WM6.1 For Blackjack II (i617) - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I can't really find much discussion on this, or any other boards for this.
Anyone think WM6.1 will be coming to the BJII or if it's hackable to work on it?
I have no idea how to go about it, so all I can do is request it....

Take a look over at http://www.txcaesar.net
We have WM6.1 working on the BJ1, I have no BJII device to test with however
Also, I have posted there in the forum an itsutils script to automate dumping of the ROM, and also a copy of the dumped ROM

txcaesar? Aren't you the ones that were charging for the MPx200 upgrade that I had for free at mpxupgrade? Or were you the ones that helped me get it up and offer it for free?
Anyway, thanks for the link. Looks like the BJII has been dumped and uploaded to your site. I have no idea how to progress from there, but if no one does it before easter /summer break, guess I may give it a try then...

Charging for a ROM upgrade? I find the notion amusing.. (I would never do that)
I could cook up a BJII ROM, but i have no device to test with, and so far no one else is crazy enough to risk bricking their device

I'm willing to try if you want to create a ROM for the BJII

does flashing a rom unlock the device as well ?
i had got a at&t blackjack2 and i looking at unlocking it.
any help

typically the phone must be unlocked before cooked ROM could be flashed.
To my knowledge there isn't a free option available to unlock the i617 yet.

Hey, guys, has anything happened with this? I too would love to upgrade. Based on prior experience, AT&T won't be releasing an official upgrade for another 4-6 months.

Someone needs to give MOHBY a hand extracting the ROM from his i617(thread below) and we will all be happy campers.

i have a sgh-i617... but it is locked in AT&T... is there a way to use it in any other network?... i have to say that contacting AT&T is not an option...

Question about ROM upgrade

Hello everyone -
Newbie here at this stuff, and I was wondering if I can download the Universal ROM AKU3.5 and install it on my Verizon XV6700 phone?
Thanks.
P.S: Universal means it's for everyone? or is it another brand like HTC, Apache, etc.

Universal is a BRAND, just as Apache is a BRAND.
I suggest you read the Apache Wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Apache
Not much info on there right now, but it will get you started. Also, do a forum search for the Apache or the XV6700 to find out if other owners are successfully able to flash to a new ROM and the steps they took to do it.
Good Luck!!
Thanks for the reply, one question though, you mentioned about new ROM for XV6700 over Apache forum, and I'm assuming u mean the Sprint AKU2.2 ROM right? If so I already got it flashed in my Verizon XV6700 and working now. What i'm interested in is the AKU3.x ROM. Is it possible at this moment?
Thanks.
That's a question you'll need to answer yourself from reading the thread that has the ROM you want to flash to. Each ROM has it's own prerequisites for a successful upgrade, so I wouldn't even want to presume to know whether you can or can't.
Here's the link to Molski's AKU3.2 ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286988
However, it's in the Wizard upgrade section, so you might not be able to use it on your Apache. The only way to know for sure is to read the ENTIRE thread to see if you could use it on your device.
If so, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!!
If it's a Verizon phone, it is not GSM based, therefore it is TOTALLY different from the Wizard, and most other HTC devices.
If you can't do it yourself, learn. If you can't learn, wait for someone else to do it, and find out from them.
Now go have fun!

Possible Official ROM Windows Mobile 6?

Hey guys, I ran into this file at one of the sites I frequent. I was told it was the official WM6 ROM. He never specified for what device though. Now I'm pretty new at this so I have no idea how to tell if it is or not, but here's the link:
http://rapidshare.com/files/26245823/WinMobile6.rar
password to unzip file is: 4shar1ng
I performed my 1st upgrade ever last night thanks to the help here. I now have WM6 Black running great on my TyTN. Let me know how that ROM goes. Thanks
DO NOT flash this until the gurus have had a chance to take a look.

ASUS P550 - help?

