Flashing HTC Touch with SPL - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

When i download the USPL_2.28.0000_with_IPL_2.27 it comes with a folder named RUU.
The folder of the ROM (Onyx Ultimate 4.0) i choosen to flash comes too with a RUU folder.
Flashing SPL proccess:
************************************************** ***********
Please make sure Activesync is enabled (green icon in systray)
and hit ENTER to start...
STEP 1/3......50%......75%....100%
The next step will load a patched bootloader (SPL) on your device
it will make your device temporary SuperCID (seclevel=0), and will
avoid modelID and signature checking when flashing NBH files.
Hit ENTER to continue...
STEP 2/3.....15%.....25%...50%...75%.....100%
Phone screen should now be blank and the activesync icon gray
if not, the loading procedure has failed and you'll have to repeat again.
If all was OK hit ENTER and the standard "PDA Phone ROM Update Utility"
window will start, allowing you to flash patched SPL on your device.
Hit CTRL+C to Cancel or ENTER to continue...
Follow the steps on the wizard to flash the patched SPL, when this
step completes your device will reboot.
STEP 3/3 - Launching RUU, please wait...
Process is finished, congratulations!
If you find it useful don't forget to donate

Hit ENTER to quit.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
My question about this proccess is in step 3, when is saying "Launching RUU".
What RUU is this? Do i need to complete this RUU and then execute the RUU for Onyx? Is there 2 RUU happening to a successful flashing?
I saw in a site this tutorial:
1) Extract the USPL files to a folder, keep this window open.
2) Connect the Orbit to your PC (or laptop).
3) Once you have the Green ActiveSync icon, run start_uspl.exe, in your open folder from 1).
4) The start_uspl program opens in it's own DOS window. When the progress indicator reaches 100, 2 things will happen.
- ActiveSync will disconnect (you should also hear the 'USB Disconnect/reconnect' sound on your desktop), and
- The orbit screen will go blank (mine goes black, some go white)
Don't let this put you off, and continue undeterred, you're nearly there. Also, don't be tempted to disconnect anything, or reset your device.
5) Return to your extracted files window from 1), run ROMUpdateUtility.exe.
6) Follow the instructions in the three screens to start the update, which should take about a minute (not 10 as the screen suggests).
7) Once you get the "Congratulations" screen, the USPL phase is complete
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
What i can see from here is that i will complete the RUU from the SPL and then execute again another RUU thats comes in the Onyx folder. Right?
Sorry for the lammes questions
(I've already posted this in another area of the forum, didn't know what's the best one to post)

Need Help "unbricking" my friends phone

Friend got a vogue but he "bricked it" he doesnt even remember what he did,
he is very new at this and looks like he did a rom update without doing a radio update first.
i have an HTC titan but i am going to buy this vogue off of him if i can fix it.
so here is the issue...
when u start the goes it goes to the 3 color tri-color boot screen...
it goes right there without even me holding down the power and camera buttons.
i used mtty to get it out of that screen... i do set 16 0 and some other thing i can't remember for the life of me now in mtty
i reboot the phone and now it get the a custom Dette clean rom 6.1 splash screen but it says no Radio and it now just stuck there.
i tried to load the stock rom on a 2 gig fat32 formated flash card and inserted it into the phone. then boot it to the 3 color screen, and it just says no file! in gray backbground then goes back to the tri color screen...
i made sure the name was correct.. i tried "Voguimg.nbh" i tried "voguimg." and just "voguimg" then i tried it in all caps and then all first letter cap then rest lower case...
it is spl-2.01.1000
i think my friend flashed the rom without upgrading the spl as well.
i tried to flast it with sp 2.31 but i couldnt get it to load it. i guess i can't flasth to 2.31 in the tri color screen...
any ideas? any help would be greatly apreciated. spent about a week on this... probably about 2 to 3 hours reading and reseaching daily.
Duplicate msg
I even tried to stock vogue roms (this is a verizon phone)
but i tried even the following sprint stock roms:
RUU_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_1.12.651.1_2.13.00_SPC_NV133_Ship.exe
this gets me to 1% then errors out
and says error 328 invalid command, this update utility can not be used with my phone. please check my update utility... wat
RUU_PPST_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_3.03.651.2_Radio_3.42.30_AM_NV_2.04_Ship.exe
this one stays at 0%
tried the verizon stock rom...
which stays at 0%
i dont know if the spl has something to do with it but i read the first file i mentioned the stock rom 1.12... reloads the spl, boot loader, everything to original.
I noticed when I first flashed my phone, also xv6900, that when I was unlocking, I didn't fully complete it, and it showed SPL version 2.10, or something along that line.
There is no stock VZW ROM available, so that's a waste of time. I think the first problem is, you have no idea how it got that way. I'd assume your friend didn't complete the unlocking process, then ran the RUU for the new ROM.
I'm not 100% sure, hopefully someone can either correct me on this, or confirm.
You should be ok since you can enter the bootloader. Perhaps you could try relocking it, you would use ImCokeMan's relocker, should be SPL version 0.43. Then you could try unlocking again.
I'd suggest checkin at PPCGeeks, asking in either the general Vogue flashing threads, or try asking ImCokeMan himself.
i will try .43, i am trying .41 but it keeps saying no device connected would you like to try copying again?
on this screen :

