WM 6.1 for Bell? - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Any news on a custom upgrade to WM 6.1, for HTC Touch for Bell?
Also, any idea if GPS can be available with this unit/network?
Thanks!

It works amazingly!! I am on the BEll network and have the Touch. WM 6.1, GPS, all working fine!!
The place where I downloaded the ROM is

I am sure you can find it here.
Best of luck to you.

Hey Thanks, I will try it out!
Quick question, how does the GPS works? It uses cellphone antennas???

Oh my god, this is great!!! I installed it and it works perfectly! No issues at all
However, I was not yet able to get gps signal but I guess it's just a matter of having the right conditions!
Only thing I have strange is that every time I exit a setting, I always go back to the phone (instead of the today screen). Any idea?

No .. you need to lose the bell rom in order to have gps .. no biggie really, nothing in bell rom that can't be replaced.. Bell will never give this to us.. they want us to buy navigation by the month.. Laugh when you pay your $7 data bill and enjoy using roms from other carriers with the gps...

No I don't think its possible especially after you upgrade the radio to the 3.XX. But just upgrading to WM 6.1 should be fine as I was able to go back to the stock ROM from Bell.

GOld_sprinter: Are you able to use the GPS ? were do you use it? In Montreal it does not find any GPSm should I change anything in my setting?
One more thing, do you have problems with your incoming calls? I am not able to take some calls with this ROM, even if I press on anser, it does not answer...

mletourneau, I live in Calgary and it works beautifully. I don't see why it would not work in Montreal it is based on Satellites, so you should get the same ones that I do. As for the phone call problems I have not experienced anything like that, the only issue I have is that sometimes I have to press the 'send' button twice when dialing out. I wish I could help you fix you problem but I don't have any clue where to start.
Maybe someone here can be of some assistance
Good luck buddy.

Going Back to hold radio... or rom
Hi, Any clue on how to go back to official Bell ROM?
GPS works FIne but since I am not with Sprint, I do not have access to Sprint TV or other software from Sprint Anyways...
Thanks in advance

-
go to www.ppcgeeks.com
download omj's custom bell rom
and that should solve your sprint tv etc. issue

Official bell update was released today. I'm a telus user so I have no input to give you on it but the telus update for some reason directs the telus users to the bell update WHICH doesnt work on our phone (duh)
Anyone who wants to try this and let us know if it has GPS that would be great.
download link here: http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=70&act=sd

Does the Bell update noted above enable reva or gps?? I saw that update awhile ago and never bothered because I figured it had neither.
Just to note, the rom is dated 03.19.08 in the link image.
Think I have to unlock and flash mighty soon
Carrier is Bell by the way.........

Yeah, I don't see anything about WM6.1 or anything else for this update for Bell. Looks like an old download and update to me personally.

The telus update page (when it did show the update rom information, its empty now) said it was Rev A, WM 6.1 and can only assume GPS since it included Telus navigator but that could be AGPS. That said.. because the link on the telus page downloaded the bell rom I sort of assumed that the bell one was the same. In fact I cant believe that Bell would be far behind with an update that would be the same as the telus one. I hope they release this soon. I dont want to put some cooked rom on my phone and void any warranty or anything

Warranty? lol. I never buy a phone on contract... I buy it right out. Do I get warranty..nope. And I have never needed it for anything electronic I own. And ya know what it has never done me wrong. All that money wasted if I did. If you do't know something is wrong with it in the first 30 days. something is wrong with you or how you treat your electronics. If my phone craps out I get a new one. Heck every year I buy a new one. Right now I have the HTC touch. It rocks. It runs smooth and I am using omj's custom bell rom. It runs faster smoother and generates less heat. Love it. Only flaw I don't have Musicstore on it... Bell offers it for the touch. And I loved it.
Your Phone is only as good as it's operator. My phone is my everything and I can do whatever I want on it. Just like a computer.

anyone tried to install the bell update on a telus touch?!?

I did the update ... everything seems to be working, phone, software, but I can't seem to connect to internet ?

