Being sold at Best Buy - HTC Cavalier

Not really anything completely amazing, but I was looking for the Touch Diamond on the website and saw that the S630 is being sold.
Its like $460, which is way too much, but maybe HTC didnt completely ditch this phone.

Simple question

I own, and love, a HTC s620. It seems like the LCD is about to die on it, though. My question to you is, should I buy another s620 ($80 - $100) or get a s630 (over $200)? I like the idea of being able to use 3g and having a more powerful phone, but from what I've read it seems like the WM6.1 rom has issues. I'm just wondering if it's an upgrade that really justifies the extra money?
You could just get a new LCD for around $30-40. I owned 2 S620s before converting to the S630 and I'm loving it. The speedier processor is very noticeable and I feel like it also surfs the net faster than my S620 did (I'm not using 3G). As far as the camera goes, I honestly couldn't notice much of a difference. Battery life is also very similar if at all different. It does seem a little beefier, but when compared side-by-side it is exactly the same. I don't know if I'm crazy, but I like the keyboard in the S630 a lot better. However, when looking at it, it doesn't seem to be any different than the S620's. Another advantage of the S630 is the JOGGR strip is more perpendicular to your face when using the phone due to the boxier shape, making it more difficult to accidentaly tap it when calling.
Bottom line, if money is an issue, I'd just get a new LCD and replace it. There are plenty of DIY guides floating around, it isn't that hard at all. If you're willing to spend some cash, get the S630. They're actually going for around $170ish on eBay in great condition.
Maybe I'm missing something on ebay right now, but I only see one s630 and it's going for $270 buy it now.
That's way higher than what they've been going for, just keep checking. I purchased mine for $192.00 2 weeks ago and I've seen them go for $160. I wouldn't spend more than $210 shipped for one.
i ebayed mine for 212$ brand new tho...

Dash or Behold

I have a chance to trade my Ooka 3vo 2.0 rom Dash for a mint Samsung Behold........should i?
i got til tonight to decide.
i wouldnt, my dad has a behold, its not that great of a phone, and you cant customize it very much.
What??
Are you talking of getting rid of Excalibur to get another brand?
The model looks good but remember: You won't have the great support of this site with any other than HTC devices
Good luck on your decision
thanks smjfosho.......i just finished looking at the behold forum.looks like you can customize alot.....but thanks for your reply

I think if you really want a behold, get one when you can afford to buy it, and keep the dash, you won't regret it. I got a htc Tilt now and wouldn't think of getting rid of my dash, ever since I bought it , it has had a case, screen protector, it's been over a year, never seen the floor, and it still looks brand new. I still think that the dash is a bada$$ phone.
Don't do it!
the reason I got a Dash as my replacement phone is because of the helpful people on this forum!

You are right.I do love my Dash. It`s badass looking thanks to Ooka and everyone here who helped me.I just thought a Behold would be an upgrade,a step up.......but, i`m keeping my Dash.
Thanks guys.....
Great decision!
As rolo said, when you got some extra $, buy another device and do the upgrade but keep your Excalibur!
the only downfall of the dash is the camera (wish you could upgrade it somehow LOL), but i know its an old phone.
i love the dash's simplicity yet being able to do everything.
Well i'm just hopeing that the time of the advertised swap is over and you didn't do it
Just gonna echo other users i use Tilt as main device yet sat next to me on the trusty computer table is teh Dash still looking the same as it did when turned up oh except the OS.
I'm looking into a Tornado but not gonna sell the Dash
Didn`t do it.....
I kept my Dash. You all are right......Save $ and get another phone, but keep the Dash...It`s like family here!......Since we all are family, who wants to borrow me some money?
Take care y`all.
lol I know you've already made a decision to keep your HTC phone...
a smart one too
but anyway, if you EVER buy a samsung, don't get it used =P
most Samsung phones are made cheap

it is great if you like real keyboard and big screen.
This is my 3rd Windows Mobile phone, and I also had the iPhone 3GS. This is BY FAR the best phone I have ever owend, used, or seen. I'm a picky SOB and do my research before buying anything. This is definitely the best phone, and I will continue to be an HTC customer. They got it 100% right on this one!!
best phone
I bought 2 just to play with.
I have dropped my main one on concrete probably 7 times(not on purpose), got minor dings, but no major functionality issues. flashed rom from SD card and computer probably a hundred times, Hard SPLed it while wasted drunk and still this thing is kickin.
Top notch phone would recommend!
From my point of veiw it is an awsome phone, Try to get it cheap though, as cheaply as possible, because as you probably know htc has the leo out and its only a matter of time for a leo like phone with that 1ghz processor with a keyboard attached. There are plenty of people around asking for it so its bound to happen. So Save some money where you can and buy the tp2 through a carrier and get it through someone who is gsm not cdma so when a new phone comes out you can just pop out the sim and you have a new phone

Great phone, by far my Favorite! It is especially good with a cooked rROM with the My Location Weather in the clock. If you get it through an online retailer (not AT&T directly) with service or as an upgrade you can save some cash.
Try:
amazon
Walmart
NewEgg
can't remember some of the others.

