Comm Manager - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I have just switched over to Vp3g 3.62 I do love the ROM but I switched over from the windows 6.1 mobile as I was using TNT but due to lack of support and answers I have come back to WM6 till something is more stable.
My question is, is there a way to change the type of Com manager? Or does it have to be cooked onto the rom?
How can I change the dialer? and the keyboard? Or do all these have to be cooked onto the roms as well?

You can change all of these with .cab files. you can check out DiStefano's Cab Collection
Spb has some Dialers that they made
Schen also has some Nice Stuff
they got some decent keyboards at freewarepocketpc.net
just look around, make google your best friend and you should be satisfied with what you find. good luck.
p.s. if you like a specific keyboard, com mgr, dialer, from a specific rom you can allways ask for them in the rom thread. some1 will most likely provide them for you if they're not already available as add ons.
just came across this keyboard and thought it might be relevant. there's a screen in the 4th post.

Black Shadow

Check out JJ's new Rom. Black 4-Shadow. Sweet!
Based on the new touch rom. Will be released by JJ this weekend on www.4winmobile.com. JJ is still da man. Wish he wouldn't have left.
Look out... this will cause some debate on here! Mind you it does look sweet.

its not based on the new touch ROM as the Touch ROM isnt for the Hermes... just the HTC Home Plug has been ported from the HTC elf... but as i have found the 17745 Release build has its issues... so only time will tell....
looks rather nice though... like the look of the home plugin wonder if it will be ported just as an install....
Just a bit too much colour custonizration for me....
D
I've just posted a question on the "other" forums about that very thing - I didn't think it would have all the touchy feely bits in it as well Oh well...
As a matter of interest, is it hardware limitation? Is the HTCTouch a "multitouch" screen or is it just a new app? From what I've seen in the vids, it should be possibly for the hermes to do the same things...
Smiffy.
My understanding is that the look is simply the new HTC house look - with some added JJ Black-ness...
The Touch software should theoretically work with any touch screen WM device as it relies on the user swiping a finger across the screen - which we can already do with Hermes etc.
Mmm... sweet. Where can I download? NOW!!
Alright, wait until the weekend. I will have to check JJ's new HQ to see what extra will be packed. I only hope the new UI is not a huge resource hog. If not I will just stick with 3.5 for now.
It remains to be seen... but it does look very nice.
do you know what is the CE build? 5.1.x or 5.2.x? (i need it to be 5.2 so i can install my wm6 hebrew language support...that's why i havnt used JJ roms so far )
in the 4winmobile forum, he states that the os build is "official". does that mean it's 5.2 (wm6 build) without the 5.1 hex edit?
EDIT
black shadow will not be hex edit to support crackberry as WM6 is being release next week.

i dont think that's the case as was stated earlier that the today plug-in was ported from the HTC Elf, rather than the whole ROM being a HTC Touch ROM. it does look good though.

Touch Flo??

Hey people,
I have been noticing recently that the touch flo is working on on various devices, but i was wondering if it is working on the hermes yet (actually ising finger flo, not button flow)
this link shows a vid of touch flo *FULLY* working on a different device
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkwzBAuo2rQ
ive checked both web pages and i cant seem to find a definative answer.

No there isnt any ROM that works with touchflo for the hermes, only buttonflo, and that sucks I tried it once and its crap (as you know).
I searched and searched on every forum or blog or google.com whatever but no luck for the Hermes. I guess we have to wait to get our hands on the Kaiser. That supports touchflo (As far as I know. After a few adjustments)

I think the hermes is one of the best devices that HTC ever had. But the Kaiser is just a level higher..
So Kaiser will be my next device..
I don't buy it that the Hermes doesn't "support" TouchFlo. What does TouchFlo require that is so much more sophisticated than ButtonFlo?
If the dang Artemis can support it, why not Hermes.. lol

From what i understand it is somehting to do with the touch.dll, but i dont know what, why or how!!
but i do agree with you that it doesnt require any special hardware so i cant understand y it wouldnt work, but im equally sure that there is a very good reason as to why it wont work.
We need to find someone smarter than us to explain it to us!!
Exactly. Not to mention the fact that I have an app on my Hermes that does that exact little "flick and roll" thing and it works fine.
What application is that Stpete?

the new JJ rom Black Satin are based off the official release of the Dopod 838pro rom that came out this morning... which is why they werent released until this morning since they were RTM .. new build numbers...17944.0.3.1 ...

Since the ROM is for a Kaiser then no It wont work. ROMs contain more than just the OS, they have the drivers and files required for that particular device also.
Thanks for the reply. It is really a great looking ROM. I wish Dutty would make one for the Hermes.

