Samung i830 ROM anywhere? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I recently did some digging around in my closet and found my old ip830 sitting in the bottom of a box. Still in really good condition I thought I might take on the project of getting it running so that I could maybe have it as a backup to my mogul or maybe to sell. The problem is that I remember tossing it in that box because it had a problem with the software that kept making the phone go to some kind of airplane mode. It would go into airplane mode upon hanging up. the only way to reverse this, at least to make another call, was to hard reset. Anyway, ive bee trying to find another ROM that could work on for months. I dont care what version it is WM2003, WM5, whatever. Just trying to un brick this thing any way I can.

Need some advice. Bootloader

Hey guys,
I finally got my 2nd hermes flashed the way I wanted it when I realized the camera wasn't being recognized. After trying other roms which also had the same issue, I decided to try the windows mobile that came with it. Installed it back and sure enough, no camera. So I have a new phone coming through the warranty exchange. I have the original radio and os on it, however I still have the Opri bootloader on it. Is there a way to flash that back as well? Will they even look that deep into the phone? When the get it back if the determine the phone to be 'out of warranty' due to whatever reason, they charge you $495...
Thanks,
nomb
Wow, 61 views and no one has any suggestions?
...JS..
I've had to get new phone through the warranty exchange due to not being able to make calls, but could receive them. I had flashed numerous roms, but managed to get it back to original. Didn't have original radio on it though, and heard nothing from them. I'm not sure how deep they dig, but if they missed the radio, they musted go to far.

This mentions how to downgrade the SPL however I don't think it is too much of an issue.
at least you have a few responses!!
Thanks guys. I will hopefully be able to get the bootloader back down, and then it will be fully back to normal. Guess what tho. I got my new hermes in the mail today, and it was messed up and wouldn't let you put the stylus in it... After like 2 hours and numerous calls and a lot of frustration, I'm getting a free keiser!!! woot!!!

I had a similar issue this week.
My phone died, it lost the radio rom and nothing I could do would get it to function as a phone again. Though I was sure they wouldn't be happy getting a phone back to be repaired under warranty that had been flashed.
I couldn't downgrade the boot loader, but I did manage to get the original ROM on it with some jiggery pokery. It wouldn't take any rom with a radio rom included. So took the radio rom out of the original operators release and it took that no worries. Now when powered up it had the operators splash screen but then came up NO GSM.
They must have liked it as I got a brand new handset yesterday, not a refurb. So guess what I will be doing later.........flash flash flash.
I don't think they look that deeply at them, probably see if it will power up, then try to cure all ill's by flashing it with the latest operator ROM.
Always suspected they didn't look to deep. Probably get loads returned from people flashing etc. Interesting if we could get someone on board who actually works there and get their response

Compact IV Frozen on T-Mobile Splash Screen - HELP

Anyone able to assist. I have searched the forum.
After my compact froze I did a soft reset only to see it hang on the T-Mobile splash screen (white background, pink dots). The ROM details do not even appear in the bottom right hand corner.
I have upgraded my ROM with Hard-SPL, a Radio ROM and Dutty's 1.8 ROM but that was weeks ago.
Not even a Hard-Reset sorts it out.
Cannot see how the new ROM would be causing the problem as it has worked for a few weeks.
Luckily followed all the instructions and have 1.40 Olinex Hard-SPL on the phone. Just need to wait for home so I can plug it into my laptop. What I do from that point on will be the subject of a further search of this board later.
Any assistance?
Since you already have Hard-SPL, try first flashing a stock ROM.
See here for available ROM's: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Diamond_Upgrades
Let us know what the results are...
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I cannot get my Compact to sync with my PC in order to add a stock ROM. As I am frozen on the T-Mobile screen the Mobile Device Center does not connect to the Compacy.
Are there any work arounds?
Oh well back it goes to T-Mobile with the hope that they do not identify that the ROM has changed.
Happened to me before as well.
Start your Phone in bootloader mode. Means you hold down the Volume down button while soft resetting. Then you get to the red, green, blue, white screen. In the bottom it says "serial". once you connect to the PC it switches to "usb" and now you can flash ANY ROM you like. I replaced mine with the same ROM I had before....
Don't know what happened to cause this problem. But I got it solved that way.
Let me know if this worked....
Cheers for the reply Staty.
I was able to get the USB connection to work but after reloading the ROM the phone has gone off and stayed off. Can't get any splash screen now.
But you were able to completely reflash the ROM?
Or did it stop along the way?
Did not stop along the way. Went to 100% and was met by the finished screen on the PC. However the Compact does not turn in now.
So you try to turn it on but nothing happens?
Did you try hooking the phone to the loading cable and then turn it on? Maybe a problem with the bettery?
Besides that I got no idea right now.
Which ROM did you reflash? The same you used before?
Hi,
You must download full rom (with radio etc.), the best original. Doesn't matter which one. And hard reset after that.

