TV-Out on Diamond? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

g´d evening,
now that there are several dumps of pro roms doing it´s rounds - i was wondering if there are any news about a possible tv-out in the diamond. last time i checked the forum and the news on various sites there was mentioned that they share the same hw (exept for the keyboard). so, is there any chance that we´ll ever be able to hook it up to our tvs?

this model don't have TV-Out, the only connector is mini USBext (= mini usb + stereo headtset )

Yes but the Diamond Pro also have the same connection and has a cable with the s-video out function...

TarKin - interesting proposition. By maybe I think that we won't know until some of our cookers get hold of some HTC touch pro roms. Also I think that it is not a s-video out - only composite video?

Okay if there is a TV out on this Jewel THATS it!!!
Best device ever!
By farrrr

It seems that they've already seen it... let's hope...

Charge or synchronise your HTC Touch Diamond simply by placing the device in the cradle connector. You can plug the desktop cradle into a home stereo system via the cradle’s 3.5mm line out connection to enjoy high quality music playback.
Intergrated Spare Battery Charger
It can be charged and synchronised with HTC Touch Diamond AC Adaptor UK TC B100 (not included) or HTC Touch Diamond Data Cable DC U300 (USB/miniUSB) (not included).
This cradle comes with two inserts (the plastic holders) for Touch Diamond and Touch Diamond extended battery and it also supports the inline connection of the following optional accessories:
HTC Touch Diamond Multifunction Audio Cable YC A200
TV Out Cable TC A110 (pre-release)
This is for the desktop cradle for the touch diamond, gotten from expansys. dont know if it has anything to say, but i hope so

yes the cable does Exist for the Diamond, though its not available in the Current ROM hence why the adapter is "pre-release".

@walshieau
do i understand you correctly: *your* opinion is that it´s just a matter of time until we´ll see a working tv-out (rom+cable) or the diamond? is that correct?

A TV out on HTC Diamond!! So good!!

It must have some kind ov Video output!

Well, when the Gameboy was released, you could play tetris on TVs in the shops. For many years I thought "hey, they might bring out a tv adapter someday". They never did.
But hey, this is 2008 ! everything is possible !

it`s probably not an TV but beamer connected to pc which is connected with diamond through BT or WiFi and some software for presenting mode ?

I already have the mini USB to VGA out connector! Yes, from the HTC Athena. Only if the ROM is ready, id be glad to test it out.

Nicee...let´s wait for the rom...or a cab to update drivers, theres already diamond pro roms out there..lets see if anyone can find out if it realy have tv-out he only thing missing in this beaty

Ridiculous
How many other threads related to this should be initiated of what we already have?
it does not belong in here (ROM thread)
it belongs in accesories as we talk about a cable yes? ,
When using the Search function "vide out" you'll find plenty of posts - threads already.
Expansys has- had removed the cable (picture) from all their websites for unknown reason otherwise you will see how it look. Easy to copy-cat.
And for God sake yes, spread the following math:
11(or 16pin TBC) USB to Cinch Cable + Rom tweak = Video out
(though this needs to be proven. ... Same as the never found solution for the TytnII drivers)

Hello, this is definitely about ROM thread *we are talking about whether the ROM supports TV out* we are not merely talking about some lead. If the ROM supports TV out, we could either use the lead from the Touch Pro, or we could make our own. Until it comes to the issue of "leads" this will remain a ROM issue. Perhaps when we are discussing leads and adapters we will need to use the "accessories" area, and then you can contribute some helpful infos. cheers

Bullocks. but... whatever you say .. whatever you say.
I won't argue. I am too old for this
Anyone used the search function on "video out" no I guess?

A converter isn't going to work. They all require a USB Host port.
yes
also interested into this old fashionned but necessary tool to console to routers for example.
so up for this topic
I am interested also.
I was thinking about this a while back though. I think the only way this is going to work really is through a bluetooth or IR adapter.
Obviously those would require external power. Doing it with an IR adapter should be relatively easy to program, something along the lines of a PIC 16F64 or 18F452 would be more than enough. However, would it be usable? When controlling a router I would like to use the keyboard. The IR points dirctly towards the user.
However, I have little experience in how BT works, so would not be able to even think on how that would work.

Bluetooth to usb
How about this: http://www.neteon.net/cat.aspx?clvl=3&c1=1&c2=177&c3=107
It's a serial to Bluetooth dongle. I don't see any WM drivers but I would think that the bluetooth stack on the latest "cooked" ROMS would support serial host since that is what most bluetooth GPS receivers use.
If it wheren't for the $108 price tag I would grab one of these myself and see if it worked.
Maybe in a few weeks. If someone else gets a chance to try this one, please post here and let us know.

Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard

I got one unit today just for testing. I do not own it unfortunately.
The unit is amazing, it detects the typing very accurately, however, I need to adjust to this new 'style' for a while before I can do the typing like usual (its a funny to realize I'm typing on something 'virtual' on my desk).
It comes with driver for Palm, WM 2003, but no WM5. But, guess what, it works perfectly with my Universal without any additional software. The bundled software, however, will allow you to set the intensity, time out, etc.
The vendor web site is: http://www.itechdynamic.com/
Enjoy the pictures!
NICE
apparently there are to versions of a/m keyboard ... and as I misread the ad I have got the other one  i.e. without th BT functionality, what's a pity
yeah, there are 2 versions, cabled version and BT version.
So, you got the cabled version, how it works with Universal? Through the USB mini port? I'm curious as Universal does not have any serial port...

It will be great to have such a keyboard like that if you work on a desk but my concern is 'how the keyboard will look like with normal daylight?' since in the picture, the keyboard did not appear to be that good.
Wouldn't it hurt your fingers after a while? People would think you're crazy when they see you typing from a distance.
I'm quite happy with the hardware keyboard - after all, that's why I went for the Universal!

MDA Compact III WLAN and technical questions

Hello to All
I have seen many people search for the answer to the question I have, does our MDA CIII have WLAN or not?
There is an extensive thread on that topic, with no real conclusion, so i thought i open a new one, and throw some new ideas and questions into the room.
First of all:
I own a Arte110 i was one of the first ones to get it in Austria, i bought it right when it hit T-mobile stores on the 02.11, back then the Austrian webpage advertised it has WLAN, the German webpage never claimed that, so when i was standing in the store i asked once more, and the guy said no WLAN, in that moment i didnt think much, since the device was very nice, and there was no alternative for me, since my other phones was stollen a couple of days before, and i was in a hurry to get a new mobile.
Well now i do miss WLAN, and i am trying everything to get to it
I checked the dutch page yesterday, it still says WLAN, can it be that T-mobile doesnt supply some of its biggest markets (German, Austria) without WLAN, but it does so in the Dutch market. It doesnt even make sense to buy two different pieces of HArdware when they order in masses.
SO how come we dont get WLAN and they do! And seemingly some dutch friends have confirmed their devices have WLAN. I am planing to confront T-mobile Austria on that and see what they say, did any one do that already?
Further i tried talking up HTC, but they didnt help much, told me to go talk to t-mobile.
Now a question to the technical guys around, being an Electronic Engineer myself, i am very interested in playing around to get this WLAN mystery solved, so i am in the search of following things:
a. Any one take one of these things appart?
b. Any way to get our hands on infromation concearing wireing, chipsets, and the inside of the device? I found this italian website which had a block diagram of the new HTC 4000-something model, it would be nice to have something like that for our MDA, would solve many questions.
c. What type of USB does our device have, is it client only or does it also support host? if so we would work out an external solution! That would be great if it would support host function, specialy for all other kind of applications.
d. Any idea where we could get such info from
Thanks to all
And dont give up until we have a prove that the Hardware for WLAN is missing in our devices!
The extensive thread you refer to has most of the answers to your questions, I think, on the penultimate page. The outfit who unlocked the phone said it wasn't an Artemis model (the United Kingdom MDAIII enquired about and similar to the German/Austrian I believe) but a Hero and it didn't have wireless lan.
They also said the Artemis and Hero looked cosmetically identical but were different inside...
I must admit that I find it strange that the Dutch went for the Artemis model and the others the Hero. You would have thought that the entire European operation would have made a bulk purchase.
well i have still no information on the USB?

