprint, but that doesn't sound to good

Yeah it SMS on touchflo sucks bad. I am little weary with my purchase so far since I don't know I've run into a lot these little disappointments.
I guess I was spoiled by the iphone simple and clean interface. Even the dialpad seems kind of small and awkward to use. I am just hoping for some hardspl mods so I can see if this device can still woo me.
You CAN copy & paste from any SMS. Just open the message, or scroll down (if in threaded mode) to the item you want to copy, tap MENU, check SELECT TEXT, highlight the text, tap & hold then select copy.
It's 1 more step than before when I can simply highlight the text or number directly without having to tap menu. I guess the new TouchFlo 3D will have problems guessing if we want to highlight some text or scroll left/right when we slide our fingers across.

When you said threaded mode, i am assuming you meant the Windows Mobile SMS app right ?
This is to clarify that the TF3D doesn't have the select text->cut and paste functionality but the Windows Mobile app does. You need to click on the left soft key "All messages" to bring up the Windows Mobile SMS screen, select the conversation, and you can then use Putra's instructions for text selection, copy and paste functionality.
Yes, in TF3D (or manila 2d), you can only read 1 sms at a time and limited to reply, forward & delete.
If you want to copy & paste, you need to open the Win Mob SMS application as outlined by btong1978

Anyway to fix this dual texting crap?

Delete.
One's man burden is another man's blessing!
Most folks seem to hate the threaded SMS which you like, for reasons including that you get such a tiny little area to see what you've typed, plus you don't have the option of adding other recipients.
I'm not trying to get into a debate about it .. just hoping to point out that there is more than one solution to your problem of "dual texting crap": I haven't seen any tweaks to embrace the nice new interface, but here is one for killing it and sticking with the tried and tested 30 year old way ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373681
BTW .. a bonus is that once you have applied this, you can easily change your mind later and simply go and toggle the value between 0 and 1 without rebooting the device
Hope this helps
I have to agree with vin5cent0, I bl**dy hate the WM SMS reply interface. It's _so_ ugly. I don't care for threaded SMS's though.
Maybe you'd like Vito SMS-Chat, vin5cent0?
I prefer the TF3d threaded interface over the windows mobile interface as well. However it only appears accessable by replying to a message on the messaging tab in TF3d. Any new message or other way of replying to a message brings up the older WM interface. I would like be able to use the TF3d threaded interface for all the ways you can send a text.
This is the first i've seen someone wanting to actually embrace the TF3d message interface. It's woefully inferior to the WM one for the following reasons:
1.) Lack of character counter for sending message
2.) No support for signatures
3.) Phone numbers aren't clickable
4.) URL's aren't clickable
5.) Stupid Soft Key for Sent isn't the same as WM messaging program and is back (without confirmation) instead of send resulting in lost messages
6.) Reply to: screen / threaded view TERRIBLY SLOW when you have a lot of messages - we're talking 10 seconds pauses sometimes when pulling it up or replying (I imported all my SMS from my old phone so I have 9k text messages currently...)
I'll take functionally over "prettiness" any day. If they can fix these issues, I'd use it again I suppose. For now I'm using the "zoom sms" hack to disable the TF3d reply to interface and it goes to the WM instead.

