I received a free replacement battery from T Mobile in january for my MDA Compact lll. But ever since the first full charge of the new battery, the phone still goes to zero battery power in less than 24 hours, even on standby and no use. Today, with battery freshly charged at 100%, I turned off Bluetooth, Beam and quit all running programs.
3 hours later the battery was at 88% not having used it at all, just standby. Another hour and 20 minutes later it's down to 79%! That means it's losing 20% every 4 hours or so while doing nothing. This is ridiculous, it's not even close to what the standby time is meant to be, which is somewhere over 150 hours. What am I supposed to do, would a hard reset do anything?

Try the phone in flightmode check the usage then.. Maybe try to update the radio rom of t-mobile website..

Nope. And I'm using the WM5 Rom as it came with the phone from T Mobile.
I've never tried flashing a new rom or overclocking the cpu.

Go download BatteryStatus plugin and under its settings have it display your power drain and cpu usage.
fubofo, did that, it gave me 201MHz.
Anyway, I had a breakthrough. I backed up everything to my hard drive then did a hard reset. I removed my 2GB storage card and rebooted the MDA. So now it's barebones. The battery life is awesome now. It has only gone down 15% in 19 hours on standby, which means it's definitely capable of lasting a few days.
Now I have to figure out what exactly was draining it, either a program that was on the device, or something on the storage card.

Good point. It's a sandisk 2GB. Are they known for causing battery drain?
I'm still lost on this one.
Well, it's not the storage card. After restoring my backup and replacing the storage, the battery life started depleting rapidly again. I removed the storage card, and battery still bombing. I started removing programs one by one until I was down to 2 programs, TCPMP ( used for viewing youtube videos) and Opera. I can't see that those would affect anything, and they weren't running anyway. All running programs were closed down, bluetooth off, I mean wtf, there were no programs running and the battery is going down fast. What the hell could be depleting the battery when no programs are running? Yet the battery is fine after a hard reset but before I restore my backup!

This seems strange.Yesterday after upgrading to gingerbread ( with the RUU because the OTA didn't work for me) I got a huge battery drain.Over the night I got a loose of 40% and now only 3 hours after unplugged and lost 20%.
I only took a few pictures and a phone call.
Only few apps installed since i got this rom since only yesterday.
Anybody experienced this and is there a fix?

I can confirm this.
I have also a high battery drain with ALL Android 2.3.* ROMs.
I use the recommend Radio for each ROM and I've checked the RIL to be sure the Radio is correct. But doesn't matter, current in StandBy is between 30 and 50mA.
Only if I turn off WLAN and Mobile Intenet, then I have normal values between 3 and 5mA.
With FroYo I can leave WLAN and Mobile Internet enabled and I had 3-5mA in StandBy
It could not be an application, because I've tried this with a fresh install without Google account to avoid the installation of external apps.

you'd have to edit the build.prop and change the rescan time from 15 seconds to 30, 60, 90 or 120 (or whatever you perfer the rescan intercal to be at)

Try resetting the battery stats by doing the whole charge, lead out, charge, turn off, charge etc. thing.
Also, whilst not a stock RUU I did find it took a few days for the battery drain to calm down a bit. First instal lowest was around 50mA but adfter a fe days it went down to 4-5mA.

What does that value do?
Is that the rescan value of WLAN?
The current stays high even if WLAN is off and mobile internet is on.
Only if both are disabled I get a low StandBy current.

Varies but on average I find it takes about 3 days to settle to a point where I see a consistent drain.

Unknown. It's not 100% due to GingerBread as I've only seen a handful of people complain of this issue (relatively speaking). I see more people saying how much better their battery life is after the update than saying it's poorer.
Doesn't help I know but makes me believe that this is maybe a Network / Radio issue in that the new Radio with GB does not play well with the Network. We had this a few times on the HTC Hero.
Ok...i have airplane mode on for about 2 days.in those 2 days i almost didn't use the phone and got only a 7% lose.As soon as i used the camera(recorded around 15 min) it got down to 50% .
I will test it tonight widought airplane mode on and see the resoults.Also wifi seems to a lot of battery in comparance to froyo.

I haven't noticed these problems with CM7. I got 2.5-3 hours per 1% of drain in standby using juice defender.
If you are finding that turning off data etc is fixing the problem use juice defender. Even the free version will help a lot as it will stop your phone using data willynilly and instead turn it to a periodic sync. With the paid version you can have it stop all together during certain periods or increase doing certain periods. Aka stoping at night and extra during busy hours at work.
Should be a good fix, though it is only covering up the underlying problem still.
Can't really recommend the app enough. With it my phone only uses data when I tell it to (like opening facebook app) or periodicaly to sync and check emails etc. I do use the paid version though for the extra features.
totally agree. i have been using juice defender for about a week. its been a big help. just bought the ultimate a few min ago. going to start customizing.

im using Leedroid 3.0.3 and i dont get any such battery drain..
tbh im getting a better battery life from GB than from froyo..
on standby currentwidget shows me between 4-7ma with wifi on... with a peak once in a while..and i lose abt 1 to 1.5% per hour
with wifi off i get about 3-5ma..
i dont use mobile data much so cant really comment on that..
try calibrating your battery and try changing the scan interval in the build.prop... i normally keep it at 90...
i never used any battery saving apps, so cant comment on their performance either...
go to wifi advanced settings and untick Best Wifi Performance... that also helps a lot!

