What extUSB to 3.55mm adapter that doesn't suck can I buy for my HTC Tilt? - General Accessories

I've seen a few Korean cheap adapters on ebay but they probably won't work or will suck big time. I read that the Tilt needs an 11-pin connector but which one? Has anybody bought one of those, and if so, can I have some links or the names of the stores?
Thanks.
Edit: I meant USB to 3.5mm!

I got two from Radio Shack that worked perfect. Albeit, they were long and I feared for stress caused on the port. That fear subsided when the phoen got nagled and the adaptor itself bent inside the 8125 jack, no damage to the jack, nice HTC.

I meant USB to 3.5mm. But thanks anyway, I'll stop by Radio Shack later.

Can you edit your title? I did not mean USB convertor was at RS, only mini stereo to stereo for 8125, 8525, etc. Does the Dongle use the 3.5 or 2.5 sized? I see two holes matching both sizes but is one for video?

2.5 mm audio jack.

Out of curiosity, why did HTC choose to use 2.5 mm audio jack, instad of the regular 3.5 mm ?
It is so hard to find a good quality earphone that uses 2.5 mm jack.
I recently purchased a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, but it is a bit bulky and cumbersome.
Is there a way to 'pry out' the 2.5 jack and replace it with a regular 3.5 jack ?
Thanks.
Since you said "Pry out", I am sure that is possible.
I am also sure that it is possible to replace it with a std receptor as well, even if a small portion had to be extended out of the device.
If you were technically capable of doing this (no offense intended) I supposed you would have already done this, However I know of no one doing this.
Me personally, I just wished they would all stick to the same Freakin pinouts.... (HTC I, II, III), I mean common guys, do they have stock in headset devices or what????

I agree. Just like I don't understand why MS removed TCP/IP on the new ActiveSync V.4. Sometimes I wonder what goes throught these engineers' brains. I think they just get up one day and decide to **** customers over.
Back to the topic. What I did was buy a $40 headphones with 3.5mm connectors. I cut the connectors on both my original O2 earbuds and my shiny new 40 bucks earphones, then connected the 2.5mm connector from my earbud to the new earphones. Then used a shrink tube to hide the splices. Works like a charm.

Ah, i wish i thought of that before purchasing a $12 converter (2.5" to 3.5") from an O2 authorized dealer.
Yes, $12.
And now I feel really dumb for doing that. Not only about the price, but the connector is simply too big/cumbersome.

Adapter

USB adapter. I just love the Elf phone. The only things I am disappointed in is that I cannot plug in a set of external speakers. I cannot plug in to the charger whilst watching a film as I need the socket for the headphones...
Does anyone know of an adapter to enable me to do this please? I could get one made up from the diagram, however I would prefer to buy a custom made one.
Roz
maybe something like this?

The Elf has only a USB socket, nothing else... No phono or whatever they call it... For me this is the only fault with a superb little phone.
Thanks anyway.
dont know about the elf but all other newer htc devices have a special usb connector which also carry audio
if your device came with a headset then yours do too
as they device dont support usb host so it cant use any usb devices
nm just saw my link was wrong :S

3Way USB adapter for HTC Touch/Elf
There is in fact a 3 way adapter available. I found it after a bit of a search. For some reason some of you seemed to think I was looking for a headset. The USB socket on the HTC Touch does not allow you to use anything else other than the supplied USB headset. however I want to use a set of Sony speakers for the sound to play MP3's and as I like to watch films in bed through ORB I like to be able to charge the phone at the same time. The process uses a lot of battery power.
The adapter I found has a stereo jack socket and 2 USB sockets the same as the one on the phone. So now I can plug in my head set and charger or charger and speakers in any form I choose.
If anyone else is interested here is a link where you can buy one for about £12.00 which includes postage: http://www.elitextreme.com/htcto31ad.html
The pictures show what I was talking about...

HTC 3 way adapter
No Expansis do not carry one. The link I left earlier does. I have mine now. It is exactly what I wanted. Cost me £12.95. Well worth it.
OK, so this is *almost* what I'm looking for:

Does anyone know where to get an 11pin to 3.5mm adapter? One that *only* has a 3.5mm stereo output instead of having stereo+usb output?
Thanks.

