4GB SD cards for BlueAngel?

Hello,
I'm wondering if 4gb SD still works with our blue angel before i buy it?
I heard 2gb is working without any problem.
Thanks everyone!
Yes.
I'm using a 4GB SD card that I bought from Amazon.
thank you so much!
My Transcend 4GB card works like a charm. No tech problems whatsoever, and it's a little faster than my previous card as well (despite the speed limitations of the Blue Angel SD-reader).
But just so you know what you're getting into: as decadent as it may sound, I'm now facing a different kind of problem.
I've got about half of the card filled up with all the music I'll ever need, a TomTom map and the complete TLG (Thesaurus Linguae Graecae: every classical Greek text ever written, an invaluable research tool). Now the haunting question is, what will I do with the other half? 8)
No really, anybody got any tips? Are there any great programs out there that require a huge amount of storage space? I need to waste it on something cool or I'll explode!!!
:? I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Heidegger meant by succumbing to the inane obligations of new technological possibilities instead of using them as a means to an end... I wonder if a little "Gelassenheit" wouldn't be out of place here. So before you buy that huge sd card, ask yourself if you're ready to face the unfathomable existential void of about 2 gigs of leftover free storage!
Nah, just kidding, 4GB rules. Just buy it and don't worry about compatibility. Sorry about the rant. I've had too much coffee.

Now that might be a good idea.
A 1GB card would probably do me for everyday use, but I got a 4GB card to be used in my PDA and also as a USB drive by using it with card reader that is similar proportions to a USB drive - SanDisk MobileMate SD+ - fits on a keychain though I have to use an elastic band to stop the cap falling off. I need this so I can bring work home.
For everyday use I suppose I can fill it up with music so my PDA is more like an iPod. But I really need a large card when travelling - maps, scanned guide books and videos, music, podcasts to make the journey go quicker.
PDA as USB drive
Browsing through the forums, someone suggested using Card Export with a USB sync cable:
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
to turn your PDA into a USB mass storage device - cool idea. Just downloaded a trial but transferring files is quite slow. Below is a quick test:
Card Export II with PPCTechs Lil' Sync Pro: 0.56MB/sec
SanDisk MobileMate SD+ Card Reader: 2.93MB/sec
It's probably because the "card reader" in the PDA is slow; I wonder if the BlueAngel supports USB 2.
Mini SD + Adapter + What to do with all the space
I've just (today) got a mini SD (2G) with SD Adapter.
The 1GB card was nearly full. (13Mb remains)
But the effect of the 2Gb... weird... or what?
Windoze XP Pro (SP2) declines to copy anything on to this SD + Adapter past the 1GB mark...
BUT...
BUT...
Microshaft's ActiveSync will??!!??
Mind you, it creates a funny looking directory list with loads of phantom file folders. But on the XDA, the files are all there, and beyond the 1Gb boundary, and they are accessible.
The card reader is one of those 50-in-1 usb jobs, with three extra USBs on the end.
Windoze File Explorer says .99Gb Used 913Mb left now.
I've yet to try this 2Gb + Adapter in my PCMCIA card adapter for my old Jornadas.
XDA now says 1019.46 in use with 913.63 free as well after copying my old 1Gb card and some 30Mb of docs I needed.
I hooked in here again to see if there was a simple fix for Windoze. Or indeed for our XDAs.
Even tried copying a folder full of txt, Doc, and PDF over to the card. When it failed on some nonsensical bad file error... which we know is wrong as the file is quite accessible on the PC where it was being copied from... we tried copying the remainder to another folder. It had a go at this and even put the copying screen with the files flying across... but they never went over and it soon failed on another error.
Getting back to your space problem... one of the things I use space on the XDA SD for now, aside from music mp3s, is audio books. I'd forgotten just how good it is to have someone read to you. Especially when it's someone like Tony Robinson reading Terry Pratchett.
Stick the XDA in top pocket, bins on, head back, and let the story take you.
We use a site which specifically caters for e-books and Audio now. I used to get them from the other more general download link sites, but this one is a bit specialised. It's called Wordhaven.
If you want a pointer to it, then please LMK.
After copying over an audio book I wanted to listen to (The Night of The Triffids, Unabridged 300 odd Meg) the XDA Settings/Memory/Storage Card reading became 1393.75 In Use, on 539.34 remains so I guess from one point of view... the XDA... it is working.
Files check out and play too.
It's just Windoze doesn't want to co-operate really with the file copying, but it still reads 1.36Gb on 539Mb remains in File Explorer.
Now why is that?
I was deliberately steered away from 4Gb for the XDA. After reading some of the accounts here I'm not too sorry we went for the 2Gb.
Does the fact that all cards we have seem to be formatted for FAT (presumably the ancient egyptian version) rather than FAT32, have anything to do with it... and why is NTFS not an option offered in Windoze format for cards??

This is very interesting since there is a new SD standard out there called SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity). From what I've been reading this standard support 4GB up to 32GB, and the old SD standard only supports up to 2GB.
What's more interesting the 4GB cards you guys are possibly referring to (?) are somewhere in between these two standards because it's too big for the regular SD standard but it's not SDHC. It's cool it still works though.
So is the 4GB card that you're talking about SDHC or "regular" SD?
They're regular SD cards not the HCSD ones, however technically since they exceed the 2GB capacity, they are no longer conforming to the SD specifications. I use the Kingmax M-Series ones without any issues.
has anyone used capacities of more than 4GB on their BA?

