Out of curiosity, does Sprint offer EVDO Rev 0, or just 1xRTT? Bell offers both, and there is a remarkable difference in speed, but Rev A does not appear dramatically faster than Rev 0. Since all the Sprint users are going nuts over Rev A, I was assuming they don't even have Rev 0, but maybe I'm wrong?

Sprint EVDO rev 0 has a max cap of 1.5 mbps
Rev A has a max cap of ~ 3 mbps
I'm getting ~ 1.2 mbps on a 4+ bar signal (rev 0)
good rundown

oh yeah, Sprint also throws you on 1xRTT while you're in a call... not sure if that will change with Rev A

That's normal. Rev A won't change it, as it doesn't let you use data/voice at the same time and never will.

How do you tell if you have EVDO Rev A.

I'm on the Telecom NZ network with the Vogue.. when I download SPB Monitor GPRS(monitors CDMA as well) tells me I'm downloading at 700Kb/s does this mean Rev A.
With internet sharing on (USB>Touch>Internet) IE said I was downloading at 50KB/s, its been higher too
What speed does the older one do?
The Touch is not (as of yet) Rev A enabled, so no, you are not running on Rev A.
When it is enabled, you will see download speeds ranging anywhere from your current speeds (300-1000 kbps) up to a max of around 2 mbps.
Uploads should also increase from around 100 kbps to an average of about 300 kbps, although some see uploads as high as 6-700 on occasion.
My best speed tests on my Mogul (which is Rev A enabled) gave me about 2.2 mbps down, and 550 kbps up. I can average about 1 mbps down and 300 kbps up everywhere I go. Hopefully the Touch gets GPS and Rev A soon, but there is no official date set.

[q] ev-do rev a vs ev-do rev 0

I have an evo 4g that im about to flash to boost mobile. If i use a evdo rev 0 "donor" will i get evdo rev a speeds because the evo is? Don't say its illegal, I'm not asking about help for that. I'm just asking about network speed.
some one here must know this answer
YEs what ever the donor phone is that is what your basing the web on.
The epic forum for a loop hole.
Try them out.

You'll get whatever speeds the new phone is capable of.
In this case, EVDO Rev A (and Rev B if/when it's "enabled")

Does the Samsung Epic Touch 4G support 3G Rev b?

Hello,
I heard sprint is updating their 3G network to rev b which could provide very fast 3G coverage - faster than 4G in some cases. Anyone know if the new Epic Touch 4G does rev b? I know the evdo 3d can do rev b.
Yes it will.

Thanks - I couldn't find anything concrete in the specs on the ET4G. All of the specs sheets I could find on it said EV-DO Rev A.
Nice.
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4g via XDA Premium App. Soon to be swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII Epic Touch on Tuesday.
This isn't confirmed yet, only a rumor. I sure hope it is true though!
Same here!

Small update

yes! I saw 1600kbps download on 3g today...repeated multiple times. Once I left the area it went back to normal speed, so the tower I was connected to must have the latest and greatest. It wasn't that fast 2months ago in the exact same spot.

You just got a nicely performing evdo rev a cell site. Rev b should be much faster. Dies anybody know if the EVO view supports rev b?

Is that under optimal conditions. IE nobody connected to the tower? When I go out to the country (I live in farming area) I get decent speeds, but as soon as I get into the city data speeds get miserable. This was in the middle of the city.
I saw some other strange things this evening near my house where I get almost no service...I think they are gearing up for the iphone.
According to this it will

I've always wondered tho.....those speeds are they best case (1 person connected) or are they realistic (1,000 phones connected?)?

Interesting that you say that... When I go to my cottage up in the middle of the woods of northern Wisconsin, I get 3G roaming from Alltel (I think CellOne bought those particular towers, not Verizon), I get FAR faster data speeds than I do in the middle of Milwaukee.
Bit confusing this thread sez it suppots revb but then this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272773
sez no rev b. Wonder which way it will end up ...

3G speeds *Please Help*

Im currently on the latest Miui 109090 and savaged-zen 2.0.2 cfs havs gb+ kernel. I noticed my 3g was horrible so decided to do a speed test and Im averaging around 250 ping, 150kbs upload and about 200kbs download. Why is my 3g so incredibly bad? is it sprint or my rom/kernel?

