New Official Bell Rom - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

At the following URL,
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=87&cid=16&mid=285&carrier=Bell Mobility
you can download a "Maintanence Release" which was posted on the 18th. According to the .doc, this seems to correct a few bugs I've experianced myself. I haven't yet installed it myself.

Thanks for finding this, I updated my phone. No differences for me since my phone was working fine before the update with the 1.17 rom w/ 1.59.10 radio.
Btw, where do you see the changes? I checked the readme but didn't see any changelogs.

Included in the zip you downloaded there was a Word .doc file (along with the executable) that specified what major changes there were. It included instructions on how to install it. Other than the instructions, it says,
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some of the primary enhancements included in this software:
• Correction to device radio to prevent hardware lockup when receiving Push Email and/or Data during a voice call.
• Correction to Bluetooth operation regarding the need to re-activate Bluetooth when the device goes into a suspend state such as “Deep Sleep” mode.
• Phase in of a Store Front solution into the Extended ROM that will prevent the accidental removal of network based program(s) for the Program folder that are consider to be default software.
• Modification to the device user Agent to ensure correct operation (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) HTC-6900-MR1.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have that lockup issue while on the phone at least once a week (due to automatic data polling stuff I have setup), and my friend always has that bluetooth issue. I'm not yet ready to format my device, so I haven't updated yet...

Ill check it out! Thanks alot for this, only thing, is this for Bell or Bell mobility (canada)?? Since im on the bell mobility network from Ontario, is this the ROM upgrade for the Bell from Canada? Just making sure!
JP

Works for me so far, but i haven't done much with it other then 1 phone call.

Bell Mobility from Canada.... I was not aware that there was another provider named Bell...
I've heard Southern Bell, but not just Bell....

I can confirm for ME, I miss alot of calls (doesnt ring) with the 1.59.10a radio.

So far so good
Works fine for me as well. Upgrade was flawless.

Your phone is set to "poll" THE towers at a 5 seconds interval. Missed calls can result because in 5 seconds, your friend may hear 4 rings and hang up and your phone has not even ring!
Using the hack below, change the slot recycle index to 1 from 2 (poll the towers at 2.5 seconds)
and most of your missed calls are gone!
Read this for further details of the ##778# hack

Is it network, WM6, or the unit problem?

The problem is one of the most annoying ones you can have: it appears only from time to time and you don't know when and even when it does you don't notice.
Simply my phone is not accessible for others even it shows full range and so on. The message "...the phone is switched off...". This problem occurs in as far as I remember 3 releases of ROMS (full, vanillas, etc). The radio ROM was also changed. I don't remember having such issue in early WM6 or in original 2005.
Since it's not related directly to any of the releases I post it as a new thread.
Now I have 3 options:
1. Downgrade to 2005
2. Throw the unit through the window, wait until end of contract and buy an iPhone
3. Try to fight with T-Mobile UK - which is not really an option since I just recovered from fighting with Orange for over a month
Does any of you experienced such problem?
Any known issues with downgrading to 2005 like ISPL required before flashing original ROM?
Any suggestions?

