Serious need for a working Internet Sharing cab!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

There are some Mad Genius in this forum, I am amazed at the things you come up with and how quickly you get it stable. I have searched, pleaded, and researched to get a working Internet Sharing cab.
I am listing the existing cabs by Duttythroy, Shamanix, and myself.
I already know a lot of roms exist with Internet Sharing include, but not to offend any of the existing rom makers, you guys are doing an exceptional job. But as of today December 10, 2007, Schap's 4.01 Lite is the most responsive and stable rom available for the Hermes. The only reason I have not stuck with it, is because I need Internet Sharing, if you ever use the Hermes on a 3G network as a modem you will be impressed with its constant rate, no need for a Network Card.
Thanks Shamanix for all the work you put in trying to get this to work. Duttythroy was almost there as well.
I will definitely have a nice donation for the person that can finally fix this issue.

If you are going to make a recommendation, please make the best recommendation. If I were going to do a Full Rom it would be Schap's 4.01 Full, if I wanted his latest I would go with 4.22. The reason for Schap's 4.01 Lite, I don't need nor use all the things in the Full Rom and I need the space to install the programs that I do use. In my and a lot of others opinion, Schap's 4.01 and Shamanix Grass 1.13 are the best roms currently available for the Hermes.

I've had a hell of a time trying to get Internet Sharing back into a ROM that removed it (honestly, why the **** would cooks do that?). Adding all the IS files and the registry entries from the package .rgu file isn't enough. Something else seems to be missing. Oh bother. I guess I'll check the dependencies myself...

Internet Sharing Cabs
Here are two cab files that may allow Internet Sharing to be installed on a device that it was not originally build with.
You'll need to run cab 1 first, reset, then run 2. If all is well and correct, you'll have internet sharing working.
If not - back to the drawing board.
Edit- back to the drawing board. I'll post the new cabs after I reflash my cell and do some more work.

Thank you very much matt!!!

Come on Matt!
If this thing works, I have an obligation to my word.
I just Pm dgates71 saying I would be willing to also donate to the Mad Genius who figures this out.
I'll give it a try and post back.
Thanks
Edit: Sorry Matt, Didn't work for me.
I have high hopes though.

I found this combination would allow it to work on my phone after installation - even though it's already in place. I'll go ahead and strip it out of my rom and keep at it. I know it's close.

exactly what are the errors? I'd need to know to figure out why it can't be installed as cab. Sorry, the cab was not tested as my rom already has IS cooked into it.

the cab installs just fine but when trying to make a connection via usb with IS it fails (connection error or smth)

The bubble says: "Cannot connect for unknown reason"

any progress? anyone?
I'm still digging around.
I know schaps will be including it in 4.30 Lite.
I still would like to get a working solution, cab or otherwise.

WiFi On/Off Link Fix (Work Around actually).

I stumbled across this in the Universal WM6 Forum.
I can't take credit for it, Szilamer is the creator of this neat little fix.
See the original thread here.
I simply modified his cab file to include the signed dll (so it will auto start on our Hermes) and added the settings for button size and location.
You need to install both Cab files and then restart your device.
This will be embedded into WMXL v0.30 but I didn't think it was right to make you guys wait once we got it working properly.
Enjoy....
Finally!!Great work, like always..
wiki updated.
(lol like a hawk!)
Hey, thanks for scouting this solution out for us, man!
Good luck tomorrow on the house transaction. Always lots of fun, those.

EDIT: Not just scouting it out but getting Szilamer to tweak it for the Hermes!
sweet! Does the job perfectly

The placement is by design (the link it covers does not currently work in WM6).
If you really want to move it then read the original thread, it explains what registry keys to change.

After install the 2 cabs, reset, having fun turning on & off wifi, I'm experiencing a weird problem. The phone felt into deep coma if I turned on Wifi then put it on standby using the power button, the only way I can turn it back on is do a reset. I remove the cab and the problem is gone. I tested it several times already. Anyone else have this problem?
btw, I'm using the LVSW Edition (2007-03-20).

