Bluetooth Headset for Phonecalls and Music Listening - General Accessories

I am doing some nice commute at the moment (170 mile round trip) every other day and have loaded some podcasts onto my nice Touch HD phone. At the moment I have one 3.5mm jacked headphone bud in one ear to the listen to them with the bluetooth earpiece in the other for the phonecalls I get.
The HD will stop the music when a call comes in on the headphone side but I would like to get a BT solution to listen to the podcasts and still answer the phone and talk without having wires everywhere!
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Looks like I am being a div! I couldn't see anything on the SD9 site which mentioned a microphone!
So, any recommendations for bluetooth headsets!!
Regards

Most bluetooth "stereo" headset can function with both headset probile and music profile.
I myself is using iTech Clip Radio. I have it connected using music profile for listening to stereo music most of the time. When call comes in, it will switch to headset mode automatically and ring in the earpieces. You can answer call by pressing a button on the clip.
The good thing about this and why it is popular because its earpieces can be disconnect from the clip. You can replace it with any 3.5mm standard earpiece. The mic is built-in to the clip.
The bad, it is not completely wire-less as Motorola HS820. You still need wire from the clip to the earpiece. The included earpiece has shorter cable, but still annoying sometimes.
Not sure if it is availble in your region. iTech bluetooth stereo headset is very popular in South East Asia region.

I've recently got a Tritton AX BlueStream:
http://www.trittontechnologies.com/products/TRIBH102.html
It's similar to the iTech clip in functionality, but the main reason I went for it is that it charges over mini-USB so you only need to carry one charger cable...
It's also £20 off here: http://www.cooleststuff.co.uk/WsProduct.asp?sessid=160913654720&CWDCSID=3770&BPID=4602

BT STEREO is GREAT .. but newer ROMs lock it to WMP
I have the i-tech r35 clip and love it. What is nice is that is has PREV Play/Spot and REV D-pad. With Tcpmp these can be programed. I don't go backwards so I set the "prev" key to skip 10 seconds... that way I can speed through the commercials and anouncements of the podcasts.
Unfortunately since I flashed a newer ROM, anythime I press any button on the CLIP the Audiomanager is launched. I want to use COREplayer. Anyone know how to disable AudioManager form automatically coming up? Thanks!!

I propose You the set Bluetooth sony ericsson DS-220. You have the possibility of connecting to him any receivers. The very good solution.

Try Motorola HT820. I use it on my Wizard and have't noticed any problem.

I use the sony DRBT21G. they include a built in battery have a microphone. links very well with windows mobile with a audio players and with the phone software. it rings through the headphones also. they are extremely comfortable. tbh I think they are a perfect solution. my favourite gadget when it comes to my diamond. well apart from the diamond itself.

Jaybird JB-200
I just posted this http://www.jaybirdgear.com/ in another thread and same as I said there just havent been able to suck up and lay out the cash yet. However, just about every review of them says they fit the bill very nicely.

Bluetooh would be the best feature for this particular reason....yay!

maybe you should try out the Plantronics Pulsar (590A or 590E)
its a stereo headset using either bluetooth or a 3,5mm plug. but using a cable you can only listen to music...
the 590A comes with a small bluetooth sending unit so use with every mp3 player with a 3,5mm port
i'm using mine with my htc kaiser on the go, battery lasts for about 12 hours. theres also a charging cable for usb ports, a cradle, a wall plug and a carrying case with included.
The soundquality is very very good in stereo mode, if you receive a call, it stops the music and switches the bluetooth profile to handsfree device.
You can controll your music player on your touch hd and also activate voice dial etc.
it's even better to use it at home with the pc and skype best combination

Headset for audio and making calls

What are people's opinions on BT (or indeed non-BT) headsets for the Universal?
Specific functions I'm looking for are:
Making/receiving calls (using the voice-calling thingy)
Playing music (and forward/back/etc functions)
I've tried the Bluetake 420EX but it keeps losing the BT pairing.
The Plantronics Pulsar 590A looks good...
What else have people tried that would work sufficiently with the Universal?
Cheers,
Ferg.