Well, I got the answer - couldn't wait and did the downgrade using original ROM. If anyone interested it went without problems. No ISPL needed. Connected, fired-up the exe file and worked OK.
I'll see how about the availability problem.
Ok, seems that it's only me having the conversation ;o)
I apologize for the thread location - it doesn't seem to be related strictly to WM6 anymore as I...
...installed WM5 and did some tests:
(I have voice mail switched off)
- Call waiting enabled = no calls allowed when GPRS active
- Call waiting disabled = no calls when transferring data (large file) but received when no transfer
- Used W660i SonyEricsson handset - could receive calls regardless of GPRS activity
Rang T-Mobile tech support where they told me that this is network feature that when internet connection is active no calls are allowed and since my voicemail is turned off all callers get message that my phone is switched off. In the light of GPRS specification and my tests this is a bull****.
Now I'm asking anyone on UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk and who wants to help - please do such test. Just try to call your number from different phone when opening a web-page.
This is pretty important to me - I need internet on the move and don't want to get rid of my MDA.
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
I'm on T-Mobile UK too and I ran some tests myself and found that you are absolutely correct. When you transfer data you cannot receive phone calls.
I've got an O2 device with me I can do some more tests on and I'll also try and borrow my Wife's Samsung and test that too. I'll post my findings here.
Cheers
Alex
ok, i've just tested this on an O2 3G device and there was no problem, next to try a none windows mobile t-mobile phone.
seems this problem has been around for while and on other networks.
http://www.freenfo.net/mobile/archive/index-t-64022.html
ok, final test and conclusion.
I tested the same o2 phone as above but in a NON 3g area (i.e. gprs only) and found the exact same issue.
conclusion: this seems to affect all types of phone and multiple networks but only when using gprs NOT 3g.
I'm suprised we havent heard more about this problem.
cheers
Alex
Thank you Alex very much for your help.
I did some research on the topic last night and found the same info as guys in the thread your linked. It must be that T-Mobile UK operates in NOM-2, which allows to suspend GPRS session only when no data is transferred. When packets are transmitted the device doesn't 'see' incoming calls as it's 'busy' with dealing with the packets. NOM-1 is 'able' to encapsulate information about incoming call into one of the packets and the device is notified about - so it can react, suspend the transmission and pick up the call.
The fact is that our MDA/Artemis uses Class B of GPRS which doesn't allow simultaneous CDA/GPRS at the same time. Even if it can suspend active data transfer it is the network that has to support that feature.
What I must notice is that I had lot more problems wiht this when I was using WM6. It seems that there were some packets transmitted by the system or something. I had my mail set to check servers every 15 mins at the beginning but lately ony once an hour or two. Other soft that could transmit anything was Weather module from SPB or Touch. Now when I'm on WM5 and was checking the issue during loading a page I was unavailable but as soon as a page was completely loaded my phone was accessible back.
My surprise is that if the 'issue' seems to be quite normal and there is nothing to do about it why I couldn't find any info about it here. Doesn't it affect anyone of our community?
I may be wrong with the WM6 expirience but still. If WM6 works fine in that respect it must have happened that someone missed a call when browsing the net.
i hadnt noticed to be honest

Did you try ringing your phone when it was loading a long page or downloading a file?
TBH I think I've noticed it just as much on WM6 as I did (or didn't) on WM5, I think I put these odd voice mails turning up down to weird WM issues! Now I know the truth though.
Obv. there isn't a lot we can do about this and I'm not prepared to turn off my Windows Live Mail or my direct push. I think we just have to wait until our contracts are up for renewal and get over to a 3G device - I'm liking the look of the Touch Cruise myself, or the Touch Dual if I want that keyboard back and by the time my contract is up I think they should be on T-Mob UK.
does the same thing happen in Edge areas or as that rolls out will the problem disappear?
I'm not sure about how EDGE works but the problem affects GPRS rather than 3G due to the fact that GPRS and the incoming call are submitted alongside each other and 3G is seperate. I don't think t-mob uk have edge running yet so I can't test, perhpas some else can test for us.
Bro.. My first 3rd party ROM is the Touch 3.0.. and yes.. my connnection did go off once a while (no bars as well).. that was kinda irritating. I have to go to connection manager and toggle my data connection or something like that, before my phone will get the GSM signal.
And yea.. the original WM5 and WM6 have no such issues.. I wonder if this is because of the new radio version..

Tmobile Dash ROM without TMobile software or bootscreen?

I have the Tmobile dash and want to run AT&T on it without having all the junky tmobile software (ESPECIALLY THE STARTUP ANIMATION). Is there a Rom that could be used to have software with AT&T stuff on it?
Just wanted to ask. Friend wants this phone but with AT&T stuff on it.

None that I know of. All of the ROMs besides T-Mo officials are gonna display either Rogers or HTC screens. Nothing with AT&T since AT&T doesn't carry the Excalibur.
HTC screen would work. just so long as not tmobile. will have to see what is a good rom to use that does not have the myfaves junk or the other stuff. any good recommendations on roms that work good for it?
Thanks for the help.