Tried hooking it up to the loading cable, the charger and still no luck.
Have no idea why it will not start-up. Do not even get the white circular light when plugged into the charger.

Yep done all that. Compact still dead. Changed ROM about 3 weeks ago, no problems just stopped working altogether. Was able to connect it to the PC to update ROM again but now nothing.
Not sure how having Hard-SPL on the phone is gonna help when the thing wont turn on.

Here wot fella.... Yesterday i called t-mobile cause my mda was running kinda hot for some reason, With no effort the lady said it shouldn't be getting that hot (like she could feel the heat over the phone lol) "i'm going to send you a replacement for tomorrow morning" Today, So me thinking a refurbished phone and no screen protector, i asked if they could send me a screen protector, No she said, i'm sending you a brand new phone "in the box" so all the bits will be there.......
Brilliant i get a new mobile..... Here is the best bit....
UPS turns up this morning with a brand new phone.. the guy asks me for the old phone ONLY, didn't take back old batt, headset...etc put it in a bag and away he went......
So i get a brand new phone (BOXED) and get to keep all the old accessories.
So the moral of the story is..... RMA your mobile, tell t-mobile its over heating and pray too god you get the same woman on the phone that i did...!
P.s..... Out of curiosity, Which cooked rom was you using...!

I used Dutty's 1.8, but It is not a problem with the ROM, I'm sure of that.

Thats really wiered. Looks like there is more broken than the ROM. Did you try taking out the battery and keeping it out for a little time.
Try to turn on the phone without the battery in it - so all the power in the condensers etc. will be gone.
Keep the battery separated from the phone for a couple hours and then try it again.
I was having the trouble back then, that the more often I tried to turn the phone on while it was broken it turned off itself even quicker. after I left it without touching it an hour it took longer to turn off itself again.
P.P.S and remember so say its the bottom part off the phone or they may try palm you off with its "the battery"...!

Called them and put on my nicest charm with a young lady. She actually read out a T-Mobile notice release that said there was a known fault with the phones over-heating during charge and large downloads. It said that customers should be told that it is safe and a software update coming out soon would sort it out.
I told here the phone no longer worked and she said that they would replace but I should keep all accesories and the battery. I said that as it doesn't turn on it could be the battery and she agreed to a FULL replacement.
They are sending it to my work on Monday and will take the old one away.
Thanks for the advice, was really worried they would want it back for testing BEFORE sending out a new one and they may find my Custom ROM
All good though. Thanks again.

I left the battery overnight but still no luck.
I am pretty certain it'saphone fault now and absolutely nothing to do with ROM's. T-Mobile are now thankfully taking it back.
Cheers

3 button download/recovery mode saved my butt.

Within the 14 days return policy I took my Galaxy back after it bricked for no reason. I was almost stock other than unlocking it and running ADW. Too many things wrong with them so I gave it one more chance with a replacement. The new one has a working recovery/download mode so that's the biggie for me. The lag seems better and the GPS actually works. Great, I feel better. But I decided that I won't root it yet since 2.2 is coming soon. I'll let it flash as designed before digging deep.
Yeah, right. After noticing that the WiFI is still flaky at random times I turned it off again today when it wasn't passing any data. 3G still working so fine. But then the Market started to FC which I've not seen at all. I shut it down and rebooted again which is the fix for my WiFI. Well, it once again decided to brick just like the last one. I get past the logos and then just a black screen. She's bricked and I didn't even root it this time. Only thing not stock was ADW launcher instead of the Samsung thing that I don't like.
So I put her into recovery mode and did a factory reset. That fixed it and I setup all over again. Luckily with 2.1 you get a list of all your previously installed apps in Market the first time you enter so if you don't leve the app you can quickly install everything again. 20 minutes later I'm back in business except this time I'll stick with the launcher it came with, can't think of anything else that would cause this sudden bricking other than the wonder phone might be a piece of crap. I just don't know yet.
By reading the title I thought you meant that Samsungs new update to activate the 3 button combo had saved you. Having a phone with download mode enabled is quite hard to brick, you can always just put it into download mode and reflash with Odin.
That's the point, my replacement phone came with the update that Samsung is pointing people to. Labeled the same as the previous update but indeed has the button thing fixed. Until the next update comes along I'm not touching Odin or anything else, these phones have enough troubles as it is. I'm still concerned that mine bricked again simply by turning it on.