It can be different to give a quantitative comparison, as I didn't keep much data on available memory, etc. In theory, it is a more mature build, because the build number of Windows Mobile has rev'd a few points. This should help to keep memory leakage down ... should. The new ROM seems more responsive. If you are happy with the Rogers ROM, there probably isn't much, if any reason to move to the HTC ROM. I decided to experiment and try the new HTC ROM, because I wanted to see if Voice Control 1.6 worked any differently on this latest ROM, not because I was dissatisfied with the Rogers ROM.
i flashed from the rogers to the new htc rom and i have used this rom for about a week and with the htc rom my fone has frozen up 4 times, where i have to remove the battery to restart my fone. i have never had the rogers rom freeze up on me b4 and i used it for about a month. also to me it seems like the htc rom leaks out memory. with the rogers rom i would restart my fone every other day and the memory would not go lower than 19,000kb but with the htc rom if i dont restart it two days it would be at about 17,000 kb. am i the only one experiencing this? + im thinking twice about flashing back to the rogers rom, wat do u guys suggest?
I'm using the latest HTC build. I've used the Rogers rom, and it's loads better than the t-mobile one, but the branding just pissed me off. The htc is much better in that area, and it's definately quick and responsive.
I have two phones, one i use for work and one for testing.
I have tested all the rom but i'm usung now for about 1/2 year the Russian rom, custumized and flashed with the latest radio version.
I'm usung my phone a lot with all the possibilities you have and no problem at all.
Believe me, it is even so fast as the new rom.
But, so has everybody his own feeling..
The Superior ROM
I have two devices also, I use one for testing. The thing that stands out with me is the radio on the Rogers ROM. In the area where I live, I find the Rogers radio, by far superior and the strongest. I'm now back to testing the T-Mobile ROM, with the Rogers radio installed in the T-Mobile ROM. Thanks to jhow99 Fash Tool.zip, since I installed the Rogers radio in the T-Mobile ROM, I notice for some reason it speeds the T-Mobile ROM up and the reboot loop the loop reboot problem has vanish. I now also have a fix to stop the T-Moble default blue screen from coming back every time after you soft reset your device. I will continue to test the T-mobile ROM in this current state and if the T-Mobile Rom continue to run at the speeds it doing now, I might have to say that the T-Mobile ROM is by far superior to all the ROM's. I will remind you, my testing is not yet completed, I'm really shocked about my findings thus far with the T-Mobile ROM........!

RAM - LEAKS
I didn't do any testing along these lines with the Rogers ROM. I do have the latest HTC ROM installed and last night, before I went to bed, I soft-reset my phone. Available memory after the soft-reset is around 18,100. I have less available memory than most, because I use Voice Command. When I checked it this AM, available RAM had dropped to 16,300 - presumably while doing nothing as I slept, 1,800 of ram had leaked.
STABILITY - FREEZE
I thought that it might have been me doing different things. For example, using the Rogers ROM, I rarely enabled Bluetooth Activesync or WiFi, but things have changed and I find myself using WiFi much more and Activesync with my home PC exclusively with Bluetooth. Where I am going with this is that I thought, because of the change in usage patters, I was experiencing some instability ... but this new HTC ROM does seem to freeze up much more often than the Rogers ROM. In fact, I don't recall that the Rogers ROM had ever frozen up on me. It has been right around one full week with the new HTC ROM and I know that I have frozen ... probably five times.

absolutely the ROGERS, first of all, cuz u cannot use 'z' when u find contacts if u choose the latest HTC ROM, Really inconvenient, hm?
additionally, Under HTC ROM, when I press start and scroll down to find the shortcut I want, it breezed for about 1~3s frequently.I'v no idea why this happened. But it seldom occurs when I use the ROGERS ROM.
So I prefer the ROGERS ROM!
With the Rogers Rom I was having to reboot sometimes twice daily. I'm having to reboot much less with the HTC rom. I'd go with the HTC rom.

Would you mind elaborating on the circumstances that required the reboot? I don't intend to sound as if I am denying your experience, I just haven't experienced the same, so I am trying to figure out why that might be the case.
This newest HTC ROM showed lots of promise, but as a few others have experienced, unexpected freezes has me heading back to the Rogers ROM.
Of course, some have experienced unexpected freezes with the Rogers ROM and moving to the latest HTC ROM helped to eliminate the problems the experienced.

