Radio Flash - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

I had seen a 3.17 or 3.27 (mogul/titan) radio flash posted here about a week ago. It was confirmed as not working since it would boot saying "NO RADIO", but I have since heard reports of those phones still getting service, and I'd like to see if it enables RevA speeds on the Vogue.
The exe posted in the titan forum won't flash onto a Vogue directly because the Device ID's don't match. Thanks.

my understanding was that the device wont operate at all with this radio until you guys get a new SPL. i know imcokeman soft-booted it. where are you seeing reports that devices are working and have service?

JD over at PPCGeeks used it on his device, and although it boots saying NO RADIO, he still gets phone/data service. I'd just like to flash it and do a couple bandwidth tests.

I came back.
It is returning commemoration.
WM6.1 CLIMAX_a
Its Japanese ROM!!
Details will be written here tomorrow.!!
It has already opened it to the public on the site in Japan on which I am
acting.

We've been waiting! Good to see you back.
Downloading now. I needed something to do while my wife goes shopping, anyway!!
I can't configure an exchange server, it just blinks and doesn't go anywhere when I click on the set up server link. I'll have to wait for the next version...
To all who live in Japan and hope to use this to access MMS via the softbank network:
MMSLITE (both builds) do not work in this rom. So if you need MMS lite, best to stay with 6.0 for the time being until this problem is solved.
I'm loosing faith in this unlocking methodology in JAPAN...PLS HELP
I'm starting to think there is no solution I have unlocked and uploaded and reloaded and re-unlocked, etc but still the same problem...My phone can not access the cellular network. I did a manual search and my phone does not acknowledge the JP Softbank network. I have put different kinds of ROM's and OS upgrades, etc, but still no success. I'm starting to think that these great unlocked PDA's only work in Europe and North America and not in JAPAN.
I have seen several other threads with others having the same problem so I am going to try to ask this question in several different threads.
I have no errors and everything works fine in the process, just like everybody says it does, but still nothing for acquiring a signal. It just either shows an exclamation point or searching dots. I have compared the various carrier options on my phone to other Softbank phones and everything is the same networks except acknowledging the Softbank network.
I'm praying there is some smart person out there who can figure this out...PLEASE...PRETTY PLEASE...

Sounds like a radio problem. Tried flashing to a different radio? See the Wiki for instructions. After upgrading to a new rom you should still be able to get a cell signal.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349461
tried it and doesnt work...
I put several different radio upgrades and nothing...still can never acquire a signal...Please Help! What do I need to do in Japan.

You are getting no signal at all? Can't make calls? I have flashed many roms and always have a signal after flashing. It unfortunately sounds like your phone has a serious problem. I would send it off to get repaired.

I'm a compulsive flasher but I have never been unable to access the network straight after a ROM flash. What radio do you have now? Probably the only way you're going to check if it really is a hardware problem is to install the standard SB ROM (Make sure you disable the re-locking program in the EXT_ROM before you do that - just soft reset when it tries to run the self config after setup, THEN delete the file from the EXT_ROM itself to stop Softbank from screwing you if they hard reset it.) You'll need to install that ROM if you want to return it for repairs anyway.
Is your SIM sitting OK? That caused me problems once before.
don't flash back to softbank yet....

Correct me if I am wrong, but if he installs the SB ROM it will lock his phone for good right? I think it upgrades the radio to the locked 1.14.01.10 If he does downgrade to SB 5 by extracting only the rom from the setup file, then I can't see it making a difference. He should either get a signal or not get a signal, right? I guess though, if it is unlocked and he sends it in for repairs it is going to come back locked in any event.
Wow...many thanks for support BUT still ???
See, I can not get any support from Softbank because I do not have a Softbank phone. The only pda they offer is the X01T HTC with a japanese OS. I have one but it was run over by a car... I can still access the data inside via activesync. Is it possible to copy a particular file from inside that phone to this one.
I bought a Tmobile WIZA200 from the states. Even if I carried it to Softbank, they will not take it because it is in English (&@*#). I am starting to think it is a hardware issue and hope I dnt get burned on this ebay transaction, but have read some other threads that Japan is difficult (like always). Security Nazi's is an understatement.
I relatively understand these replies but don't really wanna get stuck with a "fried" phone through trial and error.
Do I need a SoftBank ROM?
If so, will I be able to unlock it through the methods in this site?
Will the ROM from an X01T work?
My old X01T, I had it unlocked and changed to English OS but all the unlocking was code based....I never had to input a code in this WIZA200 so I think the person unlocked it before me and I was just doing redundancy...???
Many thanks for your input.
Sent you a PM.

