##778 hacks shared - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Anyone care to share any usefull hacks after one has obtained their msl?

##778# Hacks
I can't take credit for these, but they work...
Shorten time/ number of rings to answer
Credit to Elkay
Thread
Here is a tip from the 6700 forum that works on the Touch (credit to Elkay in the 6700 forum). You may have noticed that when someone calls you it may take several rings on their end before the Touch begins to ring. The reason for this delay is the “slot cycle index,” or how often your Touch polls the towers for an incoming call. Default appears to be about 5 seconds—way to long. Of course, as always, there is a compromise to be made—the more often it polls the tower, the more power it uses. Anyway here is the hack:
To do this, you will need your MSL number, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you.
1) Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST).
2) You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone.
3) From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2 (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).

Force EV-DO/1X, quicker ring response
Same thread
Here is another tip from the same 6700 post by Elkay.
1) Follow steps 1 through 3 in the Shorten time/ number of rings to answer tip:
Also on this page is your preferred operation mode. The Default is Automatic, which is the best available mode (EV that will roll back to 1X when EV is unavailable). There are times when you might be in a fringe area and your mode may cycle frequently and this can seriously drain your battery. Setting this to HDR will force EV-DO only if you demand an EV-DO connection. Changing this setting to CDMA Only will force the phone to ignore an EV-DO tower and maintain only a 1xRTT connection.

automatic is best under most circumsatnces.

Automatic works better
i tried the other settings, for some reason, when i call myself on LAN phone, it goes straight to voicemail

Anyone else have a problem when entering the ##778# on the phone dialer? I have been getting random errors (67 and 1012) so i called sprint yesterday to try and resolve them. I was told to type in ##3282# (i think) to enter a service menu. It does nothing.
I press the green talk button to bring up the dialer, type ##778# and nothing hapens. If i press the green talk button again, it attempts to dial ##778#. Anyone care to give me a heads up on something stupid i am missing here? Thanks.

i hit ##778# and wait like 1 or 2 secs and the screen changes
do not any buttons ... dont need to call out, just ##778# and let it sit for 1 sec

Tried waiting....nothing. Called tech support, they were baffled, suggested hard reset. *sigh
Time to pull everything off and reset.

I had this problem once. Make sure you don't have some sort of custom dialing skin on. These won't let you access special ## codes. Didn't notice that untill l couldn't get a phone activated with a CSR and figured that was the problem.

actually different dialers as well as different radios wont allow the codes to work right. i always changes the things i need first and then load the goodies on there.

Ill try that. Anything to avoid a hard reset. I have so many little BS apps on this damn thing. Probably good to clean it up anyways.

Got it fixed. I removed a bunch of programs i had installed. Dont remember which one actually did it, but i had a bunch of UI tweak programs installed. Thanks for the help guys.

I had the same problem until I found this thread. After removing "EquinoXe Wizard reTOUCHED Dialer" and soft-rebooting, it worked.

## # & error code
or 91 , 94, 71, 1012 errors are Registration/Provisioning errors. You have to contact tech support 1 800 639 6111 to have them re-provision your services. More than likely your PRL check sum ,User name, HA Shared Secret (should always be the word "secret") or your AAA Shared secret (randomly generated by Sprint) is invailid. In any case, they would have to reset on their end.
As far as the ##data# if you dont really know what your changing, I'd do some research first

OK, maybe I am the last one to know this but how do I find my MSL code on the Bell Mobility Touch?

You can get the MSL by using a program called GetSPC.
There is a link further down in this post:
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151852

Do be careful when forcing your phone to use EVDO only -- you won't be able to make/receive any calls or SMS as both of those services require the use of 1xRTT.

is there a way to debrand the sprint htc touch? i'm using it outside the USA!!

"Unlock"?? You're referring to a CDMA Touch, right (which is why you're in the Vogue forum)? I don't think you can unlock these. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the only carriers using CDMA are Sprint and Verizon (in US). If you wanted to use this with a GSM carrier (ATT, T-Mo) you wouldn't be able to regardless of what you do to the phone.
If you are referring to the MSL number, please read the post that you, yourself, quoted.