This is just my opinion but I don't think the phone would have come with the update, it would have just been an untainted unit that didn't exhibit this problem. Only a subset of new units were lacking the download and recovery modes and the fix released a couple of days ago was designed to correct that problem.
These modes are a standard feature of pretty much any Android device.
At any rate, good to hear that you have a fully functioning unit out of the box. I had to go to some length explaining and demonstrating the issue to the store from which I got my unit lacking these modes as well as my carrier until the fix came out and I fixed it myself.
I don't know either. I based my guess on the fact that Sam's fix happened to be an update that version matches what mine now shows. And my situation is a prime example why all phones need this mode. Not everyone would fix it the way I did but it only cost me 30 minutes and a few curse words because my pictures are all gone before I could get them off but I'm back up and running and that had to save somebody a few hundred dollars.
I'm still very nervous though, it did brick this morning without me doing anything. This time I don't even have NoLED or ADW but I can't leave it that way forever. My trusty Magic is way more tolerant of OS abuse.

[Q] SDS? Hardware or Software Issue?

I am in need of help! My phone is dead. Here's the rundown
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II (i317)
Used on the Straight Talk Network
Running the latest Unofficial CM12, Lollipop 5.01 for the last week and loved every bit of it. No problems.
I cracked my screen in July and never got it fixed. The cracks spread and I was planning on getting it fixed, but haven't yet. I dropped it two days ago and then the screen wouldn't come back on. The buttons lit up and it would even ring when called. So I thought my screen was finally gone and started looking for a replacement. I took the battery out because I didn't want it ringing without the ability to answer it. Yesterday I put the fully charged battery in and attempted to turn the phone back on. It will not come back on and I think it's more than just the screen now.
Red LED blinks. Half of the screen seems like it is turning on, but then it all goes dark again. Will not enter Download or Recovery. I've been reading and thinking this is more of a hardware issue than software. I've flashed dozens of Roms with only minor issues here and there. I haven't had any issue with Lollipop and can't see it being related, although I could really be wrong.
My question is, is my phone dead? Do I need a new motherboard, along with the screen I was already gonna replace? If that's the case, I will just replace the phone and start over, unless anyone has free parts they want to donate, LOL! Seriously, just looking for input and suggestions.
Thanks

There's pretty much nothing to say, but I guess I will.
You can't get to download mode, can't get to recovery mode, you can't see the screen......
If you're looking for a second opinion to say you're f*cked, then consider this it.
If you could get to download mode or recovery mode, it has a chance. But you still have hardware issues like the screen to replace. Which is not fun.
Possible yes. But unless you really know what you're doing and careful as hell, you take the chance of hosing something else up. Like ripping a ribbon cable or yanking a soldered wire out....
I tried replacing a Motorola Atrix screen. The result of that was me buying an Atrix 2.
Unless you are emotionally attached to this phone, bury it.

I did some quick searches and doesn't appear to be any kind souls out there with spare parts. You may want to try CraigList or something like that.
Good luck to you

Hey, Thanks man! That's what I needed to hear. I have been flashing Roms since I had a Sprint PPC 6700 and I have enough experience to now I was f#@$ed, but I really needed to hear it from someone else. Someone with developer experience. A screen assembly and motherboard cost more than another phone on ebay or Swappa. Welp, back to the drawing board. Anyone got a note 2 they wanna sell cheap?

No worries.
Feb 3 I'll be on 2 years with my Note 2. Longest I've kept one. Only have one smallish crack on the lower left corner.
With everything I've done to it I'm amazed it's still working.

Wrong Wrong Loaded GSM to CDMA

So I bought a phone with a cracked screen, replaced the digitizer and screen. Then unlocked it and rooted, flashed a rom, etc. It's a Verizon phone and wanted to put it on Pageplus. Somewhere along the way... I've screwed it up by flashing the wrong ROM. The phone is a SCH-i605v. I've flashed international version of GT-N7100 on it. I did try to go the support route... thinking the broadband and imei were just wiped out somehow. The professional online service told me it was trashed. Well... considering they also said they have never seen a phone that still boots wiped out this bad... I'm not doing too bad. I just have a Tablet with no phone functions at this point. Now... I'm thinking there is always a way... it's just finding the one person who has the knowledge to fix it. Anyone out there like a challenge?
I would really appreciate any insight into this. I'm perfectly willing to take it to Samsung if that's required... but it's an hour drive away so I'm dragging my feet on it since the girl put me on hold and never came back. For some reason that just pisses me off... they need to hire better phone people.
just try odin and proper rom.
there is thread with rescue firmwares, start with that and go back to stock.