Yes but porting from one device to another takes a little genius for all the parts to fall together, at least from my experience.

how true that is! Might be better off just installing the dutty's apps via cab. Then again why not just wait tell poorlyducky uploads his new vista themes and use them instead. I can't wait to see a Faria (any word on that Dr. ) or K rom with the Vista themes.
Dumping a ROM and cooking is still a little over my head at this point. I'll keep enjoying all the great recipes the chefs here are cooking up.
Wow!!
Damn that is a nice looking rom.
Wonder what would be required by Dutty to create a hermes version too for us less knowledgeable folk???
My Kaiser is a company owned phone so I can't play around with it and, as much is it erks me, must run the official rom. Ahhh I hate official roms they suck.

Umm, last I checked, there is at least one, perhaps two, hermes ROMs that are using the same build as the keiser ROM from Dutty, and I'm pretty sure that I've seen a cab or two that install the keiser stuff (com manager, dialer, etc) on the hermes.
Unless you are looking for a nice all-in-one package, everything is already around, just have to look for it.

This thread will tell you which ROM to choose.

HAHA that got your attention huh?
I just thought I'd start a thread for people who might be considering upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1. You should post why you like a certain rom, which features you like, and what could be better.
Since (and I am pretty sure on this) that all of the builds are based on "chunks" of the OS taken from other phone's distributions, there isn't a "hermes specific" guide to improvements that these newer OSs give the user.
So if you feel like it, post away. Hopefully if anything, this will serve as a basis for which rom to choose.
Please don't spam the thread with posts agreeing with other users. I didn't intend for this thread to be a discussion. Try not to post based off other posts, and please
DON'T QUOTE ANYONE!
This means if someone says "I like schaps because its purple and neat looking", don't post "YA IT SURE IS". Just post AGAIN stating that it is purple, as well as what else you like about it.
Reserved for future use
ROM: CRCs STABLE (v11.2; 17-Jul)
This is a great rom to use. Battery life is excellent, and my phone never hangs / crashes. (hence the stable). I like that it accepts dialer customizations (3G dialer from the kaiser for instance) without making you go through a graphic nightmare trying to get it to work.
I *have* noticed some WIFI issues however... Not being able to connect to networks that I KNOW are open. It will say you are connected, however you won't be able to transfer. This however is only a very rarely encountered issue, and usually at WIFI hotspots in restaurants and hotels. It ALWAYS works on my home network.
Rom seems on par with most when speed is considered. It is not either slow, nor exremely fast. Quick enough to do most any task with less than a 1 second wait.
I would definately recommend this rom for use by anyone who is considering their first upgrade, or anyone who wants a very useable rom with a good basic set of programs and tools.
Thank you for bringing this up
Personally, I would say CRCinAU's roms have been the benchmark for other chefs to 'match' or 'better'
These days abusalza is that chef. Again these are my personal opinion, you really NEED TO FLASH ALL THE ROMS, to find what you like and what you don't.
No one can tell me what I will like and what I won't like, as it is down to preference.
So, in other words, .... this thread is pretty useless
in here is a link to rom benchmarks (great job be veyka) to assist U:
>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Why did you post that? tell me, is there anywhere out there where there is a "consumer reports" type of ROM review?
Rom choice is.. very much what you like.
I can tell you from exp, and I have flashed almost every rom here, as im sure many other people can, that its the ONLY way to know what to use.
There isnt a bad rom, just one that isnt right for you.
since joining this community, i have flashed many roms. I have flashed almost every release during that time, it would exceed 100 roms.
now, what i have noticed is that it doesnt matter which rom i chose, i end up putting the applications on it which i like. Some of the roms have these and others do not. so really, find what it is you like, get the cabs for it, and almost all roms are the same.
there is the stability and speed of roms which is different. but with a 400mhz processor, the speed is barely noticeable unless you change the pagepool.
There is one rom that i always return to when i am away for a while, being Berds 4.31 SS
I find there is a huge difference in speed and battery drain between different WM6.1 roms.
I would personally hold up CRC and PDAcorner as the best two out there atm.
(main difference is if you like your rom vanilla or not)

well dude,
I hate to send people on wild goose chases.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415198 has a rollup on very useful stuff.
bepe's kitchen is in there download and read the entire thing.
download every hermes kitchen you can find and just start messing with stuff.. RGU's are all registry entries. modify and open xml's to see what they do. and just start poking around, eventually (3 months) you'll get a working almost stable build! Every change you make be sure to note it incase you need to go back and correct.. Also note what you did to fix stuff.
Then when you have questions PM and i'll try and help as much as i can but i'm still new.
Or search and bug the crap out of people. at least thats how i did it.
Also the Hypercore kitchen has a good manual with it.. On porting, the noob way for porting is easyportoven, otherwise search xip and sys porting and there is a nice thread on it..
The rest is just trial and error.

I don't understand why Ricky has to take down this ROM because NRG says so, the right of the ROM is that the copywrite belongs to M$, if you look @ other parts of the XDA forums you will see that more than one person will present a ROM, without being told what to do with what they have cooked, it's an artistic liscence we hold and a right to use it, modern day society cannot prevent the future....
Oh well I guess it was a sign of respect that he took it down... Oh well... I never got a chance to try it which is a bummer...