Same ROM, exact same problem... soft reset only solution.
If not a problem on ROMs other than 320LVSW, maybe conflicts with new 'wireless manager' bubble?

I changed the xpos to 7 in the registry and it's now on the left side of the bubble.
So this was the reason for hermes freezing on LVSW (20-3-2007).
I removed cab.
I have thought that it was the reason of the rom.
Thank you, Passenger!
By the way...the best position for me was x=6.
Freezes
Hmm, that's strange.. It's working great with suspends on Universal.
Does everybody have this problem with freezes ?
(Even with WMXL version?)
Anyway there is one more method to switch on/off wifi .. (with the help of ossvcs.dll)

Karmba_a 6.2 EN [Personnal Modified Version !!!!]

i was told never to publish someone's rom after modified, but it is sick to do everything again from alpha and many testers involved only for a little improvement i can make to all Trinity Lovers.
Well , this rom is the one have tiny changes from Karmba_a 6.2(F*cking Great Rom it is), i believe Karmba_a did 99% of the job, i only did a very tiny job to modify it. if you like this rom, please THANK Karmba_a and ask him to make a donate link. :-D
Karmba_a 6.2 En is a great rom, touch flo works wonderfull, no obvious bug, including programes are just alright.
here is the update list made by me from Karmba_a 6.2 Rom
1, Build in the old-good-xip, E-mail accounts/passwords/connect/BT Parternership... won't lost anymore i believe. (thx ausdim)
PS: 14/12/2007 Tested in last 10 days, reset/drain battery/power cut/system hang and reset for hundreds of times, my Gmail account and GPRS connections are still there, so it is very sure that the problem is 100% fixed.
2, change the sounds,3rd screen, themes, to be wm6 original(also can be change to "black theme" in settings), fix the theme bug as well.
3, Update the connect wizard to 1.0.30(from bepe's rom),it works better than 1.0.29 after comparetion.
4, fix a Cpl's name(HSDPA Switch), relocate some shortcuts to the reasonable place.
5, no auto-clean at everytime reset(it clean too hard), and removed regedit and the little shutdown program(cause it doesn't really work)
6, many no important things, like: lowing down the GPS speeding Alarm volume(it was too too loud), Remove Big Startmenu(ugly in my opinion),del some rubbish reg, replace a better HTC Black Tsk, little reg tune in "TouchFlo System",. maybe one or two little changes i can't remember, but i did everything for reasons.
7, Made in China (does't mean it support Chinese, this is a English rom. Maybe it means this rom is cheap,no donate ha ha)
PS: i just find out i have a will to make the appearence of this rom(Karmba_a 6.2 En) close to HTC original one....
in case you like this rom and want to say thanks to me, Please make sure you have already thanked Karmba_a first!!
**Apoc reported A2DP have some bugs, dont know how bad it is and if it can be recovered. think before using this if you have A2DP handset.
Link Updating.....in 30 minutes.

this is the first link.
the RUU I tested in Vista, it should work under XP, if it dont, please replace rom into your own RUU.
I just saw Karmba_a finnal released, but i wont do on that anymore, no more spare weekend....

Please try to rename the files in this way: "****01.zip" to "****.zip.01" then most unzip software can automatically locate next files.
And sorry i dont think i'll cook my own rom although i really want to. Canon can produce good camare, but Panasonic can't, cause it need time to upgrate, debug and learn from feedback to make something perfect. This the best chefs in our forum already did. But right now i even dont have time to earn enough money to feed myself and for my tuition fee....For some reasons i'll lead a hard life in next few years. no time, no time.. :-(
I always use my limited spare time to do the most valuable thing. Cook a rom from start and debug for weeks, too huge job for me.