unbricking ur phone
Unbricking Vogue / and downgrading SPL
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edited *This will help those that are stuck at the HTC welcome screen and cannot get past it to load IMCokeMan's Unlocker.**
Edit by ImCoKeMaN: If you are stuck in bootloader (3 color screen) use titanexitbl or mtty (set 16 0 then task first and try these steps only if that doesn't work.
Apparently you can not use SDHC cards with this method, please use the 512mb card that came with your phone.
I have successfully unbricked my phone due to updating the Alltel rom to a non Alltel Vogue, before IMCokeman had released his unlocker an also have downgraded to the previous SPL version. I will shortly update this post with the How to instructions. I just need to retrace my steps.
I would first like to thank IMCokeMan for his help and unlocker.
I currently have a Sprint Vogue but I assume this will work for all versions
For those that had loaded the Alltel rom without the unlocker and have bricked there phone try this procedure to unbrick your phone.
1. First download IMCokeMaN's 2.31 Unlocker. http://rapidshare.com/files/11019074...r_MFG_2.31.exe
2. Extract IMCokeMan's unlocker
Previous SPL version was 2.31 current SPL version is 0.36
Edit by ImCoKeMaN:
Note: Steps 3, 4 and 5 should not be necessary, but step 6 is critical that it is a signed rom from your carrier
3. Navigate to the extracted folder and within the folder you will find the following file called VOGUIMAG2.nbh and rename it to VOGUIMG.nbh
4. Copy the file to a fat32 memory card, and insert it back into your phone, and place it into bootloader mode.
5. The phone should display Loading... let it sit there for a minute or so. It will not go past this screen, now reboot the phone.
6. Extract your official rom using WINRAR by right click and extract files (Must be a signed EXE from your carrier get it from HTC support website)
7. Navigate to the extracted folder and within the folder you will find the files
8. Copy the files to your memory card (less than 2gb and formated fat32) and insert it back into the phone and place it back into bootloader mode(POWER+CAMERA+RESET USING STYLUS), and install the your Carrier's Official ROM.
I have attached the VOGUIMG.nbh file for those that are having problems.

these instructions do not seem to work me.
he has a sprint phone... he assumes it works for all types but i have a verizon phone... and on a signed verizon nbh file ... it only says loading... and gets stuck there... on step 6... and a sprint rom says loading.. and then says checking right away and then says not allowed in red and goes back to the 3 color screen.
also the poster of this mentions he has spl 2.31... my spl says spl-2.01.1000 which is not .40 .41 or 2.31 (the most comment spl's i have seen referenced)
has anyone ran into these conditions? spl 2.01... stuck, and has verizon.
mine was originally stuck at the 3 -color boot screen... even after taking battery out and putting it back in and just powering on without holding camera-power keys... it goes into the boot screen only...
so i used mtty did set 16 0 and then "boot" and now when i restart the phone it goes right to the splash screen and gets stuck there saying dette's clean rom ... but "no radio" and just stays there.

Help on a MDA III

Hi, i'm trying to put a shady rom on my mda compact III, but i'm a new at this, I already downloaded the rom but now I dont now what to do, can anyone point me in the right direction or explain me step by step how it's done.
I hope someone can help me
I will assume you have an SDHC card and SD flashing is not an option
prepare for first flash:
- remove SD card and prefferably even SIM
- charge battery to at least 50%
- connect cable with ActiveSync (or WMDC), so that you can access files on your device
- make sure you use a reliable cable to prevent dropouts in midflash
get your ROM:
- download a ROM you want to try, if it's not official HTC, you NEED HardSPL before you continue
flashing HardSPL:
- find HardSPL ( get arteUSPL-nosize-cmon.zip somewhere around here, try google )
- HardSPL comes with no flashing program, you need to steal one from another ROM first!
- Unpack the ROM you chose in previous step and delete its .NBH file, place the RUU_Signed.nbh from HardSPL to the folder with blank flashing program
- make sure you are still synchronized and connected, you can alternatively switch to bootloader (hold rec until tricolor screen, press softreset)
- run the flashing process with CustomRUU.exe or similar (it has an icon)
flashing ROM:
- make sure the numbers on device start say SPL 1.11cmon otherwise try HardSPL bit again
- sync ActiveSync or use bootloader mode
- unpack the ROM you chose again OR just delete the HardSPL NBH file and place the original you deleted back
- run the EXE file and flash
- perform a hard-reset after the flash to prevent random problems (hold left+right softkey and press softreset)
-put your SIM and SD back
Have fun
I hope it's not too complex and I'm sure you can find better guides somewhere around here but this works. I think xD
Thanks...
You help me a lot.