Nothing just use it. Then after your sure you like it Hard SPL it and try a cooked ROM. The stickies in the ROM Development forum will help you once you ready to flash some new ROMs.

What exactly will the roms do for me, and is there any in particular that you would recommend?
Guess I'll be the devil's advocate. My experience with the TP2 is that it's still too slow, whether it's the OS or processor I don't know, but it needs a big boost in speed. I'm definitely grabbing a Snapdragon device when it's available because the TP2 is just a slug.

The stock ROM that came with my AT&T Tilt 2 was actually not too bad at all. I was much quicker and responsive than I was used to on my Tilt 1, even wit it running a custom ROM.
What a ROM for the XDA "cooks" will remove a lot of bloatware from the carriers (trial app that they want you to pay for). This will free up space and resources and can help make you phone more responsive. It can also add feature from the more recent HTC TouchFlo 3D, such as the weather clock. It give you your weather in the clock and with My location service will give your the weather for where you happen to be at the moment. Other nice app included in most cooked ROMs is the Mobile WiFi app. basically allow you to turn you phone into a wireless access point.
I'm using this ROM currently:

I'd honestly say the Touch Pro2 is the best mobile device I've ever had (you can see my past devices in my signature). The screen and keyboard are the best part about the TP2, but the whole thing is near perfect. Whether you're new or old to the Windows Mobile scene, I'd say this is an excellent device which you should most certainly consider.
Hey thanks guys for answering my questions, and thanks lowteckh for giving me another opinion on the matter but, Im getting a new phone in the next two weeks and I'm sure the snapdragon will not come out by then so it will have to be the TP2.
If you particularly want a phone with a hard QWERTY keyboard that runs Windows Mobile then you should check out the Samsung B7610 (a.k.a. Omnia Pro). If you don't want a physical keyboard then you probably don't want a TP2.
There are already Snapdragon-powered devices on the market: the Toshiba TG01, and Acer F1 (a.k.a. NeoTouch) both run Windows Mobile. HTC's own HD2 will be available from T-Mobile UK on Monday. (Of course none of them have physical keyboards).
If you're in America, and you think you don't want Windows Mobile, then the Motorola Droid is worth checking out. The Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS are also worth a look.
Thanks for all the feedback guys, and I like that keyboard on the samsung, it looks solid, but im not a samsung fan . I purchased a Sprint TP2 yesterday and should be getting it soon, Im very excited

I have both the Moment and TP2 I have to say I love the tilt feature of the TP2 the moment has some battery issues and wifi is quirky, broswer are not good, but the App store is awesome. Tp2 best features are automatic profiling and Wifi Router, serving 3g speeds to my friend's Iphone. You made a great choice.

Worth the trade???

Gentleperson here is offering to trade my Touch HD for a Touch Pro 2 (and some cash)....worth it?...if so....how much cash is fair?
Thank you...
So you want the TP2 right?
In that case go for it!!
If you check in marketplace you´ll see that TP2 (t.mobile) is around 350-400USD, if it´s the unbranded price is higher.
Thank you Orb...man...60 people and no opinions...a little help ... please? How about the $$$?
How much cash was offered? $50? $100? More?
Any idea if the TP2 is unbranded or not?
Edit: Also, any reason you want the TP2 instead of an HD? I was thinking I would prefer the HD over the TP2.

