Reset mod
What did you use for the donut to fill the hole you drilled out? Nice idea. Will save the battery cover clips.
BTW, are you having to reset that much?

please post dimesion specifics.
i my self had to take the battery cover several times and each time i do, i worry about the plastic on the side of the phone wearing or getting groved out. especially when several people had already complained about battery cover not staying on. i my self had no problems so far.
i think the hole is usefull especially if your trying out new untested software which tends to lock up the system. it seems that my phone mostly locks up when i cant get a good solid wi-fi connection (im way to far from the signal). i had it lock up on my several times when trying to update on the panel screen and several occasion when playing with my gps at home. ive read that the gps locking up could be caused by a bad download of the quickgps file.

I use the PHM Soft Reset - 1 click soft reset utility found here http://www.modaco.com/content/xperi...4005/pauls-must-have-free-xperia-x1-software/
Just another thought, how different is a soft-reset from turning the phone off and back on. Is it the same thing?

i havent tried a software reset but some times when my phone locks up, no buttons will work or no programs can run and so i think a software reset will not work unless the battery is taken out or the reset button pressed.

When windows mobile crashes you can't run a software utility to reset the phone.
Ok, the hole isn't nice to see, but it's very useful.
put a small piece of paper soaked with ink in the reset button hole. Then close the battery cover. Open the battery cover and you can see the exact point to drill.
You must use a mini-drill, like dremel
Anyway that's not an easy thing to do.
Think about it carefully before proceeding

i gave that inspiration weeks ago.
thanks for your pictures. but the hole is very big.
a one millimeter hole would look better. but then the stylus is not usable to reset
looks not great.
but a new battery cover isn`t expensive )
next time drill an 1 mm hole and use a needle/paper clip to press resetbutton

since i had gotten my x1a on 29 nov, i would say i had to do a reset of my phone a total of 5 times. i finally did this mod after tomtom 7 locked up on me and so when i had to remove that back cover i drilled out a small hole. got to say that the hole turned out great. you can almost say it could of been put there by the factory.
here is couple tips and info:
measure, measure, measure and re-measure.
check, double check, and triple check the position.
tape the back cover (i taped the back side of where the drill was going to come out thru the cover).
use a new sharp bit and start off with the smallest bit.
try and put a small little dent so the bit doesnt walk off (i used a scribe to put to mark my spot and place a small dent in it).
take your time, dont press hard where you will make a dent on the other side of it. it will take a while to drill because i think the back cover is made of stainless steel (that was kind of a shock to me cause i thought it was made of aluminum).
now i dont have to worry about damaging anything or wearing out a grove in the side of the where phone cover grabs on to.
not of the faint heart to do this mod if your still babying your phone.

(Looks good. There is no German in this thread)
Guys, I'm a man that is going to buy an X1 Xperia. From your interesting conversation, it seems that X1 puts its reset button inside the battery cover? So we can't press the reset button from outside of the phone?
That's a bad design.

yeah bad design. there is a way to do a software hard reset but most of the time when the phone locks up, none of the buttons work.

Help needed: How to get in to bootloader without camera button.

Last night´s party was pretty good, but my beloved kaiser ended in the floor after flying 10ft. Now I am having some issues with the hardware buttons, especially with:
°Camera- just not working, and nedded to bootloader aka tricolor screen
°Phone answer- not really needed, I can answer via touchscreen
°Settings- some times work, some other no.
°D-Pad down - just down not working, center top left and right works well.
°OK- some times work, some other no.
°Keyboard P,O,L, Del not working.
So, I am in deep ****, especially because I want to get a new nbh loadeed, but I cant get in to the bootloader using camera+reboot.
Any Ideas? Thanx!
get a new one? that seems pretty rough. right now on ebay you can find one for around $50 if your patient
You might have loosened the cable, or the cable might be damaged. I've dropped my Wizard once, and this happened. Turns out the cable got loose.
The Kaiser has a cable inside, that moves when you open and close the keyboard. This cable can also easily wear out, or accidentally pulled.
I pulled this image from Kaiser Service manual PDF. You can easily see the connector and cable for the front. As you can see, it's pretty easy to loosen the connector from an accidental drop. BTW, Kaiser Service Manual will tell you step by step in how to take apart the Kaiser. You will need a Torx screw driver T5 and T6, not to forget one extremely small Philips screw driver.

