Does the new Orange ROM suck?! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hey folks
Really wanna upgrade my Diamond ROM, noticed the new release from Orange but my question is simple. Is it any good?
I hear great things about the leaner, cleaner ROMs cooked up here and would much rather go for something a little more snappy.
Is there any real difference?

it's faster, but the biggest difference is the lack of transition animation between tabs.

Its got to be much better than the shipped one on the older supply of Orange diamonds
ROM 37 radio 05

HEY GUYS, soooo I upgraded.
I haven't noticed a better radio signal yet, it seem the same in my lead-lined office which was the main reason I wanted to upgrade
Everything else also seems pretty much the same. Not faster, not slower, larger text in some menus which is nice but I did that myself anyway.
In short, yes, it sucks

I don't even remember what mine had on it, but my friend's had the .03 Radio on it. Flashing it to the posted link, speeds it up significantly. I didn't leave him with a cooked ROM as I'm sure I'd have a phone call not knowing what to do and unable to install cabs.

Which rom is better? Imate Jasjar or Ivan

Can users of both roms (the Imate Jasjar or Ivan) care to comment on which rom is better? I am running the Ivan beta13 and want to know whether it makes sense to switch.
Thanks.

On my mda pro, ivan's beta 13 works very good. the imate rom does not work so good, it is slow and sometimes my device freezes.

I'v tried Ivan's beta 8, 10, 12, 13, and both roms from Jwrightmcps; on my qtek9000 Jwrightmcps's Jasjar rom works definitively better.
Hi Xanadu, could you please more specific on where you see as better? Just a general comment on "better" does not really help me to decide... Thanks.
Hi stanip !
Try both ROMs and you will see which ROM works better on YOUR Universal.
That's the best way to make a decision...
Understand your point re testing it out.
Each rom update took me a fair bit of time (2-3 hours) as I need to reinstall about 10 softwares to my Universal and I need to reenter all the password, settings...etc.
Getting tired of keeping on refreshing... Hope to leverage the experience of other forumers.
Thanks.
My own experience...
I have not used Jwrightmcps's as much (just started playing with it in the last couple of days), but it seams better overall for me. I'm using a MDA Pro on T-Mobile.
It also seams quicker. It's all very subjective at the moment. Biggist factor is probably simply that I have not 'fully loaded' it with tonnes of apps yet.
Things I've noticed which I don't think would be effected by all teh apps being installed.
For Jwrightmcps's :
It does not freeze/loose signal with phone like it did with Ivan's Beta 13. But then I have also switched to Radio 1.11. I don't tink this is the reason though (old radio was fine prior to AKU3.2)
The camera software does not have as much noise on the Screen.
I don't like the Battery Icon on Today screen at the bottom. It shows full till battery is down to around 60%.
Love having USB Drive mode
Laptop finds more BT Profiles.
I'm hoping the competition drives both forward. But since nobody is actually being paid to do anything, don't see why it should. Many thanks to both for all the efforts they are making.

I agree with Zuber, plus I need smartdialer for my 1200 contact, but Ivan's beta 13 rom don't have smartdialer; as I installed it separetely, it took 6 MB RAM.
Sure, the best way is testing both then you can decide....
Jwrightmcps's has more thing than I-Van's but sometime It freezes

Shadow thoughts

so i decided to go with the shadow after having the dash for a bit. I must say after i upgraded to the rom to the latest tmo rom
this phone is VERY snippy and fast
lots of program memory avalible 75.00mb avalible
and storage memory is 149.00mb avalible
not bad phone overall no issues
Though have to do some tweeking to get the homescreens other than that good phone
your thoughts?
My first thought would be, I don't understand what your asking.
Are you bragging? Or trying to start a war?
I had a Shadow, it sucked for my needs, I sent it back and got a Dash.
Sounds like you already made up your mind on what phone you like best, so I would post in a forum that supports the Shadow.
UMMMM haha ok laughing at you
im asking what is everyones thoughts on this phone i have for 14 days loved the dash though this shadow seems faster looking for thoughts this way i can totally make up my mind
What bragging no bragging. What war? gotta be kidding me comeon now

excellent good job on those Freddy Props thanks for reply
Sorry OP, the way it appeared to me was that you were bragging about the Shadow being superior, etc.
When I had the Shadow, it sucked down batteries like crazy...I could not get a full days use out of it, thats why I went to the Dash...
Secondly, I really wanted a phone I could watch movies on. Although the Shadow can play movies, I found the experience much better on the Dash with the nice landscape screen. To me it was like night and day.
Third, I really wanted a full keyboard. Although I got used to the Shadows predictive typing, I much prefer the full keyboard of the Dash.
The Shadow is a nice phone, but falls short for what I wanted it to do.
I do miss the memory, and the quality of the screen was nice, but the Dash wins fills my needs better.
Where did you get the latest ROM for the Shadow?

