Australian Map solutions? - Touch HD Themes and Apps

What Australian Mapping solutions are there?
I know TomTom offers Australian maps. what else for the HD?
Thanks mate.

G'day!
I had CoPilot Live 7 installed on my TytnII now trying to install it on HD will let u know of the outcome till then
Cya!

I have used Garmin Xt a lot and its awesome

But I don't believe Garmin XT has australian maps?

Route 66 Navigate 7. Don't get mobile 8, it's crap. Navigate 7 is full screen and fairly quick. It also tells me when to turn at the right time, TomTom was too early, then too late.

iGO 8.0.0 works prety well in Sydney and around. There are no maps yet for the newest versions of iGO AFAIK.

Garmint Mobile XT does have the latest Oz maps and it works a treat on the HD........
IGO8 does look nice, but its not upto date for OZ maps.

GPS Software recommendation.

Currently I'm using Mapking2007 G10.
I'll be going to San Fran in about a few days time and will be touring around California and Driving to Grand Canyon. So I was wondering what software would you suggest me getting?
I have a Dopod 838 pro and a Holux GPSlim 240 (Which btw, is damn good).
So i was wondering what software should i get?
I was reading up on tomtom and it seems like a good bet. Anyone got any ideas?
I'm on WM6, a modified version of vp3G's rom 2.0.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
First Choice -> TomTom : TomTom ties to your device for licensing
Second Choice -> IGuidance : v3 doesn't tie to the device, but v4 due out soon will also be like TomTom from what I hear in terms of licensing
Best place to get GPS stuff -> www.semsons.com
tomtom is my choice
I hAVE TOMTOM Navigator 6 on my 8525 using the bt-359 gps reciever from cingular. It is working wonderful . Also have the option of having Mr. T or Autin Powers or Ozzy to direct me. Colors and size of road images are very clearly read.
I use iGuidance and it works very well for me...
Thank you very much for your suggestions. However, How do i know if my Holux GPSlim 240 will be able to use TOMTOM? Tomtom website says it has to be Nav5 capable. I just sent an email to tomtom asking them if my device would be compatible with their software. Awaiting their reply.
What's the latest version of tomtom?
I use iGO 2006 everyday with Holux GPSlim 236 and nothing can't stop me
Google Mobile Maps
I use Google Mobile Maps, works almost as good as Streets and Trips but it does include all of the US, downside is that you need an active internet connection, Edge seems to work just fine as long as you are not in BFE...
http://www.google.com/gmm from your phone should point you to the download.
I use IGuidance iNav 3 - it works great the San Francisco Bay Area. Voice prompts work fine in WM5, but a little slow in WM6 - but it still works. The maps are wonderfully up to date for the area.
really depends on where you are.
Mapkings are excellent for Asian Maps especially thailand, Malaysia West and East and Singapore.
Tom Tom has the best maps for Australia (Well thats IMHO)
Garmin is ugly 2D looking but is pretty well defined and has alot of POIs that is not found in MapKing and TomTom and is meant for power users because it can do lotsa more than what it says.
Well, you have a dopod 838Pro. Have all 3 GPS installed. I have. And its good because if 1 map doesnt pinpoint the bagger, i still have two more to hunt it down
Happy GPS-ing.
iGO 2006
I-GO 2006
I had them all > TomTom5, TomTom6 iGuidance 3.0 , 3.1 Navigon 5
Mio v3 which is i-go2006.
I would recomend i-go 2006 , make sure you have maps v2007.01 for USA.
I'm a big fan of TomTom. It has helped me many times and I trust it's directions

I´ve got the Holux GPSslim 240 and tomtom 6.0.3 and it works just fine...
iGO 2006 Plus is among the best available in terms of compatibility to any device/OS/screen resolution.
It's security system (aka licensing) is the friendliest out there and bound to the SD, meaning ultimate transparency to the device ID or upgrade OS, so one can use same SD in several devices (not at same time).. very smart !
Check for latest version of NAM maps.
where can i get the whole maps of thailand !
thanks in advance !
hi
Ive been using Mio v3 for the last few weeks and found it very reliable BUT I,ve just changed to TomTom and already i think it just pips it to the post.
regards JPW
been using iG4. it has safely taken me to a 12hr trip to NJ and back home. only thing is it has issues.
i have also used iGO MY WAY PLUS 2006 and its GUI blows iG4's away..
only thing keeping me from being loyal to iGO is it does not have the TTS feature and it does not tell you which side your destination is..

