arggghhh very frustrated - want new ROM - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

okay so heres my situation -- im new to smartphones/ppc and i got an HTC Fuze for christmas this year. I really love the phone but its obviously slow / crammed with ATT bull**** and I'd like a custom ROM.
I've been haggling with this for a while now and reading for the past few days. I downloaded Raphaels HARDspl v1.90 and installed it onto my phone. I want to put Duttys V3.6b Final ROM on my phone now but I cant get it to work. it says the update utility doesnt work or something of that nature.
I've obviously screwed up and I really just want to know what I need to do to get this fixed and running. I'm not necessarily concerned with flashing tons of different ROMs as i just want one that speeds up my device and has some key software. I dont even know if that ROM is the best one out to date, but from what I've seen it appears that way.
All in all I'm just asking for help now...I've been reluctant to make this post because I see a lot of people here wanting others to hold their hands step-by-step, but after hours and days of searching forums on here / PPCgeeks I just dont know what to do.
Thanks, Jeff

Shouldn't you be in the Raphael section downloading ROMS instead of using diamond ROMS?

i dont know whats the difference is raphael another type of phone? did i royally screw up????

I guess next time if you search for a ROM on this forum you could search the right phone by looking at the picture of it in front of section.
But yeah you should be downloading ROMs from the Raphael section.

If you had searched you would have found ...... this quite accessible ... the only ROM that comes with one is .... this ...
But I think you need to do a fair bit more reading and searching before you go ahead and flashing stuff if you think touchflo is a ROM
Hehehe, thanks alot Zocster...Believe it or not, i did actually search and ive been reading alot of posts! Im not 1 of those forum idiots who randomly posts messages without reading anything...
However, i am TOTALLY new to this world! I decided to ditch the trusty old cell phone and move to a pocket pc/pda phone whatever you wanna call it I have decided on a TyTN and am now getting into the world of cooked ROMs and all the stuff you guys know all about
Im learning!!!

I seeI have an imate jasjam, so yeah you have a front camera I presume you would want to make video calls too then, so may be that ROM i mentioned not for you as it doesn't have video calling dial pad cooked in.
To be brutally honest, Ive had a Sony Ericsson K800i for a year and a half now and have NEVER used the video calling feature Our networks are rather unstable and its expensive, so why bother Im just looking for a fast, reliable ROM

Let me see then ... you have ten or so ROMs to try out took me two months to go through about 30 from pays, tnt, binky11s, now crc and pdacorner as my favs. You need to know what works for you, make sure you read the wiki, you don't want to kill your new toy ey ...
Welcome by the way .. saw it was your second post oh by the way, go the wallabies, even though i live in new zealand! hehe .. and this is for the trinations!
Much obliged Zocster!!!
Thanks alot for your help...I know that forum noobs are often ignored or flamed lol!!!
The problem i have is being a complete newcomer to this stuff...I honestly dont know where to start, I was hoping there would be a poll with "your favorite ROM" or something, then at least id have somewhere to start

Sorry mate, honestly, ... trying it yourself is the only way you can judge, read the wiki, and try out different roms, as i said what is good for me may not be good for you. So go try them all out and make up your mind from experience. I have had my phone for two months and I have been through honestly about 20 or so roms before i made up my mind, each chefs have got their own style and yeah you need to determine what style suits you.
Thanks alot, will definitely do so
One more question...In my research on the P4350 which uses the 200mhz OMAP cpu, i read that there is an app to overclock (and declock) the device, does the TyTN have a similar app??

If you want to keep your device for another couple of years, then no, it is not recommended. it is doable, but it would not be doing your device any favour.
Well since the reviews i read all said the TyTN is powerful enough, im actually more interested in declocking the device when i dont need the power, to save battery life

hmm, you need to try the roms available, and once you get applications such as BT GPS, BT Stereo, MP3 etc going, plus the touchflo extension you mentioned, it ain't all that powerful.
These chefs have done their best to make the most out of a device that is 2 years old. so ... yeah it isn't that powerful, but yes you will determine that when you have run a couple of things on the hermes have fun, ...
Starbase has the cab on his 4shared site. I have had it before, but find it useless, the touchflo that schaps has is better for finger scrolling and quick landscape mode switches however.
Good to see more South Africans here. (From South Africa myself). As Zocster said, just try the roms out. Been flashing my TyTN at least once a week. Just remember to Hard-SPL first.