Is the shadow an HTC phone?
yes it is a htc phone but guess what i just switched back to the dash im my opion better phone and built quality shadow has bettery memory and ram but dash is what im staying with
i had used the dash for almost a year when the shadow came out. I used the shadow for about 5 months and while the OS was quicker thanks to the extra 64mb of ram it has I absolutely hated the suretype keyboard and I went back to the dash a couple weeks ago and with the kavana 6.1 rom it is better than ever. I think I will stick with the dash until tmo releases a 3g wm professional phone.

Confused about all the different roms

Ok, so help me out and all the other people who are in the same situation as i am.
There are so many different roms that i dont know which one is the one to use.
All i (we?) want is one that is fast, very fast
With some extra memory available.
And is stable.
At the moment i see some official roms
the Elite 2.0
Surface
TLR Diamond ROM 2
(and more?)
What is the one to go with?????
Share your opinion if you tryd 2 or more of them.
And what should we be looking for when picking one.
Thank you in advanced!
The Bepe beta rom is the fastest rom I have ever seen on Diamond.
You should give it a try
i am using the latest official dutch one from htc. it is really fast, you can even increase the speed a little more with the tweaks. and offcourse it is in dutch
Each of the ROMs is built upon a philosophy, and the best way to figure out which one is best for you is trying them. Personally, I've chosen for the TLR2 Rom, because I like that it keeps things as if they were stock, and the autoupdater in it is a gold idea.

Here number two.
Absolutedly advicable.
Phone is well, what I expect from it now. 100% usable
TLR was ok, but version two was not a succes. Bit sluggish now and then, hangs a bit, got screwed up
(I installed .Net on dutch rom afterwards, version 3.5. Its even better then!)

ROM suggestions for Diamomd/HTC Home, BUT with BATTERY LIFE?

Hey all. I'm a new Hermes junkie - I just got my 8525 off eBay, already flashed with MRH Sun Shower 8.4.
I REALLY love the ROM, but the problem is that it eats batteries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Do you guys have any suggestions on a good diamond rom with good HTC apps, specifically HTC Home. I'd also need to have Office on there as well.
So in your opinion, what's the fastest, least power sucking ROM? I hit the benchmarks page, but I'm still cutting my teeth on all this new info. Thanks!
CRCs r13.0 its nice with device udate. best ever seen
The main power drains are the screen, and GSM, so make sure you have the right radio, that helps.
Loaded roms, like MRH, will use more power, I have found.
Bigstorage roms are faster, but you need to flash a shipped rom (use the stripped on in my 4shared), and tend to use a bit more battery.
Thanks for the info. I have emailed the guy that sold me the phone, and he did actually flash the phone with the stripped ROM (and i've downloaded and archived it myself) before loading MRH.
I did install MemMaid on the hermes and set the tweak for extreme speed, which seems to be working nicely - we'll see how that hits the batteries.
As far as updating the radio, what's a good suggestion on that? I admit, I'm still trying to dive in and catch up on the terminology/methods, etc on this thing.
This is a fantastic phone

Diamond = Big disapointment

Hi to all
I just bought my new diamond, and i must say that i regret that i bought it.
I had a HTC P3600 and by changing to diamond i thought that i would get a really good pda.
I was wrong.
Too slow, bad gps reception...
Correct me if im wrong but P3600 (Trinity) gives 10 to 0 to diamond.
Never had any problems with gps, now i cant get gps reception.
Rom speed in P3600, even in WM3.5 is way better, diamond is tooooo slowwwww.
Please if i'm wrong tell me so, because i regreat the day i trade my Trinity for a diamond.
Sorry about my english

Hi Zenga,
I'm still using both trinity and diamond. Diamond is definitely faster in most aspect compared to Trinity, especially GPS lock.
You can help list out your radio and rom version, so that we can help improve your diamond experience.
Diamond is a drag with the initial official rom and radio, but flashing to later radio and a good cooked rom can make it fly...