Just reconnect the cable. I recommend getting contact cleaner to lube and clean it first. You can pick up one of these at your local radio shack. Wonderful stuff. Good idea to spray every connector you come across.
Also, if you damaged any of the plastic (like I did) you can repair it easily with a soldering pen, and extra broken plastic lying around. I dropped my Kaiser once, and chipped off a piece of plastic. Nothing wrong with the phone, but cosmetically it annoyed me. Easily took it apart and repaired it with my soldering iron, and some extra pieces of black broke plastic. Just remember the front bezel (where the screen is) isn't plastic, but metal. The center and back is made out of plastic, that btw melts easily to a soldering iron.
Here's an example of some guy repairing a bike doing this. Do it right, and it's strong. Do it wrong, and it'll break easily under stress.
Thanks for the advice. I'll try it tonight.

Yesterday I disassembled my Kaiser, and cheched all the cables, but it didn't work. Still the same issues.
So I want to know if there is a way via software thru android to get in to the tricolor screen.
I am using kallt kaffe's nbh and eclair.
Thanks!

no not with android sorry.
if you know how to solder, try resoldering the leads for the camera button.
If the cable wasn't the reason, then you may have to take apart the front screen itself. The front screen is a mess of connections, so you may wanna check them.
I went the whole way dismembering the Kaiser. Cleaned all the connections, and checked all were in place.
Still no luck.
I believe something went really wrong in the motherboard in the last drop.
It´s a shame 'cause this is a very nice piece of hardware and have been with me for the last 3 years.
Maybe its time to use the AmEx and get a Nexus One.
Thank you guys for all the help.
Just a note on this, if the keypad or dpad were the only things with issues, I'd have suspected the main flex also, however as the camera button is firmly fixed to the mainboard, then the damage must have been more serious.
Afraid it might take a lot of serious disassembly and probably a few hours with a microscope to find any fractured connections, which is the usual type of damage after heavy impact. Also the connector for the main flex and the camera button are both on the same side of the mainboard.
I feel your pain, it's one thing to honourably retire a device for an upgrade, but losing one in action is a different thing altogether
Thank you guys for your help. As we speak I am unboxing mi new x10.
If anyone thinks my old kaiser could be used as a spare parts, i can send it for free, just you pay the shipping fee.
THANKS A LOT. I am moving to the X10 xda forum

Hey, I'm experiencing the same issue. I can boot to android, but nothing I do will get to the bootloader. Zenity tried to help also (thanks!)

Creaking w/ battery cover?

Anyone else's battery cover creak when it is pressed below the camera? I find that when I first put the cover on, it's fine, and then after a few hours, the creaking starts to show up. Wondering how normal this is.
I haven't heard anything from mine yet. One thing I used to do a lot on my Nokia N97 to stop that kind of creaking was to *LIGHTLY* bend out the pins that secure the back cover. Be careful not to overbend them or you'll end up shopping for a new back cover. I don't know how much that will help though, because from what I saw when I put my sim card in, was that all the connectors where located on the edges of the cover.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
No creaking hear. But then again, I didn't go looking for it
IMO, it's not a problem unless it happens without looking for it. All phones have some creaks if you start pressing on them from all different angles. Especially on parts that snap together.
Interesting. I definitely wasn't looking for the problem. it just happens all the time with normal use, because usually my index finger rests there when I'm on the phone, etc. Good to know it may just be mine though. Battery cover should be easy enough to get replaced.
My colleague pointed this out to me with his SGN, mine does it too. He placed a small adhesive padded sticky just below the cam. As i have a case, it doesnt bother me.
Any idea what he stuck to it exactly? That solutions sounds good enough for me
Not quite sure, will try to find out. It was a bit thick in my opinion though as the case stick out a bit around the lenses. Could probably take a scalpel to it tho to thin out the padding.