I like HTC better but cant put a finger on why
I used Rogers for a week then switched to HTC. seems more stable (rogers was more erratic (Im in Brazil) Rogers seemed faster in some things but in general Ill stick with HTC. QUOTE THE TMO NEVERMORE
PS if you try one then the other you might have an instalation issue (I did) second installation wouldnt work till I reinstalled TMO rom then did new installation. The HTC is much prettier than rogers
Does the Rogers rom support micro SDHC cards?

I then tried Valhalla GPS thing...Still nothing!
I did a clear storage which formats everything...(let custimizations run this time!) Did the *228, location, h/w port, program port, baud, etc...Tried live maps...nothing........Installed Valhalla....Nothing!!! Nothing Nothing!!
I was successful last week with this by figuring out my phone was on 911 only and gps locked instantly...that phone was cracked and broken and had to be sent back. I know this should work...but I am stumped! Please Help me!

For some reason it works!
It wasn't working at all...I didn't touch it & went to sleep...I woke up & the FRIGGIN' thing works great!
Thanks!
What exactly are you trying to figure out?
I am presuming you are trying to use GPS on your Touch (XV6900)? Do you have a live data connection? If you do not have a data connection, perhaps Verizon has data block on your phone, then aGPS (Valhall CAB) wont work.
By the way, the leaked ROM was from phonenews.com. This was an official Verizon ROM, therefore you dont have to worry about letting customizations run. I am runnig this exact ROM and works great so far. Verizon simply has not made it "official" as of yet. When they do finally put it out there for all of us XV6900 users you can find it on
http://www.pcdphones.com/view_phone_details.aspx?mcode=XV6900&sAct=0&carrierid=null&bID=95
This is not the official rom by far.....everyone has reported the gps does not work and the rom is incredibly sluggish
you are wrong whosdaman.
The ROM is perfectly working, with all the customization, and the GPS works perfectly in google maps or live maps after using the vallalha fix. Been using it since it was posted and just installed manilla2d to replace the cube and it works a treat.
Are you working for verizon?
yup just flashed the verizon unofficial 6.1 rom, so far seems stable and data is fast.
Opera works good also. I havent reinstalled all my apps yet to see if there are any problems there.
Installed vahalla gpsfix, google maps and livesearch get locks on 6-10 satellites in 3-5 seconds in my house!
Installed vznavigator from vzstart.
VZNavigator fails because it checks provisions and verizon hasnt enabled its use yet.

Well, I can confirm that with this ROM my device is in fact sluggish, and the GPS most certainly does NOT work out-of-the-box (maybe with the exception of VZNavigator), and I didn't have any luck with the Valhalla GPS deal.
I've since gone back to my custom ROM and still can't get GPS working - I suspect because once firmware is written you can't roll it back?

version 20 I think, whatever was the last stable version.
You can't uninstall it without a hard reset though, at least that's what the doc says, didn't try it.
After using manilla for a while now, I think the cube is much more efficient. Not as sleek as manilla, but I lost a lot in productivity by removing the cube and am considering going back.
Hey not sure if this is a question I can ask or not here but can someone point me in the right direction to get this rom. And will I need to re authenticate the phone after flashing?
Valhalla Cab
Can someone please post a copy of the Valhalla cab file. Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind, found one online.
P.S. I'm a little late on this update, but I was able to update my wifes XV6900 w/ the original leaked rom (with customizations) and enable GPS for use w/ GoogleMaps using the Valhalla fix.

