[how to] Make wm5 themes

ok well ive noticed alot of people like the classic theme and im one of them! so i hope mr meschle will create wonderful colors of them! i tried doing it myself and the background always comes out awful.. i want to keep that classic windows 5 backgroud you know the one with the flag and stuff. well mark has made some wonderful colors.. green/red/purple but can you either give us a step by step guide on how you do it or make tons of colors? like yellow/orange/sky blue/deep blue/royal.. etc
im still using the green one and love it.. i switch back and forth between your purple and the mocked green windowsmobile theme

Probably easiest way to create true wm5 themes is use 'wm5 template.tsk' or 'wm5 template color bars.tsk'(attached - unzip) and replace stwater.gif with your own one using ThemeGenCE http://www.codeppc.com/telechargements/themegence/themegence.htm - thanks BenThon for the great thememaker.
Note stwater image examples are 320x320 in size - this seems to be the default size of all the new microsoft wm5 themes, even with the new HTC_default.tsk. (Tytn theme)
Most of these themes use stwater only and leave tdywater.gif out. There is no need for both files anymore unless you want a different start menu compared to the today screen. (Stwater only themes are smaller in size too)
If you want to use image higher than 256 colors use jpg or png format and then rename extension to gif - it works! (jpg gives a smaller file)
With themegen you have to ignore a bit what's on the main preview as that is meant for wm2003 but there is a wm5 preview that is more accurate except the wm5 color keys+ are not rendered.
Next change colors of title and soft key bars etc...(With Wm5 main theme colors are now mainly determined by basehue) - best option is to deselect all the normal color selections (in the templates already deselected) and use base hue color value (click Wm5 - create BaseHue Key for the theme) or choose navigation bar color 1 and this will determine the base hue color. Then you can add key colors that are specific for your theme.
If you can't get the color you want for title or soft key bars (eg brown does not show as brown on the normal selection) use Wm5 - keys+ - Color_SoftkeyFlatCentre and Color_TitleFlatCenter. Use 'Wm5 template color bars.tsk' as a template for this kind of theme.
To change image color e.g. windows default wm5 theme
Using ThemeGenCE version 1.7.0.0 select - 'choose\modify images' icon and the use the hue slider to determine color, tweak with RGB, gamma and light/dark and your done. Save image.
Or use Xnview for pc. http://perso.orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/endownloadwin32.html or other photo editor and tweak the stwater.gif of the theme. Click image - change to true color. Then click adjust - hue\lightness\saturation and presto you can change the color at will mainly using the hue slider. Then you can simply change to red or another color. Save to file - choose 256 colors.
EXAMPLES BELOW OF WHAT CAN BE ACHIEVED BY SIMPLE CHANGING OF HUE COLOR OF THE IMAGE AND CHANGING BASE HUE OF THE THEME.
New dark blue theme added (my favorite) and Wm green theme is an updated version as is new Wm_black theme
EDIT Updated wm_green and wm_purple themes. Originals were not totally right - new ones are based on one base hue key only and are superior
EDIT2 Added wm_black2 theme as black seems to be popular - this based on base hue and wm5 key+ values.
New Wm_Orange theme added

I will try and make a blue version of the Tytn theme later and post it here.

Water droplets blue Wm5 theme
This theme has to be classed as true wm5 theme - its stwater only (320x320) and only one basehue registry key. (i.e. color for title and soft key bars) Image saved in png format, resolution (true color) and renamed gif to make the theme. All the other colors are handled by wm5.

EDIT 5/9 added Color_highlight and '34' wm5 keys to give better highlights and improved theme.

True Mobile 5 themes
I have a thread started in regards to dialer skins titled - "Tired of your ugly dialer skin" I hate the tmobile dialer skin!
Anyways, I have started creating some true windows mobile 5 themes, which will also contain matching dialer skins and ringtones, smart dialer skins, etc
I got tired of downloading "windows mobile 5" themes, that were really only for 2003 and below.
For mobile 5 themes, there are 2 different sets of registry values! One is the old CE registry values set, which in general work fine. The other set changes features unique to windows mobile 5 OS. You will notice the difference when you install a theme, but some features still have remnants of your old theme.
Anyways, glad to see there are others out there trying to get some themes up!