Satellite Navigation on HTC Desire?

My first android phone. Moving from an Iphone 3g can anyone point me to a good satnav app for android? Tomtom doesn't have an app for android...
Also is Google Navigation available for the UK now? and will it work on the handset?
Co-Pilot is probably the best option currently available - not badly priced either.
Co-pilot all the way - had it on my HTC HD2.. Was fantastic, the Android version is identical.
Someone has tried Igo MyWay ?
I was using Igo8 under winmo and I would like to know if it's approximatively the same?
Been using CoPilot on G1 since its release... Very good satnav and with the Desires processor the slight lag you can get with CoPilot should be a thing of the past...
I've always used TomTom. The only thing I've noticed about Co-Pilot is the lack of a qwerty keyboard option.
Co-pilot is not a standalone application, isn't it?

What do you mean by stand-alone application? You can buy it separately and install it on to mobile phone, just like TomTom and others.
I am currently using iGo MyWay on a PNA with WinMo CE.
I must say I think it is the best navigation software I've ever used. (I've used TomTom, and Garmin before)... but of course this is just my subjective opinion...

I would say the maps are on the phone and the app doesn't need data connection to work So yes, just like TomTom.
Sygic has a very TomTom like interface, great maps, and has an Android platform as well as WM6.5.
The very kind people at CoPilot sent me a download to allow me to switch my CoPilot 8 from WM6.5 to Android - for free. I thought what was great customer relations, so one up for CoPilot!
Sygic is also cross-platform so the version I was using on my HD2 should work on my new Desire. Supposed to be easy to reactivate as it will be used on the same MicroSD card.

Oh, thats a shame, ill try it on tuesday when I get mine
I am also torn between Co-Pilot vs Sygic ... Which one is better, though choice.
For me, price does not really matter. What I want:
- Reliability
- The fastest one to get satellite LOCK
- Updated maps quite often (not necessarily the latest one, but they did update the maps)
I think we can have Co-Pilot trial version ... but unfortunately there is no Sygic in the Market, and I am not sure if we can request trial version.
CoPilot... Now tried and tested on Desire
Just had a play with CoPilot on my Desire and it works like a dream (not as in G1 dream, as in well)... smooth, fast and found no bugs so far...

What version are you using?
Has any body used copilot from the market place on an HTC Desire?
The version I tried before on my hero was rubbish and so I was waiting for TomTom. Now although I would still rather have TomTom I need a satnav and so am happy to pay for a proper copy of copilot but thought I'd check it works on my new Desire but it doesn't. I don't want to waste money so can anybody confirm the copilot UK version on marketplace does work on the new HTC Desire (preferably T-Mobile version to be sure).
Also anybody tried SYGIC (UK version) on the HTC desire. Many Thanks.

Similar reason why I wanted to know the version. There is another post here saying that it does work. Not a bad price.

Navigon on wildfire ?

