Keyboard problems - HTC Excalibur

Hello
I installed my eT9_Full keyboard layout on my Mobile and it doesnt seem to be working anymore, it was working fine lastnight and i turned it on and some keys dont seem to be working correctly.
Instead of having to hold down the FN button to get the numbers, they automaticly work without holding it down when you press them which means i cant use W,E,R, S, D, F, X ,C, V for letters.
Also the T9 little icon isnt flashing back and forth where it used to where the battery icon is.
any help would be great
**Update**
It all seems to work in MSN correctly without any problems at all, but in Internet Explorer and text messages is still has the same problem, it seems like its only actived when it wants too??

Have you presses FN + SPACE and chose ABC in a text input box?

That doesnt seem to do anything while pressed in the text message box writing area.
Im using the Kavana’s 6.1 ROM
Well it does work if i use it in MSN then i can choose and select with one i want to use, However in Internet explorer and text messages that option doesnt happen

Install this and see if it works http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1ilzwtht3mz

Will still have to do the FN + SPACE as the phone starts in predictive.

Keyboard mapping incorrect with vp3G's latest ROM?

I installed VP3G's latest ROM last night, and everything worked smoothly. However, today I ran across an annoying issue. I am not sure if this issue is from VP3G's ROM or anything else causing it. So let me give you a lowdown...
Device: AT&T 8525
ROM Version: Vp3G 3.62.3
Repro Steps:
1) Go to Compose a new email message and type into the message body
2) From the slider keyboard, hit the blue-key to insert symbols in the message (the symbols are represented on the keyboard with blue characters on top of the alphabets. Example, alphabet 'F' has a blue-key '?'. So if you active the blue-key button and press 'F', the symbol '?' should be inserted.)
3) Active the blue key and hit 'F'. Instead of '?', I see '-' (hyphen) inserted into my message! This happens with a few other keys too ('~' inserts '!', etc).
Does this repro with anyone else too? Can someone suggest me a way to fix this?
Thanks!

Use the cingular keyboard map. Use HTCustom v1.7 located http://bgjobconsult.110mb.com/cab/HTCustom1.7.cab install and use it to set your keyboard to cingular.

and a friendly advice: next time try the search feature of the forum before you write such a lengthy note. It will save you a lot of time.
Good advice about the searching or try the wiki.
The ROM customizations already contain the mapping corrections, so either you cancelled something or it didn't install properly. There is also a version of HTCustom included in the System Tools folder which can be used to set the keyboard, although it shouldn't be necessary.
Thanks guys... that fixed the problem.
Sorry for the inconvinience. I will ensure that I search and/or check the wiki next time.

I uninstalled HTCustom after installing your ROM... I think that must have caused it.

Can't read text messages on Dash 6.1 - Only Header

I searched all the forums about this issue but all I can find is things dealing with setting up text messaging. I have no network problems with data, text, or voice I just used the HTC network wizard.
Whenever I get a text message I can see the the beginning of the text in the selection screen but when I click on it the message is blank? So I can't read the whole text. I searched this Forum but couldn't find any people with similar problems. It seems to send them fine I just can't read the whole message for some strange reason. I have been clearing my memory and then flashing my Tmob Dash for the last three Kavana releases, they all exhibit this behavior. Any help appreciated with my problem.

Kavana 080408. The texts that I get show up on the main screen with a little bit of the text but when I click on them they don't show anything. I tried pressing all the buttons I can but it doesn't seem to do anything.
See is UNthreading them helps.
Uhm, just a silly guess here, but next time you're on the blank screen, click menu (right softkey) > 5 (Folders) > change to inbox, at least if it's not on inbox already. My friend changed his to sent and couldn't figure out why he couldn't see new ones either hehe
I looked everywhere in the messaging app and also the regular phone settings I don't see anything for unthreading. Also MMS can be viewed and sent normally. Just whenever I try to send or read a recieved text I have problems. When I try to send a text it doesn't let me type anything in at all. Not recipient and not the body of the text.
No I have already gone to all the folders. The inbox folder is where I can see the messages. You can read the begining of them, and who it is from but when you select one it doesn't show anything.
I had the same issue before, the problem disappeared after I uninstalled CE-Star (Chinese-reading problem).. do you have it installed?