I know jacob-mda - i tried and it just comes out muddy. Will try and think of a new way for those colors.
btw jacob as much as i like my name in the spotlight, can you remove 'meschle save us' from the thread title so that anyone can use this thread to post their WM5 themes - cheers

I agree Jess, but if you look at the inf file of the water droplets theme you will see there are none of the old values, they are not essential unless you want to tweak your wm5 theme. It only has one color reference in the theme and thats the base hue value. The microsoft wm5 themes seem to have some of these old color values but i cannot see that they make any difference in say the guava bubbles tsk.

the baseHue key is great for shifting the existing theme layout to another color. I'm setting up completely unique color schemes by changing all the reg keys that matter...

I have tried all of them jess - none seem to shift the highlight color - it seems to be determined by the base hue color and if you have not specified a base hue color wm5 picks the closest base hue color based on your title bar color (navigation bar color 1 - selection 5 in themegen) and hence highlight color.
I hope you understand that - if you find a key let me know :wink:
EDIT Try the highlight key in the wm5 key+ section

How did u get that analogue clock? Looks cool.

i do believe that clock is either SBSH clock or SPB clock or something.. im pretty sure its from one of those 2 developers.

I use v0.1.3 as it uses less memory, attached is my skin and edited files to get the look shown.
replace blue folder in rltoday directory with one enclosed.

Black Aero Theme

How can I change the color of the bars in the Aero.tsk theme? The default is the color teal. Anyone knows how to change it to black?

u should use Basehue!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Color
Scroll down until you see "BaseHue". Open it and change the number value to 160. Press ok at the top and you're done.
If you don't have a registry editor on your wm6 rom, then find one.

Hopefully you will see, the changes I have made, you can only see as they are pointed out.. but only when put against a stock version will it really show!
As a good tester... bring your HD up with the same page as you are looking at as my pics... then look at changes,, subtle... but better
Right.. Here are the first 2 cabs.
As with everything in TF3D.. turn off TF3D.. and copy/backup all your _manila files from \Windows to your PC. This way.. you always have a return/system restore point.

First of all, great job.. I've kind of come to expect this level of work in your releases. Looks simply fantastic!
Now, here's my suggestion: can you provide the option for users to set their own wallpaper before installation - and keep it across all tabs? What I mean - the upcoming .cab would take the Today's wallpaper and, upon installation, set it as the default for all tabs.
Or - a little variant - in case that a single 800x480 .png file is present in the installation cab's folder, take it and set it as a wallpaper across all tabs.
That would allow for some level of personal touch...
Great work, anyway. Looking forward to see in on my HD.

What I would personally like:
Indeed a couple of cabs, for example, I would like to have all these changes, except the coloured top icon bar and the background.
For me it would be difficult to change back to original background in all tabs.
Furthermore, the orange theme is really really nice.
You say that this theme will have an option to change colour, does that work ok?
One last thing: in the "orange" theme, did you color it all? For example, also the volume up color, loading bars, etc etc?

Hi...
The ability to embed the background from a pic.. is something i cannot do.
There is nothing stopping someone else writing a prog to do this though...
simpley write the header to a _manila file.. read in the pic... write it into the new _manila and then write in the footer and save the _manila to the right name into the \windows dir.
Would take some coding.. but i'm sure some guys here can do it.
The only thing i can do is make the 2 packs.. and have them so you install the
Core pack with all transparancy and tidy ups..
colour pack - orange / purple / Xperia.
This would be the easiest way..
otherwise you will get
top bar
bottom bar
message icon
mail icon
phone icons comm manager
phone icons settings..
and so on... it would be a real long winded thing to do.
let alone the inability to support all these things
I could create the colour packs (which do colour the volume and progs like mp3 trimmer.. and the highlight bars...) without the background change.. so if you have your own bg files.. they will remain.
i will however put in the new fix i made for the bg Strip problem.
(93 downloads.. so i guess ppl needed it)
(i am working on how to set highlight colours to match in explorer.. I have them done. but i need an easier way)
I am also making the dialer that matches.. so a thin orange shadow behind each button... on a black bg

It just looks so ... stock.