Pretty sure its Sprint. My speeds have abysmal in the past few weeks. Never had these issues before. They dont seem ROM related
Prolly all the iphone hippies...
My knocked up EVO
It's Sprint. My 3G has gotten worse but my 4G has taken an even bigger hit. I've also noticed more that I'll lose 3G and drop to 1X in an area I KNOW has 3G coverage, and sometimes it won't switch back unless I toggle the mobile data on and off.
My 3G tests have ranged from 175 kbps (5:30 PM) to 860 kbps (11 AM). While I used to be able to hit up to 8 mpbs on 4G, my last two tests showed me at 1860 kbps and 1740 kbps. That is slower than any other carriers 3G, like really Sprint? Wimax is a ****ing joke (probably more due to the spectrum used but still)

You guys are doing better than me.......I'm down to 54kb. Checked wifes intercept and it is a little better but.not much. I'm so sick of this!!!!!
Anyway thanks for listening lol

Yep, way better than mine. I havent gotten above 100kbps since last November.
ok.. thats "good" i guess.. I was this close to wiping everything and starting from scratch, but I guess this horrible service is normal.
What dbm are you guys getting? im at -99
Pretty sure it's Sprint as others have already said. In north NJ and my speeds have been horrible for the last 6 months. Just getting worse and worse.
I signed up with Sprint cause of unlimited data but what's the point of having it when it's so slow as to be nearly useless? I have wifi everywhere at work so not an issue but I used to be able to stream music while driving and that's no longer possible.
I've tried just about every speed tweak out there, including the 3G script, resetting data, changing proxy settings and different radio combinations but all have ended up yielding 0 results. My speeds max out at 0.20 Mbps at best.

Yeah, about the same, sometimes up to 85.
Rediculouse that we have to pit up with it.

What's funny is Sprint featured some video chat apps on their Twitter account the other day. I replied back basically, "Why feature video chat apps when there's only a 200 kbps network?" They never got back to me, .
3g dial up speed internet access.
Glad Roaming is free till they yell at me. haha
How do u force roam?.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
To Force roaming.
There is an app called roam control that will do it for you or there is a new rom called Evo Classic v0.0.3 that has it baked in the rom.
I've got roam control already but it doesn't seem to do anything. And yes I am rooted
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Roam Control will only let you roam for voice. For data, you will be on 1x only. (although 1x is usually faster than what I get on sprint's 3g).
To fully roam on verizon with 3g you will need to flash the verizon prl here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073
Be sure to fully read, and understand that until you unflash the prl, you will be CONSTANTLY roaming on verizon, for both voice and data. Your phone won't show you are roaming, so be careful and dont forget and leave it on verizon for too long. Sprint will catch you if you go over about 3gb of data, and they could kick you off their service.
How do u get back to sprint after you flash the Verizon prl?
Edit: nvm, just figured it out

3G speed versus OG EVO

I was setting up tethering on my cousins phone who has an original EVO. I decided to do a speed test and he was pulling 5mbit over 3g. I did the same test on my E4GT and only pulled .25mbit.
I'm wondering if Sprint is throttling my data rate. Both these tests were from the exact same area. The EVO consistently pulled 4-5mbit while my E4GT never got above 0.5mbit.
Is this happening to anyone else?
No, Samsung just can't design radios. Every Samsung phone on every carrier released in the last two years has had signal problems.

Oh....well that's definitely disappointing. I assume it can't be fixed by a driver update?
It would be literally impossible for your cousin to get 5 mbps over 3G. Evdo rev. A, the standard Sprint uses for 3G, has an absolute maximum theoretical data rate of 3072 kbps. Are you sure that 4G wasn't on on the Evo?

+1 to this ... I doubt you can get 5 mbps over 3G ... nope!

I'm positive. Sprint doesn't even have 4g in our area. That's what speakeasy.net/speedtest reported. It's quite interesting that 3072kbps is the theoretical max though. Maybe something else was going on.
Guess that means I'll have to run some more tests.
The 3g speeds on this phone are comparable to the evo from what I tested, same servers speeds within 100 kbps of each other. 4g on the epic touch was better.

The Speedtest app is strange and unreliable. Under "tools" turn slide the animation bar all of the way off and the tests are higher. Its as if the animations effect the tests. Here's 2 screenies ..one with animation off and the other all of the way on. I read about this in the Epic forum and supposedly it makes a big difference on 3g test scores