Check in Accessibility Folder for unthreading.
DON'T Turn off the Damn active x
I finally fixed this problem.
I had a problem with WM 6.1 will only showing the headers and not allowing you to read the contents of : Text messages, Emails, MMS. This errors would also not allow you to write emails or text messages.
I thought Kavana's ROM had some big error with it but no one else was complaining. I downloaded Ricky's rom but same problem. So this weeked I fooled around with my phone believing it was some program I was installing. Even though I only install Google Maps, TCPMP, YGo, and Windows Live. I would install something then restart. I tried installing them one by one then it seemed to work but still after a time was becoming broken. I thought it had something to do with synching corrupted contact data. So I didn't synch but after a while it still came back.
This morning I finally realized that if you turn off active x it breaks the email and text which I assume both use IE active x The bad setting is.....
Main Settings Menu->IE Settings->Advanced Options -> NEVER TURN OFF ACTIVE X CONTROLS.
I think if Kavana, my personal hero, rolls another ROM you should take out this option.

I am glad to hear that you fixed and resolved your problem, and haha I hope that Kavana makes another Rom, he is awesome. But then again I got to thank Ricky for this rom to I love it.
hello i am having the exact same problem i checked all advice given i.e. make sure it is on inbox folder, check ie active x is enabled, and no change.
any advice
also when u do see the message headers like yianaki but when you select the message and then press a soft key it says"message cannot be signed and/or encrypted"
You need an encryption key for your email and you don't have it on your dash email, maybe. Just a guess. Is there documentation as to what you need to set up your email. What steps did you need to take to get your email on your home computer.
i actually have kavana 6.1 version 080408 so i just used the connection setup for US tmobile. and it was working previous to this problem. i did a hard reset now and its back to normal for now
SWEEEET!
Thanks "Y" you saved my life, I had the same problem. Keep Active x controllers checkmarked "On".
change IE option.
I had the same problem only can view the header of a msg, but can
t see the content. Here is what I did to solve it: go to IE\tools\option\general\encoding\change to Unicode
Cant Open Text Message.
Hi, I'm from Jamaica, I bought my HTC S621 from Digicel Jamaica [here]. I followed the instructions and installed WM6.1 80408 Kavana and it was totally amazing, I did it on Saturday and it worked great, everything was working GREAT. On Sunday I realized I was unable to open my text messages for viewing. When I click Text Message, the colour wheel shows and it starts to open then it closes. I did all the suggested this in this thread but nothing works, any more suggestions please, I really need to send text messages to my work crew and this is a major hindrance. I dont know how to soft or hard reset and would like to try that first, any other suggestion would be great. Thanks.
PLEASE dont laugh or throw tomatoes, I fixed it. In my attempt to load a Yahoo messenger app I installed an SMS application that was causing the issue. Problem solved, sorry to be a bother.

Just wanted to voice my agreement with Yianaki about "Never turn off Active X controls". The whole issue lies in the fact that the text messaging app is basically an Active X control. But I wanted to add the reminder that you need to make sure that the "Text Messages" app gets closed then reopened after you make the change, or it will not appear to work. (Use the task manager/celetask to close it)
I had the exact same problems with text messages: I could send an MMS, receive an SMS, but not send an SMS. When a text message came in, it showed up in the list as expected, but an attempt to view it resulted in a blank area with no useful menu options. I also couldn't send text (SMS) messages out because the create-new-SMS screen was blank and non-functional. It has nothing to do with the threaded vs unthreaded Accessibility settings for the phone, nor do you need to worry about configuring your WAP settings (GPRS and MMSC Settings); the "Connection Setup" app takes care of everything for T-Mobile perfectly. It's all an Active X issue.
PS: This is all on Ricky's v24 "Vanilla" ROM of WinMo 6.1 running on a T-Mobile Dash.

Perfect update. Few questions and help. Thanks.