[Q] Internet stopped working for Custom ROMs...works on orig Bell ROM

So, I've had my Touch with Bell for almost 2 years now.... I've been running NFSFAN's 6.1 ROM for as long and I've never really had any problems until about a month ago. I haven't posted it until now, but I thought I'd share.
My internet just suddenly stopped working....it would make the connection just fine, but no data would ever go through....not on Opera, not on email, nothing....
I flashed back to the Official Bell ROM and all was well......flashed back to NFSFAN, no internet.
I then tried NFSFAN's WM6.5 ROM, no internet.....back to Bell, internet.
I haven't tried any other custom ROMS, yet.
Now, here's the kicker....a friend of mine who lives quite far away now (So I haven't had a chance to look at his phone, and he knows not how to flash it) was using the same phone with the same NFSFAN ROM (that I flashed on for him) and 2 days before mine quit, his internet stopped working as well.... Seems rather coincidental...
Has anyone else had this happen? Is it possible Bell found some way of determining that a custom ROM was being used and wanted to stop it? The only rationale for such an action that I can think of is to stop people from using the phone as a modem for free.....(which my friend was doing, and I was not).
So, since then, I've just been using the Bell ROM.....sucks, but I've learned to live with it...
any suggestions?
(and yes, I did call Bell tech support....all he would suggest was to flash it back to the official Bell ROM....which ended up being the correct fix....but seems fishy)
Take a look here, this issue was solved a while ago..............
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487&highlight=internet&page=1311
Thanks for the link.
I actually didn't have to do that fix.....I reflashed to 6.1 and......voila internet works....what a mystery.
I had a similar problem with Xv6900 on verizon I had to change my EPST settings. For future reference if you have verizon they use m.ip default of NAI your phone#@vzw3g.com. That fixed my data.

[Q] Baseband switching nightmare

Hi folks... I'm give up for searching. Let me open this thread.
I've been using CM7 and I never got this problem. My phone aways worked without touch baseband switcher option. In last Saturday my Defy started to lose carrier connection. Sometimes it show "only emergency calls", sometimes it show my carrier signal but I can't receive or make any calls. I need to reboot my device, then it works for a while. And yes, because of that my battery is draining very fast.
I've tried everything but nothing is working. I tried to change baseband, wipe cache/data/factory reset, delete bp_nvm_default folder contents and run baseband switch again with every available band option, re-flash everything again from stock Froyo, set up 3G only, 2G only, 3G preferred, flash older CM7 versions, flash last 4 Miui releases too... but it still losing connection. Believe me, I've tried every thing that I can find on google.
My carrier is "Oi", and my phone suppose to be working in 850/2100MHz mode. Could you guys help me? Is there others things that I should do? This could be a hardware problem? I don't think so, with stock Froyo rom it works flawlessly but I don't want go back to it. I don't have another SIM card to try.
I'll try a last shot: flash Froyo again and save bp_nvm_default for CM7. Maybe this could work, I don't know, I'm completely lost. But for now I need sleep, I'll try tomorrow.
Thank you! And sorry for my grammar mistakes. I need more English lessons.
UPDATE: With my friend's chip (TIM carrier) I've got no signal troubles, it's working like a charm. Now I put my Oi chip again and guess what? Yes, my phone loses signal after 15 min. God dammit, it's something with my carrier. I need to call them for support, but my carrier's call center people are a bunch of stupid morons. I can't figure how they could understand that I'm using an alternate firmware, i bet they will say that I need use only official firmware.
UPDATE 2: Ok, there's no way to make this work at Oi's network, I don't know why. So I moved to TIM. Using stock firmware isn't a option, since Motorola can't make a decent work, Motoblur sucks a lot. CM7 or MIUI running Gingerbread are much better than stock Froyo, even without Motoblur crap. Thanks guys for the answers!

Thanks! But yes, I tried it too.
Right now my system is running a Miui 1.10.28, using a RT brazilian Froyo as base (SBF file name: JORLA_U3_3.4.2_107-9_SIGNED_USAJORDMR1B15RETBRL). By the way, I've been using a Nordic 3.4.2_177-005 base system with Quarx's CM7 nightly builds for 4 months without problems, until last Saturday. I could test 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR later, but I'm afraid that can't resolve.
Serious, I'm tired of this. Unfortunately I'll go back to brazilian RT froyo, with Motoblur s*** and slow down my system. I'm losing important calls this way. :'(
EDIT: My friend here in my work gives me his TIM chip, so now I'm testing it.

If this makes you feel any better, you are not the only one with this problem..i used to get no network using my sim but my mom's cardused to work fine (i use cm7)..no matter what I do, this problem keeps coming back after a month or so..and I have never flashed a stock ROM usong rsd lite as I have read many people screwing up their defys in that process..so did the only thing I could- changed my sim!