Whats the benefit of having you MSL # for the EVO

Noob here so Im just wanted to see what the benefit of having the MSL number for the EVO is?
Basically it is a password for several "hidden" settings for the phone.
(ie ##DATA#)
I think you can use the MSL to roam off verizon towers instead of sprint and alter settings in the phone. I'm assuming settings that involve how your phone communicates with the Sprint network.
You can adjust several settings that unless you know what you are doing, you shouldn't mess with. Sometimes there is a need, but most of the time there isn't.
For the Hero, there was a ring delay and with the MSL you could lower the time that the phone checked for a call, lowering or removing the delay. For the EVO, I think you can get it to roam on Verizon towers as said above, but not sure that is such a good thing.
If you have it, keep it because you may need it, if not, it's probably never going to be needed. If you do need it and don't have it, just call Sprint tech support and ask for it. Usually they give it out without a problem.
Thanks for the feed back fellas! I have my MSL number and just didnt know what to do with it thats all. I will probably just tuck it away and forget about it.
Put it on a post it note under the battery.

Go to Phone and Dial ##3282#
Choose Edit Mode
Enter MSL
Change Home Orig., and Roam Orig. to EVRC-B
Hit Menu and Commit Changes
This is the main thing I have seen people use there MSL to change. Apparently the signal is stronger with B. You are normaly getting signal from A. The other thing if I recall correctly is that all the A towers are also equiped with B equipment so even B is the better choice? Sorry its been a month since I did this mod if you search over at the PPCGeeks forum I know you will find it in the tips thread that is stickied at the top.

Can't activate phone after applying 2.2 update.zip

I have S-off, I went from the .0 software version to .2 software version and then applied the 2.2 update.zip file through stock recovery (I unrooted). After applying the 2.2 zip, my phone is asking me to activate and it is unsuccessful every time and routes me to Verizon customer service. They are closed right now, but I'm planning on calling tomorrow morning if all else fails. Anybody know a fix and, if not, should I be worried about my phone not activating because I wasn't meant to get 2.2 yet?
Hi.
After applying the ota over the update.zip i had the same issue i end up just calling them and saying i had gotten it "ota" and they told me to do the following to manually activate it.
dial ##778 and hit send then press edit mode
the password is 000000

go under nam settings and make sure
Mobile directory number is your 10 digit number no spaces
the min1 is you seven digit number no spaces
the min2 is your 3 digit area code

hit the back arrow then go to homesid/home nid this is where it gets tricky because this is the cell towers in you local area
In northeast ohio my home sid is 54 and the nid is 65535 which i believe is network standard for verizon but not 100% percent sure.
You may be able to google for this or find it in another verizon phone from a friend of family member in the area. If this is to much just call verizon explain it won't activate they will run you through all these steps and tell you the proper one.
Next you need to backout again
Verizon didn't tell me this step but with out it data doesn't work
Go to m.ip default profile and change nai to your 10 [email protected]
Click to collapse
When you are done click menu button on phone then commit Modifications
Click to collapse
This will get the basic functionality of you phone working there are still some settings in there that a *228 activation would change that i didn't but i haven't noticed any lost functionality or billing issues yet.
I tried changing my Min1 as it wasn't set to my phones number. After about 3 to 4 days I could not make any calls without being transferred to an operator.
As soon as I changed it back I was able to make calls again.
I do not recommend changing this field unless the Verizon techs tell you to do so..
Additional Information:
After doing some google searching I've found that it is completely normal for your MSID number to be different than your phone number. In this case the Droid incredible uses the MIN1 and MIN2 to fill in the MSID number.
So again I say do not edit these fields unless told to do so by your carrier as they must give you the correct information or your phone will not be able to make or receive calls.

EVO Up on alltel, little help?