Try out Ricky's v23 ROM. It has a lot of programs on it, but they're *useful*. Also, it's Windows Mobile 6.1, which is hot hot hot.

There's also some steps you can also perform to add custom startup splash screens, Now granted it will still show either the tmobile or htc first screen (depending on the rom you have) and then the windows mobile screen after that , but the 3rd screen, where applicable can be changed to whatever 320 X240 .gif image and the startup and shutdown sounds can also be changed too. So in other words, although you will have the HTC screen if you chooses kavana's or rick's ROM you can still create a custom At&t ( or find one) .gif image to be displayed at startup. Here's the link for instructions for that.

Read the stickys on upgrading. Jocky made a bypass for offical ROMs and 6.1 doesnt even need it
Got this all setup for my Tmobile Wing. Whohoo. Now looking at the Dash on trying to setup the AT&T settings for Internet and MMS, etc.
Any clues? Easy to do on Wing with touchscreen and more options to choose from.
I have it updated with the HTC 1.33.422.1 (Worldwide English, WM6) ROM. (Didn't want the Tmobile one)
Thanks,
Flandrel

Have you tried the AT&T website? T-Mobile's site has the settings for MMS and Internet, so AT&T's may have the same.
They're also posted in the wiki. I've been looking for someone to test them out to see if they actually work with AT&T.

Found the settings in the wiki. Gonna try them out and will let you know.

#
Start > Messaging > Scroll to MMS > Menu > Settings > MMSC Settings
* Name is AT&T MMS
* MMSC is http://mmsc.cingular.com
* Data connection is The Internet
* Gateway is WAP 2.0 Gateway
* IP Address is 66.209.11.32
* Port is 80
* Encoding is Binary (DO NOT SEE THIS OPTION ANYWHERE)
* Click "done"
#
Then in Send Options
* Priority is normal
* Validity period is maximum (DO NOT SEE THIS AREA AT ALL)
* Deffered Delivery is immediate (DO NOT SEE THIS AREA AT ALL)
* Click "done"
#
Then in Receive Options (DO NOT SEE THIS AREA AT ALL)

* Allowed message types: informational, advertisement, auto
These settings from the Wiki are for the "From AT&T's settings support page for the Motorola Q Global"
Unless the MotoQ has alternate settings you can choose.
I even did not see alot of those settings using the HTC ROM for the Excalibur either.

Well if you live in LA Tmobile cell service is not the greatest great service for texting though. that's why I use AT&T. They were alot better when they were Cingular. AT&T are very arrogant, JMO.

1. Tmobile in my area SUCKS!! Always has, always will. Customer service was rotten to the core. Even the local representatives were arrogant and not very helpful.
2. Tmobile told me before when I kept losing signal or had no signal that it was my phone. I unlocked it and kept Tmobile SIM card in and still had issues. Tried AT&T SIM card in it and got full complete signal. Tmobile didn't know what they were talking about.
3. AT&T has always been good to me. Not to mention I get a corporate discount of 25% off my bill and accessories. None of this with Tmobile.
4. Tmobile never, never would give any type of deal on phones. Had to beg and plead and they still wouldn't. With AT&T I got 4 phones (2 samsung, LG, and my Tilt) totaling $1500 for $50 after rebates, etc. Could not pass this deal up.
5. Tmobile been promising for last year and half for 3G. Still don't have it up and if they do it is just in the beginning stages. That was a condition I had when I signed up. Talked to local rep and even called customer service when I signed up in May 2007. They told me by end of 2007 that 3G would be available. It is just now getting there if even that.
6. But I would still like to be able to use my Wing as a backup in case. So still trying settings out to get it to work, even though it will never have 3G on it.

Telus Vogue Update finally here!