I've seen, I read many issues like mine. Let me ask you: are the SIM cards from the same carrier?
My phone used to work too. It was running CM7 for 4 months and now started to lose signal suddenly! So that's why I flashed it with RSD Lite 8 times and tried many CM7 versions and Miui last weekend. Maybe I have luck, but I always did it with 100% charged battery.
I'll call TIM, maybe they could give me some advantages or a equivalent plan. So I'll change my carrier.
i changed my carrier...i am not sure whether the same carrier SIM will work...i couldnt find anybody with the same carrier's SIM...so played it safe and got a sim from my mom's carrier..
try this baseband switcher

going back to stock should really solve your problem...i wonder if it is a hardware issue covered under warranty...why dont you try getting it replaced??

Well, my phone is 7 months old. Warranty is still valid, but it works with stock firmware. So, I can't ask Motorola's support for replacement or fix it.
There's something wrong with my carrier's network. Here in my state, it was known as Brasil Telecom, but the company was brought by Oi, and they are joining their networks. When I had my old phone, it recognized BrT network, and a roaming signal appeared. The same happens when I use my Defy with stock firmware. But while I'm using a CM7 firmware, the phone show OI as a network available, no BrT and no roaming indicator. It's a bit weird, isn't? Oi's support can't explain why this happen, they just say that it's normal and that they won't charge me by roaming. I just can't realize how it was worked all this time.
Maybe I should change my carrier. Sometimes it delay my txt messages (send and receive). I took my sister's SIM card and I let it all day in my phone. TIM, again. And I have no signal losing, no battery drain, phone get on sleep mode normally. I need test it with SIM cards from Vivo and Claro, just in case.
i have the same issue... fixed with correct band !

Yeah, my case is just like a incorrect baseband. But there's something more, it's just impossible to be only a baseband issue!
I tried with the newer baseband switcher. First time I tried RT Brasil, them TIM, Vivo, Claro... so I started to try every single option. I don't know what I should do anymore. The solution seems to be change my carrier.
Hey bro! I had the same issue as you are experiencing a few days ago. Here's what I did:
In Baseband Switcher, choose the middle tab (i think it's europe or something), then select International RT (it's the first one).
Worked like a charm. (w/ TIM and VIVO)
Hopefully it'll work for you too! Good luck!

I said it already, I tried it. With every single option. The RT international was the 1st option after the brazilian's options.
I'm moving to Tim. Now my phone isn't loosing signal. Oi's network sucks.

[Q] New Glide owner, could use some advice.

Howdy Folks!
I recently got a SGH-I927 that is locked to AT&T.
I have read what I believe is all the relevant data about how to do the things I want, and I think I have it down, but I want to make sure I have everything exactly correct. I still have 6 days left with Virgin Mobile before I have to have all this done.
What I want to do...
Root
Back up my EFS
Update from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4
Carrier Unlock from AT&T so I can use a T-Mobile MVNO.
So my question is- is this the best order to do things in? I know I have to root before I can Unlock the phone or Backup my EFS, but I notice that there are two different methods for Rooting. I can root before I update to ICS or after. Does it make a difference? Which method is easier, which one is more reliable/safer? I also noticed that Unlocking the phone after updating to ICS requires an extra step, so that would be another factor.
Kies seems to be working, and when I plugged my phone in, it offered to update me from 2.3.6 (Baseband Ver I927UCKL1) to 4.04 (Baseband Ver I927UCLJ3), so it doesn't seem like updating will be a problem.
Are there any major issues with version two of the ICS update? I have read a lot of people that had issues with the first version of ICS that got released, and I know AT&T pulled it as an OTR update, but haven't heard a lot about version two. The people who have it are you satisfied with it? Did anyone prefer Gingerbread?
Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if these questions have been answered already, I really did read through a LOT of information before posting here, and haven't seen these answered.
You don't need to root to unlock the phone. You just need to insert a code you buy from a seller on the internet.
I'm running the ULCHJ version of ICS and it works fine. I experienced the same GPS issue i had in GB, but the same fix worked it out and it I'm totally happy with it.
I can say, hope i won't regret, that there's nothing i should fix so far. Some minor issues were fixed as soon as i went through, I'm quite satisfied with this ROM now.

hi dark blaidd, welcome to glide!
if i were to do it over again i would backup my efs via adb on my computer before rooting or anything.
i used fastgsm to unlock my phone which is a codeless way to unlock and i suspect its how i lost my imei
certainly get a code and use dmans uclj3 deodexed rooted as the stable rom.. then you can use es explorer to modify sirgps.conf and gps.conf to get your gps working. before i switched to cm10.1 JB I was running it with no issues and instant GPS lock in all apps.
I will likely switch back as I have a new hands free stereo for my car that I would like to legally take advantage of
let us know if you run into issues you will need to do a few searches.

