GPRS connected but stop at "Locating..." - P3600 ROM Development

Hello All,
First of all, I'm sorry if I open new thread. I already tried to search similar problem here but could find anything. Btw, I'm still new to Windows Mobile platform.
I've got problem with GPRS.
First GPRS connection is very slow (compared to after Hard reset), and after connected, Internet Explorer shows "Locating..." on status bar. Then message box appears "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
All applications also could not access internet via GPRS.
I guess that DNS is not properly configured during connection.
I found two workaround solutions currently:
- Use Work connection, instead of ISP Internet (Setting -> Connection -> Advanced -> Select Network -> "Connect internet using "Work""). This solution is not really stable.
- Hard reset solve the problem. Last option which is very bad.
- Does anybody have similar problem? Does anybody know how to fix?
- How to find like "ipconfig" in Windows?
If somebody knows link / reference with similar problem, please kindly provide it.
I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Best regards,
TwoAce
ROM: FInixNOver 3.1.1 -> Wow ROM!
Radio: 1.38.00.11

goto start-settings- tab connections - wireless lan
then goto tab power mode, and put slider to "best performance"
press ok.
it works for me.

Hello stormyb,
May I know what is the correlation between GPRS and Wireless LAN?
Do you also have problem with not working ISP Internet connection?
Thanks.

TwoAce

Have you tried to re-run the Network Wizard to see if it will rebuild your settings for you? I've had a few occasions when I've needed to do this, and it sets things straight.
I don't see the correlation between the Wi-Fi and GPRS either, but stormyb might know something we don't.

I get negative result on what stormyb suggested.
Thanks a lot for your input!
SuperSport, I already tried, too before and get negative result.
Thanks for your input.
This is what I did:
1. Remove All Connections setting (both Internet and Work).
2. "Enable Auto Configuration" on Connection Setup
3. Shutdown
4. Turn on and receive notification about empty connection.
5. Create manually Internet setting on Connections (I created manually because Ukraine is not on the list of Connection Setup.
6. Check via Internet Explorer and receive negative result
7. Workaround solution -> Create manually Work setting on Connection and redirect all connection to Work. Works perfectly!
Did I miss something here?
I wonder how to check network configuration (like ipconfig in Windows desktop).
Best regards,
TwoAce

Btw, I just read some articles.
Is HTC Connection Setup the same as Network Wizard?

As far as I know, they do the same thing, but Network Wizard is older. I have to use the HTC Network Wizard to get the correct settings for my network. HTC Connection Setup does not work for me. I just checked HTC Network Wizard, and found it has WellCOM listed under Ukraine. Is that your network? If so, you might try installing Network Wizard and see if that helps. It can be uninstalled if it's no good.

sorry my mistake, i thought you were talking about wireless lan,... but for that you have to do what i typed before.
gprs just works fine by me. i used the connection wizzard which came with the rom

No problem, I was really hoping you had a new trick up your sleeve that we didn't know about.

I'm with MTS / UMC provider.
My current HTC Connection Setup also has Welcomm listed under Ukraine.
I'm still lucky that I have workaround solution. If not, I'm already crazy.
Thanks SuperSport and stormyb! If you have any idea later, please let me know.
I really appreciate for your reply.

nope, sorry, i am not a genius....
i'm more reading this forum and learning instead of giving my knowledge. everything i wanted to know is on this forum....
so i spent much time searching.....i need a new search button...
BTW: Twoace: i see You use: Radio: 1.38.00.11
maybe if you upgrade your radio rom ?
You can find radiorom here:
http://trinityguides.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38&Itemid=66

Yes, I know I'm using 1.38.00.11.
Among 3 of 4 Radio version, unfortunately only 1.38.00.11 works with USSD support (e.g. *101# to check balance).
I haven't tried 1.46.00.11. Will try it in the weekend and report.

Damn GPRS sometimes works and sometimes doesn't!!!!!!!