It's moot since he's not got a Softbank phone anyway, but the ROM itself doesn't lock the radio in, a program in the EXT_ROM writes the 1.14.01.10 radio, and then changes the bootloader (I think) so you can't change the radio. It doesn't lock a previously unlocked phone - I know because I have the black model and foolishly loaded the new ROM that locked the radio in, but my phone is still unlocked and supercid, which I'd done before flashing the SB ROM.

I don't think so, but you have a Softbank SIM from the crushed phone, right? Was that damaged in any way?
btw, does this ROM works with MMSlite? or it uses SB original mail program?
Hmmm...It sounds like there are great minds working on this
I had a reply from another thread with the same question and they are having kind of the same problem...I have seen this is several threads. from Japan users with unauthorized hardware.

Is it possible to manually go in and change the radio to 1.14.01.10 and is that the right ?freq? (I hope Im understanding this right). Also, do you know which files these are exactly within the phone and is it possible to go into my old one, copy the right files, change some wording and paste into my WIZA200? Where did you get the SB ROM, etc...?
hey, links are dead....
can I get a link to the Japanese Forum or to the rom.

Upgrading Radio

This is a re-post of one I did on PPCGeeks. Haven't received an answer there yet.
I have a Verizon xv6900 that has the 2.31 unlocker on it. I have flashed to other 6.1 ROMs, but am currently running the stock Verizon one. When I flashed back to stock, I let the customizations run (I like the version of Opera that comes with it) and my gps is non-functional. I've fought Valhalla, all the "fixes" that seem to work only for specific users and am wondering if upgrading the radio will fix the GPS. I went back to the stock ROM because the bluetooth works with my Redfly. I would trade that for working gps in a custom ROM.
If I upgrade to the Bell ROM with radio 3.42.50,
1. Will I get the use of the gps back?
2. Will I need a new A-key?
3. Will this lock me into using only custom ROMs?
4. Can I flash back to stock Verizon and will it downgrade the radio and poison the gps again?
Thanks for any help. I've read ImCoKeMaN's threads about downgrading radios and am just a little nervous about messing with the radio rather than just with the ROM.
You should but there has been problems like that with the stock verizon rom. Try to flash the Radio (3.4....or higher) and make sure you have Cokemans Unlocker/Bootloader.
If that doesnt work, refer to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462206
Hope you get the issue resolved. Good Luck!
1. Will I get the use of the gps back? Yes
2. Will I need a new A-key? Dont believe so
3. Will this lock me into using only custom ROMs? No
4. Can I flash back to stock Verizon and will it downgrade the radio and poison the gps again? Once you have it fully flashed you can always go back to stock (without downgrading radio) I think it is NOT good to DOWNGRADE the Radio. You dont have to change it back to flash to stock.

Glad I was able to help. Seems like quite a few of us are in NC.
No luck.... When I ran the second half of the directions first, no satelites were found. I then tried doing the ppst portion like the directions asked and nothing happens. It kills the phone connection and requires a soft reset to get it back. I backed out of everthing at that point since I'm on call and can't be without the phone.
1. Will I get the use of the gps back?
Negative, letting the customizations run on the stock verizon rom is the culprit, that locked down your gps. You just have to search on how to fix it, I believe you need to change your PRI or your PRL to get gps back.. not positive which but I've seen the fix on here
2. Will I need a new A-key? Nope
3. Will this lock me into using only custom ROMs? Nope
4. Can I flash back to stock Verizon and will it downgrade the radio and poison the gps again?
Yes you can "downgrade" back to your verizon rom and radio as long as it is the verizon wm 6.1 rom because that still has a GPS radio. I have gone from the Bell 3.42.50 radio back to the Verizon 3.37.38 a couple times, as the .38 actually seems to have better reception in the location I am now than the .50
edit: If you do get your GPS working by finding a fix and decide to flash back to the stock verizon rom.....
DO NOT LET THE CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN (soft reset the phone before they start on the first boot)
Hi Can anyone one confirm any perfomance change over using 3.37.77 or 3.37.78 or 3.42.50 radio ??