So Aaron McCarthy discovered a new Vogue rom for Telus users (I REPEAT: TELUS ONLY!!!). It was at one of the known IP addresses which HTC has used. It was accidentally leaked or opened for a tester, I suppose. It's also seemingly no longer available... I get "Directory Listing Denied" when I follow the link now. So, of course I've uploaded my copy to rapidshare. Back up any important files on your phone and then enjoy:
http://rapidshare.com/files/1282900...4350H_3.41.00_Ship_withPPSTPatch1.20.exe.html
It'll be easy to install, just run the EXE on your windows XP/Vista computer, connect your vogue with Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Center when the program prompts you to do so, and follow the on-screen instructions. It took me approximately 15 minutes to do this. Add five for letting the phone customize itself.
I also did some messing with it to get everything working. It does not fully function out of box (which is probably why it's not actually released yet).
For me, the steps that got the GPS and Internet to work:
-Dial *22803 , 1 (for English), 1 (program your handset). Wait for reset.
-Install Google Maps and a registry editor.
-Search for a registry key called GPSMODE and change it's dword value from 2 to 4. This may not be necessary, but it worked for me.
<EDIT>Registry change is definitely not necessary, I've tried it both ways with no different effect. What this setting does might be explained better in the next post.</EDIT>
-Soft reset.
-Run Google Maps and any other freeware, no problem.
I'm certain that some GPS programs will require initialization/tweaks, and I'd bet that most of those have already been examined elsewhere in this forum. Anyway the GPS is seemingly solid and accurate. I placed it next to a handheld garmin unit and speed, lattitude, longitude were matched on both devices over a half-hour trip. It will certainly NOT work indoors.
As for Rev.A, I honestly cannot tell you anything about it. I'm in a CDMA only area for the next 3 weeks.
Thanks again to Aaron McCarthy for discovering the Rom and letting us know so that I could copy it before we got locked out. Here's the thread he started : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2385096
by setting GPSMode to 4 you disable the GPS. Not the best idea....
GPSMode 1 = ONLY pure GPS
GPSMode 2 = GPS + aGPS
GPSMode 4 = aGPS only
Got it installed without any issues. However Google maps and the Telus Navigator programs don't seem to be able to find the GPS... Well, to be more precise, googlemaps doesn't give an error. It just sits there seeking satellites. The Telus NAV doesn't get past the startup screen. Any suggestions?
WM6.1 is working fine on my phone but is it possible that I actually don't have the built in GPS even though it is a Telus HTC Touch?

It has been known since a while that all Vogues phones (or CDMA Touch) have the GPS hardware built in. It is just not activated by Telus yet.
This new ROM should be released officially by Telus soon in order to let users have GPS and better performance.

Also, does this ROM improve Bluetooth and device overall performance?

Thanks for this ROM. Can't be more easy to upgrade a ROM.
GPS is working fine. It took several try and a very clear sky (no tree) to make first connexion. It was so slow to connect that I suspect AGPS (cellular tower triangulation assist) is not working.
At 3 bars of reception, in EVDO REV A zone, I get a DL speed of 150 to 400kb/s which is pretty lame and just a bit better than before rev A.
One problem:
When clicking on status icons on the top bar (volume, battery, etc.), it used to display the control directly. Now it displays an intermediate screen repeating those icons but in a larger mode. It is buggy because it doesn't display message icons if I previously clicked Dismiss. Then I can't go to my messages.
In Start, Settings, System, TouchFLO, there is no setting to remove this screen.
I tried HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar->Enable=0 without success.
Is it something that comes with WM6.1?
Is it Telus ROM specific?
Do Sprint official ROM got the same problem?
Any reg to remove this?
That is too funny

If you go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406320&page=2 and go to post #14 you can see the guide to improving GPS locks on the telus rom. I mean DRASTICALLY. From initally loading the rom I went from getting 4-5 locks maybe after a few minutes on a cold GPS start then once I changed all the settings and did a soft reset I was getting 6 to 7 satellite locks down in my basement. Pretty impressive
It's not as complicated as it seems to be in the post I made. Pretty straight forward actually and I would recommend it to anyone who wants better GPS reception
In regards to Rev A speeds. I'm in London ontario so would think there would be rev A in the area but I dont get any better download speeds. I still download around 600-800 kbps. Which is really good enough for me. I dont know if rev A actually was supposed to increase your download speed or if it improved upload speeds making Voip easier and allowing you to have data and phone stuff going on at the same time. All I know is my internet speed didnt change but Rev A was enabled.