Aaahhhhhhhhhhh
Can anyone help please?
I am running a PDA2K with i-mate 1.4 roms and radio 1.13.
Sometimes after a telephone call my GPRS fails to connect.
As I have Smartner push email on my phone this is a REAL pain and means I need to reset my device in order to re-establish GPRS and hence email.
THIS HAPPNES 4-8 TIMES A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas for a fix out there please?
Cheers.
Robin
I've got this problem too. But i don't know how to make it work correctly!
Every time i need to reconnect the GPRS.
And i realy doesn't like it!!!
Try this chaps. I have applied the registry tweak and now I keep GPRS on all the time.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Just change it from 0 to 1.
(GPRS connection name) is, of course, the name of your GPRS connection, and I'm not sure if that GUID is the same on
every machine or not, but I only had about 5 GUIDs under Providers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

This kinda sounds familiar to when I was last using my PDA2K about 6 months ago.
Okay.
HOW do I make this change please?
I have no idea how to do it?
Cheers.
Robin
Dude you need a PPC registry editor. I use EdReg.
Very similar to a normal windows registry editor.
Fatzzz
I have found something like that there: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Providers\(GPRS Connevtion name)
But there is no key named "Always on"!!...
Well you have got further than I have.
I download PHM Registry Edit.
I opened KKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then Comm and the only 2 options that start with a C under there are:-
Cellular Line and CXPort?????????
Is it something I am doing wrong????

Try ConnMgr!
NOPE.
Nothing.
Now I am getting really worried.
Either I am doing something very wrong or some of my setup is shot to peices.
And yet apart from this disconnect issue the phone is working fine!!!!!!
Robin
Okay.
It DOES help to check one of the check boxes asking for the kind of data I am looking for............. Dohhhhh
Well I found it under Microsoft.
I Have the following:-
Vodafone Internet
Vodafone MMS
Vodafone WAP and
Vodafone WAP CSD
NOTHING that says GPRS?
Any more ideas?
Cheers.

GPRS problem
From another post someone indicated that in the new rom build its a problem with the caller ID program, and that downgrading this will help the issue:
Here is a step by step instruction:
1. Download the older version of caller-id from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
and transfer it over to your device. Any directory is OK. I used ActiveSync to put it into the My Documents folder.
2. Remove the file IA_CD-Startup.exe from \Windows\Startup on your device.
3. Rename iacontacts.dll to something else (e.g. old-iacontacts.dll). This file is in the \Windows directory of your device but is hidden. However you can rename it using your PC. Open Windows explorer, and navigate to Mobile Device>My PocketPC>Windows.
4. Rename displayCID.dll to something else (e.g. old-displayCID.dll). Access it via your PC the same as for the previous step.
5. Soft reset
6. Run the CAB file on the device - just tap on it.
7. Soft reset.
That should do it.
Hope that helps someone, I have downgraded to the 1.22 rom which does not have this issue, but I am considering trying to upgrade to 1.40 and try this as a workaround to the gprs not able to reconnect issue, except after a soft reset or flight mode on/off cycle...
Many thanks.
I am off on holiday tomorrow so don't want to do anything that I cannot repare very quickly in case I have no phone while I am away.
I will give this a try on my return.
If anyone else tries this and is succesful please let us know.
Cheers.

GPRS Problems and caller Display
I too have been having problems with GPRS connecting once and then not again until a soft-reset or turning the phone off - on top of which caller display was slow and would often hang. (This is on an Alpine) I have succesfully downgraded the caller-id app and the GPRS problems have completely disappeared - on top of which, the app responds quicker, does not hang at all, and responds quicker on an incoming call. All in all, a result!
One note of caution - I had a password on my machine, and after renaming the files and doing a soft reset (as per instructions above) my Alpine would not restart. I had to to a hard reset! if you have a password on yr machine, disable it before you do the downgrade. The GPRS issue was really my only problem with my XDA, and now I'm a happy bunny.
Im just had to install this. Will see if it will be ok. I'll let you know.
I installed yesterday.
Seems to be working a treat.
EXCELLENT.
Many thanks for all the help.

Problem connecting to the GPRS, 3G, etc. Bad Radio?

I am using radio 1.38 since upgrading to Black 1.2. I've noticed that even with the Cingular WAB settings (cabs in another thread), it does not connect. I open PIE and click a page. It initiates a GPRS connection but never connects. Keeps saying "connecting to:" media net, ISP, whatever, but doesn't connect.
Am I missing something? Seems all the settings in connections is right. ISP = isp.cinglar and WAP = wap.cingular and all the passwords are entered. Could it be the radio? All calls are OK however.
Thanks for any help.
BTW, if the radio is bad, can I downgrade to radio 1.34? I am at 1.30OLIpro.
Suggest you try the settings from somewhere else. Walshieu's program has the settings for cingular medianet, give that a shot??
The .cab file posted has been known NOT to work and may have done something to ballz up the connections??

i tried the program but same problem. can it be a bad radio if i can make calls but can't connect to GPRS? or is must be something else?
Uninstall ALL your software and try it without. If your GPRS works then its probably the 3rd party stuff.
Same problem since day 1

I´m just piggyback this thread, I´ve had exactly the same problem since last December when I got my 8525. I´ve posted in different forums but no one was able to provide a clue, actually I´m offering a reward for the one that can solve this problem for me. Is not the device itself because I´ve tried with 2 or 3 different ones and the behavior is the same. I hope we can get a hand on this.