To EddyOS for the Tutorial on getting the PB99IMG from the RUU
I didnt find any newbie friendly guides for unrooting the HTC Desire, on XDA. Even some external ones arent that easy to follow, unless you have a very good idea about what is going on.
The main purpose of this post is to benefit people who have got an SLCD bricked device on their hands with nothing displayed except a blank screen, and cannot remember the key sequences necessary to activate the unrooting process, or to run the OTA Update and get to Android recovery. You will note that I have added the time taken at each step in the process. This will benefit people with SLCD bricks waiting anxiously without seeing anything on screen.
For a complete guide on Unbricking an HTC Desire, please see my thread here.
There are two methods of unrooting an HTC Desire.
Methods:
Get the latest RUU for your region from Shipped Roms. This is an exe file. You can run this file directly from PC. Then connect your device when so prompted.
The second method is to flash the rom.zip directly from the Android bootloader interface, after renaming the Rom.zip (which is actually obtained from the RUU) to PB99IMG.zip [See EddyOS's excellent step-by-step guide for dummies, in the FAQ below]
Method1 does not need any explanation (If necessary, I will add illustrations of this process later along with error codes)
Method2 is illustrated below.
Note: The following post illustrates the actual steps necessary to unroot your HTC Desire by running the PB99IMG.zip. This is also the method to upgrade the software with the RUU, the last method to fix bootloops cause by a bad boot, and also the way to unbrick an SLCD bricked Desire. Note that another simple method exists to unroot the device, and that is by directly running the exe file of the RUU from Windows. Though simple, this is slightly riskier, since complications with Windows drivers, or a sudden power surge or PC reboot can semibrick/brick your device. The following method using PB99IMG.zip eliminates those problems.
Unrooting is just one of the steps necessary to unbrick an SLCD bricked HTC Desire. The process is a pain for these users because they cant see anything on the screen and left pressing keys in sequence, whose function they can only guess. Also they need to wait specific amounts of time before pressing the sequences.
I'm making visible the steps which the Android system proceeds through, when you run a PB99IMG.zip to unroot your Android device. I've also included the time taken before each step while running the WWE 2.29 RUU as PB99IMG.zip. The time isnt much different for other ROMs. To be sure, just give it about 30secs more than the time I've noted.
Initial steps:
Create a goldcard if you want to convert a branded Desire to unbranded, or vice versa, or to make a Desire of one region (CID) accept software written for a phone of another region.
After creating the goldcard, format it as FAT32. If more than one partition exist, delete the rest, and format one as Primary and FAT32.
Put the file PB99IMG.zip into the root of the goldcard. Note that the name must be PB99IMG.zip and not PB99IMG.zip.zip. Windows has a tendency to rename it as the latter.
If you dont already have the PB99IMG.zip, you can get it by running the RUU, and while the RUU is loaded (dont start the RUU upgrade. Just click on the exe, and when the welcome screen of RUU shows up,) search in your Temp folder for the file rom.zip. Hint: To quickly navigate to Temp, Type the following into the Run window: %TEMP% [If you still get this step confused, see EddyOS's excellent tutorial on this, in the FAQ below]
To run the PB99IMG.zip, just reboot with Vol- and power button pressed.
I'm describing the whole boot process below for Reference, though.
Hboot mode (Vol- & Power key. Key them pressed for a 5-6 secs
FOR INSTALLING ANY RUU AS PB99IMG.ZIP
Press Vol- , then w/o releasing it, press Power button + Vol –
After 3-4 secs, the following screen shows up momentarily:
· Fastboot
· Recovery
· Clear Storage
· Simlock
This shows the above few options for 2-3 seconds, and then directly checks for PB99IMG.ZIP. It displays:
SD Checking…
Loading…
PB99DIAG.ZIP
Pb99DIAG.nbh
PB99IMG.ZIP
When it finds PB99IMG.zip, it starts to load it (13 secs after you press the Vol- & power key)
It gives the next options after 2min 20seconds (for the WWE 2.29 RUU) from the initial key press of Vol- and Power key.

<Vol Down> No
If you pressed Yes, then:
Update is in progress..
Do not power off your device.

3. Radio_Cust -OK
4. Boot -OK
5. Recovery-Unzipping/Updating
6. System
7. Userdata
8. Splash1
9. Splash2
It cycles through each of these in turn. For me, it took exactly 2 min 17 secs for time when I chose to apply update, to when update was completed.
(Note: At times, it may update the bootloader and reboot. If you have an SLCD screen, when the device reboots, you may not see anything onscreen (black). At this point, it is notable that the device boots to Fastboot instead of Bootloader, so you will need to press Power button again to get it to resume the update process. Once it completes, you will be presented the options to reboot the device. So you just need to Press Vol + after some time)
It displays:
Update complete
So you want to reboot device?
<Vol Up> Yes
<Vol Down> No
Congratulations. Your phone is now officially unrooted.
On rebooting, HTC screen shows up for a few seconds.
Then a green Down arrow in a green circle shows up for another 5-6 seconds.
Then, HTC screen again.
Finally, HTC screen disappears and the HTC Quietly brilliant logo shows.
Your device now boots into the Android phone.
Total time taken: 6min 30 seconds.
If the Rom is incompatible with your SLCD device, at the reboot stage, you will hear the momentary vibration. Then after about 10-20secs, you will hear the HTC Quietly Brilliant tone. The phone will boot, and the keys light up after about a min, indicating that the Android system has booted up. Since the Rom is incompatible, there's still nothing on screen. To shutdown the booted up phone, press power key, then swipe your finger vertically up-down like you do to unlock your phone normally, which is exactly what you're doing. Then keep Power button pressed until the phone vibrates. This means it is presenting you with the Power menu. At this point press the trackball once, then once more. The phone will now shutdown. At this point you can flash your SLCD compatible update.zip (OTA) and unbrick it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Newbies
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Newbies
1. Why do I need to Unroot?
To take the device to service centre for warranty
To fix problems with Boot and Recovery unsolved by other methods
2. What are the methods of unrooting? Which is safer?
Basically both methods are the same. It is the process of flashing an original HTC software onto your ROM. One method involves running an .exe file from Windows, and the other is by running a file extracted from this exe file from the sdcard. The latter method is called the PB99IMG.zip method, because it involves renaming the rom file so extracted as PB99IMG.zip. This method is generally safer because the whole process can be completed from your phone itself. The method of running the exe is prone to corruption because of problems with Windows drivers, your Usb cable, Battery issues, and even a Windows System Failure or System Crash or Power Failure!
3. How do I get a PB99IMG.zip? [EddyOs's complete tutorial for Dummies]
(The illustrations and answer to this question has been provided by EddyOS)
If you still get lost, dont even bother to ask!!
1. Double-click on the RUU file and wait until you get to the first main screen
2. Move the window to the bottom of your screen because it can’t be minimised and will sit on top of all other windows
3. 3. Click on Start>Run and type ‘%temp%’. Then click ‘OK’
4. Look for the newest folder in the temp folder. Double-click on it
5.Copy the file called ‘rom’ to your Desktop
6. Rename the file called ‘rom’ to ‘PB99IMG’
7. Copy this file to the root of your SD card (root = not in any folders)
4. Do I need a Goldcard?
If you have a recent version of the RUU for your Device, available on Shipped Roms, you dont need a goldcard. This is the usual scenario for people who purchased their Desire in Europe, and so have an unbranded Desire. All Branded Desires need a correct branded version of the RUU, and any other RUU including WWE (Worldwide English, or European) RUU will not work for them. Also if an unbranded Desire user wishes to change RUU to a branded version, he will need a Goldcard. This is because all Desires have a particular software tag in the Rom, called the InfoCID. This dictates the Region code. For Eg. An Indian Desire is branded and has InfoCID of HTC__038. When you change a RUU to different region, what you actually do is reset the InfoCID setting. Changing the InfoCID setting requires a Goldcard.
5. What is a Goldcard?
It is a normal MicroUSB card specially prepared in such a way that its Sector 0 (which normally doesnt hold anything useful) is modified, so that it signals to the HTC RUU that the InfoCID may be changed.
6. How do I create a Goldcard?
Just download this tool (Credits and All Rights by [email protected]), and run it.
In case your card in phone cannot be detected by the PC, download and install Goldcard Helper from the market and use it to generate the Reverse CID
7. Can you tell me more about Goldcards?
Sure. I've already posted it for you. Read the FAQs in this thread.
8. I think I've bricked my Desire. I cant unroot it with your method. What can I do?
Follow my thread on Unbricking a Bricked Desire. Though it's written for SLCD device, it will work for AMOLED too. The chance of success depends on two essentials: 1-That you have a working goldcard, and 2-You have a compatible RUU (of version higher or equal to the current version)
Reserved for the future...
Hi,
Thanks for informative article. Can I install PB99IMG.zip using the standard clockworkmod @ recovery mode?
Edited: I tried using windows, it failed. I tried the 2nd method, but Desire does not reconize the PB99IMG.zip file and so nothing happens.