I bought these today:

Initial impression: Build quality is good, fits well on my ears, uses the same charger as the HTC (mini-USB... so I only need to bring one charger !)
Pretty good so far.
It's charging now...
I'll write up a full review soon !
I'm very curious about how these work out for you.
Did you have to install the A2DP profile?
I'm very curious about how these work out for you.
Did you have to install the A2DP profile?
I don't know yet...
Isn't the A2DP not yet available for Jasjar ?
If it is, someone tell me about it so I can test it !
Thnaks inkaris, only most of these things don;t have a dongle or a microphone so wouldn't be much good for the Universal!
A2DP isn;t out for the HTC machines yet but apparently it might be coming soon... or something.
So the Sonorix thing comes with the 3.5" dongle? That might be worth a try then. Cheers.
F.
No dongle, comes with a USB bluetooth, charging cable, the headphones, and a few other things.
It charges through USB which is great since I can bring one charging cable with me instead of two.
However, I tested it with my Jasjar today, and even though I have it paired with the Headset profile, I can't get Media Player to send music to it !
Help !!!
That's kind of what I was getting at Ikaris... the Jasjar has no compatible BT profiles. A2DP is what it needs to send stereo music to the headphones, which is why the JJ needs one with a dongle to plug into the 3.5" socket.
Just have to wait for the Plantronics Pulsar 590A to come out end of this month (or Orange to come up with a new ROM, which will probably be a loooong wait)

Hey, I'm find with mono for now !
I just don't see why I can't get Media Player to work with Headset...
The phone works fine with HandsFree for phone calls...
and I've used HeatSet on my laptop to stream music through Bluetooth.
On other Pocket PCs, where do you set where Media Player will send its signal ? (i.e. speakers, bluetooth headset, bluetooth A2DP, etc...)
Thanks !

better P3300 headset?

when i bought my P3300 i realized inmediately that the headset kinda sucks. for two reasons:
1) the volume is not the PDA volume controller, it's just a controller for the headset
2) i still haven't found a software that is able to link to the headset button
i didn't care too much till now. but now i use the the P3300 for video/mp3 more and mroe every day... and the fact i can't link any program to the headset button, just to be able to do a "skip track" is really bad. and the volume controller is very bad too.
so, is there any other, better headset out there? wired or bluetooth, doesn't matter as long as it does what i need.
I'm using a Motorola HT820 Bluetooth Headset, it's one of the bigger headsets but it has volume buttons AND buttons for skipping tracks. Those buttons only seem to work in Windows Media Player. They might work in other players if you find out what you have to change in the software.
I paid 20 Euros for it, for that price it's quite ok, the microphone is loud enough for office environment. It can be uncomfortable if you wear it longer than 30 minutes or if you haven't found the perfect spot. Unfortunately my P3300 has a very short Bluetooth range, I can't go more than 5 meters (15 feet) away from my phone. I have a phone on my desk that can connect to bluetooth headsets that has twice the range even through walls.
Logitech and HP also have phone's that have those skip buttons you are looking for, they usually only work with WM Player. The Logitech Headset might be an alternative, the Ipaq version doesn't have a microphone I think. If you don't like a plastic neckstrap you could buy the headset from Samsung they only use a cable. All the headsets I was talking about are those bulky ones you probably don't wanna wear outside, at least I don't. I tested the Moto headset only indoors.
thx for that info. i am considering different stuff i've seen so far, a few wired ones too.
what you say about the buttons only working in WM player bother me a little... and also how much the p3300 battery drain is, with bluetooth on all the time.
when i watch videos, i don't care about the buttons much, as i have the phone in my hand i can use the phone buttons. but when it comes to mp3 playing, the phone is in my pocket and i really need those buttons. and WM player is not precisely my favourite for mp3 playing, if you know what i mean.
ofc i could test on other applications like mortplayer if they are able to bind that buttons you mentioned.
for example this one calls my attention:
http://www.expansys.com/htc/p_htc_item.aspx?i=150193
but i wonder with which application those buttons (volume, play pause) work, apart WM player.
I don't know why you are talking about battery drain, I can listen to music over bluetooth for about least 10 hours, maybe even more, didn't test more up to now.
When i use Winodws Media Player I turn off the screen, that saves a lot of power. Bluetooth consumes about 10% extra battery power, that's it. You might get a veeery long playtime by setting the clockrate to 150 or less Mhz if that is sufficient for mp3 playback.
well, i don't have any experience with the P3300 + bluetooth yet, but all my previous phones had a 25% battery drain if i forgot to turn off bluetooth after a sync.
have my battery last 72h. or 54h. (standby) DOES make a difference for me, if i can sort it by using a wired headset instead. and same applies to music listening. if i can listen to 13h. instead 10h. by using a wired headset instead a BT one, then i'll prefer that.
i'll see. as soon as i gather more info on the hardware i am looking at, i'll give it a try. and who know, i might end up getting my first BT headset ever
I can understand that 72 vs. 54 hours makes a big difference in standby times and that 13 vs 10h is not such a big difference. The two reasons I use a BT headset is that I lost my wired headset somewhere at home and that I can't listen to music while recharging.
I never liked the idea of not having a dedicated audio jack on the P3300 but I thought that I could live with it. I didn't want to buy an extra Y-cable to just to be able what others handheld can do. So my new headset is a lot bigger and can't get lost as easily.