So, Got a sprint EVO for cheap. Sprint had the ESN flagged on sprint network because the owner of the phone's account hasn't been paid. Sold the phone to me, I restored it to factory default, running latest stock 2.2.
Steps taken to get to where I am now:
Used CDMA workshop (licensed 3.5.5) to read the SPC code, rewrote the spc code to 000000. I put an Alltel PRL file on the sd card, same one as my mother's Alltel Hero. Rooted the phone using revoked windows app, replaced the EPST.apk with the older version to allow ##775# (prl change), applied my PRL. Activated the phone on alltel, no problem at all getting it activated.
Call text working great... THEN... using CDMA Workshop, in the EVDO tab (similar function in QPST would be the PPP tab) and entered the HDR user name/pass, in alltel's case, UM is [email protected]/alltel and AN is [email protected]/HEXESN. Set under M.IP to have Simple IP only (read that this will fix the "data call failure" errors) Set profile 0 as active and changed the values to what looks to be the same from the Alltel Hero of my mothers only with my cell number in the fields. Set all nam values such as channels, MCC, etc.. correct, flashed. I then edited the telephony.db to alltel's MMS settings.
Phone's current state, what works, what doesnt..
3G is working great, MMS works perfectly, calling is perfect, SMS is perfect...
1X doesn't work AT ALL:
if I enter an area i KNOW 3G doesn't exist, it doesnt switch to 1X like my eris that i programmed to alltel did, just drops data completely if there's no 3G...
I don't seem to get the Data Call Failure message much at all up until I try to run the "wireless tether" app, it pops up like CRAZY and 3G disconnects every time it pops up.
Phone says I'm roaming constantly, I know I have the latest smartphone PRL for my area and MCC codes etc in the nam are set EXACT to my mothers htc alltel hero and hers doesnt report roaming at all... what gives??? Maybe this is the cause of all my problems...
##DEBUG# screen > EVDO, at the bottom, says AUTHENTICATED and I have an IP address, stays solid like that in a 3g area.
Anyone like to help me out? What values do I may have incorrect for 1X to entirely not work at all but 3G works just fine??.. Being that 1X doesnt work, it seems to cause issues sometimes initializing a connection because it seems like 3G goes dormant/sleep after a while and maybe relies on 1X to be connected to keep a constant connection to the network. And.. this whole Data call failure thing is just obnoxious? Anyone truly find the result to this? Obviously has something to do with sprint, 4G is turned off, all the sprint .APK's are removed.
Being that the phone still has sprint options in Mobile Network Settings such as "Roaming" "Data roaming" etc.. could this be causing problems? How do I go about removing ALL of sprints network options on this phone???
thanks a whole lot... excited to see this phone working on the alltel network, would like to press on and get it working flawlessly.
Hey Steve I remember you from over at HoFo. Your Eris info helped me out getting some of my own issues worked out. I am still interested in what work you did to get your mms working in and out. I looked at the telephony.db once but didn't place a lot of effort in to it. So as it stands I get incoming but unable to send mms. So any insight from you would be greatly appreciated. But I will try and see if I can help you with what you have going on.
First I found that programming the Evo was more of a pain than when I did the HTC DInc on Alltel. In my area PRL 31005 is pushed to Alltel smart phones. It is the same PRL I used on the DInc with no issues. The Evo would insist that I was roaming with it. I switched to a non-divested PRL(30057) and haven't had an issue since. Google "answerman prl" for the download for Alltel PRLs. I have rocked with that PRL for over 3 months now. My roaming option is set for automatic in the mobile network settings and the only other thing I have checked there is data roaming, which I can disable with no problem.
Now if you go back to your HoFo thread I wrote that when I got the Evo I only had 1X data. It wasn't until after I went back over your thread and some other stuff that I managed to get 3G working. I used CDMA workshop(3.6.0 Licenced) And wrote the same things as you did. Only I have Mobile + Simple IP set and profile 1. Now I will say this. First I tried to set to profile 0 but when going into ##DATA#, the phone would always insist it wanted to use profile 1 even after having previously writing the data. So I created another profile in CDMA workshop, duplicated the data I had for 0 and made 1 active instead of 0. I had also previously never had issues with the "Data call failure" until the past month or two. After I rooted and moved from the stock rom I used CM6 for a good while even flashing nightlies and never had a problem. I only moved back to a Sense based rom when I was trying to troubleshoot an issue where my data would disconnect and would not re-establish for several minutes or until after a reboot. I was using juice defender at the time and incidently this was also around the time I updated my radio/PRI etc. So when I went to a random Sense rom this error message threw me off and I was sure something was wrong with the phone. But I have seen plenty of posts about it so idk. I run Myn's Warm 2.2 now. On rls1 I would get the DCF's frequently but not so much on rls 2, maybe once in a blue moon. I don't use juice defender anymore and I have also stopped using Set CPU as it conflicts with my current kernel anyway. *shrug* So no idea what truely makes the phone happy and not give me that error as much.
Hope this helps you.
Wow, that was a MESSAGE.
Thanks a whole lot for that.
For MMS:
When I use anycut to access the APN's on my Evo it shows it shows no apn's at all. I didn't add any and left it alone. Now...
I have attached the telephony.db file I edited with Root Explorer and SQL Lite editor. If you open the file in the editor, you'll see what I changed... It was simply an APN specifically for MMS use, changed it to alltel's values and.. BAM, perfect MMS.
Path:
/data/data/com.android./providers/telephony/databases/
Permissions are to be set to
USER: READ CHECKED - WRITE CHECKED
GROUP: READ CHECKED - WRITE CHECKED
No other's checked.
After replacing the telephony.db file, no reboot required, you should be set to send and receive MMS without any issues at all. If it fails, restart the phone or force quit messages and relaunch.
I will try that PRL you mentioned above, I am also on 31005... reports as the same PRL on my mother's alltel hero though, hmm.. doesn't make sense of why my phone still says I'm roaming.
I will also play with cloning profile 0 and profile 1 and switch back to sim+mobile IP mode...
Thread moved to Q&A.
Thanks I will give this a roll when I get home this evening. I hope that some of what I've given you will be helpful. I've been enjoying the phone and I will enjoy it even more I know once I get the MMS thing cleared up. Keep me up to date on what's going on.
Played with everything, did exactly as you said, still no 1X, if I go to ##data and tell it to use CDMA only (turn EVDO off), it just goes to no data at all while my Eris would just stick to 1x in that mode.
odd.
Can someone explain WHAT it is that allows a handset to receive the HA/AAA shared keys when a *228 activation is requested?
We all know that taking for example a Sprint phone and applying an alltel PRL to the radio ... that when activating it WILL NOT receive the HA/AAA keys for data...
Is it the AKEY ? Is it something else in the memory?
An old PPC6800 I have that was SPRINT.. it was a bugger getting data to work, just would NOT receive the HA/AAA keys or anything when *228ing the phone, as soon as I applied the Alltel Rom with the Alltel NV items, it activated without an issue and received all the correct NV items for data and all, worked perfect. How can we do this with the latest smartphone?...
Is it possible I can clone the NV items from my mother's HTC Alltel Hero and write them to my sprint Evo ?
What do you guys think?
Steve check your PM
I never had to do this myself so don't know how applicable it is.
I installed the file and assigned the permissions, now app just blows up when I try to send a pic msg. Any ideas?
STRANGE !
What messaging app are you using?
I am running stock latest OTA... So all the stock apps are installed, minus all the sprint stuff and a few other htc pre-loaded software I have taken out with root explorer.
Should be working perfectly. I have no idea what the deal is.
Did you go to Messages>menu>settings>connection settings and see if the values have changed?
I use Chomp SMS but it did the same with the native messaging app as well.
That's really strange. MMS still online and working flawlessly for me on alltel.
Phone still says I'm roaming though. Mother's HTC Alltel Hero in the same town is not roaming, both flashed with the same PRL and the NAM info looks identical in cdma workshop.
You sure your APN lists are empty? Mine is, no APN's at all in the APN viewer.