Glad someone remembered.....
lol thanks guys!!!
Been reading the guides and the wikis, will definitely hardSPL first
first of all make hardspl ! it is the first thing you need to flash into your tytn....what you meen about -toch flo- ? many component may be instaled on any rom. personaly I use 3ppc.net russian 6.1 rom, whith htc home today plugin (one part of tochflo) included. for finger scroling I use ftochFlo, cube not use at all - personaly I found it useless....(anyway - there are some custom cube on 'hacking and developing' section of developers, as for me it much better than original.)
about overclock. sumsung procesors (which use tytn) is wery bad in frequency control. looks like time generator somehow connected whith main frequency - when you changing it, a lot of bugs appear....for example - if you overclocked cpu, you will notice that music/video/e.t.c. will run more fast that it needed. no need to worry about cpu power consumtion - it low anyway for samsung cpu. much more buttary will eat 3g, wifi, backlight e.t.c.

want WM6.1 but chicken

hey all,
im very new to all the hacking and flashing , i want to try the upgrade but afraid that i will mess it up and not have all the current apps i have placed on the Dash... speaking of Dash is the Caliber the same as dash? and will the upgrade act the same on the dash... i know NOOB!!! It's cool. We've all been here before. I would say that the benefits of 6.1 definitely outweighed any concerns I had with flashing. I grew sick of hearing about all the advances that everyone else experienced with 6.1--while I was still using 6.0! You won't be disappointed!
FYI... PLEASE read the stickies located at the top of the Excalibur page. They'll be extremely helpful concerning any questions you may have. Just read through the posts in the various threads and 98% of your future questions will be answered.
P.S. Yes, the Excalibur and the Dash are the same device.

yep , the bad part of flashing is reinstalling all your apps , wallpaper ,etc.
But 6.1 is worth every bit of it

I agree with you it is worth so much... Kinda sucks to redo everything but hey it overcomes all that because 6.1 is so sick...

Install Tilt WinMob 6.1 on 8525 what if?

What would happen if I attempted to download (from htc) and install the windows mobile 6.1 update for the tilt on my 8525? I am currently running SPL-2.10.Olipro.. do you thing it would brick the phone? I mean why wouldn't it work? The tilt is a 400mhz process same as the 8525.. only added features on the tilt is the GPS and auto focus camera...Any thoughts? yes I am a noob.

you are welcome to be the first one to try! such old questions that has been answered many many times.
i am not talking about cooked versions.. I am talking about OEM. I rather not be the first one to try but technically what would happen?
first of all the RAM and ROM size is different, it will turn your hermes to a brick ... but again, you're more than welcome to be the first one to try.
well then that is all I needed to know. That is the reason why I can not do it.. cause the ram and the rom size is different. Thank You.
You wont be able to install it. But if you would like to brick your hermes, then go ahead and try it and let us know
GOD DAMN!!! Congrats Men!
The most inspirated question i have heard I come from wizard threads and letme tell you...
The RUU original will tell you ERROR (XXXX) Wrong device or wrong ID or wrong ROM Update Utility
God Damn!!! but if you try to extract the NBF from the exe with winrar...
maybe it's named Ruu_signed.nbf for Hermes... or its calle NK.nbf as in Wizard or maybe is called Dont_extract_me_fool.nbf
Maybe yopu can rename it to RUU Signed.nbf and put it on RUU Wrapper and run it!!!
I know a guy that has an Universal and flash a Custom rom for Wizard on its...
OBVIOUSLY it is bricked!!!! a blank screen only! no Bootloader no hardreset.
So... answered bye