Every time, before using this, an already established data connexion is needed BEFORE looking for GPS satellite. The GPS will not establish the connection if it's not there. A simple solution is to open Google map and move the map up to a download is required BEFORE making the GPS satellite connexion.

Looks like the official Telus rom is on HTC's site now.
Yep - and it appears to be identical to the one referenced in this thread from 3 weeks ago. That's kind of a disappointment considering how much trouble the tech-naive user is going to have getting the gps to work and getting their data connection back after flashing.

2 weeks ago I sent a support ticket to HTC stating that the GPS fix is difficult to get, mainly because all GPS assisted features (aGPS) are disabled by default in the radio (can't be fixed by a simple registry tweak). I even pointed them to one solution of many (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406320&page=2 post #14). Then no correction and not even a mention in the documentation.
I just can't imagine how many phone calls they will get from upgraders complaining that the GPS can't find satellites after 5 minutes...

No GPS Verizon XV6900 (Vogue)

Oh kay... I really hope I don't get yelled at for not searching or something but I can't find anything and I seriously need help. I have the 3.42.50(I think) radio and OMJ's Custom Verizon Rom and I just can't get a lock. I've tried thousands of tutorials and haven't had any luck. On my current flash I've used this tutorial, and haven't gotten a lock. I don't know what I'm doing wrong... I'm pretty desperate. ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance...
First, to make sure you have the updated radio (which you probably do) go to start/settings/system/Device Information and check there to make sure.
I wish I had had such a detailed set of instructions to follow when I was setting up my US Cellular Vogue. I had to patch together instructions from 3 different sources to make it work. Of course it works, yours doesn't. Are you outside when you are trying to get at least your initial lock. When I first lock on I generally have to be outside, after it is once locked on I can go inside and it will retain a lock.
Check for my Tips thread, basic info on setting it up is there.

When I first lock on I generally have to be outside, after it is once locked on I can go inside and it will retain a lock.

oh kay... sorry for the delayed response... anyway... i do have the updated radio and i dont think i've ever tried it outside... :-\ i have tried it standing right next to a glass door... also, should i be messing with the baud rate at all while trying to get a lock?... im not sure wat to do after i open GPS Viewer... i set the Com port to 4 and then i open GPS... is that all i have to do?...
and... can u send me a link to those tips TheChampJT? im bad at navigating forums... :-\
Have you ever run the MR1 on your phone? This would block third party apps from accessing your gps. If this is the case, you need to down grade to a none gps rom, the upgrade.

I might have... would a radio version be able to tell u if this is my problem?... my radio is currently 3.42.50... I did notice my radio version changed after the update so i just used cokes rom to flash it back and started using another rom...
If it came with verizon WM 6.1 or you flashed verizon WM 6.1 and let costumizations run, then you found your problem. Maybe if you tell use what you have done with it since you got it, it might be easier to diagnos.

I used this reported "Leaked Official Verizon Rom". IT WORKS!
ftp://ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Verizon/RUU_Vogue_VZW_WWE_3.14.605.1_Radio_3.37.77_Ship.exe
You run it and allow it to customize and wahla...updated WM6.1 and the GPS works!
Gps has to be configured to use Com 4.
Use HTC Titan Quick GPS to updated satellite empiricals (GPS position data). I get cold fixes in 15 seconds indoors! Download it from: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4914&d=1201747040
You will have to do a "Over the Air" reprogram via *228, I think its option 2.
I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE NEW ROM AND EASY AS PIE TO INSTALL!
Darn GPS is pretty dam close. I get 29foot accuracy 98.5% of the time!
ozzzzzzz,
did you change the location setting under phone settings? I forgot to check this and finally figured to look there.
Go to settings / personal / phone-----then hit services and select settings for location. Make sure that 911 is not selected. May be simple issue with that.
GL!
aGPS on Verison w\Radio 3.37.78 and NFSFAN's Cusom WM6.5

