[Q]Stock Roms vs Custom ones

Hello folx..
Im using Desire HD for a while and wanted to ask you:
What is the diffrence between stock rom and custom roms ? What do i get if i put custom rom on my desire hd ? I have to root it i know that. But is it worth to put custom rom?
Thanks alot in advance for responses..
as i can see in your signature, why have you modde your HD2? the same reason to not be controlled by anyone to what you do with something that you own, to be free of bloatware that the companys want sell you. that is why i keep mine as plain as possible.

Yes, i modded my HD2, because it has Wm stock on it, and i wanted android.. But i still cant see right bemefits of custom android roms for DHD.. Maybe im not reading much...
Briefly - Most custom ROMs are better optimized for speed, smoothness, battery life, user customization, extra settings etc. Not only that but most bugs are fixed before HTC would ever get round to it.
Do it, you wont look back
But , if i root my phone, i loose warranty ? Is there any chance i could "unroot" my phone ( revert to process of rooting, so i can keep my warranty for any case..) ?
If it's anything like the Hero (which I'm sure it is), then flashing an official HTC RUU ROM will remove root.
Best to check in the DHD development section though, there's a FAQ there
EDIT: As always, it's best to do as much of your own research and reading as you can before trying anything new, but here's a link to a thread about removing root etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9985360#post9985360

Use the stock rom, until this is no longer a question to you.

Can you tell me the URL?
Stock rom is whichever rom came with your phone. What I meant was that you should not rush to flash any rom before you realize what you need, what you're looking for, and what the roms offer.

Excellent advice I think. I'd really like to move to froyo (for better camera apps and call recording), but I'm holding it off until I really know what I'm talking about. I see too many people here who flashed a ROM and are now stuck with something (or so it seems) they didn't want.
Before you change your rom, you should create a nandroid backup of your device.
I could not say, if it´s generally possible to change the rom which is branded by your provider.
With my provider and my phone, it was possible (meanwhile on 3.4.2 155-002). So I have no experience with swiss devices, I can´t tell you, that it will work with your phone.

[Q]is it possible to root/install custom roms safely to a desire z 2.3 ota from htc?

Can i safely root/install custom roms in a desire z that was upgraded to gingerbread?
I am completely new to rooting/installing custom roms to any android phone. i held out doing so because my original plan was to wait for the 2.3 update from htc. using the official update is a nightmare. i always have lags in messaging and the sense always restarts when i go back to the home screen. can i safely root and install custom roms in my phone? can anyone point me to a very easy to follow guide to do so? thank you very much.
tsk tsk tsk
dude... first of all: USE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! XDA mods have hard time maintaining the community and thousands (hundreds of) posts as is so any unnecessary posts should really be avoided.. back to thread..
Is it possible? YES! Is it safe??? No way!!!
As you can probably see in every single rooting/custom ROM flashing tutorial/guide - there's no such thing as "safe rooting/installation of custom ROM" and nobody will give you any guarantees there. ppl share their experiences but those don't necessarily relate to your (or any) other device in general.
if you mess with your phone - you must be mentally prepared for the worst, otherwise - don't do it.
there's a thread which already covers this topic

also - WIKI is your friend!!! cheerz!

Just give the search a chance
thank you very much for your answers alcak4ever and QSchachi. i followed the link above and did it.so far im think i got it. the only problem is the download for the rom is slow.hehe. thanks again!
"Safe" is a relative term. Almost any phone modding carries some risk of damaging your device (brick, soft brick, etc.). But if you read up BEFORE you start, and follow the instructions carefully, the risk is pretty small. Just do the research, and understand the risks, and you should be fine.

Possible - yes. Whether anyone will take interest in spinning up a traditional ROM given pool of GSIs is another matter.
I tried to make a customized ROM but I was unsuccessful in my project, the phone gave hard brick and I had to change the motherboard, things are kind of difficult for the G7 play.(I'm from Brazil my English is not 100%)