Got my nexus yesterday and noticed this. Although its not a big deal, its annoying once you notice it!
Do you guys know if Samsung would send me a new back cover for this or would I have to get the whole phone exchanged?
I have the same problem when I press on the green areas of the image I have a little creaking, but it feels when I press a little hard, but still bothers me because it's a $ 700 phone, I bought my phone on ebay to a Chinese seller, so I think I'll have to find a solution for myself.

I have this problem also. It is even worse with the extended battery cover. I love this phone overall but I am not impressed with the build quality.
Just to confirm, my SGN has exactly same weak spot on the back cover, but I'm fine with that It's still better built than my previous SNS with it's loose plastic frame
Yeah, plus on mine there is at least 2 mm between the battery cover and the phone itself just below the camera. Quite annoying ! I think I will put some ducktape.
Sent from xda appel ( Sorry for my bad english, I'm french)
I find this "creaking" almost being a feature I like to press and tap the back cover while waiting when the phone does something, such as downloads from market and so on... it keeps me occupied
I added a small bit of cotton fabric between the battery cover and the phone and it seems to have solved the problem. I just cut a bit about 1cm by 3cm and placed it below the camera. This way I don't have any sticky mess from tape in my phone and I hardly every open the back. Maybe I will super glue it eventually but it works fine to just wedge it in there for now.

I just solve my problem 2 days ago, I did was disassemble the phone and remove the housing and put it back, Now I have no creaking even in the battery cover, my phone is now like a rock.

Camera glass replacement?

I broke the glass behind the bezel and in front of my camera. I've checked everywhere I can think of and can't find it. Does anyone know where I can find one?
I thought the glass was part of thw bezel?
Nope. If it was, all the ebay stuff would work. Unfortunately, no glass included. One more post and I can finally start helping in the dev section! By way of rigorously testing the roms and reporting every little issue

I tried googling for it but could only find the bezel. Your best bet would probably be to find broken inc phone cheap (good glass of course), and take the glass out of it and put it in yours. You could probably get it direct from htc, but who knows what they would charge you.
Back in August the entire glass element AND the bezel wouldn't stay on the phone, so I had to replace the entire back housing just for the lens.

Then a couple months after that, I dropped it from about 3 feet while sitting on a chair and cracked the lens. Been like that since, but it doesn't affect the photos as far as I can tell. Unless the sunlight is hitting it at just the right angle.
Also replaced the speaker 3 times, until I found out I can just use a magnet to pull metal shavings off of it
And yet, I've never broken the glass. It's been dropped off the top of my truck (long way down), dropped in a pool w/100% submersion, and fell out of my pocket while on an ATV and run over. Soft ground saved it there as it was able to sink in. Never had a case either.

do you have a place called "tap plastics" in your town? they can make you an acrylic one that will work. http://www.tapplastics.com/ they just need the dims and thinkness of the glass used to be. or take it in to them. shouldnt cost to much.

Easy & Quick solutions: loose battery cover and that thingy under transparent strip

Easy & Quick solutions: loose battery cover and that thingy under transparent strip
Hello, lately i had problems with loose battery cover on my Xperia S, and, thinking about getting it even more loosy by leaving that be brought me to tinkering with easy and cheap solution, and i've found revertible and easy solution for both issues.
Loose battery cover:
A tiny layer of hot glue placed here (image 1) can fix your solution. Keep in mind that too thick layer can bulge the cover a little, work quickly and press on the S(E) logo firmly after cover installation to make the layer as thin as possible. Only drawback is that the glue needs to be reapplied every time you need to change your SIM card. glue can be easily removed without leaving any trace on the phone in case of warranty service request or selling the phone... to remove the cover just use a little bit more force than you are used to.
Image 1 - Personally recommended place to put the hot glue layer:

Loose plastic thingy covering antenna under transparent strip:
Using a gutiar pick or any similar object (definately NOT screwdrivers or any other metal tools, nails - they are too solid, too, and might damage the plastic, it's better to destroy gutiar pick than look of your treasured phone, trust me)
The picture below shows how to properly remove the thin plastic covering antenna:
Just be carefull and do not use too much force, the plastic is really thin... it might be kinda tricky but you should figure it out eventually...
after successfully removing the cover, use some glue designed to make plastic to plastic connections. (NOTE: cyanoacrylate based glues are not recommended - in case you need to put the cover off again, you will most likely destroy it... I've personally used Revell contacta glue compound designed to glue plastic models - it is firm, but the glue can be easily removed with little effort and the joint is not too superior so it will break sooner than the plastic cover)
After putting few drops of glue (the less is better) just carefully put it back in - this should be easier than removing it, just be sure to fit it properly, it's kinda PITA to put it back down... Let the glue dry and enjoy
DISCLAIMER:
Despite both methods are used and tested for one month by me, I take no responsibility for results. Basics of workmanship skills required (or at least recommended, if you are not comfy with putting your phone apart even a little, then entrust with the work somebody you believe he can get the job done, or just forget about this thread
Nice tips, although I solved the loose battery cover by placing two small bits of blu-tack on top of the two screws at the bottom left and right of the back. That has solved the issue without needing to reglue or get messy every time you need access to the SIM.
Thanks for another tip, when i need to access my SIM card i'll try your method, I've considered it first but i was sceptical a bit about the potential results
loose back cover
I actually just rolled some normal tape on itself and stuck it on the spot where the glue is put (didn't have glue).. Works perfect as well
The tape i've tryed now is most likely using weaker glue than yours and it's not as firm as i would expect but it's quicker solution and undoubtly less messy, not to mention that it doesn't require quick manipulation... I've used standard office transparent tape... i've no access to my toolbox atm as i'm @ work, so i'll try stronger tape when i return home... thanks for your tip

[Q] How to disable smart cover sensor on T800

Got the T800 6 days ago, love it.
On Sunday I got a Muvit butterfly stand case to go with it. Now this cover turns off the screen when I
fold it back. Even when it's in a reading stand and I pick it up and accidentally squeeze the cover towards the tablet it turns off the screen.
I hate it when I don't have control over my tablet. I looked for a solution by freezing a lot of Samsung apps, I disabled the smart cover option under settings, all to no avail.
Is there anything I can do? Perhaps flash a different kernel? I have rooted the latest official firmware, but apart from flashing twrp I haven't done anything else.
This is the case I got. I have no clue where the magnets are, and in any case, cutting them out would basically destroy it. So that's not a solution either.
http://www.tabletcenter.be/product-gallery/514549/category-195707/345915
Maybe:
If you heat a magnetic material above its Curie Temperature, its magnetism vanishes entirely. When the magnet cools down again, all the microscopic magnetic domains will point in circles, so the magnet will have zero overall field. Neodymium magnets have a low Curie Temp, so they are more sensitive to overheating than other types of magnets.
If you expose a magnet to the field from a strong electromagnet, the electromagnet will magnetize the magnet perhaps in a different polarity. But if we instead use an AC electromagnet, then move it away from the magnet, the magnet's polarity will flip back and forth, becoming weaker and weaker. The magnet will end up demagnetized. This is called Degaussing.
So...maybe you can find, or someone can suggest, a source for a strong AC magnetic field??? Then remove the tablet from the case and and introduce the case into the AC magnetic field??
On the S 10.5 the sensor is located in the lower right corner of the tablet. Looking at the screen, it's about 1/2 inch from the right and just about 3/4 inch from the bottom (just above where the black masking ends). You can use the tip of a magnetic screwdriver or something similar to pinpoint it. It can be activated from the either the front or the back of the tablet. It is just about where the red dot in the picture is located.
Just trying to help....

Thank you for your reply, never thought about degaussing the case's magnet. Interesting idea. I was originally thinking about going for a software solution but I'll certainly try to find do a way to perform your solution. BTW, the picture doesn't show in the tapatalk forum app nor on the Web based forum.
The again.