i am physically stay in Australia now, get the trinity from "3 Telecom" 4 month ago. i have been doing SmartPhone system for years, newly start working on PPC. i am old member in pdafans.com i guess you know there.
it is interesting to see that no one knows Trinity have GPS function in AUS....
i am uploading the rom to Rapidshare and 4shared.com at the same time, slower than i think. may take me more than 30 minutes.i dont believe you can get a fast speed from there, but you can use download tools( like Thunder, xunlei) to download the rom from 4shared.com(but rapidshare you can't), take it easy.
i have a question for you: seems Trinity have wifi, which is forbiden in China and illegel ,go against Chinese law, then where is your Trinity comes from?
Thanks a lot

This is the Chinese Support Cab! If you are in China and insist to use English version rom, this is the one you must have.
unzip this 4 files together , you 'll gonna get a cab file,
after install that, the mobile will get no trouble on Chinese software, Chinese website visiting, and Regional setting can be set to People Republic of Chine.
this one is carefully built by me, upgrade many times to get rid of all the bugs that other chinese support solutions use to have.

Almost always when I'll send (or receive) an MMS with audio (recorded), it freezes my P3600.
Any suggestion or patch??

Sorry mate debug is too hard for me cos i dont really have souces of this rom, and modify a "optimized rom" is very difficult. the only way to trace this problem is install other Arcsoft MMS programms and find out which one have this bug fixed. i dont have time to do this sorry. then compare the files from "fixd Cab" and the rom, replace the better files to solve. i can do a upgrate for u if you can try out the "fixed MMS" cab.
i know this is a good rom , thank you very much!

hey man
did you update the link also? or you didn't upload the updated ROM?
Amazing you're using it for weeks without issues, I tried it out yesterday, to begin with, A2DP is seriously ****ed up, even with the A2DP Fix, the player itself behaves oddly when an A2DP connection is made, the 'play head' skips back and forth( you can see the time counter go from 0:23 to 0:22 and then 0:23 again), seriously lagged/skipping audio, I was going to make a screencast of it but the device hard-reseted itself after It semi-froze and I power cycled it using the power button(5 secs).
Speedy nevertheless, the dialer is ugly and smart dialing options don't open as with the original Karmba_a.

i did not change the system of Karmba_a's rom, so most of the bugs should be kept.

2. sheeeng: thanks for posting your result on the forum and offering an alternative download link for people who can't access rapidshare, appriciated it
3. aeropic: glad to hear your 2003 french rom flew to english, i will try to see if i can get a french version for you if you still wish and when i got time
4. bowmoreinfrontofafire: glad to hear your bricked ipaq came alive again, enjoy it
5. LuteK II: hope you have sorted out all the mess between tommy_adsl's rom and mine
for those who haven't share your experience with others, please do so if you have time
for those who just joined the forum and got my instructions, please stay here as long as you can, this is a great place
for those who got my instructions before yesterday that has a page link to ebay:

i was shocked yesterday when i noticed that all the screenshots were updated from PDAViet's 18533 rom to, what a familiar look&feel!
i can't simply judge from that changes but, don't think i am a jerk, here were the actions i took:
1. i killed the download link
2. i posted my ebay item, sell it for 1.99
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250232653715
i am not going to make a fortune of that, actualy i pull out of my own pocket to cover all the fees in order to list it. i just hate thieves.
for those who still have problem upgrading your ipaq, email me and i will try to help out
for those who are unlucky and can't get the file before i shut it down, please view my ebay item, if you like, it costs you only 2 bulks.
for those who successfully upgraded, i appreciate it if you keep your copy for your personally use only
and again my thanks go to all and this is a great community!