latest Verizon WM 6.1 ROM with upgraded 3.42.50 radio: possible?
So, is there any way to get a stock Verizon Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM on my Vogue (avoiding poison customizations, etc.) and put on the Bell 3.42.50 radio? I'm using the 3.42.50 radio right now, and it ROCKS, but I'd like to go back to the standard Verizon software load, other than the radio firmware.
In the Kaiser world, there are RUUs that update the radio only. Do these exist for Vogue? This would seem to be the ticket...

Recently tackled this myself, due to the lack of a small SD card, I flashed the Bell ROM which includes radio: 3.42.50. Personally, NFSFAN's 6.5 (also works with his 6.1 build) suits me well, so I RUU'd that over top of the Bell ROM, the bell radio stuck, and both NFSFANs builds works well with that radio.
Official Bell ROM from HTC includes 3.42.50 radio: http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=70&cat=2&dl_id=98
****If you want to keep the stock Verizon software (ROM, etc) take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415364 You can flash a stock Verizon ROM to your phone, and then, using a mSDcard flash the 3.42.50 radio.

Issues with Rom Downgrade?

Ok, So ive been trying like crazy to try to get gps locks with my xv6900, and I figured I would try the guide at
http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS
Well downloading them was quite easy and getting the .40 coke to run was fine, but when I tried running 2.RUU_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_1.12.651.1_2.13.00_SPC_NV133_Ship It gave me an invalid error Id 294. not sure what to do, I tried it a few more times and I kept getting the same errors. Afterwards I basically gave up thinking if it was this much of a pain than I can live without the GPS feature, but I dont know where to go from here. I did download a different rom specially for the xv6900 but from what I have read( and I could be wrong here) I need to install a rom that isnt GPS capable in order to be able to boot back into WM to get this all sorted out. Basically I just need a rom to do that, unless I screwed up more than I hope. So I can get this thing going, Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
EDIT : before i did this, I did install the BELL rom to upgrade to the 3.42.70? radio, perhaps thats why im getting the invalid ID error?
Also I am stuck at the 3 color screen that says
vogo100
SPL-0.36.0000
CPLD-3
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=547614&postcount=16
Just rerun stock rom exe...
Good luck.
I went there and i wasnt exactly sure which one to download, So i downloaded the VzW_Vogue_20273_a1.rar nad prior to extraction it asks for a password...
Please explain in greater detail as to how I can fix the issue, Thave You.
Stock Verizon rom
Awesome, back up and running, Thank You very much.
Why the f do people with vzw vogues insist on upgrading the radio to the bell radio? There is likely to be little or no benefit.
I upgraded my radio to the Bell one at first figuring that vzw screws us over with so much, maybe even the radio would be inferior to other service providers...
but as you said there would be little or no benefit, and truth be told I have less dropped calls and better service in with my vzw radio.
(my house is the worst place for service so testing this was quite easy for me, the vzw radio works 90% of the time, the bell radio wouldn't send text messages often and I would miss phone calls on the regular)