Need help!

I just recieved my HTC P3300 yesterday
and the thing DOESNT go online
its connected to my home wifi network yet when I use Pocket IE it simply says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings."
WTF?
Can I not use wifi on this smartphone? What am I doing wrong, and please feel free to flame me, I'm new to all this so I really need helpful opinions.

Hi,
If you tried to connect with your router, do you used the same script (WPA, ...) for this? Do you entered the password for your WiFi-network? Please let us know, what you´ve done to get access via WiFi.
There was WPA-PSK encryption on my network at first. Then I removed it, connected to the network again, still gave me the same error.

E-Mail Problem After Upgrading 8525 to WM6

I upgraded my Cingular 8525 to WM6 (specifically this one: RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3_1_.57.502.1_6275_1.48.00.00_108-ATT-MR3_Ship.exe). Now, when I am connected to my PC via USB cable, and have an ActiveSync connection, it can't check my e-mail via AT&T MEdiaNet. If I'm disconnected, it works just fine.
When I try to connect to MEdiaNet, I get a message that says "Error Syncronizing", then a popup that says "Cannot connect with current connection settings."
I'm using ActiveSync 4.5.0 (build 5096). In File->Connection Settings, I have checked "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop". Still no good.
AT&T's tech support has been of no help. It worked before I upgraded from the most recent official AT&T ROM to WM6, so I'm assuming there's some setting that's different, and I just don't know what it is.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me, please?
I also had this problem. It only started after I had set up internet sharing. I have currently got Schap's latest rom running. I have been able to get around the issue by setting up a bluetooth relationship with laptop, connecting to laptop, open ActiveSync on phone, menu, connect via bluetooth. Works fine like this.
Got a reply in another forum that solved the problem:
"On the Connection Settings screen there is an option for "This computer connects to?". What is yours set to?
Mine was set to Automatic and would not allow data connections. Once I changed it to Internet it allowed my 8525 to maintain a data connection via 3G when plugged in."
Upgrading to WM6
I am thinking about doing the same thing. Any tips for the upgrade process? Are you happy with the version you flashed to?
If you have checked the box to allow wireless connections to this device when connected to the desktop under connection settings in Activesync then that may well be the problem. Have had that problem with a number of ROMs

Before you upgrade any ROM or radio, the most important thing to do is read, read, read. There are some excellent resources available that will guide you through the process. Most important, as all the resources will tell you, is to install a program called "Hard SPL", a.k.a. Olipro. It reportedly goes a long way toward preventing problems when flashing the ROM. Best of all, like so many other wonderful tools for our HTC phones, it's free!
I'm happy with the version I used, but there is now a slightly updated one available. I had troubles with the battery life with radio version 1.48.00, so I changed to 1.50, which is working better. WM6 is a significant improvement over WM5, in my opinion. Faster, more stable, HTML e-mail, and more. Plus, you can always go back to WM5 if you don't like it.
Good luck!

I suggest reading the upgrade guide at www.mrvanx.org
Be sure to flash HardSPLv7 from Olipro
Yeah, I am really happy with having flashed my device. Once you do it, you can always redo it. Give something a try and see if you like it, then check other threads to see if you may want to try something else. Be sure you get the most recent version of whatever you select.

Help! WiFi problems

Hi.
Had my TP2 for 3 weeks now and it is an awesome phone apart from trying to use wifi.
When I turn on wifi on my TP2 it finds my wireless network but I have to type my network key each time (v. annoying - any fixes/registry tweaks for this?). Though I get 'connected' when I then open Skyfire, Opera or IE (ensuring they were already closed before turning wifi on) I cannot surf the web. Does anyone know any reason for this and how I can fix it?
When comparing BSSID and MAC settings in wireless LAN on my old TyTN II (wifi worked) to TP2 these settings are different. Shouldn't they be the same and why are they different?
Any further info. I need to provide for anyone to assist me with this?
Thanks.
what's your ROM version?