Hi Guys,
Thanks to this forum and I have learnt lots of stuff. After taking knowledges from people on this site and a few days hard work, I think it's time for me to give something back to the community. This is my first contribution so I hope some of you will like my work.
Attached is the link to the WM6 ROM update I created for iPAQ HX2000 PDAs. I have my two hx2495b upgraded and everything works great: outlook, office, windows live, wireless, bluetooth, ... you name it, no power drain problem, no soft reset, fast, reliable, I really love my work.
I don't have any other hx2000 series model to try but I certainly confident that it will work with all models in the series. Here are some screen shots FYI.
Please don't flash your ROM using the file downloaded directly, you could brick your device and I am not responsible for that.
Please message me and I will send you detail instructions on how to install it. I will honor every single request. please allow at least 1 min, at most a day to get my response.
!!!WARNING!!! if you are a junior member and this is your first time flashing your rom, please let me know and I will give you instructions as more detailed as possible.
Also please do not waste other people's time by pm them and asking for the instructions. instead, you can use your time walking through this and other threats and topics. you really can learn lot of stuff here, you can transform yourself from an always "eating out" person to a DIY cooking chef like me.
So far we have quite a few people successfully flash their rom, the devices range from low end 2110 to high end 2790, the original rom versions include 2003 to 6. this is very encouraging.
There do have some hiccups though, here are my suggestions:
1. if you see a symptom where when you close a program and you see some "artifacts" on the Today screen, this most likely is because that when the rom was cooked, the registry settings for today's items were not cleaned up, so to quickly fix this just enable/disable some items or reorder them through today's setting
2. if you successfully flashed the rom but your device doesn't start, simply remove your CF card and reboot again.
hope you who successfully upgraded your rom will share some experience here.
Enjoy it!

After looking at it I don't think my guess is correct. It is a smaller than my Hermes 6.1 .nbf.
As soon as we hear from samz on how to install it I will give it a go on my 2410. I have WM6.0 on it now and I am getting some random battery drainage that hopefully this rom will take care of.
So we are waiting for Samz's instruction....
It appears that this is some sort of self extracting file. When trying to open with WinRar it ask for password...I say this is little fishy to me.
Flashing right now, will let you all know how it goes
Upgraded, flash went well. Including some screenies..
Good job samz, a very nice and flawless flash!
Feels nice and fast. I will play around with it for a few days and see if I find anything.
Might be time for me to pony up and buy a newer PDA though. It's a bummer that I only have ~12 megs of storage on the PDA but that has been about the same each upgrade since WM5.
Is the HP ProtectTools by Credant still available?

Might be time for me to pony up and buy a newer PDA though. It's a bummer that I only have ~12 megs of storage on the PDA but that has been about the same each upgrade since WM5.

asbestos,
I'm thrilled that the 6.1 ROM is finally fixed & running!
Thanks to samz & all predecessors!
Am curious to know if the HP ProtectTools by Credant is still available in this ROM or as a separate installable cab file?
I need this application as a requirement for my work.
Also, it would be helpful to list what other 3rd party apps are included in this ROM.
Many users have been requesting for a 'lite' version of the ROM to maximize ROM space for persistent storage.
Thanks!

It appears that this is some sort of self extracting file. When trying to open with WinRar it ask for password...I say this is little fishy to me.

Hp protect is there and it works just fine. This is a pretty light ROM. It looks like samz replaced the usual calendar with 1-cacl lite, there is the normal wm5 explorer (which I replaced right off).
There is no java support. In fact all of the usual jre's do not work as far as I know on the wm5/wm6/wm6.1 other than IBM's J9 (cab included in this post).
Here is the base rom programs:
Games:
Bubble maker
Solitaire
Apps:
Activesync
1-calc lite
File Explorer
iTask
Notes
Pictures & Videos
Search
Task Manager
Tasks
Windows Media
I do not have a "B" revision device. If you do, you most likely have much more rom storage than I do. I started off with about 14 megs which has been pretty much the standard since the old school WM5 update years ago.
I did not need to shuffle ROM's around to do this update. It is probably the easiest upgrade I have ever done on this device other than the OEM releases.
If you want to update to it just follow the directions and PM samz for the directions.
Again, thanks samz for a great ROM. I will be testing it today with my usual routine and see how it goes!

Sorry, should have included that also!
Yes, the contacts work and yes the messaging works too. I did not set up my exchange server yet or the IMAP but the POP3 works just fine.