Afaik it's client only... though I'm not completely sure.
We should really find out, cuz if its a full functioning USB, one could try getting a WLAN to work on it externally.
I must say i still have hopes of having the hardware inside...these dutch people, why do they get WLAN? i dont understand. They should help us out with a ROM...it would be redicoulus if T-mobile only supplied them with WLAN (no offense i like holland, but still this gets me mad)
I will contact T-mobile tomorrow and have a word with them!
If the USB is only a client, how is hte antenna recognized via USB?
I don't think, that the antenna has to be recognized as a "Device"... It is just a cable, that is connected to the right Pins in the USB Connector. A normal FM Radio surely does not recognize the Antenna as a device, almost any cable can do the job if connected to the Antenne Input of the Radio....At least i'd say
ok explanation taken...i was hoping for a bit more hightec...but that goes too...(and is absolutly right).
So no one around her believes that the USB could also be a host?
The Omap850 can handle usb on-the-go. See here: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...lateId=6123&navigationId=12000&contentId=4679
German USB-On-The-GO Description (german): http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/23696
We can also see that wlan a/b/g is on chip but wth is wiLink?! or mWLAN.
greets
THIS IS great, thanks...I was looking for a block diagramm...now lets look what the chip can do...
Thanks
Ok i figured what the WiLink is, and its sounds really good for us, since it seems to be part of the MDAC III architecture:
"WiLink™ 5.0 platform is the industry's first solution that integrates mobile WLAN (mWLAN), Bluetooth® and FM stereo audio all in a space-saving platform for mobile phones."
Sounds like the functionality of our MDAC III, only that Austria/German/UK doesnt have the GOD DAMN WLAN activated (i hate you dutch guys... )
SO now following question, if the WLAN is intergrated on the OMAP, it cannot be removed by HW...but only be deactivated via firmware. The question is now, does the OMAP need some co-processor to make use of WLAN, or only an antenna, now if it needs an antenna, then it could well be that Tmobile removed this Antenna!
I will do further technical research on this
it does seem to miss integrated WLAN: "54-Mbps WLAN interface" i think when they talk of interfaces, the only mean it supports some WLAN chip to work with it...
Hmm, you can see that that WiLink/mWLAN stuff is not on chip. It's some external circuit which possibly does not exist on our mdac3. Though... proove me wrong and we are best friends

Dear,
I just take it from this web, and I found It's can used with 2 program
1 is WMP and the other is HTC Audio Manager(but you need install drive that come with package). It's very good smalltalk and remote control but I used p800w It's can't used HTC Audio booster, that made me sad because I like Bass Boost.
Have Any one have Base Boost that can used and work with p800w?
Thanks a lot.

Hi, it sort of works. When I got the package, there was a sticker over the supported models - the O2 Xda Orbit was "not" supported. As I had changed the ROM to the HTC generic version, I loaded the drivers and plugged it in. The adapter works, and I can use normal headphones BUT none of the buttons on the remote function with the O2 XDA
The Artemis and the XDA may just be that little bit different (more than just the case) which may be why they put a sticker over the supported models info. By the way, it was sold as an Artemis accessory and not an O2 XDA accessory, so I cant really send it back.
Therefore, if anyone in the UK has an Artemis (not an O2 XDA) and wants the adapter, they can buy it off me for £15 plus postage. It is brand new, used once, in its original box with driver disk. If you want to pay by PayPal, it's £2 extra to cover the fees, otherwise NOCHEX or direct bank transfer.

no, they are the same phone, hardware wise. I have the remote and a O2 XDA Orbit and it works. You just need to install the HTC Audo Driver update for the P3300. Otherwise, the remote won't work when the phone switches off to save power. This stupid bug affects all apps, including in the middle of a phone conversation. I think that is mainly the reason for the audio driver update. I don't have the HTC Audio Manager, anyone know how I can get hold of it?
The remote works with WMP. It also works with the FM Radio app, pressing play mutes it (rather than the mute button on the side), volume control (not the main phone volume) works, FF/FR switches between preset stations.
The green/red phone buttons works even when running other apps like TomTom or TCPMP. But non of the other soft buttons can be mapped to functions in TCPMP or any other program for that matter as they don't exist like your average hardware buttons on the phone itself. So as a result, you can't assign a button to activate Voice Dial or Voice Command.
The other problem is more to do with the new ExtMiniUSB port. I cannot charge the phone while I listen to the radio or mp3s for that matter! Compare to older generations of HTC phones which has a mini usb + separate 2.5mm headphone socket, this is quite stupid as I believe many ppl charge their phone via USB at work and also listen to the mp3s.
Ok, i was wondering why HTC was giving such strange answers about the useless power consumption.
HTC > (there will be no update to solve this, because it is not knowing issue.)???
Its strange behavior in my opinion when the phone wakes up completely after touching one of the buttons and never goes to sleep again. Not even switches the screen off. It uses more energy that way.
I’ve made a application for this problem just to switch the screen completely off after using the buttons on the remote. It runs in the background and waits for a change in the SystemPowerState. When the backlight dims it will switch of the screen after 1 second.
I can’t prevent the device from waking up but this works good enough.
Next step is to hook in to the remote interface driver and make the buttons act like normal devicebuttons so it would be possible to use another MP3 player. But I ‘m afraid my knowledge about this is not enough. Maybe someone can help me with that.

Oh well, sorry to hear that didn't help. I received my remote on the 17th, noticed it didn't work too well even after installing the driver that came with the remote. Then found the news that Audio Driver Update was release on the 16th so I got the download and it worked from then on.
it tries to you works in stereo
Works fine
I'm been using the rc for 2 weeks now and one must say it's working exactly the way I expected it to. The only lil hitch is the missing "stand-by" so you waste some amount of battery.
Maybe it's possible to check with a small service whether Audio Manager is running in playback mode and react e.g. with turning of background lights.
I'll give it a try next week in office (need my VS).
Anybody with experience?
wold you recommend one then?