So, I managed to upgrade to Kavana 6.1 on my own (yeeeaaah). I got a couple of questions though.
I followed the update with pics thread. Apart from the fact that it should state (for newbies like me) that you need to unzip the chosen ROM and run THAT RUU but anyway... at the end on the thread, it shows how to configure various things like wi-fi, texts etc... My question is, is it possible that mine did that all on its own? Because I did not get those images asking me what setup to get and the keymap/keyboard works fine, the wifi works, so far everything works, it even picked up T-Mobile on its own. Anything I should know? Second of all, the quote below... does not make sense in the English language. Please be more specific because I can't seem to get active sync to work. Thank you.
To Get ACTIVE SYNC to work after this:
Do this with the USB cord DISCONNECTED from the computer.
Scroll down or up to the settings panel.
Select
Scroll right or left to USB to PC.
Select
UNCHECK the first option.
Connect the USB cord after you click on ok.
Click to collapse
Settings\USBtoPC untick advanced network functionality, do you get data if not then Connection Setup needs to be run.
Also if you want predictive off FN+SPACE in a text input box ABC.
That's it all done
well on your sliding panels homescrren the very last pabel is settings scroll over till you see the usb to pc panel cick on it and uncheck the first box.

Got it. It wasen't clear that it had to be done on the cell itself.
So, is it possible that all the settings have been setup all fine on their own?
What about Tegic multi languages, I tried it on WM6 and it did not have the et9 for Italian for example and the mapping was all wrong. Does it work only for WM6.1?
Thanks.
What is the up and down sign next to E? I guess its the jogger thing?
I love 6.1 so far.
Anyone?
So far the ROM is really good, but I got a couple of questions.
1) I think I solved the issue by deleting a draft text I had, but at times the phone would just vibrate without me getting a text or missed call, etc. Is this something that has occurred to others? Or you think it was just the draft text?
2) I was wondering if the et9Tegic with 14 languages works solely on WM6.1, reason I ask is because I installed it on WM6 and it did not have the et9 for say Italian. Maybe it was conflicting with Tegic-US?
3) I went on wifi, connected to my own connection that I have home, went on skyfire, and after a bit, the phone went sort of crazy on me. It would just click and move on its own. I had to turn off the phone in order to restore it to normal. Anyone know the answer to this? Should I worry? Is it frequent? I re-went online when I restarted it and it was fine, but I wonder if anyone had this issue.
4) To setup a background image, is 320X240 the whole screen, or does it cutoff the menu bar? If so, what is the actual visible size of the image?
5) I didn't have to go through the whole setup and was wondering if its normal that it setup sms, mms, wifi and everything else on its own.
Thanks.

We're you using the jogger to scroll when it went all crazy on you? That happened to me a while back , when I was using the jogger to scroll , it would not stop scrolling up or down. What worked for me was to set the jogger to use only for speaker volume and and for the wmp.
The backgrounds will use the whole screen at 320x240 size. I do all my images at 320x240 and they display perfect.
You shouldn't have to do anything on sms,and mms, other than connection setup, for your country and carrier, unless you get the mms problem that some people get.
For wifi, it should work right away, but to be able to connect, you have to set up your wireless network if you're at home or work, by searching with the phone's wifi and connecting and then providing the usual, (network type, authentification, data encription, network key) .

I wasen't using the jogger but I might have touched it involuntarily. Once I tried it again I know I did not touch it and it was fine. I guess I will also set it up like you suggested.
I didn't have to setup anything as far as SMS are concerned and I haven't tried to send or receive MMS yet, but once I completed the RUU the phone went on cold booting on its own and restart it fine all on its own. Wifi same thing, no need for me to do anything, I just connect fine anywhere.
Another thing it does, if I use the jogger or not, it pops up something telling me that dimlight should be kept at something like -t instead of -m? How do I get rid of that thing?
I got a bigger problem now. The phone at times just vibrates on its own without getting any sms or mms or missed call... What is it?
Thank you.
The -t and -m thing refers to the LowLight program. By default it's activated by tapping/touching the jogger 3 time within 10 seconds.
I was playing with it, after a new upgrade, last night.
Apparently you *are* touching the jogger...probably without realizing it.