Request Custom made ROMs here (it's what YOU want)All current requesters please read!

First of all, HUGE thanks to psuarmy, bilbobrian, and bepe (they know why). Last year, in my first period class (basketball), somebody decided to jack my 8525 and took off with it which upset me a lot. Well, i finally got an 8525 so i can cook for it. I've spent quite some time getting it all ready and it's finally good to go.
I offered this same service for the Kaiser and a lot of people seemed to like it so i thought i'd bring it here. It'll bring a lot more load on me, but i'm on summer vacation until the 25th and then school starts (will continue to do this even when i have school hopefully).
Most chefs tend to cook what the majority of the people like including myself. When i cooked my first ROM and asked people for feedback/suggestions, i did get a few programs that everybody liked but there were many suggestions of programs that each different user liked. So i could have cooked Livcast in which Joe wanted, but Mary wouldn't use it at all; that kind of thing
I couldn't get anybody to cook what i wanted so i did it myself So i'm opening up this thread for ANYBODY who has a request to cook a ROM which can include ANY program (or rather anything they want). I will cook commercial programs, but will NOT include any license/registration key; that's up to you to get. The format should look something like this:
Programs: Thousands of these.
Games: Thousands of these to
Version: Here you can tell me whether you want a cube version, non-cube version, diamond build, etc.
Other: Whatever else you'd like.
Preferred Upload Host: Have problems with RS? No problem, just tell me the site and i'll upload it there. I can also upload to Jannaa's blogspot thanks to her generosity!
You can help aplace4u.biz to stay free.
Chances are that I probably have access to the programs you want, so i'll make them to an OEM if i don't already have them.
I'm on summer vacation so I have quite some time and i'd like to devote it in helping out (not just here but anywhere). If this doesn't go so well, i'll just ask a mod to delete the thread.
This is 100% FREE and i'd like to help as much as I can, but if you can/are able to, i have PAYPAL @ ksallstar2013 at yahoo.
Thanks to all the following supporters:

Ooo! Like the sound of this.
Programs: Samsung time, iContact, Windows live, office, pocket rar, softkey changer, pocketIRC, Schaps advanced config, Oxios Memory, phm regedit, and finaly pbar.
If you dont have any of these, just ask and ill post them up.
Games: just the default ones will do
Other: button 5 fix, and com manager toggle vibrate fix. As clean as you can, maybe take out error reporting, managed programs, and clear storage as well as the normal stuff like welcome centre.
I would like HTC connection wizard in there as well.
10 button black comm manager, and this dialler.
Version: I dont mind to much, I dont use anything like the Cube, just the newest you have. (WM6.1 of cause) I see build 20273 around, maybe newer if you have it
If i missed anything, just say and ill get right back to you!
New chef???
Or you just came back from the future? I have a perfect ROM so far, for what I need, let's see if someone else can come up with some ideas.

That's why I said he came from the 'future' as he's been doing ROMs for the kaiser. I think I have also picked my next ROM for the kaiser, but will see what's on offer here
Lol, now i know what you mean. Well if you read the first few sentences of the post, i had an 8525 before my Tilt. Then some loser jacked it from me when i was dressing out after my practice
I've done over 40 ROMs for the Kaiser (look at the thread or a picture here) It's been great assisting people. Can get extremely stressful, however the outcome is well worth it when people like it
@ veyka, i have everything you said except oxios and pbar; will look into getting those
You should check up for Abusalza and Starbase64 4shared directories on their signatures. They have plenty of cabs ...

Exactly...with 2G dialer, netcf 3.5, schaps config v2.1, task manager v3.1, 6mb PP, no splashs...

Woopss CF3.5 for me as well, im always forgetting something

This thread will tell you which ROM to choose.