I miss the video out...can you believe I'm even thinking of going back to Fuze?
ummm... no.
I just got my TP2 (Tilt 2) and coming from a Fuze I would not want to go back. If I had a choice I would stick with the HD, but I've only used the video out a few times.
Wait, a Touch2 or a Touch Pro2? There's a huge difference. The Touch2 is a QVGA budget phone running Manila 2D, that looks to be nothing special, and is clearly nowhere near as good as the Blackstone. However, the Touch Pro2 is an excellent device featuring a nearly perfect HW keyboard, amazing speakers, a vivid &sensitive touchscreen, and excellent overall build quality. If it's a Touch Pro2 and you want a keyboard, I'd say definitely go for it. It's essentially a Blackstone with a keyboard.

goodbye touch pro 2

it seems after a year of having the tp2 its just not for me.
in the 1st week i had it, i had to exchange the handset as it was faulty. since then its been repaired a few times and i had enough. so after a complaint or 2 vodafone have offerd to replace it for a new handset and ive gone for the desire.
i have a feeling that i will miss the slide out qwerty keyboad, but only time will tell.
but im glad that i will be having a phone with a faster processor and one that weighs alot less then the tp2.
i wasnt keen on flashing the rom ect, but i loved the phone because every other ****er i know hasnt got one or seen one before lol
ii would just like to thank everyone that has helped me out with my tp2 when i was after apps and tweeks and maybe you can help me once again when i get the new phone
I've been a loyal WM user for a few years, but the days of WM6 are sunsetting. The Desire is a nice phone, I'd be willing to trade up to that, given an opportunity like yours. Android is a sweet OS to have now, with plenty of apps, customization, and nice hardware. And if flashing ROMs is your thing, have no fear. Android/Desire has plenty of custom ROMs. Just root the thing and flash away!
i havnt a clue if your on a contract or not, have insurance ect, had your phone exchanged before or repaired or not? but it maybe worth calling your network operator to see if they can do anything for you.
I was told this is being done as a good will jesture and wont be done again. and if i dont like the desire then they will not be exchanging it.
depending who ya speak to and what the problems are they may offer you something similar.
i was without my tp2 for 4 weeks just for a software downgrade, the deep scratches on the side of the keyboard was not repaired, and the screen was alot less sensative when it was returned.
and because they dont have the TP2 anymore thaty why i got the desire.
I woulda payed a bit more for the desire Z tbh with the keyboard. i have a feeling that i will miss that lol

Unfortunately, I'm on AT&T in the US. They sold their souls to Apple to gain iPhone exclusivity, and therefore only offer budget priced low-spec Android devices. Even the announced Windows Phone 7 devices coming from ATT look pretty disappointing.
I'll motor on with my trusty TP2/Tilt2 for a while longer. And seeing as I'm only one year into my contract, if anything happens to my phone, or I feel like switching (before I'm eligible for an upgrade), I'll likely seek an unlocked Android phone compatible with ATT's network.
Though I would naturally enjoy a faster processor and more memory, it would take a lot for me to abandon the wonderful size and form factor of the Touch Pro 2. Spacious, but not bulky. Best keyboard in the market, tiltscreen, large and responsive screen... Plus, Sense+Cookie makes for a great user experience and very attractive interface.
I understand your position and I think you made a good choice, given the situation. On the other hand, I have had my TP2 for a couple of months now and it is working like a breeze. I wouldn't change it of anything without a physical qwerty keyboard containing dedicated numerical keys.

just bought myself a htc tP2 and the work excellent. i had android in a while, but failed to satisfy my requirements.
Love Mine
I would be hard pressed to get rid of my TP2, I dont care about the bulk. The keyboard, and touch screen response is great, plus in my business, having the confrence speaker setup is the best.
We have 1 other WM6 phone in the houyse, of course hacked, and 2 androids, Rooted, lol. But there screens just dont do it, i like the ability to use a stylis, or a quick touch, the androids just dont have it.
I have had my Rhodium since they were released, never had a single thing go wrong with it (hardware wise) the most Ive done hardware wise is replace the screen protector. I think its a great phone (Although a little underpowered.)
I have my TP2 since it came to the stores... I got it a day or two earlier as one of my friends works in a tel. shop. I still love the phone, the design etc.. The only thing which I don't like is the ROM.. That's why I flashed one of the NRG ROM's on it.
However I think my next phone will be a HTC phone with a full qwerty keyboard and Android on it. Pretty much like the HTC Desire Z.
The TP2 was the best phone I had. In my opionion it's outdated though. I traded my TP2 for a BB Bold 9700 Which I then sold of course, why do I want a blackberry
Then I bought a broken Desire and fixed it
With Swype, I almost don't miss the hardware keys
i started using my desire yesternight, havnt had time to set it up yet. i do miss some of the features that the tp2 has but do like having a faster phone without any flashing, and less bulk in my pockets. i forgot i had a phone in my pocket today tbh. lol