When you mean you tried it in Windows, do you mean you connected the cable and ran the exe file? If so, what error did it give you?
You cant flash it via Clockwork. And you dont have to.
Assuming you have only one partition on your sdcard and it is formatted correctly as FAT32 and the PB99IMG.zip is placed in the root folder, and you press Vol- & Power button to start your Desire, it will detect the file and start the update process. Problems usually happen when the card is not formatted correctly, and the file is named PB99IMG.zip.zip and not just PB99IMG.zip. This is because Windows may not display the full filename including the zip extension.
one simple question
i wanted to root my phone so i could flash to a custom ROM, but i have since updated to 2.13.707.2 OTA, but i cant seem to find the RUU in shipped ROMs site...
could i use the 2.13.707.1 RUU to unroot?
Hi droidzone,
Thanks for the quick response. The error I got from windows 7 pro was (translated from German):
error 170: USB connection failure. The update software was not able to connect to mobile. Make sure the cable is connected to both PC and mobile.
My SD card is partitioned into FAT32 and a small parition ext3 for apps. This configuration is defacto for DeFrost, OpenDesire, and Oxygen ROMs. I moved the rom.zip file and renamed it using rootExprorer application to be 100% sure. When I go to recovery mode and then to Clockwork I can see the exact file name and its correct PB99IMG.zip (I am not sure if the system is case sensitive) but PB99IMG.zip is the exact name. Of course I restarted win7 few times but nothing changed. I need this because my mic is bricked like described in this thread

What can I try next? thanks!

What can I try next? thanks!

It's worth a try.Normally an older version cant be used on top of a newer version. It will give a "main version is newer" error. A newer version will always work. If it still doesnt work for you, downgrading may be the only resort. Get Teppic's downgrade tool for that.
error 170: USB connection failure. The update software was not able to connect to mobile. Make sure the cable is connected to both PC and mobile.

Could be a Windows driver issue. The PB99IMG.zip method should work for you though. Remove the ext partition, and partition the whole card as one big FAT32 partn, format it once, and then put the file there again. It should work.
If it still wont work, use another sdcard, repeat these steps.

Thanks for clearing up for me...i know now what to prepare...
FYI, I used another SDcard with only FTA32 partition and it worked. Howerver it did not fix the mic problem. Thanks!

Good..If even a new RUU installation didnt work, I'm guessing Hardware issues. Maybe a good time to get it checked.
I have a debranded Desire on 2.2, accidentally updated with an OTA yetserday without goldcard and have now lost wifi.
trying to downgrade with goldcard but it failing
tried PB99IMG method but get the following
On HBOOT , loads PB99IMG but states main version older update failed.
In recovery fails to open E: signature verification failed.
Any help gratefully received

You have a debranded Desire, you said.
Well then, the PB99IMG of the latest RUU should work for you.
Just flash it as I've described from Hboot.
Put the goldcard in just for safety, and do it.
Should work.
Hi Droid
Thanks for quick reply.
Can I just confirm a few bits . . .
Goldcard leaves 3 folders on SD ( android_secure, footprints,lost.dir)
Then copy and rename the RRU to PB99IMG and copy to SD.
Reboot to HBOOT and then get previous messages :-(