I got a pair of Motorola H820s via Amazon and they rock. Wireless stereo audio, headset profile, AVRC controls for media player (and pocket player etc with appropriate plugins), great with voice command too, and they charge off mini USB. what's not to like for 15UKP?
only negative with using them with the artemis is that you can't use the radio with them, as the radio won't start without wired headphones so it can use the lead as an antenna. not tried just inserting a wired headset whilst retaining use of BT headset yet...

Car Stereo with Bluetooth

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has a car stereo with bluetooth capabilities. I have been looking at getting one myself. For the longest time I used a treo 650 and had an FM transmitter hooked up to the audio port so I could hear my music and GPS programs over the stereo. Since the Touch only has the mini USB out and I have yet to find a fm transmitter that uses this interface I've basically been stuck using the rear speaker on the phone.
I have seen a bunch of car stereos that are bluetooth capable. I realize that they have to be able to play streaming music via bluetooth and not just handsfree to get the full "stereo effect". My question.... Has anyone tried this out or knows anyone that has used it. Also, how would hands free actually work via the stereo?
Thanks!
Aaron
hmmm..why not just get a bluetooth receiver with a 3.5mm jack. I'm currently using the itech bluetooth clip radio and am able to output stereo music from my touch to my speakers. It also doubles as my handsfree when i'm out and about.
As you mentioned you're using an FM transmitter hooked up to the audio port of your car speakers, this would be something very similar to your existing setup and probably a lot cheaper than getting those bluetooth speakers you mentioned
I needed to replace my car stereo as it is because the display didnt work. Just figured I would upgrade and get one that had bluetooth capabilities but it would seem either no one has tried to play music through a deck with bluetooth capalities here OR that not one has read the thread. Either way I think I'll at least spend the cash and see what happens. Wost comes to worse I just bring it back
Also.. I was going for the whole LESS wires thing.. Having a bluetooth reciever with a 3.5 mm jack that goes to an fm transmitter just.. yeah thats alot of clutter. I'd like to have it where the touch is mounter to the dash (as it is now) and all I need to do is push a button on the car stereo deck and the sound is routed though there. Having the phone plugged in is one thing but then having an fm transmitter and a bluetooth reciever and what not all over the dash is just a pain in the ass I think.
im using the sony/Erikson mbr-100 bluetooth stereo receiver with 3.5 jack. works great.

Is there anything specific I should be looking for. Just.. basically that it can played streemed music and not just hands free correct? That way ALL of the audio will play through the stereo.. not just the phone calls

The magic phrase you're looking for is A2DP. That's the Bluetooth protocol for streaming music from one device to another.
I got a Parrot MK6100 for Christmas, which is a dedicated hands-free kit that plugs into the back of the OEM head unit in my '99 Audi. The MK6100 is both a hands-free for the phone and a streaming music player for the phone too. It's excellent so your proposed solution might be perfect for you if your new head unit delivers the same functionality as this Parrot.
ALL the audio from my Touch is delivered through the car's speakers, including screen taps, TomTom directions, music and so on. There are some caveats though, caused by the Touch rather than the Parrot, I think:
Although the phone functionality works perfectly (it's actually very impressive - I just get in the car and it works straight away) playing music is more complex. I have to reconnect the phone's A2DP output to the car kit before I start the HTC Audio Manager, and I have to exit the Audio Manager before shutting down the car kit, otherwise it crashes and requires a soft reset for the Touch before it'll work again. I think WMP is more reliable but it doesn't integrate into the HTC Cube or HTC Home utilities so it's not a desirable solution for me.
I recommend you test the bluetooth streaming functionality with your Touch and the head unit before you buy the head unit if you can - you might find an incompatibility.

Sorry just saw this post was updated..anyway the clip radio does have A2DP and AVRCP support. Also, there is no need to use the FM transmitter. I mentioned similar..not use existing
but yes there will be a wire going from your speakers into the 3.5mm jack of the bluetooth receiver. If you want it completely wireless, then you will need speakers that have a built in bluetooth receiver..not sure where you can get one though..

I also have a question about htc touch and my head unit Alpine IDA X001.
I'm thinking to buy the Alpine bluetooth adaptater KCE-300BT which works with the head unit i have.
With this adaptater the head unit can display your last calls and let your browse in the phonebook.
Do you think that it will work with the HTC Touch (Windows Mobile 6) I have ??
Thanks
Here are the specs of the BT adaptater of Alpine :
SECTION BLUETOOTH
Version Bluetooth Bluetooth 1,1 CERTIFIÉE
Puissance de sortie +4 dBm Max. (Power class 2)
Profil HFP (Profil mains libres)
HSP (Profil casque téléphonique)
A2DP (Profil de distribution audio avancée)
AVRCP (Profil de télécommande audio/vidéo)
I have the SONY MEX BT2500 CD MP3 CAR STEREO that I had for Christmas and fitted myself. I am really impressed with this unit and it works really well, it also works as a bluetooth hands free.