Hi,
I just got navigon, but I am still thinking if I should get htc wildfire.
I first want to know if navigon or another good navigation software (tomtom, navigon,...) based on sattelites and not agps is working on the wildfire.
I currently have a touch diamond 2 with tomtom installed.
Me switching to wildfire (android) will depend on if there is a working navigation software for it.
Thanks in advance.

navigon works great in Russia
Navigon works great in my wildfire.
I live in Greece.
Great app.
You should try it.
I got a wildfire a few weeks ago.
I am using navigon, works great.
But does anybody know a good navigation software, you can use to navigate to different countries. I got navigon with all maps of Europe.
But I can't navigate between countries, I have to navigate to the border and then start a new map of the new country and start navigon again with new route.
sygic
Hi. Try Sygic Mobile maps 10. It works for me.
Sygic works great on my Wildfire
Does any GPS navigation app that works on Wilfire support Romania`s map?
Like mentioned try Sygic...the Europe version is including Romania and speedcams....
Sygic is a TomTom look-a-like. Though Sygic is less good (at least I think it is and I use TomTom aswell) it comes close and offers now 2010.07 maps of Navteq.
/Thank you for the reply, I haven`t bought the phone now, I can`t test it... I was just trying to get a feel of things.
Can't run Sygic Mobile maps 10 on my Wildfire after software update 1.25.405.1 installed. Before this worked great, now crashes after 10sec from start. Any advice?
have u tired uninstalling and installing it back again?
sygic is the best..i used it on iphone and now on wildfire and works great
I have tryed everything. Nothing helps me. Firmware 1.25.405.1 and rooted.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
works fine on my wildpuzzle7.1
for me the best navigation is Sygic because it has the most detailed view of streets and places.I can find every adress.

Garmin GPS

Hi,
I'm using HTC Desire HD, and I used to use Garmin for gps service in the car.
I really need Garmin Navigation!
In the Andriod phone, I need to buy the GPS navigation service,
First of all, do anyone have the code for buildin HTC GPS code?
BTW, I really need Garmin for Andriod.
Please help
Unfortunately my friend Mui9 we will not see Android version of Garmin any time soon. Although there is an Android version, derived from the partnership between Garmin and Asus, the sw version is tightly locked for these specific Asus devices. And due to this partnership, Garmin is "prisoned" not to sell for other Android phone manufacturers.
Garmin currently only supports BlackBerries, and now iPhone with their new app. Users with Symbian and WM devices can also use old Garmin versions for their phones (unsupported though).
Some popular navigation software for Android (which one is best actually depends on where you live):
1) Navigon
2) Sygic
3) Google Navigation
4) NDrive
5) CoPilot Live
To conclude, I too await for Garmin on my DHD! I believe it is by far the best Nav software out there. I hope Garmin will hear our prayers .

I have been using CoPilot Live v8.2 on my DHD for a while now, i find it good

[Q]the Best navigation for Desire HD

What navigation is the best for Desire HD?
I have IGO8 on my HD2 and i could not ask for a better navigation, i simply LOVE it! tried IGO for Android on my Desire HD, and i almost fell off my chair. WTF is that? not even close to the Windows version
So, what navi is most simular to IGO8 on Desire HD?
I use Sygic Aura
I have just downloaded Sygic Aura, and it looks very nice.
but where can i find the map version? and i dont see any speedcams on the map. is it using fresh maps?
Anyone else knows of a good navi, let me know
I'm afraid I don't know IGO8, so can't compare other apps to it. But when I got my DHD 3 months ago, I tried all the sat nav paid apps available on the market at the time. (This was back when you could try for 24 hours.) I also read all the online reviews I could find.
In the end, for me, the choice boiled down to CoPilot and Navigon MobileNavigator. I preferred Navigon - the display was cleaner and easier to read, and it seemed to calculate better routes. CoPilot had more options, but they were options I didn't really need. CoPilot was also cheaper.
However Navigon didn't work well with my BlueAnt S4 bluetooth handsfree car speakerhone. The voice came out of both the phone and the handsfree at the same time. I wrote to Navigon about it, but they said that they couldn't support all different bluetooth devices. So I went with CoPilot, and I've been reasonably happy with it.
However a few weeks later the developer of an app call CarUI fixed the Navigon bluetooth problem - if you used CarUI to start Navigon, the sound only came out of the handsfree speaker. Don't know why Navigon couldn't do the same thing (unless they have by now).
CoPilot is fine, and I only really use sat nav from time to time, so it's probably a good thing that I chose the cheaper option. But I really did like the look of Navigon, it's work checking out.
Hope that helps.