Lord knows THAT is easy enough to do, lol!
When I first bought my Dash, it had WM 5 on it, and there was a setting for JOGGER sensitivity. Not one of the "cooked" ROMS I have used here have such a setting, thus even breathing on the JOGGER can set it scrolling/clicking madly.
How about it Kavana, NRG, Rickywatts? Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the JOGGER?

The only way that I know to adjust any type of sensitivity on the jogger is the speed of it. The faster you set it , the more sensitive it will be to the touch, and viceversa.
So, I think I figured the vibration. I was closing the Texts when I saw it pop up in the conversation, you know 6.1 has threaded texting, so I thought it would send it once it popped in, but I noticed that you still got to wait for the OK Info to come up to confirm the message has been sent. So far all good and no more vibration. So far...
Joggr don't matter. I set it to adjust volume only since I use the keys to scroll up and down.
1) What about the fact that I didn't have to setup anything (WiFi etc)? Is the setting up something that only non-USA resident have to do? Or...?
2) And does anyone have an MSN Messenger (or something close to it) that works on TEXTS and NOT data? I looked everywhere but nothing! Thank you.
3) I tried to look up here on xda and on Google, key mapping... kmap... notepad kmap... etc, but nothing. What I would like is et9 that has the USA Dash keyboard layout (keeping the t for CeleTasks of course) but also et9 for US English and Italian. I installed the et9TegicFull but the keyboard layout is UK English. I modified the .txt files in the et9 folder but the tab and symbol keys do not work except for writing 0 and going to the camera. Anyone?
4) When I restart the phone, the options on the media sliding panel on the home screen work fine. If I click on images, it goes to images, if I click on profiles, it goes to profiles. However, I noticed that the wifi one works fine at first, but after 3 times or so that I use it/click it, it stops working and to get on wifi I have to go to Start>CommManager and click on wifi icon. Even when I click on the right soft key (when on the media sliding panel home screen) which is connection settings, and I click on commmanager there with the center key... nothing. It clicks, but doesn't go anywhere. Why?
Thank you.
Anyone please?
1) If your router is not encrypted then it would just connect, if it is encrypted you must have put in a key.
The rest if set up don't worry generally have to run connection steup.
2) You want OZ Messanger think only jdog & Mikey know how to set up?, You could set up Yahoo on home computer and when people sent message will come to phone and can reply via text.
3) Not sure what you mean does nothing work?
4) Sounds like a hard-reset needed bruv as never had probs with Commanager on Kavana's

1) I mentioned wifi just to make an example. I didn't have to setup anything like carrier sms mms etc but I see in the guides that some people do? Mine just restarted fine.
2) I have unlimited texts. I have T-Mobile OZ Messenger and it works. I have AIM, ICQ and Yahoo. I was wondering if someone has an MSN program that works on texts. Also, I noticed that when I open the .cab file for the oz messenger on my desktop, it has an MSN file. I was wondering how to make that one show instead of ICQ. Maybe it will work?

So, if I were to click on wifi, I would get a panel when I can click on/off. Ok? It works fine for the first 3 times I use, but then... when I click on the wireless manager on the home screen again, it doesn't go anywhere. Why? For it to work again I have to reboot the phone.
See...
This is Wireless manager...
When I reboot my phone, if I go to it and click on it... I get this...
But after a while, both this

when I click on them with the silver center button, do not work. Got it? Send To Phone

1) Yes thats why the second sentence
2) Just use OZ if you got set up, MSN messanger does not do text.
3) I needed clarification don't think possible as can't have Tegic & T9full, Tegic English is US eT9 English is UK
4) You have something wrong if you cannot always access commanager, to which is why say hard-reset. "not normal behaviour" lol no need for pictures i'm not a noob
I know you are not. But maybe I was not clear.
1) Reason I ask if its cool that everything worked at once on its owns is because I was wondering if maybe later on I will encounter issues. Wanted to get them out of the way now.
2) So, there is no MSN Messenger or other program for WinMo that works on texts? Wow.
3) I could simply install the et9 Tegic Full with 14 languages and remap the notepad files. I did so, but I can't get the tab to work as a tab, it just types 0, and the symbol button just works for activating the camera or it writes an e'. I was wondering if I can change something in the notepad files to make those two work because other than that I fixed the problem. Anyone?
4) Alright, I will try hard reset. Will this delete everything or no? Anything I should watch out for? Thanks.