Thanks for the find, but will it work even if it's for the TyTN and not specifically for the Touch?
And is it stereo as opposed to just mono?
i would asume that htc dont change the wireing of their miniusb connector flavour with each device it would serve no purpos and would cost alot for htc
i would asume that if stereo is in the miniusb connector when used for normal wired headset it would be using that converter
as it would serve no purpos for the converter to add the eletronics it would require to just take 1 channel and spit it in 2 without lowering the the volume to ½ because of the impedanc

Alltel PPC6800 Mogul TITA100 2.5mm Headset Adapter FOUND

Hey all,
Just thought I would post this as I have seen several other threads of people asking how to hook up a normal 2.5mm phone headset to the PPC6800 phone as it has no headset jack. It took some work, and some disappointment, but I did find a solution.
There is an HTC part number SCB6800, which oddly enough HTC has no idea about and does not sell, but UT Starcomm does. It costs about $18.50 from UT Starcomm which is the cheapest source by far. This is a Y-Adapter cable that hooks into your USB port and gives you a 2.5mm headset jack and a power connector. It even has the HTC logo on the cable so it is legit, and it works great.
I tried ordering one of these from an online vendor first and wound up getting an adapter that looks exactly the same except that it had a 3.5mm Headphone jack and a power connector, they also tried sending me a USB to 3.5mm Headset adapter too, telling me both of those were the same item.
But for those of you wanting to just use a good old phone headset that is what you want. If people wish I can post some pictures of the various adapters I ran across for comparison.

Maybe there's some confusion, but where did you find the 3.5mm headset adapter? My 6800 (Mogul) came *with* the 2.5mm headset adapter, but I can't seem to find an equivalent 3.5mm adapter (except for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, which would just be a pain).

Make usb to 3.5mm jack adapter

I was wondering if i could grab a normal mini-usb to usb cable, cut the normal usb ending and sold the audio wires to a 3.5mm jack, so to use it with any audio device.
I just need to know wich of the wires inside the usb are the ones wich carry audio?
if i'm able to make it will make a tutorial although my english it's not that good
just so i don't have to break the original wire.
thanks
Not really - it can't be done
Here's the pin-out diagram
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2006/09/10/htc_hermes_usb_connector_pin_config
but you would noticed that the "miniUSB" socket on the Touch is actually a 2 in 1 device, a standard mini USB only have the bottom connection which deals with normal data traffic and charging, the top connectors carries the audio which the standard mini USB don't connect to (physically it can't).
But you can buy specially made adaptor to provide USB to audio sold on this site or elsewhere, such device make use of the more special connector to connect with the audio side.
I have 2 of such adaptor, they cost around USD15 a piece. Yes a bit more expensive than normal USB but they look neat
yeah, i wrote the post beforing having my elf, wich luckily was en ELFIN i'm really happy with it, i received it 3 hours ago

Have a look here:

And this is STEREO quality....
i'm from argentina so, i can't buy on ebay. The only adaptor here cost aprox U$S 35
that's expensive but it's my only choice
Just purchased my adapter from ebay and got it the other day... Works great. I have it connected to an FM transmitter so that all the audio (mp3's and gps audio) out to my car strereo.
Right after I purchased the unit I looked around and saw one with a built in microphone so I could have made it into a handsfree unit and have the audio go over the car stereo... DOH! I may do the upgrade in the next month. The adapter I got with shipping only cost 8 dollars.

cbaty,
i'm from brazil and i found this site about adapter http://www.expansys.com.br/p.aspx?i=149937...
i don't know if works very well and if is possible to sell to argentina...
but, you can try....
I purchased a mini usb to rca cable advertised for use with the Moto Razr phones. I know that the car charger for those phones works for my HTC. Heck, I could even charge my phone from my PS3 mini usb cables meant for charging controllers.
I received the cable today and I can't get it to work with anything.
Initially I tried it with my car's aux input. No workey.
Tried it on my home stereo. No workey.
I guess my assumption of this cable working for me was wrong. The only way I can get audio out of my HTC is with the supplied headset. Does anyone know how to convert that to RCA instead of 3.5mm?
Thanks.
The regular mini usb cables don't carry audio from the HTC Touch. That's why the earphone's they give you have a different connector, it looks like a mini USB but it's not.
It's easy to take apat the HTC earbuds and splice them to a 3.5mm jack so you can use standard earbuds. I did it and it took less than 5 min. There is another thread about it here somewhere with a step by step and everything.
i hav modified the original hands free, removed the earpieces and soldered a 3.5 mm socket into the call receive / volume adjust part. working fine so far ...
I did the same, but I broke the mic while soldering
Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the elf handsfree so I can know what I am trying to fix?
abt d port
hey.....u get d branded mini usb to 3.5mm jack in htc accessories.........jus chk it out buddy....

There are two types, one is a usb connector and a short cable to a earphone socket, and one is all in one...
I can get them in the UK on ebay for around $5 - add the same again for postage, and I'll get one and mail it to you - Paypal me when you get it... if you want me to, let me know and I'll work out the exact costs.
Here's some links, like I said, find one you want, I can buy it here and ship it for you.

