WM6.1 Alltel Touch - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum but have been playing at similar forums. It started with wanting to try every program I could find and lead to wanting to get WM6.1 on my Touch. I couldn't find one so I made one. It is my first attempt at anything of this magnitude. Anyway, I succeeded in Changing the splash screen and adding a few OEMs (sipChanger, Touchpal and a few others that may or may not stay.) I needed my Touch to stay fairly stock as I work for an Alltel Agent and need to demo my phone to customers. So all the stock software is still in my ROM. I posted it on ppcgeeks and ppcwarez but haven't had much response. I haven't had too many problems (a few quirks when switching programs but nothing major.)
Is there anyone out there that would be interested in this? I want to do some more modifications but if it's only for myself I will probably take my time.
Also I do have some questions, so if you are interested and want me to continue I would probably need some help.
Here is the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/102675408/plckc_signed.rar
I would up it to the ftp but I get more stupid as the day progresses and its already pretty late.

I started work on it tonight

This sounds like just what I've been looking for, but I'm not technical enough to be of much help. I'm downloading it now to give it a try.

help
how do i install wm6.1

Seen your rom on ppcgeeks, flashed it, and was for the most part happy. In the touchflo cube, the pictures and videos bring up a black screen i belive. love the wm6.1 though. I have since flashed back to the newest OEM Alltel, as I too am an Alltel Agent. When I get some time, I will flash back to yours and report on a couple of things that could improve it, as this is the only other Alltel rom i'd use besides the stock one. Also, does the rev a, and gps work well with it? Didn't have it on my device long enough to play around with it that much.

also would like to know about 6.1 for alltel touch

still pretty new to flashing roms and so on but have been doing some reading and getting close to trying something new. also looking for more reading, specifically related to alltel version please post links if you have them. main goal is to unlock gps and have fun learning about things. thanks

Whats the big idea

Please pardon my ignorance. I have tried to work out what is going on here for the last couple of months, hoping that it would finally just click. could someone please explain to me what all these ROM's are. So I have an HTC touch diamond with the standard ROM (from the last update, i think 1.9xxxxxx cant remember). With all these 'ROM' developments what more do you get out of the phone. Do you guys still use the TouchFlo 3D? What is HARD-spl? Is it worth changing the ROM? There seems to be a lot of ROM's, how do i know which is the best 1 to use? I feel like i have so many more questions, but please could someone just outline what it is all about.
please excuse my ignorance. I have tried looking it up but i still dont understand so pardon me for taking shortcuts.
Thanks

i don't see how pointing him ti the wiki will answer any of his questions. that thing is as old as the diamond itself.
ROMs are the data image on your phone. the read only memory that includes sys, xip, wm6.1 and tf3d plus all the component packages in a ppc. all the ones floating around here are tweaked and updated by people to work the way they want them to, with suggestions by the testers.
they are all basically the same.
they are based on official htc releases and updated to the latest operating bits from other devices, then shared with us.
its up to you to find what works best on your device in your locale and for your specific needs. you don't have to read entire threads, just the last few pages or from the date that the latest one was released by that cook.
hard spl is a phone condom to keep people from bricking their phone. it is required and very important. i suggest developers edition so you can flash any rom you want.
and yes, flashing a cooked rom is very worth it, but i warn you, once you start you can't stop.
i can't tell you which is the best, i do know what are my favorites, but the journey you will take finding that perfect rom is very rewarding.

thank you very much
you have answered exactly what i wanted to know.
I'll give it a look into. Oh, and 1 other thing. If I have applications installed on my phone already, i presume after putting a 'cooked ROM' on it will remove all installed applications? Wouldnt bother me too much, just my TomTom navigation is a HUGE mission to get going. I suppose im on holiday and have time to fiddle.