Making a stock ROM livable

I've been living with the AT&T Tilt 2 stock rom for awhile now and have gotten it tweaked to the point where it works well and does what i want it to do. I'm just setting this thread up to share what i've got installed and what mods/tweaks are working for me. I'll be adding to them as i go along because i'm constantly fiddling with and tweaking my phone. I've gotten most of the applications i use from right here on xda-devs, and a quick search should pull em up. So without further ado here they are:
Tilt 2 Tweaks
Changing TF3D Search Provider:
HKCU/Software/HTC/Manila
dword=InternetSearchUrl
Change to=http://www.google.com/m/search/?q=%s
Or=http://
Camera Tweaks:
going in to each one and making sure that the key "Enable" is set to "1"
Burst
Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\P6
Sports
Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\P8
Video Share
Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\P9
Change what it says on slider in lockscreen:
Under lockscreen in windows folder
In Ls_LockScene_480x800.cpr (adapt to your resolution) :
<Text ID="SlideToUnlock" Top="90" Width="480" Height="34" FontFamily="Tahoma" FontSize="9" Wrap="False" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Middle" InnerTextType="Resource" Text="shellresapps.dll,18149">
Replace "Resource" by "Literal" and Text="shellresapps.dll,18150" by Text="Slide me if you dare !" (or whatever you want to be displayed here) !
Same for the "TapOrSlide" section
Changing color of clocks in TF3D:
If you use the manila editor you can open and export the manila images as .png graphic files.
Export using save as, then open the .png in an image editor (eg photoshop) and make your changes. (or edit the red .png number files I posted above)
Adjusting hue/saturation is a quick way for novices to swap colours.
Save as .png, then replace the image in the manila editor.
Copy the _manila files that you changed to /windows
Title Bar Clock:
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\]
"ShowTitleBarClock"=1
"TBOpt"=1
you may need to create a new DWORD value for "TBOpt"
Opera in Task Manager:
Go to: HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
There delete Opera9.exe (now it will show in the task manager)
To close opera by pressing the X-button instead of minimizing it follow these steps:
Go to: HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
There, create a DWORD with the name Opera9.exe value "1"
To enable/disable web page optimization for mobile browsers in google and bing go to mobile site while in browser and click settings, then select/deselect option.
Disabling Push Internet:
"HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\InternetPush\EnablePushI nternet" value="0"
"HKLM\Software\HTC\PushInternetEngine\Enable" value="0"
"HKLM\Services\PushInternetEngine\Flags" value="4"-----This Last D-word must be created

HD2 Tweaks that work for Rhodium:
Improve Suggested T9 Dictionary With Custom Words
The Leo has a very useful hidden application in the Windows directory. You need to unhide hidden system and Rom files in order to find it. Find the file "eT9MyWords.exe" in the Windows directory and add a shortcut to this file in your Windows/Start Menu folder. (this might be worth it, not sure running some tests on it. Make sure u don't do what i do and copy xt9 on accident, bad things happen )
Enable LED Notification Setting in Sound and Notifications
If you want your LED to flash when you have a new message, missed call or voicemail.. well you can't as it is greyed out. However the following registry entries can be modified to enable them or use the cab at end of post. Reset after changes. Notifcation for Email sadly does not work
New Message:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877 D65B-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}]
"AvailableOptions"=dword: change to 15

Real Exit for HTc Album
By defualt, when you click on the ok/X button in HTC Album, the app minimizes and does not exit. Make the following change to really exit the app and thus save some program memory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbumv"ok_minim ize" = dword:0
How to Enable More Than 1 Hotmail Account in Email Tab
By default you can only check one hotmail account at a time. Here is how to enable more hotmail accounts.
1. Create a new email account.
2. In the email field write your email but replace the "@hotmail.com" with "@hotmail.con", this way the OS is not going to load Windows live messenger to sync your email.
3. Disable the option "Try to get e-mail settings..."
4. Select the email provider, in this case, Internet e-mail.
5. Complete the name and account display name
6. Incoming server: "pop3.live.com:995". Account type: POP3
7. Complete the form with your username and password. Note: the username is your full email address: "[email protected]" and not "yourusername".
8. Outgoing mail server: "smtp.live.com:25". Check the "outgoing server requires au...". Click on Advanced settings and check the "Require SSL..." for incoming ant outgoing e-mail.
9. Complete the rest of the setup.
10. Now, go to your email account and go to Tools > Options, once there, click on the email account you just created and click on "Edit account setup." NOTE: It might make you wait until it syncs 1 time.
11. Replace the "@hotmail.con" with the right one "@hotmail.com" and hit next 'till the end of the setup, and done.
Speed Up Music Album Loading on Reboot
After a reboot and you scroll to Music Tab, you have to wait quite a while for all the music files to be loaded. Now you can speed this up by making it load as soon as the phone starts and before reaching the tab. Go to your Windows folder and find the file "AudioManager_Eng.exe" Create a shortcut (.lnk file) of this file and put it in your Windows\StartUp folder. (Not sure if this is working or not, anybody have any experience with it?)

Renaming Android Start Screen Folders:
I wanted on my desktop. menu >> add >> folders. To rename them just open them and do a long press on the folder name. After that just drag and drop, I have found it is quicker to just open a folder instead of trying to navigate to different pages.
