Keyboard Problem with WM 6.0 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hello.
I installed the official WM 6.0 ROM from Vodafone Germany. Since then my keyboard funktions not properly. The keys 'CAPS','W','S' and 'X' don't funktion.
The Backlight doesn't go as well..
What could i do, to fix this problem? Or may be my keyboard is defektiv?
Where can i buy a new one?
Thanks

You might want to try doing a clear storage and setting rom up again. If this doesnt work id try a different rom before looking at the hardware.

Hello.
I did reset and config. the device again...it didn' help me..

I don't mean to bring down your hopes but i believe you may be facing a hardware problem...
As you may know, the connection between the keyboard part and the screen part of your Hermes is made by a flat band which can be damaged by heavy use, such as opening and colosing your Hermes many times for a long time.
If I were you, I woulf flash an original ROM and I would send the device for repair.
My Hermes has a similar problem in some keys, such as «V», «A» and «Z» but with some pressure i get to make them work so I don't even bother to send it for repair.
Cheers.

I think it's a hardware problem, too.
That's why i asked, where could i get a new keyboar with a flat band.
The phone has no more Garantie...so repair isn't possible. I have opened it and it looks OK from inside...no black places or so.. it seems really that the keyboard ist defektiv.
Greetings

Well,
Even if the PDA as no further warranty you can allways send it for repair... In the worst case you will have to pay for it.
I really don't know where to find parts for your PDA so you can epair it yourself...
Anyway, if you consider doing so you may want to bare this in mind...
Possible defective parts:
- Keyboard membrane [Embedded on the PCBA of the Keboard]
[Thats a specific part you may eventually acquire individualy]
[Part Number: 51H00335-00M]
- Keyboard connection flat band [Keyboard FPC]
[Thats a specific part you may eventually acquire individualy]
[Part Number: 73H20045-09M]
- Keys physical contact node [Embedded on the key layer itself]
[Thats a specific part you may eventually acquire individualy]
[Part Number: 71H01361-00M]
If you plan to disassemble your Hermes I recommed you thoroughly read the Hermes Service Manual available throuh this link:
http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/Hermes Service Manual _A03_[2].pdf
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Good luck on fulfilling your goal.
Cheers.

Check out mike channons guides, he has a guide to clean the contacts between the keyboard and keys. Might be that you need to do this as it may be slightly corroded in between the keys and the Metal contacts.
Here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1399157&postcount=16
Hope this helps as its apain trying to find parts or a spare from somewhere...
Cheers...

That's one of the causes I pointed out and the link you provided is exactely the same i have provided...
Cheers.

So... i opened my Hermes, cleaned the contacts....the defektiv keys are still without fuktion. No change of the situation...still 4 defektiv keys...
so i guess the keyboard plate is really defektiv and must be replaced by a new one.
i will look in Ebay for a defektiv HTC Hermes, and try to take only the keyboard.
Thanks a lot everyone, who tried to help me.
Greetings.

Software Keyboard (seems fast)
Eventually the hardware keyboards have a weak point.
You might want to try this tool (there is a freeware version and a pro version):
www.fingertouchpro.com
I think the speed can be compared to using a hardware keyboard.

Artemis users: Help me with my bugs!

Hi fellas.
Please check out my review on this device:
http://www.absolutesurf.com/articles/dopod_p800w/
Towards the end of the review, I have listed 2 bugs found. Can you also let me know if you notice such bugs? I'm particular about the standard input bug especially. Thanks!
Secondly,
Lets say i want to use the O2's or T-mobile's ROM, is that possible? Is there a way to flush out my ROM into an installer so that I can install it back in if I were to send the device to Dopod for one reason or another?
Nice review!
I have a Greek rom so that my input panels are somewhat different than yours (Greek keyboard and I do not have the T9 phonepad input). In general I have not had this upward-shifting bug. Ocassionally it has happened when I have activated the transcriber while on the today screen...but this has been the exception rather than the rule.
A small bug that bugs me regarding the input is the long lag when shifting from one input method to the other. I have considered installing calligrapher as a solution to this problem (as it has keyboard and transcriber together)...but I do not like to crowd main memory.
Thanks
Yes, shifting between inputs does lag a little. The phonepad I'm using is taken from this forum as well. You can simply install it.
I think I gotta hard reset my device and install other stuffs one at a time to determine the root cause. Just this little problem that makes the device imperfect..
Mask, nice write up, with ref to the car holder, are you sure it can't be bent? the one supplied with my P3300 looks the same and that can be bent (it just takes a fair bit of effort) - Mike