The issue was not with gingerbread...I just left my phone one night with wifi turned on and lost 40%.But still when I was on Froyo wifi wouldn't loose so much battery.Now I loose almost 2-3% every 15 min if surfing the web with wifi.
And about changing the scan interval in the build.prop...How can I do that?Do I need root?
I'm also having battery problems, but mine are a little bit different, if I'm on wifi it uses between 3 to 5% with a peak now and then. if wifi is off and I'm on 3g, it's between 5 and 500 ma and you see only peaks if you check currentwidget. anyone a clue? working on ARHD 5.1.6 now, but problem was there since version 3
I have battery problems also, my battery dries after 1 day of use. For example this morning, I unplugged my phone full from the charger at 10 am. I went into town, listened to about 20 minutes of FM radio. When i stopped the radio, I still had 98% left of the battery. OK so far. After, I talked for about 5 minutes, sent 4 messages and played for about 15 minutes. I arrived home at 2 pm with 75% of battery left. That is 25% in 4 hours.
I was on 3G, but with Mobile network off. BT, WIFI, GPS off. A few days ago, I tried running the Battery Calibration app, but seen no improvements so far. My phone is routed, 2.3.3 and has Android Revolution HD 5.0 RC1 ROM .
I expected the battery not to last for long, but this is ridiculous.

I don't know if that will help, but I sometimes switch to 2G networks as HSDPA is using quite a lot the battery.
I have a DHD running 2.3.3, and it's definitely the mobile standby bit which is first in the battery use screen (33%). It was true before 2.3xx but now it's a bit more - annoying in other words.
I have to admit, having to switch to 2G networks is a bit of a pain in the *ss, so I'll check if juice defender give me some good results tomorrow and will post a feedback there.
Maybe try AR 5.1.6. + he recommended radio. It works wonders. the battery life is improved a lot...

so this is my first post and all i've done up until now was to read... i'm afraid not real solution has come up.
i have:
Leedroid 3.1.2 with the recommended radio and i ran the script for Full Wipe 1.5 and cleared the battery stats, i did a fresh install and then didnt restore from backup - just installed everything from scratch. i hoped it would be ok, but when i woke up to check the current widget log, i saw that in the middle of the night he climbed to 150mA and stayed there draining about a 1% of battery in 3-4 minutes (!!!)
what can i do? 'where is my droid power' shows only HTC Sense at about 3.8%

Battery Life - QUESTIONABLE
And here lies my problem here. Ever since I switched to the UK Firmware from Verizon's I've noticed the phones true potential and love the UK Firmware. However what is up with the terrible battery life? I've tried everything... It seems to DRAIN 1% every 5 minutes when I'm at school!!
BetterBatteryStats talks about wakelocks. I get this one sometimes called UID and have no idea what it is, and have looked for a solution but found never in ACTUAL terms I could understand. Also there's a blue bar and a red bar on the stats for those. Can someone please tell me the difference between them?
I've deleted Juice Defender as some people said it actually DRAINS your battery more. I've also heard this phone lasts sometimes 3-4 days on a FULL CHARGE?! I'd like that please! :O
Well when I'm at school I put my phones Brightness to 30%, Vibrate, and off WiFi.
I listen to Music and that seems to drain the battery ALOT more than I think it should.
Also, when playing Asphalt 6 HD, I was at 57% battery, I played for maybe under 10 minutes and had 44% LEFT!!! That's TERRIBLE!
Can someone please tell me how to make my battery last like others have it?
I also have 2X Battery installed but disabled and only showing my battery % on my taskbar up top.

If u don't use it during school then power it off. Also kill some tasks so your phone won't work hard and kill morw battery life.

I do use it during school. Sometimes as a Calculator, to text my family or if they have to call me in case of emergencies. I also game on it at lunch or listen to music when on a free period so...
And I do kill tasks all the time. It seems to just open themselves back up. Also I played Dead Space last night with 100% charge for maybe about an hour or 2 and the damn battery drained down to 55%!!!
I was on WiFi as well...

You honestly can't expect a game such as that to run on this phone and merely sip at the battery's juice. The percentage remaining when coming out of an intensive task, such as watching video or playing a game, isn't entirely accurate. Check the battery again after a few minutes of idle time, and it should be a little higher than it was before.
I use an app called Battery Defender. It's very easy to set up, and the main option is to kill the 3G data while the screen is off. You're still able to receive calls and texts and such, but the data is off, since you're not using it. That saves a lot of battery for me. You can also set it on a timed profile, where it shuts off all network connectivity during a set time.

