Windows Fonts Inquiry: Clarified - HTC Excalibur

I checked the Fonts folder under \Windows and did not see any. I would like to change the clock font to that of an LCD screen/alarm clock. I believe I have found where to change that in registry but I'm wondering if I can just drop some fonts from my PC onto the phone and just go.
*This one, really really really, didn't need to be moved. One could have posted a link to the Clock thread. I would have appreciated that. There is, however, another question here related to fonts in general on the phone. I searched, couldn't find. However, if you know a thread, by all means move this one there.
For the second time, don't be so quick to just move the thread.

You shouldn't have to change anything in your registry, regarding your clock font. Just drag and drop a font file (.ttf) from your PC to the \Windows folder itself. Don't worry about placing anything in the "Fonts" folder. You'll need to edit the .cpr (also located in the \Windows folder) and replace the current clock font with the name of the LCD font.
EDIT: Make sure you rename the font to have "zz" at the beginning (ex. Tahoma = zztahoma.ttf). That way, your clock font won't be used to everything else in your phone. If you don't do this, you'll notice your Internet Explorer and Opera Mini browser (if you have it) will use the same font as your clock.

Thanks for clarifying that. I haven't changed the home screen that defaults when one installs Kavana's ROM. I've modified it and added panels with CHome Configurator though. Would you happen to know the name of the .cpr file I'd need to edit?
Edit: DERP! That'd be the CHome_320x240.cpr file wouldn't it?

I guess that is dash/excalibur specific, because I installed the zarmalite.ttf on my blackjack, and it took over operamini and some(but not all) of my mortscript options pages. Since it started with "z", I thought it would be alright, but I ended up having to remove the font completely. Also, my clock font never changed at all, even after editing the cpr with the new font.

Same thing happens to me, after a lot of tries, I gave up on the idea of changing the font.

Really??? That's strange. I'd think that this would work for any Windows Mobile device. Try this... Transfer over Tahoma (or another font similar to Segoe) to your device just like you did ArmaliteRifle. Rename it "aatahoma.ttf" so that Opera Mini and PIE will pick it up. Let me know how it goes, showaco.
EDIT: Also, it is IMPERATIVE that you name everything correctly. Double-click the ArmaliteRifle font file on your PC. Whatever name is listed needs to be what you place in the .cpr file. Place that particular name in the Font Family section of the clock area. It sounds like this might be why your phone picked up the font, but not your clock.

How to Change Outlook Mobile Fonts on WM6??

I have successfully changed System fonts; popup menu fots etc. howver no what what i do my Today and Outlook Mobile Fonts (font that displays the messages in inbox etc) don't change.
please let me know how to change those....
Anyone there to help???
How did you change the system font?
I'd like to change the system font to a simple arial font and can't figure out how to do that. Any ideas?
Also, any ideas about how to change the menus so they show up as a list rather than tiled icons?
copy the required font to Windows/Fonts directory of your windows mobile...
Check the following registry sections:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\SYSFNT\Nm
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\BarFnt\Nm
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\PopFnt\Nm
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\OOMFnt\Nm
in Nm use the font you have just pasted in Windows/Fonts
by the way i have also found a way to change the system/outlook/today font:
e.g; i like Calibri Font, so i renamed the regular Calibri font as Tahoma.ttf and bold calibri font as tahomabd.ttf and replaced the ones in Windows... reset and it was changed.
.
Just a tip for anyone, there is a chance you will run into problems using the windows\fonts directory for a system font file, I highly recommend placing the font directly in the Windows directory, also the last installed font in the Windows\fonts directory will be used, for example, if you drop Impact.ttf in the fonts direcotry, and power off/on the device, you will have impact as the font in PocketIE.
I just change the GDI setting myself, and drop the same file in the windows directory, and the fonts directory.
I only bother to mention this, because quite awhile back I was using the fonts only directory, and ran into issues, not implying that everyone will have the same issues.
I imagine if you just did the filename changing, you wouldnt even need the registry hacks too, good pointing that out, I never figured out that one, and went around and around at one time looking for a date plugin that used the font specified in the registry.

Chome redesign

I've grown bored with the standard CHome layout already. So tonight I spent a couple of hours moving things around. My original "Chome Slim" mod was improved also. So here's what this is about...
* Clock panel rearranged
* Opacity turned down (less visible), for unselected panels.
* Smaller panel icons
* NO panel icon for the messaging (notifications) center
* Centered the MyApplications, CPhotoDial, MWelcomeCenter etc panels
* Centered and tweaked the music and picture panels
* Tweaked Settings panels for bigger icons.
Cleaned up the xml file a little bit and made it more consistant (that's the .cpr file in case you're wondering).
If you want to try this on, install the cab below. Keep in mind I only tested with the panels you see in the my screenshots, so if you're using the Windows Live panel, for example, it might not match the rest of the theme. Please feel free to tell me your ideas, and of course.. your opinions of what I've done so far.
Uploaded the background used, since I'm sure I'll be asked for it Just download the last thumbnail and ... use it!
p.s. Reversal .cab uploaded. Use it to revert back to the original slim chome version, in case you don't like this one!

Nice! Any way of emulating the i600 Samsung Carousel/Card Wheel? I believe it can be done by manipulating the cpr file.
thanks
Just upload another cab to restore original files.
I will test everything, but don't wont to hard reset every time .

I really doubt it.... Sorry.
looks good.... i'll try it later
Im digging the layout, nice work. I just wish SmartToolkit would dynamically change the right softkey with chome like the original wm toolbar. Otherwise looks great!
Thanks.
Updated first post with a reversal .cab, which you can install to revert back to the original "chome slim" layout. Thanks!
Nice job man, looking great
Is there a way getting the time bigger. i am lol
Haha why would you want that bigger?
Actually a slight bigger clock and just the clock to be red would be rad.
*for me*
Oh ok I can try to work on something tonight ok.
Sure there is.. but then... it probably wouldnt be as cool... haha
Try the one attached to this post and see how you like it... copy to your \windows
check your private message
Hmmm havent tried to change colors yet... but that SHOULD be doable. Lemme try it a little later.. and I'll let you know.
can i install the css with only this mod from post 1? or with any homescreen prior to installing the mod.
Cause i dont like the slim look
Sure. So you JUST want the rearranged Clock.. Date.. etc..Just the first panel ?

yes please
The right soft key can be changed through CHome. Edit the CClock's SK2TEXT (soft key) and SK2URL accordingly.
The clock's font size, position, can be changed too. But not too sure about the color. (Tried but was not successful). So are the other panels. The screen layout is controlled by the cpr file.
To revert to factory default simply delete the cpr file which is in the \Windows directory. Since the original cpr file is in ROM the deletion actually deletes whatever mod that has been made to the cpr file. The original cpr will them be used.
The icon file is in \Windows\bronzeres.dll. Can be opened using PE explorer (google for it).
I hope this little info helps those interested in doing their own modification.
Thanks.
Any idea how to keep an unedited bronzeres.dll around, but be able to call images from an adulterated remake, like "bronzeres2.dll"? I would love to be able to swap the colors of the panels back and forth, and made the dll to do it, but can't figure out how to point to another filename. In the cpl? somewhere else?

Homescreen Questions

Using sliding panels NRG Topbar on 6.5 NRG. I want to customize a couple of things if someone could help me that would be great...
1) Carrier text
I have tmobile and it says "Get More..." for the carrier at the top of the clock. Can I change this to custom text?
2) I'd like to change the panels to a blue color instead of transparent; I've seen screenshots with this.
3) I'd like to change the font of the clock.
I've done 1 and 2 before on 6.1 but I did not back it up and I can't remember how I did it... I think it used MortScript but I'm not sure....
I did my best to search the forums but I couldn't find a solution to my problem! Sorry if this is a repeat!
Thanks.

Hey...all of it looks DO-ABLE, not necessarily Easy, but DO-ABLE.
For #1, I believe that the Carrier text is located in a res.dll or other dll file...so that is a toughie, but I dont know how to change the carrier names exactly. If you really want to, go into the CPR file and COMMENT OUT (using <-- and -->) the part that deals with the text for the carrier name...then replace it with a new piece of XML, practcally the EXACT SAME except, name it a different ID (like Text2) or something. Then go into the registry (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Chome/CClock) and add a string there...make its name the same as in the CPR, and make its Value TMOBILE....THAT SHOULD WORK, but I am no expert at that, so MAKE SURE TO BACKUP!!!!
For #2 TO make the panels Blue, you are going to have to get BronzeRes.dll from the Windows Directory, open it with PE Explorer or similar DLL resource editing tool. Then replace the resource that is the transparent panel background with one of your liking...there may be premade ones out there already, I am not sure...but searching may help (although you have already searched)...
For #3 I think..EMPHASIS ON I THINK... you need to take your own font that you want, put it along with the other fonts (in the Windows Directory)...somehow you have to sign it for the Device (that I don't know) so that it will recognize its existance, then you have to edit the CPR file...so that where it has the TEXT data for the TIME, you edit the name of the Font Class corresponding to your font, and how it is registered to the phone....
For all of these solutions, i am pretty sure they SHOULD work, but then again, i am no expert with this phone (yet)...but good luck...remember to modify with SAFETY (backup backup backup!!!)
everything that your asking can be done right from your .cpr. lots of people have asked the same thing be for, it's just the matter of typing just the right words into the search engine. try looking at this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529838
as for the carrier name, that's a little odd that it won't display the right one. maybe try "connection setup" to see if that helps.

What's with the Windows\Fonts folder?

Hi all.
Okay, I come from a PC development background, and the windows fonts folder is pretty straight-forward. You put a font in there and it is "installed" and becomes one of the fonts in any application that lists them.
The folder on Windows Mobile is empty though, and putting things in there has unusual effects!
I recently installed a lockscreen mod that someone made for WVGA devices, and it looked very nice. The problem was that it used a specific font, and doesn't work as well without it. So, the dev linked the font and I downloaded it and put it in the windows\fonts folder, as common sense would dictate. (The font is called lcars.ttf, btw.)
This font then started showing up in other applications though. One of the versions of the facebook app used it, and IE started to use it too. This is why I'm a bit "uhhh?" at the idea of the windows fonts folder on PPC.
I'm guessing that the apps that had problems were not using specifically named fonts, but as to why they defaulted to just "whatever's in that folder" is beyond me!
Can anyone explain that strange behaviour and, better still, suggest a fix for it?
I don't know why the fonts folder acts like this, but this has been the behavior since PPC2000 days. Instead, just copy the font to the \Windows folder. It will still be selectable AND other applications won't default to using it.

Font Change

How do I add a font style to the font section in personalize.
Download a font I am HTC themes app.
I figured someone would answer that.
I meant custom font. One the store doesn't have. I want a font I've been using elsewhere that condensed and bold that maximizes visibility and the amount you see on screen. All the stock fonts I. The store are just too big.
I have not done it on this phone, but on previous phones, it was just a matter of copying the fonts over to system/fonts and setting permissions using a file manager with root access. I assume on this one you don't need to rename the new font to replace the system fonts.
I think flip fonts work. If you search for HTC flip font apks or just search for flip font I think it will work.
I'm pretty sure there is a thread for them. If I find it I will add a link.
All of these work. Well, they should. I tested 2 and they showed up.

I'd like to use this font. How do I convert it to work.
Well, copy-pasting to /system/fonts didn't work. There must be some additional file(s) that need to be modified to install them on the M9. I'm going to keep looking and see if I can figure it out.
I think you do need to rename them to take place of the default font, unless you make them a flip font apk. But IDK how to do it. I thought there were instructions in the thread I linked but I couldn't find any. Probably wasn't searching very well though haha

I know how to do it that way, actually, as it's how you had to do it on the M7. That seems like unnecessary brute force for this phone, since it can accommodate other fonts. Just need to figure out how to install them. I tried unpacking one of those apks but couldn't find the instructions for what it was doing.
I pm'd the OP for help. Maybe he can explain.
There's an XDA-Power-Fonts.apk floating around somewhere here on XDA.... It has like 200 different fonts to choose from? You might search for that and see if your font is in that list?
You just install the .apk and then set it like normal fonts on HTC ROM's.
Wasn't in the apk pack. That's a shame.

With some help from @cbrown245, I figured out how to do it. I had the location wrong.
Whatever font you want to add has to be renamed DroidSans.ttf and dropped into data/data/HTCFonts/fontFolderName_x (the "x" is a number that may be 1 or 2 or something else).
Replace what's in there wth your font, set permissions to rw-r-r, and reboot. Your system may act up while you're doing this, since you're messing with an active system file.
Alternatively, drop the font into one of the zips in this thread.