KCDale99 Posted this, couple weeks ago, it still works people.!!!!!!!!........
I justreceived a new XV6900 in the mail today when mine suffered a hardwarefailure of some sort. The new phone came with the newest ROM whichincludes the 3.37.78 radio. Of course I turn on the phone, and updatesrun. This disabled the GPS even after loading a custom ROM. the aGPSfix would not work, and gps Viewer couldn't even find one satellite.
Ifigured this was just like an old, 'let the customizations run'problem. So I followed the steps found here with one exception:
<!-- m -->http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?titl ... ERIZON_GPS<!-- m -->
Onstep 4, I ran the RUU_Vogue_VZW_WWE_3.14.605.1_Radio_3.37.78_ShipOfficial ROM from Verizon. I did NOT let customizations run. I thenloaded my custom ROM. This puts me on the official Verizon radio.
After that, the aGPS fix worked like a charm and GPS is working.
Iknow this is a rehash of other issuew, but I wanted to let everyoneknow that the newest phones shipping are disabling GPS all together.
THIS STILL WORKS PEOPLE!!!!!!! been at this for a week now with absolutely no luck until now this guy has it.................. 5-31-09
I used NFSFAN's custom ROM WM6.5v8 for my custom rom.
the only other thing i had to do is when i was done installing ROM's my phone would not authenticate on Verizon network, so instead of calling them i use the online MY Verison to activate my phone to a old Verizon i760 then re-activated my xv6900 online ordered (verizon) a week ago !!! I have tried every fix, etc... until this combo... except i never went to the leaked verizon radio been to the bell, us cellular, alltel, verzon, etc... and back again..... now it works...... with the fix this guy posted......QPST ip info fom the fix page, links all seem to work!
Again********THIS STILL WORKS PEOPLE
XV6900 CAME STOCK ABOUT A WEEK AGO!!!
YOur first link is to reply to another thread, your second link takes me to the wiki main page, so no information on both whatsoever....
No GPS in Google maps
I have done all the upgrades.... done the sprint ROM to the VZW to now running NSFANS WM6.1 for VZW 1.15.
I get Sat locks in the GPS Viewer but not in Google Maps... anyone have any ideas?

I'm with this guy... Except, I'm worse off. I can't even get a lock in GPS Viewer. It finds the satellites, but does not lock.
I did whole unlock 0.40 to Sprint ROM to unlock 2.31 to VZW ROM, then straight to WM6.5V12, then I did the aGPS hack with QPST, and even tried cody's fix in his FAQ thread. I spent all yesterday morning trying to get GPS working, and I've got nothing to show for it. I'm so f'n pissed right now!

Nope. The only time I let customizations run was when I installed WM6.5.
I did the Coke .40, Sprint (no-run), Coke 2.31, Verizon (no-run), NSFANS WM6.5 (run) and then his two verizon cabs and finished with the aGPS hack with QPST. I used the Telus fix, but should I have used a different one?
I was able to get GPS (with locks after a few minutes outside). I don't think I am getting aGPS, though.
Doesn't aGPS help when you are moving or inside? I think that you would get faster locks (especially the first time) if aGPS is working.
BTW, that routine killed my voice line and SMS with a #8899 notification. Verizon networking is still working.
Todd you'll have to call Verizon and have them re-authorize your phone. The same thing happened to me when I tried that fix.

I will. That office is closed until Sunday. While I am waiting I am trying other methods and options.
I am currently on a Coke .40, Verizon ROM 3.14.605.1 Radio 3.37.77 (no-cust), Coke 2.31, Verizon ROM 3.14.605.1 Radio 3.37.77 (w/cust) followed by QuickGPS. This lets me see satellites and gets me fully back on a Verizon radio. (I will still have to call #8899 when their office opens)
Can anyone match up ROM versions with the MR1, MR2 designations? Is 3.37.78 MR1?

