WVGA layout for Free42 available (beta version) - Touch HD Themes and Apps

I lack a good RPN calculator on Blackstone, so I have done a WVGA layout for Free42 HP-42 simulator, available for Pocket PC (see http://free42.sourceforge.net/).
This is a beta version, but quite usable. Display is not exactly on scale, and display color need to be changed. Annunciator bitmaps are not present.
Maybe other member can ameliorate this layout.
Just unzip WVGA42.zip in Free42 directory, and select WVGA42 layout. Have fun !

Despite this seems to interest nobody , I post an updated version of WVGA layout for Free42.
Annunciator are present, diplay better colored and centered.
There is still room for amelioration, but this version deserve a "V1.0", not beta anymore.
Have fun ! (really !)

Looks good - will check it out

Been a long time since I've used a proper scientific calculator, but a very nice skin! Much more useful than the basic calculator in WM, now I just have to learn to use it

Even with an honours degree in mechanical engineering, I still don't understand reverse Polish notation nor why anybody would use an RPN calculator. I guess your audience for this work is very small which is why you had no responses...

as fast as I get my THD i will test it, it's just what I'm looking for.
many thanks

thanks! this was the high res skin i was looking for to use on an HTC Diamond 2. Works perfectly

Thank very much, good for HD2.

Another possible reason for lack of response is that it should have been posted in the Touch HD Themes and Apps forum which is where I've moved it

Possible i can skin it to dusk with the original grafics. I will take a look today, but there is no time before march.
I have todo so many work in my day job until then. But it is possible i will do it and publish them here and in my dusk thread...

I was hoping to find this some day..
Your WVGA v1 skin looks awesome! Thank you very much!

Where to get a VGA Skin for CorePlayer?

Hi,
i have recently installed the last version coreplayer on the hd, but it seems like the original skin is only up-scaled, as the buttons look rather "unsharp". I'm satisfied with the skin itself (some buttons could be a bit larger though) and don't need special design gimmiks, but a bit better appearance would be nice...
although i've done some google and forum search, it seems to be difficult to find vga skins for that application, and on the developer's site nothing seems to be mentioned about vga or skin download...
so does anybody have a vga skin with full functionality or a link for a skin download?
regards jan
I've been looking for a decent skin for ages but after a bit of searching everything I find is pretty poor. I hope someone can suggest a source for skins because I certainly can't find any nice ones.

I would be satisfied already with the original skin in a proper (w)vga resulution... but the nicer the better...
I got a black skin compatible with HD of this forum but I cannot remember where.
I have attached the file. Unzip and read the .txt file. Credit to the other guy.

Thaks, but i've seen (and tried) this skin earlier...
...first of all it seems to be a qvga skin as well, as the buttons and backgound look the same unsharp like in the original skin,
... in addition that skin doesn't seem to work fully (for me), e.g. the "filter icons" on the left side are not displayed...
... so I hope more people can post links for vga skins...

I would really appreciate that work. I'd even try myself, but unfortunately I don't have enough time by now to do it... it looks quite complicated and I don't know much about xml...
... the problem with the skins posted on the previous page is that they all seem not to be really vga, as the buttons and the background look quite "unsharp"...
...another problem with some of the black skins on the previous page is that the filters and "current selection" are not nisplayed at all, at least on my device... with other skins it works...
regards and good luck
p.s. if you just need some help creating the buttons and other graphic elements in vga, feel free to ask me for support
Here is a little teaser
After an hour or so here is a very basic skin - it needs ALOT of work it's NOT FULLY FINISHED so when I get time I will polish it off nicely...
Looks a darn site better than the default one though.
Unzip it drop it in program files/coreplayer
Should keep your eyes happier while I try to get to grips with the XML
that looks really nice already... is the skin now a real vga one or an expanded qvga one?
the search bar for youtube doesn't work (at least on my hd), several functions are still completely missing (but you've written that in youir post)... but once again: great work, looks really nice already... if you need assistance creating vga buttons let me know...

CPS nice work so far. This skin would be cool. Good luck with development, I'll happily test it for you.
Wish I could help, but have no idea about it.