Everything in the Device is erased when you flash a ROM. Stuff in the Internal Storage stays the same.
By da way you can also flash Radios.
Greets.

pretty much all apps for ppc can be found in .cab form. this is for easy installation and removal. if you choose a full rom you will get all stock htc apps, but a lite rom is bare bones. keep your collection of cabs on your internal storage for quick re-installation after flashing. also keep a backup of your cabs on your pc.
glad this helps
i didn't want anyone here to tell you RTFM or link you to search page. THAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS. ha lol

ya i can relate to that. Im also quite a forum junkie and I cant stand it when people direct me to search engines. Even on my local PS3 forum people always help out. Thanks to all for your help. Much appreciated.
So if I want to flash a ROM on my phone I just have to sift through the 1's here that are available. Do you guys recommend any? ie. one's that have few problems.
Typically the rom you get with the phone is a generic one, not too fast, full of feature and there to please everybody.
A cooked rom normally strips things down or tunes the device to a specific need. some roms remove as much as they can to give you more ram. Great for those of us who browse the web.
Others load them with more features so you never want for anything.
Others are generic but more upto date. The problem with official roms is they are updated and then go into testing for months and months then get released.
a custom rom will take updated drivers from other devices (like the HD) and place them into our roms with around a weeks testing or less. so we get them sooner. This does have its drawbacks.
A custom rom can be less stable than an official one. but you can get lucky. Duttys 3.6b is a good mix. Its faster than the stock rom, has more features but more memory as the rubbish is removed.
In the past 2 days I have learnt how to cook my own rom, which is the dream situation. I get rid of everything I dont want like Cyberon, transcriber, ringtones and other stuff. SO I have loads of storage free but also add in the software I use the most.
I now have the fastest rom I have ever used and its perfect beacause its tailor made by me, for me. Its really not that hard.

Verizon? GPS? are you sure?

So im getting a vogue today because my q died on me last night. I started out looking for a 6.1 update because i believe mine comes with wm6 and now i see all this stuff about cooked roms. WOW, never had these kind of choices with the q9c. Anyway can anyone tell me what would be the best rom for a Verizon vogue?
Looking at Stability,GPS,Ability to type without stylus, and 6.1 and/or a 3d gui included as major factors.
I seen the other thread but i cant tell if it says that rom has gps or not, this would be my first htc and my first foray into handheld gps.
Thanks guys
So here's the deal - search this forum and ppcgeeks.com for unlocker first. Then upgrade your radio. Then flash a custom rom. You will need to read all instructions. It's not as easy as plug and go. About 4 steps total. Maybe 15 mins of reading. NSFANs rom is highly recommeneded and I've tried them all. You will also need to run aGPS program also found in these forums. Just search the threads and your phone will be better than any iphone, etc.
Recommend some reading....

Telstra Apps on Cooked Rom???

I work for Telstra and have been a wm follower for quite some time. However the rom released with the Telstra HTC HD has been butchered to say the least. The weather tab is gone and has been replaced by 4 different Telstra Tabs. The rom has telstra branding all over which is annoying and it also has a few known issues with lag and glitches. I like to for my good customers to have a cooked rom put on but they including myself miss out on things like foxtel on mobile and the bigpond portal which comes in handy some times.
So my question is is there a sepperate app that can be put on to allow foxtel or is there some sort of work around.
I know this question is only aimed at aussie users but any input would greatly be appreciated.
hey mate,
Yeah i had to same problem when i got my telstra hd.. hated it! so i have flashed it but would love to have the foxtel shortcuts in start. Im sure some fellas here could extract certain things if you provide them with a link to the official telstra rom..
if not i could try but aint guranteing anything! lol
i've never actually dumped my rom just got the phone out of the box the first day it came out and flashed half hour later so if someone does have a telstra rom post link please. I'd be willing to donate to whoever can extract.
well i guess theres nothing on this than.
Load the 15 tab cab
Guys, this has been discussed before. Simplest option is to load the 15 tab cab, it removes 99% of the Bigpond and Telstra stuff and gives you back the weather etc
that is a fix yes however the rom itself still has a number of issues and call me odd but i like having dutty's rom's on my phone. having searched on the blackstone forum i couldn't find anything. a link would be great.
My phone was bought for me by my employer so I don't want to muck around too much with things in case I stuff something up?
Will installing a new ROM void my warranty? Is this 15 Tab addon involve flashing?
All I want to do is get rid of all the Telstra crap and have my weather tab back. Should I just install the generic ROM update off the official website to keep my warranty?
adding a new theme will not void your warranty. If you do want to mucj around with the rom make sure you dump your telstra rom first so you can always go back to it.
This link may help you
Have a look through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483199
At post 45 you will find a cab you can download on custom ROMs like Dutty etc.
Cheers
Telstra
Hi all not to sure how this 15 tabs goes ... gotta test it my self but i did find a cab install that called touch flo 3d for hd that installs on any ppc phone and when i installed it on my HD it restored the eather and stocks tabs and also the customising option while keeping the telstra stuff as well ... this is not the esult I wanted but it sounds like the one you guys need and you dont need to reflash, one thing though this is a pretty big file and it takes a wile to install so be patient ... dunno who developed it but thaks to that guy or gal who ever they are cheers. get the file from here - http://rapidshare.com/files/194374786/TF3D_HD.CAB.html