Hello there,
I have Blaupunkt Hamburg MP68 and the bluetooth on it is excelent. Both handsfree & streaming working fine.
I have bought a Blaupunkt Hamburg MP68 stereo. I am very satisfied by this unit, it is a very complex device and it provides even a built-in bluetooth car-kit.
However there is an issue that I cannot work out: I can't get the stereo to download the phonebook from my HTC HD2 phone.
Both stereo and phone support the PBAP profile (phone book access), but the I always get the message "DOWNLOAD FAILED" on the stereo.
I have noticed that the "Dev A" profile (serial port) from phone's Bluetooth menu has a configuration option named "Local COM port", which was automatically set to COM2. Among the options, there is one called "ActiveSync" (as seen in the attached screenshot). I think that this might be the solution. Can anyone confirm my theory? I can't get to the car sooner than 4 hours from now.....
May be worth posting this in the HD2 forums as well. it has a much newer os with newer features then the touch does, by some 3 years. I do realise that this thread may be related, but people in the HD2 section may be more aware with any bluetooth features specific to the phone as well.
No need to do it, but thanks for the tip. 10 minutes ago I have tested the "ActiveSync" port setting and it works fine: all phone contacts are downloaded into the car stereo.
Cheers!
Grats for doing it then

8525 through car stereo

The stereo deck in my car has a USB port that I use with my 8 gig microdrive to store music on. My question is, why not be able to plug the 8525 into it and run audio and video through the car stereo?
Does anyone know of any software that would allow that?
Wouldn't WM5torage work for that?
I use it in the car, but I get terrible noise interference when the phone is transmitting internet stuff. It's almost unusable.
I'm using an FM transmitter though. Any ideas.... sorry if I'm hijacking your post.
Chris
why not just buy one of these and one of these?
That's my method of car audio
i hacked my OEM wired headset to have a 1/8" male miniplug, and a pair of RCA connectors.. plugs right into my aftermarket headunit.
wm5storage is what you need. Makes your phone look like a flash drive. You will have to disable advanced network functionality for it to work: Settings\Connections\Usb to PC

I don't have a USB or tape deck in my car. With the FM transmitter and the tape adapter in my other car, I still get noise when playing streaming music from SelectRadio (XM,Sirius streams) & incoming calls. The noise is like when I put my phone near unshielded speakers. I had the same problem w/my wizard. Any ideas?

I remember using FM transmitters before they started becoming popular- used it for about a month and just got fed up with all the interference. Best way to go is a hard wired solutions as other posters suggested.
Most modern stereos come with an 'AUX IN'. A2DP is also becoming a feature on higher end stereos- not sure how well it streams the music though.

I use a JVC KD-BT1 headunit in my car which supports bluetooth audio. With the JVC I can sync my phone and make phone calls through the stereo and I can also play all the audio from the phone over the bluetooth as well as control Windows Media Player. It makes for a VERY convienient and easy setup to use once configured. Also the sound quality is amazing. I was surprised that I was listening to music from my phone as it sounded like I was listening to it right off of a CD.
Now that I've moved on to the AT&T Tilt/8925/Kaiser everything still works exactly the same. The headunit even pulls up my phonebook and can make calls via voice dialing or voice command built into the phone.
Sorry to sound like an ad but I really love my setup. If you have any questions I'd be glad to answer them... or even snap a pic of the install I did in my car if you'd like to see that. Now... of course this whole post won't mean much to you if you don't want to change out your factory headunit...

[Q] Recommendations: Car kit - bluetooth mic plus 3.5mm stereo

While I wait for my One X to arrive, can anyone provide some in-car advice? I'd like to do the following:
Connect audio to in-car stereo via 3.5mm socket in glove box
Control pause/play via some kind of Bluetooth or in-line remote
Wired or Bluetooth mic for calls
Use my current universal dashboard mount
I have a 2005 Mondeo which is not Bluetooth equipped. In any event, what I've heard about others' experiences streaming stereo audio over Bluetooth kind of puts me off.
Does anyone know of anything that fits the above bill? I'm not going to be initiating calls while on the move, but for incoming calls, I'd like my current music/podcast to stop playing while the call is answered, with call audio coming from the car speakers and a separate (visor-mounted?) microphone. I've read about this device in another thread, but it doesn't look ideal and isn't available yet.
I've always previously used a Bluetooth stereo headset (not great sound quality), so I'm completely green with this kind of setup. My company's usual supplier wanted me to have some awful non-stereo Parrot car kit. I think I can do better than that.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Answering my own post here - it looks like the Belkin CarAudio Connect with BlueTooth (F4U037tt) would do the job. Anyone tried one of these?