I'm a poor boy, so I am probably going to try and save a few bucks by using this method, which requires root.

I can't believe I am about to say this, I have spent the last two years on custom ROMs, but I think I am fine with stock for now. The ROMs for the Glide look promising, but I MUST have Camera and Bluetooth, so I will probably wait until those issues get ironed out. There is also a chance that Samsung will update us to Jellybean, they just released an update for the Galaxy S2, so it's possible.

Don't bother with ICS, the official ROM has issues and we never did much dev at that level. Go to CM10.1 once you have the ICS bootloader.

About that... AT&T phones, even once unlocked, cannot use UMTS or HSPA+ on T-Mobile's network. It's a physical limitation of the radio. ONLY do this if you already KNOW you will be happy with EDGE.

I'm in same boat here I guess. Just ordered a Glide, looking forward to having a physical keyboard again since my TP2 days. I was checking out the ROM options, found the link for "Stock UCLJ3 Rom" and it looks like that is the way go, other than maybe just staying stock... I need Bluetooth, Camera, GPS, and Tethering to work, so I guess I won't be messing around with anything fancy.
So don't do any OTA upgrade at all when I first get it out of the box? Just back it up, then root, and install UCLJ3 via CWM? Is this the best choice?

There is not and never has been GPS problems that actually affect normal use. I don't know where people are getting that from. There's some anomalies in the data returned, but nothing that's actually used by the location API.
Bluetooth itself works, but there are some audio layer problems that interfere with headsets/earpieces and the like. (TBH our whole audio layer is a mess right now.) Stuff like OBEX and tethering should work fine.
Speaking of audio layer issues... there's still a longstanding bug where if userspace (i.e. an app; normal cell network phonecalls are fine) opens the microphone, audio output is corrupted. The biggest problem caused by this is the other person is basically unintelligible when calling in Skype. That and Bluetooth audio routing are really the only big problems we still have.
The camera was fixed months and months and months ago. I discovered the original fix even. There was a problem with audio in the video recorder that has now been solved recently.

OK, so then just the random app microphone and bluetooth issues still remain... So you still say it's worth it? I'm leaning towards the debloated rooted stock as I'm just lazy and want everything to work.

Official ICS was something of a ****storm, as Samsung never did get it to work quite right. There was a myriad of weird keyboard issues, intermittent radio problems, and come to think of it, I think I know where the GPS thing came from... official ROMs have lethargic GPS if you're not on AT&T. I'd say 99% of power users with a Glide are on one build/variant or the other of CM10.1 because it's the most problem-free ROM that's not, ugh, Gingerbread.
The primary value of official ICS to us was the kernel sources and RIL blobs -- the last few critical bits and pieces we needed to make our own ROMs and properly connect them to all the phone hardware.
I'd say, once you have everything backed up:
Flash official ICS UCLJ3 (for the bootloader and baseband)
Flash CWM over the top of it
Use CWM to flash the current CM10.1 build and gapps. Call it good.

Ok great, thanks for the explanation/breakdown So if there is an OTA update that pops up right out of the box, do I do it or skip it? And I'll have to root before flashing the UCLJ3, right?

Might as well, as if it happens to be UCLJ3, well, it just did Step 1 for you, and if not, well, it doesn't matter either way.
You don't really need root for any of this since our bootloader is unlocked OOB.

Damn it, that really sucks. Thank you so much for letting me know that, you saved me some headaches.
Edit: I did some digging around to get a technical explanation of this issue and stumbled across some unexpectedly good news, I can use HSPA+ on T-MO, well halfway at least, I'm going to make a new post as a public service.