I know that this has been answered--NO but I thought you might like to know a bit more.
1--The hermes uses a completely different chipset and video set up.
2--the ROM and RAM sizes are completely different. The tilt has more than two times the amount that the hermes has
3--The Hermes is a single processor device running a 400Mhz as you stated but the tilt is a dual processor device --one running the os and the other handling the calls to hardware such as the radio and gps.
4--The devices take completely different drivers. You should have researched the specs before asking this type of question.
Finally, winmobile is not like xp. It is not built to handle any hardware you through at it. It is very customized for the hardware on which it is installed. It has to be to fit in the small storage on these devices.
There are 6.1 versions of cooked roms already for the hermes. just use one of those! Better yet, don't ever flash your device because ...well I am sure you can figure out the rest of that sentence!
Tilt is very old phone...
Tilt rom!? such a old phone. Why would you install old phone rom on your nice hermes? Try some new rom ... I know, why don't you try the Diamond rom? I like that one . let us know how it works... Hey, and welcome to XDA forum... allways good to have a another new cook.

Enjoy your fantastic and fabulous thread.... n00bs!!!
I think he wants an original 6.1 on his hermes... thats all... but men why dont you read there is a thread with this question.
I think we all got our noob bashing off our chest and I think the OP has got the message its not a good idea. How bout we drop this pointless thread now.....
Another noob here
I realize that y'all become impatient and annoyed with noobs, but this very question is what led me to this site in the first place. I apologize that I'm just a concerned and inexperienced consumer trying to gain knowledge from the best source I can find online, and that I haven't really mastered searching this site as well as everyone else to find the answers to my dilemma.
I have an AT&T 8525 and HTC told me that they aren't going to do any more updates, and also, no, I can't download the Tilt ROM onto my phone. In fact, they planned to pull the WM 6 ROMs off their site on October 31. I just rechecked the HTC site this evening, and they've removed *all* updates for the 8525 from the page I used to visit. So if I brick my phone by doing some silly noob thing, I can't even go back and get the old WM 6.0 ROM.
I've already had the opportunity to see the new AT&T Fuze since it hit the stores yesterday, but I'm wary of buying it the minute it comes out. I would prefer to lurk for a while and see what the rest of y'all have to say in the Raphael forums before I spend the money.
Please be charitable to people like me who are just trying to be cautious. I love the phone I have because it's been very reliable, but yet it's obvious that there is a "planned obsolescence" for the 8525. Meanwhile, I'm just looking here for something I can do to get WM 6.1 for my 8525 until I'm satisfied that they've gotten the bugs out of the Fuze. I think there's still plenty of life left in my 8525 and you might say I just want to renew my love affair with it.
OK, noob rant over..thanks for your consideration!
Step 1... Install Hard SPL V7 onto your 8525. It helps recover your Hermes if it does go south while doing the update.
Step 2... Look at the WM06 section of the forum. Just about ALL the roms displayed there at the moment are Wm6.1. Read the Chefs writeup about their ROM and see if you like it.
If you did a search with the keywords "Hermes roms" it may have led you back to the original stock ROMs and cooked ROMs. These are pretty old now though.
Cheers...
It doesn't hurt to actually get your own library of ROMs, I made sure I have my stock Telstra rom stored on my hard drive. Since you knew that the stock ROM you use was about to be pulled you should've downloaded it so if something does go wrong you actually have it and don't remain victim to HTC's will. Now it may be harder to find the stock rom you use...

Oy another one of these threads... Which build did you try? FRX01 is probably the most 'stable', but none of them are what I would consider truly stable.
So if you're not up for troubleshooting & tinkering, please just stick to WinMo.
If you are having the issue with startup.txt becoming corrupt, there are easy workarounds, just read through the Project Android thread or do a search.

i can tell by your lack of posts and info that ur gonna be bricking your phone quite soon, so in order to save US from unsearched question after unsearched question, i suggest just go get an iphone. im pretty sure android and winmo are gonna be a LITTLE to complicated for you if ur already getting "mad" and "sad" over something as small as the haret issue.