[Q] About to throw this damn thing against a wall... any help welcome.

To start, I AM searching and trying to find any and all information that could possibly help me out.
I rooted using unrevoked. Used Calk's rom, switched to netarchy-toastmod-4.3.1-cfs-havs-nosbc-universal-signed, made several nandroid backups (one including the RSA keys, although the backup made when using unrevoked made one of the RSA keys also), tried Ava-Froyo, went back to Calk's. Also tried the PRL hack.
Im new to all this but am fairly technically inclined and understand, so I think, these processes. Of course Im still learning obviously...
....cause somewhere along the line I lost the ability to get incoming calls !!!!!!!
I can still make calls (my number comes up on caller ID correct), send texts, use the net, email, and use wifi tether.
When i make a call it triggers something cause all my texts, mail, and voicemails come streaming in all at once.??????
Im at my wits end, and probably will be up all night trying to fix it.
I found some values in my advanced settings after dialing ##3282# that were different and wonder if thats the problem.
if someone will post me their info from the ##3282# screens (off course omit your phone number under advanced) that would be awesome !!!
S is still showing off.
I have gone back to:
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.40_release_140444_signed
and then:
RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459
and then the over the air update to 2.2
still not working....
I really dont want to go to the friggin Sprint store....
And any other advice where to steer my searching and efforts would be greatly appreciated !!!!!

didnt know about the commit changes thing, i was wondering why nothing changed when i edited them.

