Orb no longer works after 6.1 upgrade - HTC Excalibur

I upgraded my phone from 5.x to 6.1 (Kavana Rom) tonight. I'm using the latest version of Kavana's rom, TCMP, the WM5 .dlls, and the wmvplugin stuff. However when I try to open a file from Orb it just warns me that a file with that name already exisist, opens TCMP, and after a few moments tells me that it "could not open URL".
I'm able to see the content at test.orb.com, so I don't know if the issue is with the phone or my installation of Orb. Or if it's a port setting issue, etc.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? And if so how did you resolve it?
Thanks.

Not sure if this is your problem, but I too have never been able to get TCPMP to work with ORB. The only two programs that i got to work with ORB were windows media player and pocket player. Try them and see if you get different results.
BTW: Pocket Player is better than WMP since it has the equializer function

Same Problem Here

I have the exact same problem here, research is now in motion for a fix. I see that you have made the TCPM player the defaul player on your mobile device, but Orb will no longer come in (play) like it did with the other ROM's. I went back to the wmp, now it works fine, but I still want the TCPMP again to be my default player when viewing Orb..........! The PudgeDaddy will come up with a fix, I just know he will..........!

Got The Fix!
Ok, go to Options> Settings> Select Page> File Assiciation> and uncheck (Windows Media Video files (WM,WMV), you have the (wmv and wma codecs already installed in the windows directory). You will also have to uncheck (HTTP protocol), click OK and Orb will now act as the default video player, when viewing Orb media content...............!

One down, one to go
Alright! My problem with being unable to connect was pretty simple. All I had to do was restart Orb and soft reset my device. Now Orb streams like a champ.
However I'm wondering if there's a way to do .mkv files in orb with predefined Audio/Sub options. Right now I'm just muxing out what I don't want, but has anyone been able to tell either their player or their machine to only stream these streams from the container?

Ill be honest. i did get TCPMP to work as well. , but seeing all 3 players that work ( tcpmp, WMP and PocketPlayer) i'd have to say pocket player is the best one of the 3 when it comes to rendering the video with the least amount of video lag/skipping

PocketPlayer!

The PudgeDaddy, my main man, which PocketPlayer version are you talking about here, because Orb and the SlingBox go together like white on rice, like a hand and glove, with Orb, I got all my music and ALL my other media content direct from my home PC anywhere on the planet where I can get a Internet connection. (T-Mobile/Sprint, Get Married)! Those two are a must got to have on ALL my mobile devices, so holla back..............!

Version 3.6

Once Tmobile/AT&T get some new mobiles with faster processors etc with 3G speeds will Orb take the place of Slingbox? I would imagine it would at least bring down the price.

Playing Videos over Network with Media Player

Hi All.
Just a quick one.
I am tying to play some Video files over my network on my Jasjam with Media Player. The files are on my pc.
It keeps comming up with the error message "system cannot find the file specified file". I can't use tcmp player because it is a windows media codec encoded video.
My network is fine, resco file explorer sees the network no worries but when i click on the file I get the same error message.
Tcmp will play files over the network so i know it works.
I have been looking everywhere but just keep running into brick walls.
Is there a reg edit to fix this problem.
Thanks for your help.
If however i have somehow missed this please please please, no FLAMING

i dont flame aussies .... you need to move back to the JasJam ROM from IMATE... the new one has the built in player....
Hi.
LOL thanks for that.
I just can't go back to the original Imate Rom i love the lvsw one to much.
Is Imates a different version of media player to the one used in LVSW's rom.
Is there a way to get this built in player.
If not surely, there must be another way. I can't be the first person who wants this.
Cheers.
Travis
P.S. Just incase i change my mind is the rom you speek of just the one that can be downloaded from Imates Website.
Hey.
So sorry to be a pain but has anyone got any idea how to fix this little problem.
I really need to be able to run these videos.
Or has someone figured out a way to run windows media content through TCMP.
Thanks again
tried orb? Streams any video fine over wmp.

you speak about playing movies over the network. Did you try to copy a movie to your pda and play it locally. What happens then?