Brand new to WM and I need help please

Hi guys,
I have recently just purchased AT&T Tilt 2 and it is my first HTC as well as my first WM phone. Prior to this purchase, I have been using kids phone like sony ericsson walkman and stuff like that. I was wondering, what are some apps that is a MUST HAVE for the rhodium? What apps can I download to make my tilt 2 run more smoothly? What can i do to make it run more smoothly? Also, What is HARD SPL? and what is flashing?
Thanks in advance for all inputs!!
I cant wait till i get my tilt 2, delivery should take about a week.
Cheers
Welcome to the windows party!
How do you know if you need to speed it up if you don't even have it yet! At least experience it first hand...
HardSPL is a tool that allows you to flash ROMs to your phone that AT&T didn't supply (Such as a ROM direct from HTC, or a custom rom written by one of the great people here at XDA). Without HardSPL, the only ROM that you can apply to your Tilt2 would be from AT&T.
Must have apps depend on your interests. Some people might like a certain app while others could care less for it. There is a lot out there, and thankfully there is now the App Store that you can browse apps yourself and see what is out there. Look through different roms as well and see the apps that people include there. And feel free to search to your hearts content, using the site and using google. There is a lot of information out there.
As for just getting started here, visit the WIKI page for the Rhodium over at wiki.xda-developers.com as it is a great getting started site. Also tilt2.blownfuze.org is a nice place to get started as well with your new phone.
Jason
hi myrandex, thank you very much for the reply. I have been obsessed over this phone for a few months now and finally saved enough money to purchase one. So i have been reading a little bit about this phone and noticed a general consensus about it having lags and stuff so thats why i asked about apps to make it more smooth.
Sorry as I am complete new and ignorant to WM ... but is the benefit of flashing ROMs to your phone and what exactly does it do? and what is the difference between flashing ROMs and the ROMs that AT&T supplied?
And as for the apps, i know their are tons of apps out there suited for different people and different needs. But i was wondering if there is some apps that are generally appreciated by rhodium users and are considered a 'must haves' for every rhodium user. I remember reader about some apps that allows you to run your rhodium with lesser lag? Im not too sure.
And again, thank you very much for the inputs!
I am very happy and excited to join the WM community hehe. Just cant wait to get my hands on my tilt 2.
Cheers
I am just like you...
you could start here for the basics....
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FAQ
gives a lot of info...
then in the ROM development thread.. start with the one for the noobs.. its a sticky..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
try and get as much info from here as possible.. then do your flashing..
good luck..
i too am new to WM, but i would say get use to your phone first before flashing. Once you flash, there might be bugs on the ROM that the chef (person who created the ROM) created and will need updates. Some ROM might clash with some apps and vice versa.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/
Awesome site to find apps.
I suggest the following thread for software you should get: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550973&highlight=facebook&page=1
Hope that helps.

Just got my HTC Tilt 2 and need some help!