i can change it, commit the change, update profile and everything will be fine and work (get calls).
but then when i reboot it will switch back !!!!
i havent installed, to my knowledge, any rogue crap.
what in the blazes could be causing this???
Are you changing it in ##3282#, or in the network settings that evio 2 1.80 gives access to?
Try changing in network settings, not in ##3282#.
Also, if you want, there is an option in ##3282# to completely wipe the settings. I can't remember which heading it's under, but you need to hit menu and it'll say something like reset settings, or reset something.
I had a simular issue. Unroot the phone flash the ruu then OTA then call sprint tech suppeort and ask them hard resset your phone. It helped me. should help you to. here is how 2 unroot

Seems like an awful lot of work to fix this.. I'd exhaust other possibilities before going through all this trouble.
My phone is done. My phone wouldn't call or text earlier so i did a reset on the ##768# screen or whatever so it would run hands free activation again. It failed out. Erased all of my data from the epst screen. Can anyone help? Phone will not connect to data

Did you happen to have your number ported over from another carrier when you got your Evo?
Yes, it was ported. But the number listed in there wasnt the old number. Anyway my phone has been working now, with that old number in it...so...
The only thing is that when on data network it show 'EvDo' all the time, never '3G'. Is this a problem? I have been tring to read up on it and it seems fine, but everyone else's Evo's here seem to show 3G.
Im still trying to locate the original settings so I can compare exactly what I see when I do the ##3282#.
Thanks again for you help!

CDMA not working

I'm afraid my CDMA radio is broken. (At home my LTE signal isn't strong enough.)
I only used it half a day before sending my Verizon HTC One to Colorodo for S-OFF. The signal then seemed fine. I didn't set it up until i got a case for it yesterday. First i installed the GPE by newtoroot (because it was smallest to download) and everything seemed fine but i honestly don't remember, then installed the other 2 custom roms both only giving me LTE only.
Things i've tired so far that haven't worked:
1. I restored my nandroid of the Stock, but got the same thing.
2. I've tried all the custom roms but still can't get CDMA to connect.
3. I tried the RUU, (since a few parts of it are corrupt, i had to leave out system and recovery) then flashed a custom rom
4. I changed some settings in the ##778# menu (copying my Inc 4g)
5. I've installed LTE on off to easily change radio options.
6. I've tried a different sim from another verizon smart phone line
I've also tried combinations of those, but still have not gotten my CDMA to connect.
Does anyone have any other ideas for me?
Also, if someone doesn't mind giving me their settings in the EPST menu (##778# then edit mode) for CDMA Settings, and Modem Settings, I'd appreciate it.
Here's the CDMA and Modem info from my EPST menu. I'm not rooted or S-OFF though so I'm not sure if there will be a difference.
CDMA:
A-Sys Primary: 283
B-Sys Primary: 384
A-Sys Secondary: 691
B-Sys Secondary: 777
MOB_TERM_FOR_HOME: Enable
MOB_TERM_FOR_SID: Enable
MOB_TERM_FOR_NID: Enable
EVRC Enabled: Enable
Home Page: EVRC
Home Orig: EVRC
Roam Orig: EVRC
MODEM:
Slot Cycle Index: 2
Preferred Serving System: Automatic
Preferred Mode: Automatic
HDR Hybrid Preferred: Enable
Clear All MRU Entry: No
Rev. A: eHRPD
1X Diversity: Disable
Good luck! :good:
ok, now i'm getting 3g (CDMA) so i feel like it might not be a broken radio, but it does tell me that i'm roaming and when i make a call I get verizon wanting me to enter a credit card. When i switch to 4g it doesn't tell me that i'm roaming but when I make a call then it immediately disconnects and data works fine (I think verizon still uses CDMA for voice).
I would much appreciate another favor if someone doesn't mind giving me their settings in the EPST menu (##778# then edit mode) for Home SID/ NID

#1 is 26392/65535
all the rest are 0/0
hope this helps.
My Home SID/NID #1 says 73/65535
I'm thinking that and the A-Sys/B-Sys numbers are by region which might be why your phone thinks you're roaming.

Mine said 2004/65535
but that doesn't seem to help anyway.
What did help was changing my prl to an older version, but i'm still not entirely sure what happened and why my phone messed up like it did.
I was able to fixed my problem with the newest decripted ruu from zarboz found here
once i ruu'ed i turned off fast boot in power settings and i turned on gps then i did 2 factory resets. 1 from the rom and 1 from the bootloader.
edit. sorry if i duplicated post in other threads, i just hope when someone else has the problem then it's easy to find and fix.