No. ALS.. Here in the UK.. old customers could have 2 telephone lines/contrcts/numbers on 1 sim.

No longer available.. but those of us still got it.. we can keep it. simply press # to switch lines for outgoing calls.
incoming calls come through on both regardless of which is selected.

Accent Color Collection

Hey Guys,
I love the ability to have custom accent colors on WP7.
So I wanted to ask you guys whats the registry code for your custom accent color. Maybe we could make some kind of collection for color codes
I use those at the moment:
Mint #FF01D86C
Orange #FFFF5900
Purple #FF6D24945
Electric Blue #FF3711C2
Grey #FF838284
Maybe someone also could provide the codes for the carrier/OEM specific accent colors, like HTC, Orange UK, T-Mobile etc.
For changing the colors I use schaps Advanced Config, thanks for that!

Really dig the colors! Advanced Config stopped working so I need to reinstall it, but I checked them via some hex color site and digging all of them. Can you add new colors in the new version of Advanced Config, or do you need to overwrite existing colors?

For me, not custom, but the best accent color is red!

I have Version 1.4 on my LG Optimus 7 with Mango and you can add new colors. I don't know how many but I haven't reached the maximum yet
At the moment I really love the HTC color: #FF69B40F
I don't know if this is the real thing I only found it somewhere and like it

Been using the Nokia Blue... looks sweet with the Black bg.

what's the hex code

Check the "KulerCream" app at the marketplace...it connects to a big database with colour combinations and it shows you the hex value for each color...I only wish advanced configuration tool to had an option for a custom background color too..I don't want to mess with registry...

yeah but is it possible to do add some new colors beside the two black and white, i mean like some standard colors, and have a choice beetween 5, 6, 7, or more colors? but NOT to change the chevron unlocked, or custom rom? something like adding to the registry more folders with background colors...

How do you know this? Is there a registry explorer for the Lumia now?

I would like to know this also. Can this be done to the Lumia? I'm very boring, the bright colours are a bit much for me, would prefer a subtle grey or something.

Somehow it reminds me to a theme I had on my HTC one. But who cares, a good resemblance is better than a bad new theme. ?

Hi, depends how to define white on black... ?
Most annoying for me is to almost get my eyes burned while reading at night. So: a light grey clock on a dark background would be best.
Actually: I'm mostly concernd about two things:
- the dark grey clock
- white-ish pin input-screen (see your screenshots)
The lock screen image I can change myself, however not the clock color. So a standard bright clock in lock screen would be great.
Same for the pin input-screen. Although I love your white-ish digit screen and red touch highlighting, my eyes get hurt during night time.
So, a night mode friendly version is highly welcome here ?

It's an app you can test your theme there checkboxes etc.

You should totally consider putting this up on the play store. It's beautiful. And I just love the keyboard skin. Amazing job mate!

Great job! Just a question: how did you theme the keyboard? Is there a tool from Sony or at least any documentation?

I have a request can u make a theme with blue accent and maybe the letters in a Lligtt white box with custom softkeys maybe it would be very appreciated the symbols in the keyboard is tory dark and 4 can barely see what in taping on thank u for a very freakin nice theme best regards

Theres no tool or any documentation sadly, I decompiled the keyboard looked at the skin_permissions.xml which is located in the res/xml folder there you can see what is allowed to theme, created a new asset and only changed the colors of the keyboard if you have apktool knowledge feel free to decompile my keyboard asset :victory:

Thank u recent is dark can barely see . And it would be so freaking beautiful to have little grey like I have edited here cheers

Yeah, I decompiled it already. I see what you did there..
Hopefully it will be included in the next Theme Creator update. That orange highlight color is driving me mad.
BTW you may want to take a look at the colors when holding a key to get the accented letters or symbols. At least with international languages (mine is Italian). The highlighted character disappears, I believe you used the same color of the background.

I noticed that too I wanted to make a white version and saw that i used the same color thats the result :silly: I will fix it when im home thx for telling me :highfive:
