Something really strange is happening with my phone and i couldn't figure out what is.
I have been having many problems trying to download my email into my Excalibur Phone (doesn't matter if I use GPRS/EDGE or WIFI). I configure out everything, select send/receive and nothing happend. Exactly nothing, the phone doen't connect, no errors showed, etc. Also if I try to stop the send/receive option it also doesn't do anything and It keeps trying to stop.
The internet connection works well I can use the explorer and other applications to sync mail like funambol, but not the regular WM Client.
I've tried many different configurations and also different imap/pop providers, nothing happens. I also decided to try with version 6.1 and the same story happens again.
At the end I try to change the order I do the fresh install and suddenly the mail start working until I sync my device with the pc using the Windows Mobile Center 6.1. Yes aftet that It stop working with exactly the same behavior.
So, in resume starting my device with a fresh version of windows mobile 6 I can configure my imap/pop3 mail and it's work fine. I connect my phone to the PC to sync the contacts/calendar/tasks (no mail) and my mail stop working again (leaveing the same configuration or deleting it and configure it again).

What internet plan do you have exactly. Is it the 5.99 or the 19.99 one?
I live in Chile and the prices here are diferent. I dont have internet plan I pay per kbyte because I use more WIFI.
Did you run the connection wizard in the tools folder?
the connection wizard doesn't help me because the chilean parameters are not in the list. also i don't have any problem connectiong to internet, it works fine, the problem is with the mail client only.
I've discovered something new.
I restart from a fresh install of windows mobile 6.1 ricks v24. I connect to the inernet and sync my mail perfect.
Then I connected to phone to the PC to sync and set to sync ONLY the CONTACTS and it works fine. After it te phone continue working well and the mails continue working.
So I decided to take the next step, I went back to the Windows Mobile Center and enable to sync the Calendar also. After the sync finished, the problem returns. I cant connect to my mail again. It dont work.
Then I restarted the phone and went to the Windows Mobile Center and disable the Calendar sync. After the sync the calendar is deleted from my phone and the mail start working again. I can't figure out which is the relation between the mail and te calendar but something is happening here.

Here's the problem.
Whenever i click on the Sync tab on my today screen, it will start synchronizing all the folders in my email, download whatever emails, upload whatever emails and then it goes to "personal settings" and fails.
I get this message on my today screen in the windows live tab saying "Synchronization Failed.". Anyone experiencing this problem?
Its not that i have never synced before cause the last successful sync was on the 15 of april 2007 at 11:39Pm.
So i am quite boggled by this. I was thinking it was because i was connecting thru wifi, but even when i have it docked to my pc, it fails. I don't know where to start. I've checked my settings both on my dopod and also on my pc and also in windows live settings.
Anyone know anything about this issue i'm having?

I've got the same problem, whether I connect via WiFi or GPRS/UMTS
It used to work perfectly at all times, then it started working for only a few hours after a soft-reset, now it doesn't work at all bo matter what I do.
I noticed that sync is done automatically while I'm connected to messenger (and mails and contacts are synchronized ok), so everytime I want to check my emails I just connect to messenger for a while and then sign out...
any help is welcome !!

I found the cause of this issue... if u go to ur msn (windows live) on ur pc and get rid of your display picture then the sync will be successful on your PDA, however if u display a pic and then sync, it will fail... it doesnt seem to like exporting ur picture, however it will be down I think as Windows Live is merging with Xbox Live in may on the xbox 360, so it may be something which is being done at the moment! otherwise everything else will sync.
sync works for me now, with or without display pic
maybe it was a server problem...
Thanx man.. Your suggestion really worked. Also, do you know how i can merge my contacts? I have duplicate.. I tried renaming all of the contacts in MSN on my PC to suit my outlook.. but it still shows up different...
I found a way to merge contacts. Make sure the Name, IM and Email are exactly the same. And delete your windows live account, and then resync it again. it should then merge everything.
you could also try clearing the ie cache and temp files if you are not saving them the the storage card. I had the same problem I could only sync after a soft reset and usually only once. I noticed my mem had dropped to around 25mB or so when it is usually around 41mB. After clearing cache and temp files I very rarely have that problem and if I do, I free up more mem. Hope that helps

it just failed again - but worked without the display picture, you were right !!
I have problems with syncing my live contacts with Outlook 2007 in Vista..
Live contacts just don`t appier in the outlook, when I re-flash my device, I loose all the live contacts but on the next windows live sync my contacts just appier back with phone numbers and everything.. I wonder where is all the data keept, phone numbers and everything.. if it isn`t in outlook 2007 ??
I had this problem too! Will try what you suggested. Strange that it works for a few hours then stops. I found that signing in and out helped.
Does anyone know how to change the reply to address?
I get this error too but it still downloads my emails ? I think thats strange and alot of the time Messenger wont signin I get some weird error about it.

same for me, removed the display pic, works only sometimes...
Please don't shout at me coz I've Googled and searched this forum but can't see anyone with my problem (which I guess means it is my problem?)
I can sync wirelessly with our hosted Exchange server and Calendar items and Contact items sync from Exchange to my Black 2.0 Tytn OK. Emails however do not. They just appear to be ignored completely. I think it worked OK with Black 1.2 but I can't be absolutely sure.
Is there some email setting I have missed somewhere?
what's wrong with the WLM synchronisation? :S it's been doing this for days now.
EDIT: for me, i can seem to get my WLM to fully synchronise if i don't synchronise my email.. i think the problem (in my case) is because my Live messenger address is not a real email address (it's a forwarding address which is linked to my real email account).
I'll toss my hat in the ring alongside those getting this 'synchronization failed' error. I receive all my emails ok, however messenger shows all my contacts as offline (but I must be logged in, as people can message me), and my display name only shows my email address. This has only begun in the last day or so. I am running Windows Mobile 6 Black 2.5 Telstra.
I have tried a soft reset and also using 'switch account' to see if that would recreate the connection, but no go. I'm not sure if it covers mobiles but Microsofts MSN status pages shows no known issues.
A colleague of mine has his working fine on the same device/software I have.
This is driving me nuts!
I find if I clear the password and login again it works.
Activesync has very nice logging, does anyone know how to turn logging on for Live?
I have my domain hosted by live i.e. my mx records point to live. Wonder if this kind of account is a problem?

i recently got a vista laptop and so far has numerous times encoutered this error wherein i had to recreate my sync partnership only to delete again the partnership and recreate it.
it has been a cycle i have been going thru and so far i have been doing it over and over without a succesful sync.
help or advise anyone?
What sync...6.1or 4.5? I find that 4.5 is more stable and have had a few problems with 6.1
im using the windows mobile 6.1 version, so far it keeps on giving me problems since day 1.
it wojuld sync for awhile, then have a problem, had to ask to delete partnership and re sync, then work again for awhile, then the problem again. hate it!

If your device and WMDC dont connect, just kill wmdc.exe process and start WMDC again. Works for me.
actually they do connect, the problem is it keeps on giving me an error that i had sync again since an "error" as occurred, and says if it still doesnt work, i had to delete the partnership and sync again.
it keeps on going over and over.

Give more info... Like what office are you using 2003 or 2007 as 6.1 works with 2007 and 4.5 works best with 2003. If you have no office and just use windows mail or outlook express, then you would not be able to sync your e-mail or calendar. When it comes to sync, just try syncing your Mobile Favorites....or don't sync and be a guest....make sure that you in "connection settings that "allow USB connections" is checked. If you have Bluetooth adapter, try pairing it and syncing with that. Uninstall 6.1 and Install 4.5....Check for updates. I know that a while back there was a couple for Mobile sync center. You can go to the control panel and open up sync center and that would tell you whats going on.... also check your event viewer. Critical errors/ RapiMgr. should give you an event number... probably 6....go to online help and that will give you info........also will show you the errors in detail. With Vista make sure that the time on your PPC is the same as your computers time.
Also do a disk cleanup on your PC and install a reg cleaner on your PPC, you probably have a ton of errors...like memmaid
Its a new laptop ... spanking brandnew on windows vista and microsoft office 2007. jsut 5 day old, and installed vista fresh; downloaded the microsoft device center and for a time it sync ok; then the problem started and just wont stay fixed.
now, a temporary fixed is i installed pocket mirror instead of using the built in conduits, and so far so good i am able to make successful syncs.
I guess it is whatever works.... I have Vista Ultimate x4 and was in the Beta testing program. If you ever want to find out why it did not work, go into your control panel and open up "problems Reports solutions" and view your problem history...might even give you a solution

Anyone got a CAB file for ActiveSync? or could someone create one for me please? I have installed Farias/DrP's ROM, their ActiveSync install won't sync up with my server, I have installed other WM6.1 ROMS which all work ok, I've tried a different Radio ROM just in case but it still doesnt seem to want to work. I like the ROM and would rather just replace the dodgy app if possible.
would suggest re-installing activesync on computer than stuffing around with your hermes. I've got Dr p/Faria's rom running and have no sync problems. As a point I generally try active sync after a flash but if it doesnt work re-install and delete all paired files. This wont get rid of your contacts because they're stored in outlook. Just remember NOT to replace all items on the computer when prompted as THIS MAY DELETE ALL CONTACTS. As I've said I've had no trouble syncing however. I've found that leaving the hermes on too long and not doing anything may corrupt the os resulting in me having to hard reset or reflash. Be warned.... Hope this helps..
I'm having somewhat of the same problem but my active sync sync's but when I look in my out box my mail is still there so every time I sync it continues to resend the mail that's in the outbox. So what I've been doing is deleting it out of the outbox once it's done syncing. Also I've noticed that when active sync is running it goes to a all white screen with a black outline around the screen never seen that before I’m use to seeing the green circular motion movement. "(I use ActiveSync to use the over the air PUSH capability from my corporate server )" Me too.
OK maybe I wasn't clear enough.... ActiveSync works if you have a cable plugged in e.g. you can set up a pairing with your PC and the Device over a wire, I use ActiveSync to use the over the air PUSH capability from my corporate server thus the cable is surplus to requirements unless I need to charge the device. There is another person in the Faria/DrP thread with the same problem.
Mods please delete, server probs at work, don't need this any more....

I too could use a cab installation of activesync. does that even exist out there or is it something that is only ever cooked directly into the ROM? I love my current rom except for the ASync errors. Anyone with a cab, please speak up now...
No Activesync
I too am having problems connecting my phone to WMDC on a recently purchased imate 8502, I upgraded the rom to WM6.1 and the phone is no longer recognised by pc at all. Having looked through the programs on the phone and browsed the directories on the device, I cannot find activesync on the phone at all! The only hint is an empty folder, but there is no executable for activesync anywhere, which would probably explain why so many ppl can't get thier 8502's to connect to thier pc's after upgrading!
We need an activesync.cab to install!

Go to messaging\Setup E-mail and just use automatic setup and it will connect via POP3.
Doesn't work POP3 either, I did it before and nothing....I was searching on internet and most of peoples said that use IMAP4 but nothing....

I have the same problem. I have the unlimited plan and I get the "connection error" and I it asks for my login and password over and over. I only have this problem with 6.1. I have tried the T-mobile email plugin, and the other 3 ways of adding an email account.
Wierd thing is, I backed up my 6.0 data before the swap to 6.1 with Sprite backup. When I restore to the 6.1 I get me email back and it works fine, problem is that it really screws up most of the stuff I got with 6.1.
I also have the same issue.
My Yahoo and Gmail worked fine on 6.0.
6.1 Yahoo refused to work until just the other day...It has not worked since the 6.1 install until now...
Gmail will not work either no matter what... It did download the headers, but it shows nothing and will not work otherwise...
if you guys want tell me the screens you need and ill get you the settings that work for me.
I tried a lot of option and nothing guys, let see what I do....I did POP & IMAP and nothing..I tried Yahoo and doesn't work either instead they work fine through IE.
I did it POP as default and "works" sometimes, when you click on send/receive gave you the Connection ERROR....and when the system did by itself work good ( I think)...

I don't know if someone else is having this problem.... My Windows Mobile Device Center is not synchronizing, I get an ERROR....
I just noticed something, if I only configure one Exchange Server the WMDC works OK, but if I have more than one it doesn't work.
Why two?
One is for my works email, and the other one is for synchronizing Google contacts.

I have had the same problem what i needed to do & this is the same for XP with active sync, there is a setting (depends which rom u use) for active sync that allows for faster sync u need to uncheck this setting because it wont work with all usb's and if you are using a usb on the case most likely is not a usb 2.0. each time i switch this setting off active sync works again.