ATT Port to Verizon S20 G981V Questions

I switched jobs and my work let me keep the S20 5G G981V that was assigned to me. I got it SIM unlocked and ported over to my family's Verizon account. At my new job, the entire warehouse is a cell deadzone but wifi is amazing. I have noticed that wifi calling is not even available for me to use. From what I gather, that's because I'm using the ATT image on the Verizon network. Is flashing the Verizon firmware through ODIN my best bet to getting wifi calling back, or should I go the root and custom ROM route? I've been rooting phones for over 10 years so I'm not new to the process. I went to the Verizon store and they told me I was ****e out of luck. Thanks!!!

I have a similar situation: I'm trying to get VZW Wi-Fi calling to work on an unlocked international S20+ (SM-G986B). Verizon told me they allow WI-Fi calling on BYOD equipment and that my account is properly provisioned. However:
There is no evidence of any Wi-Fi calling settings anywhere in the phone's UI.
System logs (e.g., logcat | grep -e UNWFC -e EPDG) show lots of info about not being registered for Wi-Fi calling.
IMS Settings show that VoLTE is provisioned, but not HD Voice. VoLTE clearly works.
Samsung's Wi-Fi calling stack is supposed to be pretty universal these days, and to a large extent, it delivers: when I put in a T-Mobile SIM, Wi-Fi calling comes up right away. So it seems that the Wi-Fi calling stack on my phone isn't completely out to lunch. But Verizon's Wi-Fi calling implementation appears to not be so cut and dry.
Last night I popped open a SM-G986U (supposedly universal carrier-unlocked US Snapdragon S20+) firmware image in an attempt to understand what Verizon is doing for their Wi-Fi calling, and it appears I opened a can of worms.. I found a whole lot of Verizon-specific content in there that I don't have.

Just based on their names, a quick glance at the packages baked into system.img suggests the following are reasonably likely to be associated with Wi-Fi calling:
VZWAPNLib_VZW.apk
VZWAPNService_sku.ap
VzwImsApiService.apk
AdvancedCalling.apk
The big question is AdvancedCalling.apk?! Is this some sort of proprietary implementation of Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE?! Is it possible that Wi-Fi calling on Verizon isn't possible using the Samsung Unified Wi-Fi Calling app? And is there special APN config that needs to get pushed to my phone to enable EPDG connectivity required for Wi-Fi calling?
There's a whole lot in the CSC images (optics.img and prism.img) too. Of particular note, prism.img's imsupdate.json seems to define some sort of E911 IMS configuration. I wouldn't be suprised if that was a prerequiste for WI-Fi calling.
I also find interesting the declaration of packages allowed during power saving and emergency modes (suggesting these packages are necessary for core functionality like calling):

Ideally, we need some input here from someone that has VZW Wi-Fi calling up and running on a rooted device (and who is willing to do a bit of experimentation!) that can help us understand what components are involved/required. I don't know if there is anything to block you from installing the universal or VZW-specific firmware on your device, though based on what I remember from past reading on the topic it seems likely to be a large step in the right direction; please confirm for yourslef. I'm in a bit tougher spot than you because flashing the VZW firmware simply isn't an option on my Exynos device. I also don't want any unneeded extra VZW bloat on my system, but based on what I've seen it looks like I'll have to merge at least part of the VZW CSC into my ROM image.
Speaking of rooting and custom ROMs, have you managed to get the bootloader unlocked? As I understand, this is a nontrivial effort for US-based Snapdragon models and currently only available as a commercial unlocking service. The feedback seems pretty good but it appears that the service is limited to a handful of models running particular bootloader revisions.
Wow that's a lot of info! Thank you for that I tried installing the U firmware but it kept failing in Odin; I'm going to try the V tonight and see if it will work.
For unlocking the bootloader, I haven't done that yet. If I do, I will go all the way and load a custom ROM; I'm trying to avoid that for now UNLESS we know that wifi calling works on those custom ROMs, like Lineage or AOSP, etc...