Default enable XT9 for physical keyboard layout

Hi guys,
Bit of an annoying one this that I hope one of you extremely clever registry devs can tweak for me.
When writing emails / text messages i always use the physical keyboard, however I like the XT9 setting as it automatically spell checks and inserts capitals / punctuation etc.
The problem is i can easily set it to XT9 in the settings or by opening the software keyboard and pressing the ABC / XT9 button
or
by using the green function key, space (XT9), XT9 English
but as soon as I've completed my message or turned off the handset etc. it's forgotten, meaning I have to do this manually each time.
Is there any way to set default as XT9 in registry?
Kind Regards
Darren
Anybody got any ideas here? Driving me mad doing it manually every time.
I've just got my new TouchPro2 and I'm suffering from exactly the same problem. I love the new phone but this is the one thing that's driving me nuts!
I used to have it in my TPro and now it's gone missing in the TP2
I know, well you can still use it but many keypresses per use.
Slightly annoying.
I find this highly annoying too. I don't see why it can't be in XT9 as standard or at least just remember the last setting used!?
It's working!!! I've just found out that if you activate T9 in the Full QWERTY virtual keyboard, you'll get it work using the hardware keyboard.
did you not even read the original post?
of course it works like that, however only for that session. as soon as you're done and try and send another text or email etc you'll have to press those buttons again to activate it.
I don't have any problem typing using T9 messages after another using the hardware keyboard...
Even after I soft reset it, it's still working
haha brilliant, worked it out.
Here's the fix...i think.
Open new message in portrait, open software keyboard, click XT9 and then OK to close the window.
Rotate handset and do the same, open software keyboard, select XT9 and quit using "OK".
After this it should default to XT9.
You need to use the OK to close though and save the setting. If you send or cancel your settings will be forgotten.
This will save for all portrait and landscape modes. You'll need to do it for each area but i can agree that i have it saved in texts and emails now.
No more having to repeat actions over and over again.
Edit: seems to only save sometimes, also totally unable to save the XT9 setting in Touchflo conversation mode with text messaging.
bump...
I really enjoy using the functionality of xt9. And subsequently would greatly appreciate it having it available while using the hardware keyboard. any thoughts of having this available by default without having to set it to XT9 each time i open the keyboard
There has to be a registry setting somewhere...

It does "per session" but it does not stick on program close/reset.
boooooooooooooooooooo....man i hope someone can figure this out
Has anyone figured this out? It's really annoying that I have to enable XT9 with several different keystrokes at the beginning of any txt msg...

HD/WVGA Tweak
On some customer ROM's I have seen a program called WVGA or HD Tweak. I searched and found CAB file for this as well. In this software, there is an option to turn on X9 all the time. You can also set how many suggested words to pop up. It reminds me of how the WING would operate when it suggested words!
Wow, thread starter, you read my mind. I've been looking for something like this since the day I got my phone.

This turns on Windows Default X9, which makes phone SIP & compact qwerty SIP inoperable (only outputs numbers). So, this in no way is a fix.
And, the cab you're referring to is EZInput 1.5 specific, has 0 affect on EZInput 2.x.

same thing happened to me when I tried to use it. Turns the phone SIP inoperable.
no solution for this issue yet? (aka, bump!)

Unique problem with Texting and Start menu and Activesync

I am running Mighty Rom on my Touch pro 2. My texting tab just disappeared for no reason at all. I cant get text, send them, or even read my existing ones any more. I tried to reflash the Rom and activesync wont connect and my start menu will not open for me to fix it. Any help would be nice. Thanks.