HTC's stupid headphone/power socket combo & ultimatum
Dear HTC,
Please, if your are not the appropriate person to be considering my email, pass it on to someone who can adequately able to address my concerns.
Briefly, I am a huge fan of HTC handsets, having been a the proud owner of no less than 5 different models in the last 3 years.
My particular issue is with the HTC TYTN and TYTN II (or Kaiser) models. I am far from alone in this concern, as a simple Google search will reveal, so I am not going to waste time justifying myself. I'll launch immediately into the criticism and the request for an explanation, etc...
2 years ago, my first TYTN had to be replaced after 3 months because the ill-conceived combo-headphone-power mini USB socket became faulty. After 13 months it became faulty again. Since it was out of guarantee, i had to repair it myself. A month later however, when the socket once again broke, I installed a separate headphone socket in the side of the case myself, it was easy... TOO easy...
Since then my original TYTN has been fine.
A few weeks ago, I purchased the new TYTN II or Kaiser. I knew beforehand that the headphone and power sockets were once again the same. However, I assumed that they would have been strengthened due to the bad pres the previous model had received over this issue.
I was sadly mistaken. Within 3 weeks I have had to replace my TYTN II after the headphones started crackling when I moved the headphone cable. After examination, the mini-USB socket is IDENTICAL to the original TYTN,and bending in the same way. I have now stopped recommending this phone to people due to this. Either you don't intent users of this handset to use headphones, or you dont care that the socket isn't up to the job!
Considering that I influence thousands of people through my website in their choice of hanset upgrades, I am sure that HTC will feel the financial blow of my decision, at least slightly.
My questions are as follows:
1.) Why, after all the bad press the initial single connector design got, did HTC decide to do exactly the same stupid thing with the Kaiser (TYTN II)?
2.) Are you prepared to issue me, free of charge, with a a
brand new model, with a SEPARATE headphone socket, for which I will write an article in the magazine I work for singing your praises and recommending your improved Kaiser II, with the separate stereo headphone socket?
I formally give you 7 days to reply to my satisfaction, considering I have spent nearly £1000 with you. Failing to do so will result in a loss of revenue to yourselves totaling at least many hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds.
Sincerely
Lawrence Bowen

Read speeds are fast enough to watch 1080p content.
Unfortunately USB keyboard/mouse, and two different USB gamepads were a fail.
If only I knew a place I could post this where there might be devs around who could read it and make USB gamepad support happen...

Hi everyone, quick word to all that these are working with the SGSII. No need to wait until Samsung release them in 1-2 months, and at 6x the price!

Thanks mate, just bought it...
No worries!
Did you see the official ones are priced to sell at like 12pounds!
can it work with a memory card reader?
If the card reader doesn't draw too much power. I tried with one and it didn't work, but if I plug it into my externally powered USB hub then it works fine.
Updated first post with the requisite video proof.
Do you have a link for that dell keyboard & mouse you used in the video?.. it looks great
The Dell Mouse is freely available, I got mine for a song on Ebay.
The keyboard is awesome, but sadly no longer made. Its a Dell-branded 'iGo Stowaway Ultraslim" keyboard, has a truly great hinge mechanism and folds down to next to nothing. You may be able to find it somewhere, but last time I checked I couldn't find any. There are lots of cheap HID profile BT keyboards out there, check my thread in the Galaxy S forums - lots of people confirmed various ones working.
Amazing! excellent video and info
it was nice to also demo the BT keyboard & mouse
thanks
OP, thank you!
Are you rooted? Anything special needed to do the bluetooth? Anything special other than the adapter cable needed for the USB memory stick?
@OP = great post and very informative video

Yep, its Rooted, but that was only for app restoration. There are no mods or hacks applied, everything you're seeing is stock functionality.
would this work on a galaxy s 1? if anyone knows

or desire ;p
I don't think either the Desire or the Galaxy S will do USB OTG (although the Desire may have it baked into a custom ROM, because I know it was enabled in the Nexus 1 with a mod, I don't know enough about Desire custom ROMs to know).
The original Galaxy S does support bluetooth keyboard and mouse though (I have a demo of that in my youtube channel also).
Quick ?
Can you use the BT keyboard without the virtual one popping up?
Hope they release the USB on the go cable ASAP!!!. Thank you very much for the video, it made me get more ansious to get one of this cables and be able to connect my external hard drive full of MKV files.