To be safe, do the foll verbatim:
Delete any additional partitions on goldcard (if any). The goldcard should have one big FAT32 partition
Format it as FAT32 once again with original allocation size
Transfer the PB99IMG.zip that I have linked in my post to the root.
Check the filename and be sure that it is not PB99IMG.zip.zip
Reboot in Hboot by Pressing the Vol- & Power key
The file will be detected and presented with menus
Follow the instructions in the OP
I'm guessing I don't need a goldcard with my unbranded desire?? But screwed if it does. Also what is the unbranded ruu currently as there is literally hundreds? Thanks
Sent from my HTC Desire
BTW, what does it mean WWE rom?
WWE - World Wide English
To others, if you've flashed the OTA without your gold card do it again manually WITH your gold card and you're good to go. Flashing a full RUU is only need if you can't fix it manually

Try what Eddy said. If it still gives you trouble, do what I listed.
WWE ->European Unbranded version
The latest is what I linked.

25/5/11 DefiniteGuide: How to Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 w ClockWorkMod Recovery

After a lot of reading, I collect the following, just for my own aid. I hope it will be proved useful to others.
I' ve just gathered all this information. All thanks goes to all those nice guys that spend time & put effort to find out all these procedures.
I'm just a bug.
(A few posts after this one, in the same thread, you can find the following guides:
How to Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 WITHOUT ClockWorkMod Recovery
&
FLASHING A NEW NAND ANDROID ROM OVER A PREVIOUS ONE (without clockwork mod)
&
FLASHING A NEW NAND ANDROID ROM OVER A PREVIOUS ONE (with clockwork mod)
At the end of this post you can find the neccessary files to download.
So here it is:
How to Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 with ClockWorkMod Recovery
(updated 25 May 2011)
Prerequisites
HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL or HSPL4 (Better use HSPL3. HSPL4 still has issues or errors on some devices, so use it at your own risk).
Radio that support 576 RAM (ex. radio ROM 2.15)
DFT MAGLDR Bootloader
ClockworkMod Recovery
It's advisable to copy the NAND Android ROM zip file to the root of your SD card, before start, because some people face problems to do this after doing the first steps of the process. If you don't do it then you can do it later using a card reader or doing this:
In MAGLDR choose option: #4 USB Mass Stg
or
In CWM choose option: mounts and storage option
Make sure that you have all the prerequisites installed.
STEPS:
A1: Install HSPL3
or
A2: Install HSPL4 (HSPL4 still has issues or errors on some devices, so use it at your own risk).
B: Install radio ROM 2.15
C: Install MAGLDR on HTC HD2
D: Install ClockworkMod Recovery (2 methods, choose the one you like)
E: Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 with ClockWorkMod Recovery
A1: Install HSPL3
Prerequisites
* Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or
* ActiveSync installed on Windows XP
* You must have any SPL version from this list on your device:

o SPL 1.66.0000
o SPL 2.07.0000
o SPL 2.08.0000
o SPL 2.10.0000
(To check your SPL version, hold the Volume Down button and do a reset)
You should have this SPL version unless you are using the latest 3.14 ROM with SPL 3.03.0000. No worry, just downgrade your Windows Mobile ROM from v3.14 to v1.66 will do. Download HTC HD2 v1.66 ROM. Then downgrade your phone from SPL 3.03.0000 to SPL 1.42.000.
Step by Step Guide
1. Power off your phone.
2. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
3. It will load into bootloader.
4. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-1.42.
5. Take off the battery.
6. Power on your phone.
7. Connect USB cable from PC to phone after Windows Mobile loaded.
8. Select ‘ActiveSync’ and click ‘Done’.
9. Open HSPL3_PKG.zip with 7-Zip.
10. Copy HSPL3_PKG.exe to desktop.
11. Execute HSPL3_PKG.
12. Follow onscreen instructions to install.

