Cook another start menu icon into rom? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development
Hey guys!
Allright i know i have posted this in the blackstone forum but it dosn't seem like i can get any help there so now iam trying here .. It might seem like iam at a haste but i want to get my rom finished and this is my last issue before its ready..
I want to replace my start menu icon with one that i have made by myself.. However i can't make this work.. If i open the Shellres.192.dll file with Reshack and navigate to Icon -> 292 and replace the icon with my own one. Save the Shellres.192.dll file and sign it with msigner.. And then finally replace the one in my SYS\Base_DPI_192\Shellres.192.dll\shellres.192.dll file with the newly modified one.. it just shows my old ordinary start menu icon.. :S
What am i doing wrong here ?

There is a dedicated thread about customizing the taskbar here on xda.
I think you need to add the file including the land code. So you need to add 0409 for English for example.
You can easely check the file on your device before cooking.

i had the same problem.
Changed the shellres file in the sys folder, but then I had the original cooked in.
I copied then my own shellres file in the OEM folder at Operator Package.
If i cook the rom, then you get the massage, thet the shellres in SYS folder gets overwritten, by the own one from the OEM folder.
I used bepes kitchen to cook my rom.
For me this works great.

Hmm i think that if i do that BuildOS will just give me an error that the file allready exists instead of overwriting ? But should i then delete the one from SYS ?

If i cook the rom, then you get the massage, thet the shellres in SYS folder gets overwritten, by the own one from the OEM folder.
I used bepes kitchen to cook my rom.
For me this works great.

And then finally replace the one in my SYS\Base_DPI_192\Shellres.192.dll\shellres.192.dll file with the newly modified one.. it just shows my old ordinary start menu icon.. :S
What am i doing wrong here ?

I've just read your message today, i don't know if it's too late for the answer or not You need to delete all Base_DPI_192\Shellres.192.dll folder (it's a module, the file inside is not really important). Then, copy your new file to Base_DPI_192 to have the new icon!

[NEW] Kaiser HTC Home v.2.0.720719 BW and Color
OEM supplied by Schaps. This version already integrated in his last ROM. Not like previous version, this version Profile Tab already work correctly. No need to do anything. I have use it for several days and I dont notice any notifications queue issue or wild vibrate at all. But I do change the following: -Installation directory change to \HTCHome instead of \Windows -To get Brightness shortcut working, the same patch as previous version applied. -The same patch applied to enable the Tab Setting through registry. Other than that Nothing. Much better version than v1.5 Color version uploaded!!!! If you are ROMcooker, download the htchome.dll for rom cooker . Install sdkcert.cab if you have not done so. There are about 100 pages of discussion about v1.5. Lets not repeat what have been discussed over there like: Clicking left most mail icon will take you to MMS, how to change music tab tolaunch HTC Audio Manager, and so on and so on. I dont plan to follow up closely on these thread as I think this version is very good already. Should there be any fix, change, etc please refer to the respective post. Enjoy

Bennec, the one you are using is v1.5.xxxx. Very earlier and uncomplete version that has been tweaked to make it reliable enough to be used. This version is a new build with the profile tab working and additional features in the contact tab thatenable you to select what number ina contact for the speed dial. Definately worthed.

Click to collapse you can, just use windiff on the SYS and OEM folders of your kitchen, the dump folder is created by processing these 2 folders, so any file dups will be in there BEFORE you run buildos.exe. add you package, then run windiff ont he SYS and OEM folders, it will find the file duplicates, and delete the ones that ARE NOT from your new package!!

When creating a rom, all files will be placed in the windows directory, if you need files in a different directory like the cab posted above you will have to use initflashfiles which just copy the files to a new folder, then you will have duplicates. I just don't want 2megs of photos in two spots.
Garphical Anomolies @schen you need to swap some of the icons for my fixed ones!! please Download this Original Icons Fix and add it to you package. 2 of the black and white icons (Music and People) dont react properly when you select them. that link fixes them!! (it is not just yours, it is a common problem with all htc home plugins!!!)