Okay so for Christmas I got the HTC Tilt 2 with WM6.5 on the AT&T network. Its a great phone but I want to make it better. Through some google searches and what not I found this site and knew i had to join anyway....
Okay so one think I am desperately looking for is a flash player, mainly so I can watch youtube videos. I tried Adobe Flash Lite but it didnt work and the youtube mobile app didn't work either. So anyway know of any good flash player?
Another thing is this is my first smart phone my last phone (some samsung thing) could barely call and text people so im still learning the ropes with this thing and have therefore never edited anything on my phone. So a basic description of like what exactly a ROM is and Flashing a ROM. Also is a skin for TF3D just a skin or is it like I guess what you call a ROM? Then the Radio I am almost sure when it says "Flash a Radio" its not talking about the FM AM kind is it?
Also I have seen some pretty sweet skins but I dont plan on changing my skin every week so I am looking for just an amazing skin! So if you know any sleek, modern, colorful, simplistic, clean skins a quick link would be great!
Bah! While I am asking all these questions can someone please explain why the HTC Tilt 2 (or any HTC phone for that matter) fall under the "Rhodium" category and what relation does it have to the phone.
Again just trying to familiarize myself with what I am doing before i do this so called "Flashing".
Also any basic info that may help a person like me.
Again thanks in advanced for the help looking forward to being more part of this community!
Congrats on getting the device. You'll either love it or hate it...
Re: Flash player
The new Pocket IE browser supports built in flash. I recall there's another browser that does as well, but I can't remember. Skyfire? Someone else should be able to come up with the name...
Re: definition of ROM and Radio
Suggest you to read about them in the wiki. ROM is your device's firmware. Radio is the software that controls your cellular reception and GPS.
Skin for TF3D does not equal ROM. Essentially it's a theme. Before installing themes, make sure the theme is made for your version of manila. But if it's a cab file, you can simply uninstall to reverse any changes.
Re: the name of your device
The Tilt2 is the same as HTC Touch Pro2. Rhodium is HTC's code name for this family of devices. The "Tilt" name is just AT&T's branding.

So, I got this phone back in September. This was also my first smartphone. I read and read through all the tutorials here on ROMs, radios, flashing, and registry tweaks. The answers to the majority of your questions are in the FAQs/XDA-Wiki.
HTC YouTube App: I think there's a fix available here on XDA. I think itt has something to do with editting the connection settings. You might want to search for that using the search function of the forum.
ROM (flashing): think of it as like upgrading your PC from XP to Vista or Vista to 7.
TF3D (aka Manila or Sense): a UI (user interface) it's sort of a skin on top of Windows Mobile. Since WM is old and appearance hasn't improved that much, HTC implemented this UI to cover up some flaws of WM.
Radio-ROM: No, that's not the FM Radio. It's a software thing that handles the phone capabilities of the phone (the Tilt2 is a PDA/phone).
(Changing) Themes: There's a lot of themes out there to suit our personalities! Go look! Besides, when you get addicted to flashing, you'll get used to changing things and setting things up over and over again!
Rhodium: (I just completed a Chemistry course; I never knew this was an element on the Periodic Table!) HTC code name of the Touch Pro2 and Tilt2.
Feel free to PM me if you need any help. Like I said, it's also my first smartphone, and I would have to say I learned a lot since I first got it (pretty recently). So I would know what you're experiencing right now.

Yes, Skyfire has full flash support and is very fast because everything goes through SkyfireLab servers. However, video playback quality will be horrible (especially YouTube!).
I just remembered, if you go to m.youtube.com in Opera Mobile Browser and you press on a video, the video will play in the HTC Video Player. So, it's not really playing in the browser; it's like you're downloading the video into your Tilt2.
Ah ok cool. Yea I have skyfire I forgot it did flash but the resolution is a bit fuzzy. Pretty sure I will love it just as soon as I figure out what in the world im doing! Since I love customizing and tweaking things which is the main reason I didnt go with an iPhone that and the full QWERTY keyboard.
I guess I shall read the wiki/faq
Welcome to forums
You had a great gift for Xmas!!
I assume you still have the stock ROM, which I personally think it´s crap...
I would recommend to install a cooked ROM from this great site!
Onalmost any cooked ROM you have the youtube app so you can see videos
Have a deep read on the Rhodium Wiki so you start to familiarize with all that you can do
Good luck and don´t forget to vote!
Yea love the phone but yes I still have the Stock ROM (hey I know what I am talking about now!) yes it is crap. Not liking the fact that it constantly stays at 74% RAM.
Oh you just reminded me abotu another question of mine.
How do I get rid of all the freakin trail ware that came pre-loaded on this phone! I think I read in multiple places most good ROMS should get rid of that.