HAHA that got your attention huh?
I just thought I'd start a thread for people who might be considering upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1. You should post why you like a certain rom, which features you like, and what could be better.
Since (and I am pretty sure on this) that all of the builds are based on "chunks" of the OS taken from other phone's distributions, there isn't a "hermes specific" guide to improvements that these newer OSs give the user.
So if you feel like it, post away. Hopefully if anything, this will serve as a basis for which rom to choose.
Please don't spam the thread with posts agreeing with other users. I didn't intend for this thread to be a discussion. Try not to post based off other posts, and please
DON'T QUOTE ANYONE!
This means if someone says "I like schaps because its purple and neat looking", don't post "YA IT SURE IS". Just post AGAIN stating that it is purple, as well as what else you like about it.
Reserved for future use
ROM: CRCs STABLE (v11.2; 17-Jul)
This is a great rom to use. Battery life is excellent, and my phone never hangs / crashes. (hence the stable). I like that it accepts dialer customizations (3G dialer from the kaiser for instance) without making you go through a graphic nightmare trying to get it to work.
I *have* noticed some WIFI issues however... Not being able to connect to networks that I KNOW are open. It will say you are connected, however you won't be able to transfer. This however is only a very rarely encountered issue, and usually at WIFI hotspots in restaurants and hotels. It ALWAYS works on my home network.
Rom seems on par with most when speed is considered. It is not either slow, nor exremely fast. Quick enough to do most any task with less than a 1 second wait.
I would definately recommend this rom for use by anyone who is considering their first upgrade, or anyone who wants a very useable rom with a good basic set of programs and tools.
Thank you for bringing this up
Personally, I would say CRCinAU's roms have been the benchmark for other chefs to 'match' or 'better'
These days abusalza is that chef. Again these are my personal opinion, you really NEED TO FLASH ALL THE ROMS, to find what you like and what you don't.
No one can tell me what I will like and what I won't like, as it is down to preference.
So, in other words, .... this thread is pretty useless
in here is a link to rom benchmarks (great job be veyka) to assist U:
>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Why did you post that? tell me, is there anywhere out there where there is a "consumer reports" type of ROM review?
Rom choice is.. very much what you like.
I can tell you from exp, and I have flashed almost every rom here, as im sure many other people can, that its the ONLY way to know what to use.
There isnt a bad rom, just one that isnt right for you.
since joining this community, i have flashed many roms. I have flashed almost every release during that time, it would exceed 100 roms.
now, what i have noticed is that it doesnt matter which rom i chose, i end up putting the applications on it which i like. Some of the roms have these and others do not. so really, find what it is you like, get the cabs for it, and almost all roms are the same.
there is the stability and speed of roms which is different. but with a 400mhz processor, the speed is barely noticeable unless you change the pagepool.
There is one rom that i always return to when i am away for a while, being Berds 4.31 SS
I find there is a huge difference in speed and battery drain between different WM6.1 roms.
I would personally hold up CRC and PDAcorner as the best two out there atm.
(main difference is if you like your rom vanilla or not)

Hmm hardly a 'consumer' report, as most of them don't donate, may be you should call it 'free loaders report'

btw, on that note. WM6 is WM6, whatever device its on, each rom comes with diffrent stuff cooked in..
Same goes for 6.1.
Its also quite easy to tell if the roms your cup of tea from the thread and screenshots, eg, does it look loaded, lite, comes with HTC home ect!

well dude,
I hate to send people on wild goose chases.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415198 has a rollup on very useful stuff.
bepe's kitchen is in there download and read the entire thing.
download every hermes kitchen you can find and just start messing with stuff.. RGU's are all registry entries. modify and open xml's to see what they do. and just start poking around, eventually (3 months) you'll get a working almost stable build! Every change you make be sure to note it incase you need to go back and correct.. Also note what you did to fix stuff.
Then when you have questions PM and i'll try and help as much as i can but i'm still new.
Or search and bug the crap out of people. at least thats how i did it.
Also the Hypercore kitchen has a good manual with it.. On porting, the noob way for porting is easyportoven, otherwise search xip and sys porting and there is a nice thread on it..
The rest is just trial and error.