When you COOK this in obviously you would remove the version you already have in the ROM therefore you would not have the duplicates. Also if you just created an package out of the cab above you will get NO initflashfiles therefore the package will install to the windows directory!!!

schen, installed & everything working fine, except for one, am unable to use the hardware navigational pad when accessing music tab, from there u can't proceed to go up, go to ff, rw or play button. Touchscreen function (for all of the above ff, rw & play tabs) in music tab is working though. thanks anyway.

been using this for a while and saw the new version a while ago. has option of more when u go to the 4 day detail in weather. fonts seem nicer and all. looks like a good upgrade to 1.5 Bennec83 irc bro

The special dll for installing n Windows directory uploaded. Use that dll.
On the subject of weather plugin. I am not sure why is there a need for a pre-configured xml file. Anyway, you need a gui to choose the city. Why not have a gui where you could enter the data which is stored on xml file. I suppose rather than sending an entire xml line when communicating with xml service, build an xml file base on the data entered via gui.
As I understand it, the DLL was just edited using a hex editor as \HTCHome and \Windows has the same number of characters, it sounds like it wasn't a decompile thing or something like that. I'm not at home at the mo so I can't check but if you load the DLL up into a hex editor (winhex?) then replace all the \HTCHome text with \Windows, you should be good to go. This is just my uderstanding though of what I've read in the previous....saga Smiffy.

20924, Sys and Xip, Big bug help.
Hi all, i have complety translated, .rgu / .dsm / .bmp / dpi 96 to 192 / 0409 to 0406. from 20924. But, when i cook it, and flash my phone, it dosen't book. I can see the version, but i can't not come to wm6 startscreen. Do some1 know what it could be ? Could some1 please look at my files maybe :/? http://rapidshare.com/files/161467646/sys.rar

Search for and download a tool called G'reloc. A common issue with ported OS builds is that they fail to boot due to improperly coded/placed files. G'reloc will fix this for you. Just run it right before cooking, and then once compiled and flashed, your ROM should boot fine. *You will need to find the correct codes for G'reloc and a Diamond ROM. I have only used this tool on the Kaiser, so I cannot tell you what they are.

Yes i will try that one, will report back if it dosen't --- Edit --- I couldn't i get an I/O error 105. ? Some1 knows what this it ? -- Run-time error 105: File not open for output. This error occurs if you try to use standard input and output functions like Readln and Writeln without the Uses WinCRT; statement. To correct this error, add Uses WinCRT; to your program.
How exactly did you translate the 96.DPI files? Safe yourself the headaches and use the Diamond 1.96 as a base. That would give you all the SYS 192 dpi files you need. Are you making the ROM true 0406? Or just translating or renaming the 0409.mui files?

The problem you are facing might be (99%) because of improper XIP porting. Just for suggestion, go through my XIP porting guide (in my signature) and try again with a working 20924 XIP (if you cant find one then I'll up the xip.bin from which I ported and am using) Using original OS folder would not qualify as SYS porting If you check the SYS build no, you will see the original no and not the ported build

Start menu problems
I have encountered another problem. I made the ervius package and had the initflashes.txt. I did everything but when I start the phone, the only shortcut I can find is in the startmenu -> Programs and thats one of the places where I wanted it,but, I also want it in the startmenu and its not coming there. I think its not working because u can only put 7 items and I dont know how to remove one item and plug in my software shortcut.. HELP ME OUT!!!

Click to expand... Click to collapse You may not like it but a hard reset would be your option. There may be differences with other peoples ROM which could cause more problems than you want.

I've got stock taskbar icons cab install for both wm6.1 and wm6.5 which will revert your device back to original state i.e. the default taskbar icons saving you the hassel of not hard reseting! is this any good to you? if so I can upload here or give you download link!

All i'm trying to achieve is to get back the origional wait cursor and the start menu icon!the shellres.192.dll file i installed over the origional had those two items modified.everything else is fine just those two items i want to get back, thats why i need the origional shellres.192.dll file.

Click to collapse thanks a lot buddy i will try i hope i will manage to do it.if not at least i try my chance by the way how to segregate the rom into oem/sys? coz when i use efn's kitchen it only dumps the rom.also i tried i900 kitchen and when i segregate the rom i found some dsm. missing files. is these dsm file important?