LOL I think every ROM here gets rid of that crapware!
Ok good because it keeps me up at night just knowing that its on my phone >
Ok cool just read the Wiki found a list of ROMs that look great > just 2 possible more questions
1) Ok so it says I should back up my phone completely before flashing which makes sense. But to where? I have my conacts and stuff on Microsoft MyPhone but Im pretty sure my apps and everything else isnt on there. Do i Just copy all the phones files and paste them somewhere on my computer?
2) Just incase something goes horribly wrong is there a Hard Reset on the phone that No matter what the phone will go back to factory reset. Even after flashing?
There is a YouTube app included on the Tilt 2. It is hidden from the Start Menu by default. If you open File Manager and browse to the Windows directory, you will find YouTube there. Once you launch it for the first time, it should also be referenced in the Start Menu, or at least in the "All Programs" list option in the TF3D Programs tab. If not, you can easily COPY the youtube.lnk file from the Windows directory to Windows\Start Meny\Programs and it will show up.
The app is clean and tight, and supports the native controls of the phone (eg, the volume rocker controls volume).
I cant seem to find it I browsed the programs list and there was no YouTube Program unless its called something else.
Anyway as posted abotu still have 2 questions:
1) Ok so it says I should back up my phone completely before flashing which makes sense. But to where? I have my conacts and stuff on Microsoft MyPhone but Im pretty sure my apps and everything else isnt on there. Do i Just copy all the phones files and paste them somewhere on my computer?

1. If you have the .cabs of your apps, save them onto your PC (I have a designated folder for all my cabs, worth over 400MB!). After you flash, you're going to have to re-install them (automatically or manually, depending on if you use Sashimi, Sprite, Seven, or UC_setup [UC is only possible if it is supported by the ROM]).
2. If you flashed, your stock ROM has been overwritten, so if you hard reset, it will flash to the factory defaults that is in the flashed ROM. To go back to stock, you will need to flash back to the stock ROM, which you should find in the link posted in the above post.
Oh ok thanks for all the answers appriciate it I think I might do it this weekend if i get the time.
First off, welcome.
Next before you do ANYTHING read then re-read any and all wiki's and tutorials on the Rhodium. Learn your device inside and out FIRST before attempting to make tweaks or rom changes. If you don't read then re-read, your Christmas present can become a pretty paperweight -aka- bricking your device.
pIE and Skyfire both have Flash capabilities.
The Rhodium IS cpabale of being used as a radio, but you need to install the right cab file...again read.
That being said, a radio usually refers to the part of the phone that receives a signal so you can use it as a phone. Don't mess with THAT radio until you have read and re-read the wiki's and tutorials.
Flashing a rom means to change your operating system to a "cooked" one...one made using a windows mobile base, but specially tweaked by someone here at xda. These cooked roms cannot be flashed without first unlocking your phone. Again READ or you can brick it. Also know that flashing a cooked rom has the potential to void any warranty you have...so back up your stock rom before attempting a rom flash. It is also good to have this back up in the event that you don't like a cooked rom you have installed.
There is a great thread that lists cab files to some really good applications, which will customize your device even more. You can also create your own ringtones, and tweak the device. Again, before any major installations or registry tweaks I strongly urge you to learn all you can first, by reading the wiki's and tutorials.
I have been with xda since my wizard came out a few years ago, and I have seen far too many eager "noobs" brick their devices.
I have only had my rhodium for a month. I am still learning my device. I still have a stock rom because I am not yet comfortable with my knowledge of the Rhodium. The stock rom blows by comparison to the cooked roms, but until I am comfortable with my device, I am happy to remain stock until I learn all I need to.
Once you learn your device, you will need to join Flashers Anonymous...because like most of us here, our phones become really fun toys with pretty much unlimited possiblities...so again, welcome...and read, read, read.