Also I just feel I'm being mis-leaded by others then. Because I read on the android Forums people play games from 1-2 hours, stop, go to the store or mall for like 5 hours, come home, play again for another hour, and sleep and wake up with it at 7% charge or something.
Are you saying ti's normal for my battery to suck that much juice on Dead Space?
Dead Space is one of the most graphics intensive games you'll get to see in this phone. It's not Cut the Rope...

Did you wipe your battery stats before installing the rom? Let it drain to 0%, charge it without interruption? after that then you must let it drain fully and recharge too 100% without interruption again. This will "train" the battery. I have a battery calibration app if you'd like to use it
I would suggest you to do a fresh install. Wipe everything and start afresh. Don't restore anything and see what happens.

Yes I have done this. But ONCE. I haven't let it die again yet. Using Battery Defender is saving it's battery atm. Should I kill it again and let it do so?
Also for the Battery Calibration don't I have to do some weird thing with getting the phone to power on without the battery?

Thanks for your input, but I have too many things on my phone right now that I would lose. I wouldn't want to lose all my data.

Make a backup of all your data, then do a fresh install. The battery calibration app is simple, charge your phone to 100% and click calibrate. Then let it die to 0% and fully charge without any disruption..it's pretty simple

Must I make a fresh install or can I do it without a fresh install?
The battery calibration has nothing to do with a full wipe and reinstall. The fresh install is simply to fix problems that you are having, that no one else has, or doesn't have in such great force.
If you're worried about losing your data, get an app called Titanium Backup. It will allow you to backup your apps and app data to your sd card, then restore them at any time you deem necessary. There is a free version, but I would definitely recommend buying the unlock key. It makes your restores faster, and enables some specific functions that are locked out of the free version. This is my third Android phone, and the app has proven its usefulness time and time again, across each of them. It's the best way to port installed apps from phone to phone, as well.

Here's the thing. I have Titanium Backup. XD And also, I have done a Fresh Install before because I had this ROM then I switched to ICS Beta which was terrible so I fresh installed the UK Rom again and it didn't make a difference to when I had it before ICS BETA, so does that count? x.x

Well...it seemed my battery life was better on the STOCK Verizon ROM but that ROM sucks for everything else..

My battery usage is awful, right now after 7 hours its 23% , Android system is using 32 % of my battery.
I tried everything, like factory reset, flashing the rom with odin, changing the battery with new one, using apps like battery doctor, freezing system apps and so on, no matter i use the phone or not, every night 50% of battery is reducing, i removed sd card, sim card, putted the phone in flight mode, turned of wifi and gps , i really tired, please tell me should i give up and buy a new phone or there is solution for my situation and please tell me the phones with realllly goooooood battery life

Maybe is battery wrong.
There may be a hardware issue. Did you bring it to the Samsung service? You might get a replacement...
Hi All, after all possible ways to fix my P2, I am getting little angry, as thanks to help people here, I sourced full S233, and done full format and fresh installation, but still no any ringtones or sounds available, no problem, used backup form Z2, and this should be covered, media was high on battery drain too, no problem removed sd card, find out something is not right, as media gone back to normal, backing up 80gb of data a reformatting sd card, but what is wrong with sim management - hammering battery heavily, on gsam pro - showing 75 % of battery consumed by combined app CPU !!!
What is could be???? Tried sim 1 and sim 2 tray no difference. I know there is bug which keep Phone idle high, but this is nothing against sim management, anyone with any suggestions??? Many thanks..
ok, find problem, it was corrupted photos and video file on sd card. all back to normal SOT 12-13 hour per charge..
How did you identify the corrupt photo/video? I am having similar problem.

I just switched devices and transfered the content from my daily driver P2 to my spare P2 via Nandroid/TWRP.
I think I've had this problem before and that it had something to do with using airplane mode for an extended period of time.

Have you ever messed & did restore of Efs & modem ? CPU going high in screen off & SIGNAL IS OK - though no signal time going High in screen off or in screen on ?

I got a new battery a week ago, because my phone didn't turn on or charged anymore.
But my battery keeps draining. I lose around 25% in idle at night time. And around 3% every 5 minutes when I use it.
I used gsam for a few days now to see iff there are any applications that are causing the drain. So far I can't discover any.
Also when I'm using my phone the side of the power button gets hotter then the rest of my phone. While the battery and cpu both are under 40 C.
I do have android 10 and 2.1 ui from devbase rom with soldier 6.0 clean installed, tried other roms aswell, so maybe I should get back to android pie?
I also started using ex kernel with the standerd underclock option you can choose while flashing this helps a bit.
Hopefully somebody can help me out.

I have the same. I used different roms and kernels, all the same. I turn on airplane mode for the night. it helps a bit.

Thank you, this reassures me that It's just a coincidence that my battery died, and that the behavior of my phone at the moment doesn't mean it would happen again.

I do notice, that gsam says that that I am using wifi all the time. And it shows that battery usage is high when this happens.
The only thing is that I never use wifi anywhere..
I don't know if this is something to go on or just normal behavior?