I can confirm that I do not have these issues on my HTC P3300.
I have also mapped the mouse pointer to a hardware button. When I click it when TomTom is running, the button reverts to the default (internet explorer) but TomTom already has a pointer for exploring the map using the scroll ball! Also I do not need to do a reset upon exit of TomTom. The button goes back to mouse pointer.
Did not see the shifting input panel when I toggled between keyboard and phonepad (also from this forum)
It could be model related, or Mapking could be the culprit here

Oh my!
Yes.. it bends! Initially it felt pretty hard and I was afraid I will snap it. Thanks for pointing that out.
As for the other probs.. I willbe doing a hard-reset.. and slowly install apps one at a time, to see what exactly is the culprit... Hmmm
After the hard reset, I still have the problem on the extreme bare minimum device!
Someone help me answer my ROM question pls.. I think I wanna change to a P3300 ROM. How is it anyway? Thanks!!

Hermes Keyboard Map

I flashed to the htc release wm 6.1 but accidentally did a foreign version. I flashed it again with the US release and it works fine except the symbols E, D, X, W, S, Z, Q, and A are not working correctly. They input a different symbol.
I went to do the keyboard fix...
"Goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal.
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in hexadecimal)."
...and the value was already 132105 (20409 in decimal)
I went ahead and changed it to 132104 and then back to 132105 but it is still not working.
Is there such a program that would allow me to easily re-map the keyboard?
Any help is appreciated!
schaps advanced config 2
Thanks!
I ended up just finding this fix a little further down the page...
"Issue: When applying a non-cingular ROM to an 8525 its default keyboard is different than the 8525.
The Fix:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=263177 (decimal)"
...it works, but now the keyboard will not light up.
Is this an unrelated problem?
How do I fix it?

No it doesn't fix the problem, any other place in the registry do you know....? Thank you!!
Apologies for jumping onto this thread, seems the best place really.
I've just bought a HTC Hermes, and it has WM 6.1 installed, using it on the Orange UK network.
My only problem is, when pressing ! I get @, and when pressing Y i get Z.
I've ensured all language and keyboard options are set to UK, however I just don't seem to be able to change the keyboard map to full UK, although physically the keyboard is correct, just not the SW side of things.
I was just wondering if someone could help me, if you let me know where I need to look, i'll be able to help you, just not used anything MS based for the past 4 years, so its a bit of a foreign object now.
Thank you,

Anyhow, have you tried the latest Advance Config Tool v3.3? Try that version and see if it fixes you issue.

Hi there,
I'm actually new to Smartphones, and the Tytn / Hermes was going cheaply online (ebay unfortunately), but the phone itself is excellent and is easy to use from back in my windows days.
Most is familiar, but seeing how far Windows can go before I want to switch to Linux.
Where would I get the ACT? Is it downloadable from here as a development tool, or is it online needing payments etc?
Thank you,
greee, u can get it at schaps website here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070&highlight=advanced
galaxys,
I've downloaded the ACT, along with a pocket msn, and neither will install.
Do i need to put them somewhere for it to install correctly? Just i'm only getting access to my memory card.
Thank you,

Both should install on main memory.
Are you getting an error when the don't install?
So far kareem, i'm getting an XML output for the ACT, and for Pocket MSN it reports:
Setup Is Not a valid Pocket PC application.
With the ACT, i've no option to install, although the setup file I have was meant to be a cab file.
Thank you,
Scratch all that, got both PocketMSN and ACT installed today! For some reason the keyboard was in German, so switched that back!
Thanks guys!
Now got to find uber cool stuffs for my phone...
what's the value for an azerty keyboard

SMS Notification

Hello,
If I get a SMS the SMS notification looks "IDS_NEWMESSAGEACOUNT". After a hardreset it looks for 2 or 3 days "n New SMS". A restet is not helping. Some one knows what to do?

A hard reset won't help as the problem is caused by an error in the manilla files that are cooked into the rom (in other words, the files are never removed by hard reset). Unfortunately, the only way to change this is by editing the files, which I believe requires LUA coding, which I've heard is tricky and certainly have no experience of myself. I only know this from the TP2 manilla project that brought Rhodium manilla to the Diamond here. My advice would be to contact the contributors of the project directly for a resolution to your problem. I may be wrong and it may be simpler than that if anyone would like to correct me, but I remember they were getting these kind of text errors on some of the tabs they were porting. It was alway "IDS_xxxx" etc.
The other solution of course is to wait for HardSPL and flash a new ROM. Or send it back and get a new one...it's basically a software fault, presumably due to the fact that the device and its software are very new and there may still be creases to iron out that newer models wont have. It would be covered by your warranty.
Thanks for answering. I think I'll wait for an update!