o SPL 1.66.0000
o SPL 2.07.0000
o SPL 2.08.0000
o SPL 2.10.0000
o SPL 3.03.0000 (for those using latest official HTC HD2 ROM v3.14)
(To check your SPL version, hold the Volume Down button and do a reset)
HSPL4 includes SPL-2.08.0000, SPL-2.08.HSPL, SPL-3.03.0000 and SPL-3.03.HSPL. The 3.03 SPL supports LEO1024.
You still need to use SPL-2.08.HSPL to use NAND Android and Windows Phone 7 and MAGLDR.
Make sure that you select the correct HSPL for your ROM installation.
9. Open HSPL4.zip with 7-Zip.
10. Copy HSPL4.exe to desktop.
11. Execute HSP4.
12. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
13. Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
14. Bootloader will be loaded with USB status during starting of installation.
15. Select 2.08HSPL or 3.03HSPL. (This is to prevent people with 1024LEO's installing an incompatable version and bricking their device).
16. Click next
17. When its finished the phone should be rebooted and load into Windows Mobile.
18. Click ok to terminate program
19. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
20. To verify, power off your phone.
21. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
22. It will load into bootloader.
23. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL 2.08 or 3.03.
24. That’s all.
B: Install Custom Radio ROM
Prerequisites
* HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
In order to flash custom radio ROM, you need to have HSPL3 installed on your HTC HD2. By the way, I used Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 on my guide. You can use it or any other HTC HD2 Radio ROM version.
HTC HD2 has 576 MB physical RAM but was reduced by software to 512 MB only. And custom Windows Mobile ROM + radio 2.07 or above can unlock it to be 576 MB again. Certain custom Windows Mobile ROM need higher radio version than your phone. And NAND Android requires it too. So you need to install custom radio ROM (if you don’t have the correct radio version).
Step by Step Guide
1. Power off your phone.
2. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
3. It will load into bootloader.
4. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-2.08.HSPL.
5. Take off the battery.
6. Power on your phone.
7. I have R 2.06.51.07 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo.
8. Connect USB cable from PC to phone after Windows Mobile loaded.
9. Select ‘ActiveSync’ and click ‘Done’.
10. Open Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.rar with 7-Zip.
11. Copy CustomRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh to desktop.
12. Execute CustomRUU.
13. Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
14. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
15. Bootloader will be loaded with USB status during starting of installation. (~10 minutes)
16. Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
17. You should have R 2.15.50.14 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo.
18. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
19. That’s all.
C: Install MAGLDR
In order to install NAND Android on HTC HD2, you must install DFT MAGLDR Bootloader first. And the good news ~ both LEO512 and LEO1024 are supported. This means US T-Mobile HD2, Europe, Asia and the rest of the world’s HTC HD2 are supported.
Note – by installing MAGLDR, you cannot boot into Windows Mobile anymore. So everything on your phone is gone…
Prerequisites
* HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
* Radio that support 576 RAM
No worry, Android on NAND is working. That’s the reason we install DFT MAGLDR Bootloader on our HTC HD2, right? And we will be able to load the latest Windows Phone version (if we are crazy...) when the ROM comes out. Okay, let’s get started. If you don’t have HSPL3, please install it first. And aslo install radio ROM 2.15.
7. You should have R 2.15.50.14 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo.
8. Connect USB cable from PC to phone after Windows Mobile loaded.
9. Select ‘ActiveSync’ and click ‘Done’.
10. Open DFT_LEO_MAGLDR113.rar with 7-Zip.
11. Copy MAGLDR113 folder to desktop.
12. Enter MAGLDR113 folder.
13. Execute ROMUpdateUtility.
14. Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
15. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
16. Bootloader will be loaded with USB status during starting of installation.
17. Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
18. DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded then.
19. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
20. That’s all.

6. That’s all.
E: Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 with ClockWorkMod Recovery
Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 with ClockworkMod Recovery is the 2nd method to have NAND Android on HTC HD2. And this can be done by using SD card only without PC. Just download the zip ROM to your SD card and you are ready to go. In addition, you can backup and restore ROM using Nandroid. Or you can try the 1st method through DFT MAGLDR Bootloader which requires PC with USB connection.
Prerequisites
HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
Radio that support 576 RAM
DFT MAGLDR Bootloader
ClockworkMod Recovery
Having NAND Android on HTC HD2 is not a simple task like ABC. But it is not mission impossible too. Just follow these guides to get all the prerequisites installed. Please install HSPL3. Install Custom Radio ROM 2.15. Then, install DFT MAGLDR Bootloader. Finally, install ClockworkMod Recovery. Wow… Lot of steps but worth it. Trust me…
Step by Step Guide

Good Luck
Just below are the files where you can download directly, exept for the radio, that you can get it here: Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
(If you are going for the 2nd method of ClockWorkMode, then depending on what type of roms you plan on using, you should download the partition size based on the following:
150MB Partition - For bare roms including CyanogenMod, AOSP, and MiUI
[*]250MB Partition - For Standard sense roms including Desire and EVo based ROMs, can also be used for some squashed HD builds
[*]400MB Partition - For Larger roms including unsquashed Desire HD and Z roms, ROMs REQUIRE data2sd for EU HD2 with 512MB NAND)
Well played sir and thanks for putting in the time to write this guide. Perhaps a passing mod would care to sticky this, either here or in a HD2 forum?
BTW, have an E-cookie for what is probably the best 1st post i've ever seen here
Totally agree. Even though I personally don't need this guide, I've still thanked you because I appreciate the time and effort you've put in, and that's just a brilliant 1st post!
Welcome to xda mate
+1 ....awesome Ist post, very useful for many.
Great guide!
Dear friend Gn,
thank you for your guide it is very detailed and precise but despite that fact
my ignorance(or stupidity) did't let me make the work. My mem is still 448mb, i thought after making the first two steps i'll had 576 of mem but it didn't work. At the first place i had 1.44 rom then i have change it in 1.66 with radio 2.15 but all that after installing Hspl.oops!!.
So now i have no idea how to proceed and put the android nand on. Can you help me please?
Thank you in advance
I think by memory he meant ROM not RAM
Since the first guide was useful to some people, I'm posting another one: How to Install NAND Android on HTC HD2 without ClockWorkMod Recovery. The first three steps are the same. All this stuff is not mine. I've just gathered other peoples postings. So all thanks shloud go to them. I'm just a bug.

* HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
* Radio that support 576 RAM
No worry, Android on NAND is working. That’s the reason we install DFT MAGLDR Bootloader on our HTC HD2, right? And we will be able to load a Windows Phone version when a new ROM comes out. Okay, let’s get started. If you don’t have HSPL3, please install it and also install radio ROM 2.15.
20. That’s all.
D: Install NAND Android
Prerequisites
* HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
* Radio that support 576 RAM
* DFT MAGLDR Bootloader
Make sure that you have all the prerequisites installed.
Step by Step Guide
1. Power on your phone.
2. DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded.
3. Use volume down button to go down to 5. USB Flasher.
4. Then press call button to load Android Flasher mode.
5. Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
6. Open your favorite ROM (ex. DFT_LEO_NAND_Android.rar) with 7-Zip.
7. Copy DFT_Android folder to desktop.
8. Enter DFT_Android folder.
9. Execute DAF.
10. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
11. Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
12. Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
Maybe the next steps are not obligatory, depending on the ROM you are going to install. In my case, I didn't have to follow the rest of the process, because the ROM I've used, has done the job itself and my phone was ready to work. (I've used CleanDroid and I had PERFCET results. Very light, clean and stable ROM. I've installed 30-40 apps and still is stable, alive and kicking.)
13. DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded then.
14. Use volume down button to go down to 3. Boot AD NAND.
15. Then press call button to load NAND Android.
16. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
17. Follow onscreen instructions to setup Android settings.
18. That’s all.
Alsomaybe the next steps are not obligatory.
To make auto boot to NAND Android.
1. Restart your phone.
2. Load to DFT MAGLDR Bootloader
3. Use volume up button to go up to 10. Services.
4. Then press call button to load Services Menu.
5. Then press call button again to enter AutoBoot settings.
6. Then press call button again to enter Boot source settings.
7. Select 3. Android from NAND with call button.
8. Use volume up button to go up to 10. Services again.
9. Then press call button to load Services Menu.
10. Then press call button again to enter AutoBoot settings.
11. Select 2. AlwaysMenu with call button.
12. Press power on/off button to select NO at Show boot menu always at boot?
13. Use volume up button to go up to 11. Reset.
14. Phone will be rebooted and enter NAND Android automatically.
15. That’s all.
Good Luck
install fresh Android ROM over dual boot hd2
I've set up dual boot to android and WP7 on my HTC HD2. I now wish to go back to only ANdroid on my phone. What are the steps for that. As my SD Card is partitioned will the new android rom be installed on just the NAND portion?
I need to know to what type of filesystem should I format my SD card so that i can install a fresh ROM.DO i need to go back to stock WM6.5 to install this.
Hi aditya_r12
Here's my newbie answer.
I think you can forget the sd card temporarily (remove it if you want),
flash a windows sytem (or just leave the existing win7) and then follow one of the above methods (the easier is the non clockwork mod), and you will be back to a nand android-only phone. After you can mount back your card with one or two partitions, or you can reparticion it or whatever.
I hope an experienced member, will also answer to you, since I'm an absolute ignorant newbie, which was lucky enough to manage to flash a perfeclty functioning android hd2, from scratch (thanks to the instructions of these nice people in this forum).
Good luck
Ho. Thanks for the reply. I finally got to installing nand android using clockwork mod. I used tadk29 to clear everything. Now I'd really like to know how to increase my internal storage
Its only some 250 MB right now. Is it possible to make it think that the storage extends to the SD card

Thank You~
I really need this faq but I thought there were newer versions of CWM that did not requier the "move to SD" files? Am I just totlly lost or is the faq older than those files?
Thank you for this guide. It will be very helpful for people like me (who don't read much unless encounter an issue) if download links will be available here also. So, it'll be a one stop shop guide..
I'm about to input the download links and the links for some video guides, as soon as I have the permission from the forum op.
Flashing a new nand android rom over a previous one
FLASHING A NEW NAND ANDROID ROM OVER A PREVIOUS ONE
(without clockwork mod)
Once you have flashed Magldr to your device you do not have to go through the whole process again if you want to flash a new NAND Android Rom:
1. Turn your phone off
2. Restart your phone by holding down the 'Power' button and keep holding it down until the Magldr Menu appears
3. Press the 'Volume Down' button to goto Option 4: USB Flasher and press the 'Call' button (far left of the 5 hardware buttons at the bottom)
4. Browse to the folder you extracted your NAND Android Rom files to on your pc, right click on Run DAF.exe (or install.exe if Daf.exe isnt listed) and select Run as Administrator (if using Windows Vista or Windows 7)
5. Read ALL the text and then select 'Next'
6. Read the information and select 'Next'
7. The installer will now detect USB and then flash your Android Rom to NAND
8. When flashing is complete your phone will Reboot and proceed to boot Android from NAND
That's all
Good Luck
Im a Evo user and trying to install Android on a buddys HD2. I am stuck at the pink stick together screen after step B completed and is trrying to redoot.. I dont think it wants to boot. Any ideas?
Apparently there are quite a few other benefits of installing CWM such as installing mods to your ROM. Unfortunately, I chose to install my present (and very stable) ROM without using CWM. Is there anyway to install CWM without losing my existing ROM?