Yes GPS again

Im sorry to bother everyone with another thread and yes ive read everything on the internet trying to get this solved.
I have an xv6900 that is obviously on Verizon. I can get the GPS to lock and have tried many things. Instead of going through everything I will tell you what I just did and you can let me know what I did wrong of what I'm missing.
-First my phone is unlocked with coke 2.3.1
-I just flashed the official Verizon 6.1 update to my phone
-I did not allow customizations to run
-I installed NFSFAN's 6.1 ROM and let customizations run
Ok that is all I have done right now and no GPS. I didn't do the aGPS fix yet because it takes a little while and the last time it didn't help.
Here is what im confused about
-With the official Verizon radio but a custom ROM do I need the Valhalla hack?
-Are there any other cabs that I need to get it to work? I have seen various provisioning cabs but none of them helped before.
If you have read this far thank you for taking your time and please let me know if you have any ideas on how I can get this working.
Thank You,
thecaptain0220
This is my understanding
(1) The XV6900 uses the onboard gpsOne chip to gather gps data. Unless you do the programming explained at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix
the phone with custom ROMS will never get any gps information.
As near as I can tell the gps settings in the phone's registry have no effect on the XV6900 because the gpsOne chip does the work and it is programmed separate from the phone's ROM.
Mine works with the TELUS settings in the gpsOne programming and I can change the registry every which way and the gps still follows the gpsOne settings.
Hope this helps.
(2) The verizon aGPS server authenticates the caller and if you are not paying for Verizon navigator the server will not send back any data; effectively killing the aGPS ability of the phone.
That is why you see references to the TELUS aGPS settings. This directs the gpsOne chip tou use the TELUS aGPS server, this works as long as TELUS allows it to work.
Thanks for the quick reply.
So if I flashed the official wm 6.1 Verizon update followed by NFSFAN's wm 6.1 ROM what fix should I do? Should I do Custom ROM aGPS, Verizon MR1 GPS, or Verizon MR2 GPS?
I am unclear when people say that Verizon cripples the GPS whether it is done in the Radio or the ROM.
I can flash a new radio too if that is what needs to be done. I wanted to keep the Verizon radio so that it said Verizon on start up but if I cant do that its not a big deal.
When you flash the Verizon 5.1 update DO NOT let the customizations run.
When the 'customization in 3 seconds' window comes up reset your phone by pressing the stylus in the hole on the bottom of the phone.
You already have the Verzion radio and do not need any of the programs they are going to install because you are going to flash a custom ROM.
After it resets do the gpsOne programming explained at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix. This programs the gpsOne chip in the phone so it can communicate with an aGPS server. Use the TELUS settings for IP and PORT not the VERIZON ones in the Wiki.
TELUS IP = 216.198.139.92
TELUS PORT = 8889
Then load any custom ROM you want. the gpsOne programming is not affected by flashing a ROM to the phone, it will work with what ever one you choose to use.
Did you read this thread and do what it says? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533639 I did and my XV6900 gps works great now.
I was going to try that but I have heard that downgrading to an older radio is not a good idea. Has anyone done this? Is there a correct procedure to flash back to an older radio?
I think I might have figured out one of my problems but I'm not sure where to go from here. I did allow the customizations to run on the official 6.1 upgrade a while back. I assumed that re flashing the upgrade and not allowing the customizations to run would fix this but I think I'm wrong, could someone confirm this for me? Is flashing back to an older ROM the only way to fix this? If so what steps can I follow to minimize the risk of bricking the phone when downgrading? If this is a totally bad idea someone please say so now.

The fact that you let the customizations run means you are fairly screwed. You can probably get your Gps to work. I would flash a pre-GPS ROM & start over if having a functioning GPS is important to you.

To fix the problem with the customizations running try these steps. It worked for me and all the links to files are included in the post.

After you flash back and then forward to the newer radio you will need to call Verizon and have them re-authenticate your phone. Just tell them you applied the 6.1 update from 6.0 and they will be glad to help.

Thank you to everyone who helped me out on this one, I now have aGPS and lock on satellites in a few seconds. I am even getting satellites inside my office where I hardly get cell reception.
For future reference if anyone reads this later here are the steps I used. The problem was definitely that I had let the customizations run.
I followed this link first, Pocket PC WIki:FIX VERIZON GPS
I had no problems at all and I didn't even have to get a new A-key.
Then I followed the Custom ROM Instructions in this link Verizon AGPSFix
IMPORTANT: I also followed VZYGuy's advice and use the following settings instead of the Verizon info in the fix.
TELUS IP = 216.198.139.92
TELUS PORT = 8889
After all this everything is finally working great and im using the Verizon radio with NFSFAN's 6.1 ROM

This also is the way to fix the XV6900 if it comes new from Verizon with wm6.1 already installed with the 'crippled' GPS drivers.

Just what I was looking for. A 'simple' radio only update. Perfect. Now lets see if the new radio [ I was at 3.42.30 ] is better signal wise.
Where do I have to put that file???