I guess it's not surprising they block installation of the universal firmware on a carrier locked model. Though that being the case, flashing Verizon firmware on an AT&T branded phone doesn't sound much more promising. How did that go?
My expectation is that going towards the likes of Lineage or even AOSP are going to take you further from a working Wi-Fi calling setup on a network with a non-standard implementation like Verizon.
BTW, do you by chance know what package is used to make the ipsec connection to the EPDG? I'm getting the impression that com.ipsec.service is an obsolete component that no longer exists on our phones. Interestingly though, my phone has /system/bin/charon and a handful of supporting libraries; these are components of the excellent, industrial-strength package strongSwan and could be responsible for that connection, though if that's the case, I still don't understand how it gets configured.
I wasn't able to get the link for the other firmware to work last night; I'm going to try again today.
For the EPDG, that part is over my head. I like rooting phones but I've never developed and made my own ROM's before.
Just got it downloaded, tried through ODIN and it failed. Is it because my bootloader isn't locked? I've never used ODIN with a phone that wasn't already unlocked.

In LTE, voice communication is carried over IP using trusted transport formed over the carrier's LTE network. Wi-Fi calling uses an analogous scheme, but since you are using a direct internet connection rather than the carrier's own trusted network connection, an IPsec VPN tunnel is instead used to create the trusted transport. The ePDG (evolved packet data gateway) is the device that terminates that VPN connection on the carrier end, and acts as the entry point into the carrier network for Wi-Fi calling; here is a nice little primer on ePDGs and IPsec. If your phone is unable to establish the requisite VPN tunnel, for example because the VPN software is not installed on your phone, there is precisely zero chance of Wi-Fi calling working. That's why I'm so interested in understanding what package is used to form the VPN connection. It's not clear to me what all the strongSwan instance I found in the ROM image is used for: it could be used for one or more of (a) the built in VPN client available on the Connections page, (b) the KNOX VPN client, or (c) Wi-Fi calling.
This is my first attempt at making a ROM. The quality and selection of custom ROMs seems to have been steadily decreasing in recent years, and I've never been able to find exactly what I was looking for out of the box anyway. Moreover, most ROM developers aggressively upgrade the base image of their ROMs which is exactly the opposite of the approach I'm looking for: I'd much rather stay on Android 10 for the foreseeable future rather than deal with 11 or (very soon) 12 and deal with compatibility issues with Magisk and all my favorite modules.
Overall, it's been a painful experience. Between the low quality of the tools and Samsung's countless security measures, it has resulted in a lot of hair pulling; I even ended up rolling my own kitchen. And now there's this Wi-Fi calling problem. I see plenty of posts complaining about difficulties with the feature on Verizon, but no one explaining how they solved it.

I have pretty much no experience with the locked bootloader phones, but it sure wouldn't surprise me if carrier issued devices are keyed in such a way so that they won't accept the universal firmware or firmware of another carrier.
Bumping this thread. Verizon can't flash their software for me. They referred me to Geek Squad and they said they can't. From what I've read online about ODIN, it can work, but you legit need to crack the combination of things to get it to work. Since my bootloader is locked, I'm pretty sure I need the patched version of ODIN (?). I tried the bootloader version that matches mine but with the Verizon firmware and it fails, giving an error message of a modem mismatch. I grabbed the CP file from the ATT version and used that with instead of the Verizon CP file and this time I got a re-partition error message, which I don't get because I don't have the "ReParition" box selected within ODIN. There has got to be a way to get the Verizon firmware on this phone without having to unlock my bootloader (I did try and apparently my phone isn't able to be unlocked yet).
Did you ever get Wi-Fi calling working or at least get your bootloader unlocked? I finally got Wi-Fi calling working on my unlocked SM-G986B, and if you're able to bootloader unlock/root, I'd imagine you could do something similar.