The hardware keyboard functions improperly

Dear friends,
I have serious troubles with my hardware keyboard,
it's german layout (and a german phone).
Often it doesnt take input until the third or fourth tap on the according
button, while other buttons create a series of letters after just one short press.
So the text often looks like this.
Hlllllo mmmmum,
nee yoou to pckk meee upp afffterrr sclllll.
it has been like that for a while, but seems to get worse over time.
at first only m's and n's did this, now it's impossible to enter passwords or other sensitive texts.
I have been using custom roms for a long time, always using hard reset and t29.
but even the old roms where it once used to work fine suck now.
I restored stock spl and installed ofw via sonyericsson fw update,
slighty better, but still uncomfortable.
I used kaiserinput to get the german layout work properly,
but that is not the problem, since i tested the ofw without installing any extra apps or games.
it seems to be a driver issue of some kind, any experiences with that?
Help much appreciated!
Greetings,
Fk
It's a known issue. If you had used the search function you would have found the answer yourself. You have to disassemble your phone and clean the contacts. Afterwards your keyboard will be just as new.
Hey thanks for the quick reply.
I apologize that i have not searched hard enough,
I could not find it in my attempts.
Would you mind to post the according thread link for me?
I will try now to find it on my own!
I will report back asap then this thread can be closed!
thanks again,
Fk

Whoops, sometimes I can put the blinders on. That's an Android thing on our port of Android... Doesn't have anything to do with WinMo.
If you're experiencing this issue in WinMo, I think there's a cab you can install to remedy it. I don't have a link handy, I'll try to find one.
Edit - first, I would make sure you didn't install an Italian ROM on a Nordic RHOD. That might be the source of your issues.
Other than that, you can see if this key remapper tool will help. It might.
I apologize, I think you're right, you installed a Nordic Roma Italian of Rhodia. I just bought on ebay because I like and has a fair price. and I saw that was brought Android on it. I'm looking to set it up (in my free time) and use it well, but as you see my English is not my best and try to understand as much as possible before doing damage. I saw your build and I find it interesting, but I did not understand, for example if I set I startup.txt to overclock or does it automatically?
and then these days I found myself having problems with wifi. I can not connect decent. I tried changing the radio, but I often just walk away from the router the speed does not exceed 1 Mbps RX and I lose the connection.

Ask Android questions in the Android section please. My fault for mixing them up previously... I wouldn't worry about damage tho - worst thing that could happen is your SD card might get destroyed, but I was running for over a year on the same card, no problems. Card still works great. There's literally no risk to the phone itself - reboot the phone, and it goes right back to WinMo.
As for wifi, I assume the issue with wifi is in WinMo? I don't know, I can't really help you there. I would try other AP's, make sure it's not your AP.
hardware problem with windows
Hello there,
I have HTC TP2 mobile few days (not new). It has Windows Mobile 6.5 energyROM installed and also Android on the SD card.
When I am using hardware keyboard with WM, it has problems with FN (it works ash SHIFT) and shift(CAPS) don´work anytime.
But when I switch to android - everything is OK. So it is not hardware problem, but WM problem, I think. Can anybody help?
Thank you.

I would reflash, and make sure if there's any specific cabs you need to install after the fact, you do it.
For example, on my Sprint RHOD400, if I didn't install a 'keyboard fix' cab after flashing WinMo there were a few keys that were off/non-functional. Been a while since I've used WinMo really at all, but if I recall correctly they were different than the keys you're having issues with.

I have to say, I am a totally newbie in this. I bought this phone few days ago through internet auction. I know it is flashed at that ROM above. But I don´t know anything more about it. I am a newbie in HTC - windows mobile (until this I used Nokia, lol). So I don´t know anything about flashing, cabs etc. and don´t know, if my english is so good to understand all this from forums here

Read, read, read. You have to be somewhat self-sufficient here - unless you have the exact same phone and carrier as me, I won't be able to hold your hand. Besides, you learn nothing by having someone hold your hand.
There's tons of threads and articles here on WinMo. Use that search button and poke around the WinMo development section.