Pointui Home 2

Pointui Home 2 is Out.
Not testing yet, i just install it, but looks prety great!
http://www.pointui.com/
Runs and looks great, but things i dont like:
- Too much space at the buttom and
- i had to install it on the internal storage and not on the SD Card
But the rest is, as i said before, great. Good work i think.
Finally!
Looks and feels great - I think I would def upgrade to pro for unified messaging etc.
I am a happy bunny! Might just have to ditch touch flo 3d
Dont work for me Have a Swedish stock ROM.
runs great!!!
well it was running good until it locked up my device lol, soft reset time
I dont like it, something is missing
It looks really great and the animations are smooth. But it misses some features but I think they will come some time because it seems rather easy to write Apps for it. Not like Manila where you have many problems with adding your own stuff.

yes going to have to agree here. I am open to trying out new versions, definitely has potential with some additions and things you mentioned
No Thanks
I was a massive fan of PointUI v1 and had been looking forward to v2 being another huge step forward.
However, I have to say that it looks like a great big bag of crap next to TF3d (and I'm not a big fan of TF3d). Furthermore it seems to have limited functionality, is only a plugin and although it openly states it is a beta, the tone of the feedback in this site is distinctly mixed.
I think I would forgive the bugginess if it just looked better and brought something I thought was useful. But even the screenshots on PointUI's own site look poor quality.
Lastly, the 'Pro' version is paid for software - so how much? What will it do that Mobile Shell and WAD don't? Maybe the applet development will make it a must have...but it certainly needs a few good skinners on the case...
In summary...disappointed - just my personal opinion

Agreed. Not impressed at all...I'm sticking with WAD.
mmm
Yup aggred , instaled it .. and it was not as " smoth " as the 1.X, why have small buttons?.. why have news feeds?
I have a theme now for TF3D and it kinda looks goods... staying with that for a while .. sorry point guys
I quite like it, but it seems that I'm in the minority.
I've added my home town to the weather applet without any trouble at all, also local news in the today feed. Not sure why someone was having a problem configuring that. Pilot error?

You can get from here
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/ifonz.shtml
try Mallman's stuff at www.swampthing.net
I have used it and works pretty well.
it also runs on WAD2
Excellent thanks for the links guys, very helpful.
Whats the big difference in the ifonz and swampthings software?
I mean there is one sitting there for free, or there is one where I would have to spend $15 on the WAD, then $2.50 on the program?

Thanks or the advertising lol. As for the freeware ifonz theme, you can certainly use this but you will need to mod it just a little. There are qvga and vga versions, not Wvga. If youa re looking for the most inexpensive way to get an iphone theme this is the way to go.... you will just have to resize the icons and such. Should work fine though.
Not sure what engine this uses because all of mine use WAD2. Looks interesting though. I would say try ifonz first and if it meets yoru needs you haven't spent a dime I am going to try it as well and see what i can do with it
ok i have downloaded the vga version and installed it. See screenshot. The only real complaint I have is that it runs pretty bad. Not unusable but the motions are not fluid. I think I see the files that make it work and it seems you could probably modify these files yourself to get better quality icons. The real benefit to using this is you save the $15 on WAD2. Of course anyone who uses WAD2 would probably admit it is the best thing since sliced bread if you want to customize your interface.
However, this is free and it pretty neat. I say give it a try before you do anything else. If it completely suites your needs then you are all set guys. For the record, i think it has a lot of potential. I will be toying with it a little in the future.
As the author of WAD2, i wouldn't recommend the theme above. There is a reallly good, high-quality iPhone theme for WAD2 by a user called "Torx" in our forums. It's not VGA (at least, not the last time I checked), but it is free and a better quality than the one linked to at the top of this thread.

agreed for the quality reasoning. I would recommend buying WAD2 for tha treason. I was only suggesting the above for the free factor. But, you get what you pay for.
Not greatly impressed with ifonz, so when i get some cash, will be buying WAD2 and the swampthing theme.
purchased!
Im very very impressed, good theme.
Just wondering how to link my own applications to each of the iphones on screen buttons?
For instance calculator, weather etc...?
does it run better with TF3d disabled?

yes it runs free and clear of TF3d, it is a total replacement for TF3D. You can change any of the links the buttons link too by tap/hold any spot on the screen that is empty. Select author mode. Now tap/hold the button you want to change and select properties. Select script. Edit the script. Enjoy You can also find this detail in the swampthing FAQ at:

Somewhere here on xda is a thread for a theme generator that is linked to this site: http://ppcthemeonweb.benthon.com/ThemeOnWebEn.htm
At that site, you can generate themes to your heart's content. You just have to get some Christmas images of your choice and save the Jpegs on your computer to be used by the online theme generator.
yes
Thanks man, really!!