The article for the NEW BIE'S of DELL STREAK

HOPING IT MIGHT HELP....!!!!!
IF IT DOES DUN FORGET TO THANK....
Here is an article which will be discussing all about the rooting the device, getting streak mod recovery menu, flashing customised ROMs and lastly How to get wicked customised BOOTANIMATION uploaded on the customised ROMs.
BUT BEFORE I PROCEED ANY FURTHUR I MIGHT WARN YOU THAT ALL THE STUFF MENTIONED BELOW WORKED FOR ME AND HENCE FORTH IM PASTING IT BUT WHEN UR FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS BE SPECIFIIC TO THE POINT AND FOLLOW IT AND YOU AR DOING IT ON YOUR OWN RISK I AM NO ONE TO BE BLAMED IF YOU MESS IT UP.IF STILL YOU WANNA BLAME ME SURE YOUR ARE WELCOME.
Now this article will be one stop for everything when the word customisation comes to your mind
and its the result out of my research on all the informations provided on the inetrnet not only on the XDA DEVELOPERS but else whr too. Without wasting much time lest proceed.
1. ROOTING YOUR DELL STREAK :
Downloading the file : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Video For Reference : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hifk15SbHVQ
ROOTING THE DEVICE WILL VOID YOUR WARRENTY
About :
The GingerBreak APK is a wrapper around the newly released GingerBreak exploit (credits to The Android Exploid Crew), which is meant to attain root access on GingerBread. This specific exploit*may*work on various Froyo and Honeycomb versions as well.
What the APK and exploit do is as follows:
- The APK puts the right files in the right place to run the exploit
- The APK runs the exploit
- The exploit attempts to attain root access
- If it succeeds, the exploit remounts /system as read-write and runs the installer script
- The installer script attempts to install the su binary and superuser APK, and reboots
Some important things to know:
- You must have USB debugging enabled on your device
- You need to have an SD card (formatted and) inserted - if it doesn't work, try formatting the SD card in your computer, or switching it with a different (or old, etc) SD card
- The APK must be installed to device, NOT SD card
- The exploit may take a while to run, but not more than 10 minutes, if it does, get me a logcat, and reboot the device. In rare occasions, even if the device does not reboot, you may still have root. So check that out after you manually pull battery after 15 minutes or so of being stuck.
- Always reboot between root attempts!
- While (temporary?) root access may be attained, due to locked bootloaders, efuses, S-ON, and whatnot this may still not work on your device. For temproot purposes, use the raw binary exploit (linked below), not this APK.
- The GingerBreak exploit should not be used to attain temproot and continue using the device. It fscks vold, you do not want to be running like that. You want to reboot! So if the root doesn't stick, you (still) have a problem.
Installation :
- Make sure USB debugging is enabled
- Make sure you have an SD card (formatted and) inserted
- Get the APK on the phone somehow, and install it
- Open the APK, press the root button
- Wait a few minutes. If there are no problems, the device will reboot (note that the reboot itself can take like 10 minutes due to cache wipe)
- Make sure the Superuser app is install and working
- Optional: Install BusyBox from Market (I personally prefer the stericsson installer)
- Optional: Uninstall GingerBreak, you don't need it on your phone anymore
WARNING: Apparently on some devices the root exploit causes the SD card (internal or external) to be formatted. Also, if it gets stuck but you do see the card mounting/unmounting, try formatting your SD card yourself and try again (or use a different SD card) - often this works*.
However there are many other applications to root the phone but the gingerstreak was the one worked for me and i used .you can check on net and will get other applications too eg: SUPERONECLICK,etc.
2. Getting the streakMOD Recovery menu :
DOWNLOAD FILE : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
Note : in the streamMod recovery menu to navigate up and down use the volume rocker keys and to select use the camera button.
HOW TO INSTALL THE RECOVERY :
Step 1: Unzip and flash with: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Step 2: Reboot with: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Step 3: Hold down the keys "volume up" and "volume down" simultaneously while the device is rebooting.
Step 4: Select "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" in the menu
Step 5: At the Dell Logo press the power button and you will be presented with the Recovery Menu
Now all the newbie will be having only one question in mind what does the term FLASH here refers to...i was also struck by the same...Honestly, it took me one week to crack that term.
Here s the answer :
FLASHING is nuffin but running a handfull of commands which i will be providing you you can just copy and paste it but the way you write and run those commands it the real deal.

Steps OF Flashing (FOR WINDOWS USERS) :
CONSIDERING YOU HAVE ALREADY ROOTED YOUR DEVICE
STEPS TO BOOT INTO RECOVERY :

THE ABOVE LINK IS JUST TO ASSIST YOU HOW TO BOOT INTO FASTBOOT MODE HOWEVER IT SHOWS THE WAY OF FLASHING THE STREAKMOD RECOVERY WHICH DIDNT WORK FOR ME.
Step 1: MAKE SURE THE USB DEBUGGIN IS ENABLED.
Step 2: TURN OFF THE DEVICE REMOVE THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND REPLACE IT.
STEP 3: PRESS THE CAMERA AND THE POWER BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME AND KEEP IT PRESSED UNTIL A WHITE SCREEN WILL APPEAR.
STEP 4: IT WILL BE SHOWING “WAIT FOR SD DETECT” THEN AFTER THE MENU COMES UP ON THE SCREEN WAIT FOR LIKE 15 SECONDS APPROX
STEP 5: CONNECT YOUR DEVICE(DELL STREAK) TO THE PC AND THEN PRESS FASTBOOT OPTION ON TOP RIGHT CORNER OF THE SCREEN.
STEP 6: THEN WAIT FOR LIKE ANOTHER 15 SECONDS AND FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE PROVIDED BY ME OR IN THE VIDEO LINK I HAVE POSTED ABOVE...ITS COMPLETELY YOUR CALL.
NOTE : clockworkMOD WORKS ON ANOTHER ANDROID DEVICES BUT streakMOD Revovery works on DELL STREAK
Step 1: You need fastboot/ADB tools http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Tools/Fastboot+ADB.zip
Step 2: Unzip to a folder; say C:\Fastboot+ADB
Step 3: StreakMod recovery: Download the file recovery-v0.3.2.8-beta.zip (3.57 MB) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326. Unzip and copy ‘recovery.img’ *to fastboot tools directory*(i.e. C:\Fastboot+ADB\Win32\recovery.img)
Step 4: Now Open the command prompt and by using the 'ls' command and 'cd' command navigate to the folder and your command prompt line show b exactly like C:\Fastboot+ADB\Win32\>
Step 5: Now copy and paste the command fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img, and you will find the mobile screen changes and desplayes something with an exclamation mark at the end....it means the Recovery image that needed to be flashed is done.
Step 6: Now all you need is to enter the next command in the command prompt on your computer screen fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
while the device reboots itself hold the VOLUME UP AND VOLUME DOWN or simple the VOLUME ROCKER keys.
