Creating your own theme, how exactly do you get started? - G1 Themes and Wallpapers

I've searched the forums on how to develop a working theme for the G1 but I couldn't find a thread explaining on how to get started. From what I understand you first need the Android source. Can anyone provide a basic, or even detailed explanation on where to start? Thanks in advance.

Just wait... there will be a tutorial coming out from what I hear

I have just posted a tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466586
It is not finished but should guide you along quite nicely

Newbie Friendly Instructional Videos

So I created these instructional videos to help newbies out with loading ROMs etc.
TO ADVANCED USERS: I know that these procedures are not new but the instructional videos have seemed to help a lot of newbies and I think it would benefit anyone weary of attempting these procedures.
Please don't post how this is old news, I am well aware. These are just for newbies to help them get started. It also should help eliminate newbies asking the same questions over and over as most are answered right under the videos, and I'm sure you'll appreciate that
MODERATOR: Please sticky or add to any tutorial threads for the sake of the newbies.
Hope this helps some people out! Enjoy!
If anyone wants me to do any other videos in particular please let me know.

[Guide] Porting JB AOSP

Ok, I've gotten quite a few PMs about where and how to get started working with Android. I wrote up this guide to help people with porting AOSP ROMs. Be aware, there is no sure fire way to port and you probably will run into bugs and problems. I won't be able to help fix your problems just by someone saying "this or that doesn't work" or "I'm getting a bootloop". Please refrain from posting things like that in this thread. If you have a problem with something please post a link to the thread of the ROM you are trying to port and the base ROM and any other useful information and a logcat. I can give you ideas, however I am not going to do anything for you... it is a lot of trial and error and it's not for everybody. Search, search, search, there is a WEALTH of information on this site, use it... Search before you post, more than likely somebody is having or has had the same problem. That being said here is the guide for anyone interested, there are other guides out there but I wrote this one from my experience.

Good luck.
Minimum Requirements:
-A working knowledge of Android OS
-A working knowledge of Android terminology (see the link at the bottom if you are unsure about some terminology)
-A working knowledge of how to use 7zip or a similar program (as well as the program installed on your computer)
-A working knowledge of how to use Notepad++ as well as the program installed on your computer
Here is a very good thread to help you get started as well, if you are shaky on anything:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941195
Also this app may be useful, LAIA:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104750 Learn Android in Android
Happy Porting!
Man you are on a roll. Thank you for this, your roms, and all the help you give the community. Thank you

Newbie just wants bloat wear off

I'm new to the forums and am interested in learning how to root my specific phone (mix 2) using my desk top. I have been browsing the forums and can't seem to find it. A link or anything really pointing me in the right direction would be nice. Also when I see stuff like this %USERPROFILE%\adb-fastboot on the linage os guide I find my self lost. And that's just the part where I'm getting my PC set up.
Help will be greatly appreciated!
I'm ready to learn!
Definitely read through the /r/xiaomi wiki, a lot of basic knowledge is covered in there. https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/index