You just need to know your screen resolution when you select the initial theme. Prior to this, you need appropriate pix stored in a directory. Then you will set up the landscape and portrait lay outs. If I remember correctly, once you tell the website you want to create the theme, it will provide a link for the download of the theme it creates using your info.
The developer did a nice job and does not add watermarks or other info indicating his site was used to create your theme.
I did one or two themes just after I discovered the thread here and have the exterior website as a Favorite.
If you're going to publish your theme, I'd recommend going to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page unless you're good at creating home made pix. Wiki Commons has pictures that are in the Public Domain that can be used without violating a copyright. Typically if you use a picture in the Common Domain, you might want to attribute where you found it and release using the same Public Domain license.
Using the Search box off to the left side of the screen will call up pictures.
Good luck!
I've tried it guick but it looks like it's not for blackstone? no WVGA res?
and in the preview with my pics, it looks like it's for devices without touch? I know it has nothing to do with touch or no touch, I just wants you to know wich phones I mean. Like blueberry devices.

It creates a very basic theme one probably more suited for non-touch/non-TouchFlo PDA or smartphone. It's capable of creating every smartphone's theme - you just need to know your phone's resolution. I don't have a Blackstone or knwo what WVGA is. I have built two basic QVGA themes for my Jade Clone because I looked up my resolution and worked with the online theme generator to build themes.
You have to become your own master if you want to have Christmas themes.
HTC Touch HD resolution is 480x800..
There were no such resolution to choose.
Tried HDWall but can't get it to work, will try even more
Thanks for your help man

[APP][RELEASE] Metro Calculator - a simple WP7 style calculator

Hi,
in the meantime while working on my new UI (it's getting harder and harder...) I've made a simple Windows Phone 7 style calculator. It's a kind of preview of how I'd like my new interface to look like.
I hope you like it
Currently only for VGA (although it should work fine on WVGA). The cab includes the new Segoe WP font.
Code:
[B]Changelog[/B]
[I]0.9.0 - 25.06.2010:[/I]
- first release (VGA)
[I]01.07.2010:[/I]
- all resolutions supported
Is it possible to skin the HTC calc to Metro so you get all of the landscape and mathmatic benefits with the same UI?
Sure, why not.
hey, that looks really nice! Cant wait to get that on my xperia x1, with spb mobile shell Windows phone 7 stlye, would perfectly fit!
Very nice App! Looks good!
Can't wait to test it
Sorry for the delay, but I did not realise how advanced can a simple calculator be I've implemented all the functions of a standard calculator and it took me some time to get it all right. I hope to release it today evening, so stay tuned.
Released!
Any bug reports or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks a lot.
Will write about this
I'd like to test it but unfortunately there's no qvga-version.
Do you plan to make one?
That would be very nice!
orb3000, great, thanks!
jonas9398, right now I'm working on my own interface but maybe if I get some spare time I'll do the other resolutions.
Hey, this looks like a great little app!
I tested on WVGA, it doesn't fill the screen so that's that tested and also the buttons are standard WM buttons, see screenshot attached.
This is using EnergyROM which has edited WM buttons so I'm not sure if that affects it or not.
Well, making the WVGA version means only changing the layout so the buttons fill all the screen I'll try to find some time during the next few days to do that.
I did not realise that the WM buttons can be changed... Nevertheless it look quite good with those rounded buttons

Yeah it does look pretty good with these, it's the only ROM I've seen with buttons that aren't the flat "grey" ones, maybe ask NRGZ how he did it?

Dzięki -fajny kalkulatorek !!!
Gr8 man !!!!
lovely dude i like it keep up the good work
Looks terrific and it matches the SPB Mobile Shell WP7S theme beautifully but the calculator doesn't seem to be able to recognize the comma as a decimal place. I'd like to use this as my shopping calculator but without being able to enter decimal places I cant use it for that. Great app, though, hope this bug can be sorted out.
Thanks for the report, but could you give me an example? I didn't notice any bug so it would be good to reproduce it so I could see what's wrong
No Blue
I got the calculator on my HTC Imagio, but the button background is white, not blue. I even double checked the settings. Any help or info would be appreciated!