If I am not mistaken, you can do one better - not only you get USB to 3.5, it will include the handsfree clip-on controls (mic, answer button, volume etc), allowing you to use the earphones of your choice. Which was the absolute must for me, because my ears are too small for the regular plugs. Not only that, most earphones included in the box are average quality at best, none will beat Sennheiser anyway.
I got one like that for my LG Prada, because the buggers use proprietary connector, which sucks. Paid $4.50 USD with FREE delivery to New Zealand. Can't beat that, I think. Let me see if the same seller has one for Elf.

Yes, there are a few options - I personally don't like the handsfree adaptop becasue you end up with too many wires in your packet... I use mine with some sennheiser phones with short cable, to make it neater.
I do have a set of Motorola S9 bluetooth headphones which work great, but you do get the very occasional cut out, and you have to remember to keep them charged up....
I think the all-in-one-block adaptor is the neatest for keeping everything tidy and untangled.
i got the A-200 HTC audio adapter it's gr8 ... usb (IN) and 3.5 , 2.5 , usb mini for headset and usb for charger (OUT)
it's really gr8 .. but i have a small problem ... sometimes the voice dailing work by itself !!
i mean the voice speed dail prog works and ask me to say the name to call ,,, and as the music in on or if iam talking ..the device go wiz the nearest voice tag and call !!!
and when i called the service center the told me tht may be the prob, with the adapter!!
anyone have the same prob ?

T-Mobile Dash 3 in one Headphone Adapter Problem

Okay, so I using a dash on Kavana 6.1 ver: 4.1.13.41
anyways, I bought a 3 in one adapter off eBay the other day with an htc label (supposedly designed for the dash) I also own a regular mini usb to 3.5mm adapter which also doesn't seem to work....the phone will play the music regularly and not pick up that their is a headphone piece connected being either a 3.5mm or 2.5mm though it does pick up if a charger is connected through the 3in one...Could this be the Kavanna could it be the mini usb port? I've tried different headphones...I actually used to listen to music when I first bought the phone when back when but stopped for quite a while....well hope someone can help me thank you!!
i have the kavana 6.1 rom with a 3 in 1 and also a stand alone 3.5mm converter and both work.
its either one of 2 things. 1. you have a hosed mini usb jack on your excalibur ( this does happen from time to time) 2. you have bad adapters not made for the excalibur. I have never bought stuff like this off of ebay, but thats my preference. I bought both of my adapters from here: http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000048&products_id=5314
and here:
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000048&products_id=5414
i know its more pricey than ebay or other sites, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
This is just what i think, i have seen a ton of adaptors that do 3.5mm conversion and they fit in but they do not work, they are for motorola's and other same type adaptor plug in's, so this 3 in 1 adaptor is most likely not an HTC one, ebay is the worse place to buy an adaptor as u can see its probably not an HTC capible adaptor.
Buy Adaptors only from HTC if u wanna be 100% cause anything else is not 100%
Or in person so you can test.
i have bought from ebay for cheap $1.9 (usb to 3.5mm) and they work fine.
well you got lucky not like our fellow poster, there are a ton out there that are fake ones that wont work, just wanna stay away from those anyway you can.
Amazon is where i get my stuff from. I never had any problems with anything.
Hey I got a question for yew folks:
Does the motorola usb headphones work on the dash? Im an audiophile and cheap sounding headphones (like htc's) drive me nuts. The motorola ones I had for the razr and slivr sounded pretty good but I would like to know for sure if they work before I go and spend my money on a pair.
Thanks for all the replies everyone, first off Pudge what was that you said about the mini usb being bad? (how does that work exactly?)
...PPC I think I'll definitely have to stop by the T-mobile store today see if they carry H.T.C. headphones try those out..
..Phatman I have read somewhere that yes you can use the Motorola on the Dash (but it might of been just the bluetooth ones...possibly..)
well actually its not really about the mini usb port being bad, but more of it being stuck in one mode or another. i have seen people here post that the mini usb always being stuck in the headphone mode or never going into headphone mode no matter what. either way, it doesn't prevent you from charging the phone, just that it prevents you from utilizing the port in all the ways that its capable of performing. Usually i've seen the only fix being replacement of the phone (unless you're really good at replacing internal components of the phone yourself).

What's the thread title "I bought a 3.5mm adapter rom Ebay & it works"
All pudge was stating is that you take a chance when buying something off ebay not all 3.5mm jacks are the same many manufacturers of phones make the connection slightly different. "You will see the black bits on the plug they can be moved about" <- Simplified
No need to post i got one and ok