The problem is that files are like over 100meg each and take too long to transfer to the Phone.
That being said I did transfer one and it worked ok. So the problem must lie somewhere else.
MMMMM very frustrating.

youtube mobile problem

When I click on a link in youtube mobile the streaming application is launched, it says connecting for a few seconds and then it says "failed to find network".
I run Black Shadow.
does anyone else have the same problem. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Check the other thread
I'm about to reply there
about to reply where?
I have a similar problem, i get the "failed to connect" error. Under options i've set it to connect via media net and the internet and still not working.
I know i could install realplayer but then it doesn't auto open, i have to save the file then open it.
the Custel Cingular apps cab is causing the problem. do a hard reset and it works fine. A simple uninstall doesn't work. It would be great if someone could step in and tell us how to modify the registry to have the file type associations change to use the streaming player. I like the cingular apps, but it's nice to actually stream the videos (Maxim Mobile too)
Having the same problem as well.. i've been digging around the registry, but I haven't figured it out yet....
Wow thats crazy. If you click the link on m.youtube.com you get the error, but if you type it into manually into streaming media it works fine!
I used the disable proxy in the proxy manager folder and then it worked fine.
That is using Custel 2.5. And MediaNet.

Could you go into detail where the proxy manager folder is located? Thanks!
its located in a folder under program files but that doesn't seem to fix the problem the main issue is the file association of 3gp to realplayer. i know in sktools you can edit these file associations i haven't tried it yet though.
when I click a link.. it says loading and and does nothing.. realplayer or nothing pops up at all....
should it be using realplayer or tcmp player? i'm gonna try to reset and see what happens..
soft reset, and nothing happened...
let me know what everyone thinks.
I am running the new Elf Rom. Youtube loads right into Streaming Video..not problem.

Using Custel 2.5, and it opens in something called "Streaming Media for Pocket PC" version 2.10h (build 314.713) it looks like it's a HTC application that replaced Windows Media Player.
And when I posted about the proxy disable, that fixed the problem for me, it had just kept looping back to the opening page in m.youtube until I disabled the proxy.
i think the issue is that some people don't run cingular video and are fine because the streaming video app pulls up like it should and plays the video. For some of us that have cingular video realplayer is set to default 3gp so it tries to open it but for some reason doesn't like to play it. In order to fix the problem for those that have cingular video we have to resolve the default app for 3gp video back to the streaming media program or use tcpmp as it can open 3gp video.
Streaming Media Cab {YouTube}
Does anybody have the Htc streaming media cab, not the one in the Touch. I need the one, that comes in most wm6 rom! YouTube a must have!
I am running black dymond 3.5 and have the problem described in the first post. I click the link in youtube -- watch video and it loads windows media player and then says connecting and then after sometime it says failed to find network and then back to the youtube page again.
I am not using cingular video nor do I have real player.
I am using wifi connection as I don;'t have unlimited data plan.

amen to that. i just installed tcpmp and changed file associations and its still not working or pointing to tcpmp. this is a must have for me also.
For Mobile YouTube Videos "RTSP Url" only
No, the TCPMP/player will not work this time, You need a player that will host rtsp, [example] rtsp://rtsp.youtube.com/youtube/videos/ect... You need a HTC streaming Media player that comes on most of the ppc wm6 ROM. That's why I looking for the cab file. Again it works like a charm on my MDA running Core 2.0, but I need the cab file for another device....!

HTC Streaming Media Player Cab Is What You Need
I have HTC Streaming Media, version v2.10 build 1025.621 on my MDA running the Core 2.0. The streaming media player will automatic open the rtsp url on http://m.youtube.com! That's the player you need. I connect to mobile youtube using wifi!