Hi,
I have a problem and after doing a massive research I found this forum and I am wondering if someone could help me.
I have been trying to locate ASUS P550 for several weeks now and although it's sold in the UK as Vodafone v1520, it's modified for branding purposes and no good. At least I think it's not good. After talking to ASUS support I found out that the model is also for sale in Russia and Ukraine as ASUS P550, but unfortunately the WM6 on these devices is Russian.
Before deciding on buying the device I wanted to know if it would be possible that someone with the necessary skills and knowledge would be willing to try to change the language to English. I noticed that someone has done something similar for previous ASUS models like the P535. What I had in mind was that I would buy the device, export the ROM image and let somebody have it for modyfying / testing.
I have to say that I don't know much about smartphones and/or PDA-s besides what I have read and that is that the language cannot be changed simply by a push of a button like a normal person would expect. I also don't know much anything about ROMs or handling them, therefore I don't know whether it's possible to modify the ROM at all without the specific device in hand.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Nobody knows nothing?
OK, I guess I am in a wrong message board.
I would have paid - and I still would - $100 for this.
I have the vodaphone version v1520 I am not sure what the difference is to the native version but its a great phone very fast and stable.
what do you think the other does that is advantageous and can I help clarify anything at all.
Thank You for your input. The answer to Your question is actually that after read some threads about the Vodafone branding I don't think that one or the other has any advantages over the other anymore. I just could not get my hands on the v1520 (which is English of course) while I was posting this thread. But now I got one from ebay and it is delivered tomorrow. So no need for ROM cooking anymore.
Thanks again.
Ok mate
If you find anywhere to learn and get cooked roms for the device let me know I have searched and searched but cant find anywhere.
the device is good but cooked roms always are better than shipped roms.
I cant seem to find a forum on the device with anyone doing anything with it..
If you know anything at all pm me or post here
Cheers
ps if I learn anything I will let you know
OK, deal. What I was told in another forum was that since the device is so new and there isn't yet an official ROM outthere it's quite too soon to expect to see a cooked ROM. It just takes time probably.

@djsky123, take some time to read through the threads in this forum and familiarise yourself with the ROMs currently alive....CRCs, PDAcorner and MRH seem to be the current ROMs in progress..
I think CRC's ROM is probably the best in existence...
I might have a little bit of bias though
Seriously though, have a read through what is included on the ROMs and see what fits your personal tastes...
Just make sure you flash your device with HardSPL first to prevent future tears...

Dear Ian,
I cannot tell which ROM to flash because it depends on MANY things... Nevertheless i can tell you a few things thay will help you...
1. Read the Flashers BIBLE i.e. the WIKI.
2. Never, but NEVER mess or tamper with our PDA unless you are sure of what you'r doing BEFORE you do it. If your are not sure ask before.
3. Never pay attention to flames or stupid answers. You will get quite a few over here...
4. I was oncve a noob and i know how it feels to e stepingon muddy watters.
5. If you feel you get no positive answer to your questions, PM me at will and i will try to help.
Cheers, welcoe and good luck
no you need to run an unlocker not flash the radio you can get the unlocker for the hermes from here if its a g3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
first of all do Hardspl, this will unlock your device too.
remember - when you flash any official rom you automaticaly erase hardspl. suggest you to try some pdaviet roms, for noob they are very nice. but if you need stability - try pda corner e.t.c. by the way - Im using spv too

I did HardSPL, so it should be unlocked I guess.
One issue i've got with CRC's 6.1 rom is that when I get an answerphone message, it only comes through as a text message showing random characters. Can this be fixed somehow?

When you get to a ROM-specific issue, it is best to post in the specific thread for that ROM (helps keep the forums organized and helps you get an answer more quickly)

I was looking for this too so I have a backup before I change the ROM on my Ignito.
I couldn't find it though, and have spent the last hour and a half searching. Did you manage to find it yet?
I did dump the rom from my phone, but am struggling to make it back into a flashable rom. Would prefer to get hold of a known working original o2 ignito rom.
I dont think anyone has dumped one yet.
Looks like you guys could be the first . Just run through the tutorial on making a backup of your ROM then post it on here .

I've already done that, I now have Part00.raw, Part01.raw, Part02.raw and Part03.raw.
As I understand it, Part01 and Part02 make up the ROM.
I did download a kitchen to try and make up a flashable rom myslef, but can't quite figure it out.
If I posted Part01 and Part02 would other people make up a flashable rom (and test it)??
I dont see why not . Lots of clever and helpful people on here . This is what the forum is all about

I think I've managed to figure it out, and i'm about to remake the rom from the stuff I dumped from the phone. Will then try flashing it back and see if it works.
As I understand it, I can't brick it doing this as I haven't messes with the SPL yet, so if it does all go wrong I can then install a hard spl and then flash any rom I want.
Please correct me if i'm wrong and about to brick my phone.

I really don't know.
I've dumped the rom, and then done all the stuff in the rom kitchen, but don't know if what I have ended up with is an actual working rom image.
I'm reluctant to actually try it on my phone in case I brick it.
I've pretty much decided to wait until O2 release an updated ROM before I put a different rom on my phone so that I have an official rom to go back to if needed.