It should update GPS, it is a catch22 in some regions like here in Salt Lake Utah the sprint radio works better for GPS but has poor signal on my phone.
does this work better than 3.42.50?
I live in Michigan (Detroit) idk about you, but here I went from 1-2 Bars with .30 and .50 to 7 with .40.. It's a major upgrade the GPS is juss a tad bit slower.

For the life of me I can't get it to update using the micro SD or through usb using RUU. Keeps telling me the RUU isn't for my model of phone. The last one I tried got to 8% on the phone and then the phone rebooted and the RUU stated I had an incompatible handset. I have unlocked the SPL and succesfully loaded NSFFANs WinMo 6.5. So I know it's not a lock issue. The SD problem is likely caused by the card being 4gb (I have read that it has to be below 2gb). I really preffer doing the update using a RUU. So. My Vogue is a Telus Touch 3050. Does anybody have a link I can look at that addresses my particular phone and updating the radio only? Don't want a stock ROM loaded. Just a radio update to help with GPS lock times (hopefully).
SD card must ben NON HD, so 2gb or less.

I'll upload them to my 4shared site here shortly.
I have the 3.42.30, 3.42.40, 3.42.50 As far as using an RUU I have never updated my radios that way but I know it can be done. Also you may want to partition your 4 gb card to 2 2gb partitions and see if that works. Also just to verify these are for CDMA Vogues AKA Touch. You will need to also use an RUU that is designated for the Touch Vogue.
This has the 3 radios mentions in my last post zipped together

So just to be sure, out of the ones you posted, which is the best and latest radio for the CDMA Vogue? Is it .40 or .50? I have a Sprint Touch (CDMA Vogue) and I want to install NFSFAN's WinMo 6.5 ROM on it but I want to update the radio because I think that is recommended to get this ROM. Also, I would like to improve signal and GPS in general, so I want to update the radio anyway.
Also, can you please clarify how exactly I update the radio using these files. I read the post about renaming it properly (.nbh), putting it onto a microSD card with fat32 file system, going into bootloader mode, then restarting the phone. How exactly do you go into bootloader mode to install this update? If someone could link me to step by step instructions for beginners, or explain it here that would be great, thanks a bunch!
Hello
First insert an SD card with the radio properly named.
To enter BL mode just press and hold the power and camera buttons simultaneously and poke your stylus in to the soft reset hole located next to the usb /charger connector.the screen becomes three coloured.
Now follow the on screen instructions.finally soft reset after successful flashing and you are done.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply. I just installed the new WinMo 6.5 ROM from vin on my phone and it worked. I still want to update my radio but I just want to make sure that the radio update won't overwrite the ROM upgrade, or make me have to do it over again.
This shouldn't happen right, like I should be able to just update the radio after installing this ROM and it should be fine?
Oh and one last thing, which is the best radio version to use for this phone? 3.42.40 or 3.42.50? I am currently using 3.42.30.
My original guess was .50, but apparently someone gets better signal with the .40 so I just want to be sure, thanks!!
Both .50 and .40 work well. .40 is newer than .50 but I used .50 for over a year and it was great.

Apparently Telus have the best radios over each system. And our 3.42.40 is equal to their 1.04.05v.. So check that list and see if .40 is in your range.

The link provided is for the Diamond and should not be used on a Vogue.

You will be fine just updating the radio it does nothing to the ROM. As for the best I think it depends what region you are in. You just need to experiment.
Hi All,
I have tried to flash a new radio on my new Vogue (Sprint HTC Touch) but for some reason I have been unable to do it. I have tried the following:
* Via SD (2GB non-SDHC)
* Via RUU in normal mode
* Via RUU in bootloader mode
* Re-downloading the files in case they were corrupted or something.
I have:
* Renamed the file(s) to VOGUIMG.nbh
* Unlocked and superCID unlocked my device
My phone is working fine with fairly good signal, but I read a few threads that mentioned that .40 has a faster lock for the GPS (as well as slightly better signal quality). I am currently on 3.37.10 and on WM 6.5.1 build 21864.
This is not my first time flashing anything by any means, but I cannot seem to be able to do this for some strange reason.
Any help is appreciated.
I actually got the RUU to start doing something but it stopped at around 30%