Orb with TCPMP, WMP and the 8525

Hey everyone,
I've tried searching for this in all the forums, but couldn't find a solution, so if it's already been discussed, I apologize, please just direct me to its location.
I'm trying to access my orb media from my AT&T 8525, but have been having some issues. Currently, the only way I am able to stream a playlist or a shuffle of songs is by using the real media player format within the settings in orb from the IE browser. The problem with this is, it doesn't allow for me to jump to the next track, if I didn't want to listen to the current one. So I have tried to use the Windows Media Player format in the settings, and I have ran the test.orb.com, and it plays the test file correctly. But when I try to use that format to stream to my phone, I get the error message "Could not open URL" (if I try to use TCPMP media player), or "Cannot play any items in the playlist." (if I try to use Windows Media Player as the default player). Again, when I run the tests (with either Media Player) using the Windows Media streaming format, the files play perfectly, but they just don't work when I try to listen to a list of music from my media. I've also tried adding the codecs (wma and wmv encoders) as mentioned in another forum, but that didn't help any.
Any and all help is always greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try this version of TCPMP and the attached files need to be copied in the program folder after installation. Lastly go in and click all applicable file associations inside TCPMP (only one i leave unchecked is MP3)after the installation and do a soft reset. Try ORB again and it should work! Works great for me and this was a real problem for awhile. but, just found the solution and can't remember where.
Yessssssssssssssssssssss!
OMG you people are a freakin GODSEND. I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! (In a manly sorta way ) But no seriously, I've spent over 4 hours trying to get this to work and it finally did (by doing what was mentioned above)!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank all of you so much for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm donating as soon as I get some money... lol. Thanks again everyone.
Ok so I've moved to the Kaiser (instead of the Hermes), and TCPMP was working fine in the beginning. And now, all of a sudden it stopped working. I tried a soft reset, reassigning the file associations, changing orb's settings to a different media type, and reinstalling TCPMP and the .dll's included above, but I keep getting that same "Could not open URL!" message. This has become extremely frustrating. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please help. If not, is there any other comparable media player that would work with Orb that I could try? Any and all help again is greatly appreciated. Thanks again everyone.
thanks for the props above. but, i dont own a kaiser, so i really couldn't tell you. but, i would of course suggest looking in the kaiser forums and someone there has to have it figured out.

Is windows media player supposed to be this slow?

The title is basically self explanatory... windows media player is realllllly slow. It's usually the only task running. I have the 6.1 rom. I try to play music off the home screen and it just takes forever to load! And bogs down the whole phone. Anyone else having this problem? I'd just use the media manager but I like having the music on the home screen...
well, you have to take into account the hardware you're using...these phones, yeah...not so beasty

Also take into account that it's "Windows" Media Player empathis on the Windows, lack of codec & streaming support old unrefined and just plain right lazy, i know what you mean about having the panel for quick eaze of access, but there are far better Media Players, Pocket Player choice for audio & CorePlayer "TCPMP is the free version" for Video, you can set up SmartToolKit with gadgets to allow quick access to your most wanted programs, some screen shots sorry they are old on stock WM6.
Hope this helps.

I use Pocket Player myself and of course TCPMP. But if your "slowing down" try cleaning out your Notification Que (use SKTools) I found over 1000 duplicate itmes in there and after I deleted them.. my Dash was speedy again
I also clean out the reg (bad values, old values etc) with SKTools fairly regulary now... it makes a huge difference.
Also open media player and go into options, network and change internet connection speed to wifi. Also uncheck detect connection speed, that will help speed it up if you do plan to use it instead of another media player.
stats555 please forgive me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure he's commenting about playing .mp3 as WMP is pretty useless to stream anything, so to change network settings isn't going to help regarding performance as i don't think WMP checks network unless streaming. Think his best bet is to get TCPMP for now and give it a try then get his hands on Pocket Player like the rest of us
I think Bupahs got it spot on cleaning up the notification que.

Problems with my new Tilt 2

I hope this is in the right spot!
I finally got fed up with my Fuze and I bought a Tilt 2.
I am having a couple of problems which I "think" is related to WM6.5
1) The sites that stream .mp3 will not open Windows Media Player and it tries to save it as a file instead of playing it. It looks like WMP isn't set to open .mp3 files??? Is there a fix for this?
2) I like to listen to audio from talkstreamlive.com and when I open the webpage, the list of shows is screwed up. There's no space between the list items, instead, it shows one name half on top of the line below for the whole list. I tried adjusting the screen zoom, but it makes no difference. If I fire up the Fuze which has WM6.1, all is well.
I tried searching for similar issues, but so far I haven't found anything like these.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!
Thanks
ITAdmin
Well I dont use WMP for anything anymore. I use Coreplayer and it will open up URLs and play mp3's mp4's etc.
This may be the easiest solution for you.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I installed the new version of CP and that solved one issue, so how to I make CP the default player instead of WMP? I know how to do these adjustments on desktop PC's, but these mobile devices are a new deal for me...
I also solved the screwed up display too!!
Thanks soo much for the help!