I know what you mean - the Adroid version of iGO is awful - jerky and those clunky sounds .
I've just been using HTC's Premium Navigator with downloaded maps. Although it said it would be a 30 day trial it's still going strong at twice that - looks like my licence is good until June!
For my needs, it's smooth and accurate enough.

Does that work okay for UK postcodes now? I tried it in November, but found the postcode search wasn't very good - it only had a partial list of postcodes - my own road wasn't in it.
i have:
Sygic 10
NDrive
IGO
Sygic Aura
Navigon
i thought i try all them out and i like Sygic 10 the best so far
Thanks guys! i'll check out Navigon and CoPilot.

Very interesting reading, thanks! I was relieved to see people saying similar things to my findings - Navigon comes out well for routes, and Contacts integration (I forgot to mention that above), but the interface could be improved (although I liked that it was clean and uncluttered). I really would have stuck with it if it wasn't for the BlueAnt handsfree problem.
CoPilot's interface is cluttered and it's routes aren't as good. I think they may have added Contacts integration now, I'll check next time I'm using it.
I don't think iGO was available when I was testing. I did try Sygic, but didn't get on well with it, I don't remember the details now. Of course testing for 24 hours isn't very easy, I think I only tested each one on the drive to work and back.
I only use sat nav occasionally, so CoPilot is good enough for me for now, but if Navigon ever fix the bluetooth issue I had with my handsfree, or if I had to rely on it on a daily basis, I'd possibly switch back.
I found TomTom on my iPhone was pretty good - better than my old Garmin satnav. It's a shame TomTom don't make an android app.
For the moment i'm using iGO and Navigon on my Desire HD
Navigon Mobile Navigator v3.5.3
But is Q1.2010 the newest maps for navigon? its seems outdated as it not even showing a roundabout and a road that was build over a year ago where i live. my iGO maps, which are 2010.09 is showing this. i have seen Q4.2010 maps for navigon an another forum, but for MN V7.
why is 3.5.3 stuck with outdated maps?
EDIT: Navigon freshmap says Q3, but but my phone says Q1. it still misses that roundabout and that road.
Navigation
Hi, i'm using Navigon 3.5, gives you traffic and alternative routes. Zip code and Poi's(also grapic) navigation.
As a former Tomtom user i'm quite happy.
Cheers,
Jim
CO-Pilot is working fine for me so far. Been around most of europe, never failed on me once. A good buy even though a little expensive.
Getting my DHD soon, but for now I have Co-Pilot on my Streak.
I have always had TomTom on my many Windows Mobile devices, and I loved it. On the move to Android however I had to leave TomTom behind for Co-Pilot which isn't at all as good unfortunately, but it does the job well.
The maps and program for Co-Pilot is widely available for free if you know where to look.
could i ask whats wrong with the google navigation thats free? not in a rude way just wondering the difference and why people dont use it

lets start with the bad things...
- no offline navigation
- unlimited dataplan useful
- no data connection with active phonecalls
- problems (of course) with lost data connection
- not very accurate when you got big crossings/streets with several lanes to take. Other software offer you some kind of assistance what lane to take
good things...
+ free! (except for data costs)
+ nice extras like sat pics
+ very good working with all google search results (POI always up to date/web)
+ traffic information always very accurate (at least in my area Frankfurt/Germany)
why do i use google?
- i got unlimited dataplan
- maps with actual versions are saved to some maps puffer. usually phone calls are not a problem
- coz its free and no matter what I search, I find it on google
My last phone was HTC HD2 with Tomtom it was just perfect!!
But Know i have the Desire Hd the things i need to know!! and i think i what to use the Copilot but is it also for Offline Use ??
And if i download it from internet do i have to look for a some kind of version!!
Same as by the HD2 ??
Ps. why does nobody have screenshort or a tut.movie that would be nice!!