The Radio is responsible in enhancing the reception of a phone. Not so much the Rom. Please make sure before flashing that you have installed HARD SPL. Then you can begin to experiment with RADIO'S and what not's.
I have to admit, that I would not keep my diamond right out of the box. XDA has made all these devices superior. So with a little patience and less crying, you too will reap the benefits of this community.....
try other ROM and other Radio ,u'll see that u was not wrong !
just only 1 bad thing on diamond that is low battery i think so
To be honest I agree witth the poster. i had an Elfin before and it was much faster. Diamond has limited storage and too little ram. With Elfin I used to try out new roms for fun now its necessity.I have tried 30+ Diamond roms and most give out of memory errors or have lots of bugs. Don Salaris romd seem to get the most out of it but its still sluggish on 6.5 where Elfin handled it fine.
Maybe buying a DIAMOND is now a mistake with all the new phones that came out since it was released.
i have to admit i was a little disappointed bout the speed too when i bought the diamond awhile ago, but on the other hand the VGA screen is really way better then the QVGA i had on my Jade.
After a few months of flashing, tweaking, flashing, tweaking..... i'm more then satisfaid with the performance, keeping in mind that this device is a little out dated already.
I'm sure that when you update the device's Radio and find the ROM that suits your needs you'll start to like it more.
Btw...the WM6.1 ROMS are a little faster in use and the 'older' TF3D interfaces don't consume as much RAM as Sense 2.5 does.
Another point for me is that i've not been able to find a better looking device yet. All the newer devices are so big and square; they all look the same and only differ in size.
And yes, lol.....i'm a woman.
The Diamond is getting a bit old! There's a lot of newer (more interesting) phones on the market. (Ever tried a Android Phone?... WOW they're nice!).
Anyway, I bought my phone a while ago - and I don't wanna spend extra money buying a new phone - since the Diamond IS working ok... If however my diamond should brick or something, I wouldn't buy a Diamond again - I would go for one of the nice HTC Android phones... HTC Hero I think would be my bet now.
There's a lot of interesting ROMs here, that give new life to the Diamond - but if you want a fast device... I would recommend using a lite rom - WITHOUT touchflo or anything fancy like that... just plain WM61 og WM65.
to be honest, i wasn't to keen on the diamond with the stock stuff, but in 30 mins, you can have a nice speedy device WITH GOOD GPS
Fast rom = L3V5Y's 28014 Light rom
although, if was buying now, i would probably choose HD2 (Leo) or Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium)
none the less
i like my Diamond
A diamond is forever
Progress.
I'm surprised the Diamond is still being sold. I've had mine for about a year now.
The gps is laggy but hardly slow at connecting. With the right rom and radio you can get a fast boot and relyable reception. I have to say that bying a Diamond so late after it's release was a bit stupid. If you did buy the phone today then you should be able to send it back for a refund or exchange. In the UK most companies give a 14 day cool-off period so if you aren't satisfied with the phone then send it back and get something more recent.
You can't compare it to phones out on the market today as technology has progressed. It's like getting a secondhand PC off your mate and wondering why it's not as fast as the one you saw at PC world the other day.
If you want fast Windows mobile phone you should do your homework first. I agree the Trinity was a good phone. It had a lot of buttons and good battery life. But it was a bit of a chubby brick in comparison.
oh and Don't let any sales rep dis-wade you. You get what you pay for.
I love my Diamond... Works a treat. Try flashing a new rom.
Thanks
Thanks for all the answers.
I didn't buy a new diamond, but an used one. In Portugal, there's still possible to buy a new one, but for the price we can almost buy a Touch HD.
The pda is beautifull, i was used to really fat and big ones (Qtek S200 and HTC P3600) and this one is really thin.
My expectations were high conserning speed, i thout that if the Trinity is fast on WM6.1 the Diamond must be faster even in the heaviest rom's.
I've tried some rom's, original WM6.1, WM6.5, someones with sense, but none of them satisfied me.
Can someone tell me a fast one? I prefer rom's with manila.
The rom i now use is L3V5Y's 28014 Light rom and my radio is 1.15.25.14
Thanks
try don salari clean basic light rom. Or use the kitchen provided by yozgatg and customize the gen y rom according to your preferences. I've done that with his R4.4A and I always have free rom around 60% (after using it for some hours).
if you like manila you could also try Donsalari's WM6.5/Sense2.5 or 2.1 rom (2.1. is quit simular to original TF3D 2.1, but with some upgrades like the weather home page)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593678
I second that!

I second the recommend on Don Salari's ROM. After using the diamond on Dutty's 6.1 ROM for almost a year, I wanted to switch a 6.5 ROM. I've tried quite a few but ended up using Don's basic light ROM. I've been using it for about a month and half now without problems, which is the longest I've kept a rom since Dutty's. I have to admit the roms with 6.5 do make the diamond a little laggy. Sticking with a light rom is the best option if you're a heavy user and use memory intensive programmes.