Two things might be happening here:
1. Your laptop might be an old one that can't read larger SD cards. Lots of older laptops won't read anything over a certain size (e.g. 1GB). When they can't read it, they often tell you that you need to reformat it, just like you saw. Some laptops have a driver update. If not, you can always buy a cheap USB SD card reader.
2. You may have bought a fake sized SD card from Ebay. There was a spate of them formatted to display a bigger size than they really were. Probably this isn't the problem, because you formatted it from your BA.
no one got some ideas for me?

SD 4GB Problem

Hello!
I've just recieved a brand new OEM SD 4GB 150x but I have a problem with it!
I tried to access it trough my laptop (Aopen 1557-G) but nothing happens.
After I insert it on SD slot, the laptop freezes for a sec or two and then on My Computer appears a icon saying SD /MMC. I try to open it and says no disk inserted!
Then, I've tried on a Mio A201 and on explorer I can't access it either (The Storage card doesnt happer).
I was wondering if there is a problem with SD (I want to use it on HTC Universal, but mine as gone to warrancy for battery replacement, so I cant test it on it).
Do you think is possible that my card reader on laptop doesnt recognize it because is 4Gb? Should I try it with a USB card reader?
Doesnt Mio A201 support 4GB SD?
I want to be sure that it's faulty before I'll send it back to USA for replacement. A month of delay more extra expenses of shipment.
Thanks for your help.
Deiota
It's quite possible that the card reader in your laptop just doesn't support that size of SD card. I'd suggest testing it in any other device you can.
Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for the 4Gb SD card? I work at CEX in Brighton, and we had a 4Gb 150x SD card in a while ago, which was up for sale for I think 90 pounds or so. (All our items are second-hand, bought from customers. I checked on the price of 512Mb cards a while back - ours were 10 quid at the time, Jessops 5 doors down was selling them for 50!)
I'm guessing you got your SD from eBay, from a dude called fastmemoryman. OEM Samsung 150x from the USA
Anyway, I've had no problems with mine, it works with both my computer's SD card readers (both USB though), my Magician (with some tweaking - a manafacturing fault of the Magician I think), my Himalaya and my Dell Axim x30. You probably will need a USB card reader, as laptop card readers are typically weak.
If it refuses to work in your Mio or Wizard, I suggest you try partitioning the card into two using something like Paragon Partition Manager, so that the card appears as two 2GB cards instead of one 4GB card (as many devices have problems handling 4GB cards).
what i usually do if the sd card is not recognized i try it on a camera and try to format it thru that, then i insert it to my pda and re-format it again with resco. i am using a 4Gb 150x Transcend card on my Uni no problems

I bought and successfully using "SD Transcend 4Gb/150x" in my device (on photo) with FAT System.
My "Epson_RX-620", included to big PC, not viewing her absolutely precisely - as you have described!
Offers to format and can not open!
Here is present only one exit - to use cards with this speed 150x -
only on elementary USB-adapters without additional drivers -
only by means of adapted drivers of System (WXP).
I just bought a PQI 4gb SD card with no problems for $70 USD, www.newegg.com has alot of selections, ranging from $60 - $80 USD.

It's a advertise of concrete shop, and it haven't nothing common with described problem.
Many shops is present in all countries, and to this sellers from another city (country!!!)
there is no sense to go - to pay for a road (or delivery) - more expensively.
I thought, that here there is no advertising...
And I bought my card of prestigious firm (made in Taiwan) -
for $-57 IN RUSSIA!!! - and what - all to go to Russia?
But if who want - welcome to Russia, please!
(not for sake of card - a simple so)
I bought the same OEM 150x samsung SD card from ebay two months ago. I started having problems with it - first my PC reader wouldnt reader it, although it did initially, and then my Universal wouldn't read it - it would freeze when i put it into the phone. I have sent it back now for a replacement.
hi you need to download new drivers for the card reader in your laptop. I had to do it to my acer found them on the HP website under texas instruments 4 in 1 reader but search through till you find the 4 gig driver.

HELP!! my 1gig storage card is maxed out at 512mb

morning/afternoon/evening to all my fellow ppc users....
i have a question that probly has a simple answer, but many hours of scouring the forums and google havent quite given me a concrete answer on this....
i recently bought a 1 gig micro sd with the adaptors for full size and mini sd (my phone uses the mini), and yet when it gets close to 512mb, it acts as tho its full.
the answers i have gotten on correcting this is to either reset my device fully again and start all over, or to attempt to reformat my sd card, which is the simpler, but i have heard that doing that sometimes makes it unreadable for ppc.
any suggestions or advice?
I've reformatted my cards lots of times and never had a problem. As long as you reformat it in FAT32 or FAT16 you shouldn't have a problem either.
One other possibility is that you have a 512MB card that's been marked/hacked to appear as a 1GB. This is a big problem on eBay as there are many sellers who do this.
i would hope not.... i bought this from a legit phone dealer and when placed in my comp it shows the space of a 1gig..... hopefully xeno's idea works.
Guys,
The bad news is that a lot of the Sandisk 1Gb MicroSD cards sold a few months ago on ebay were in fact 512Mb cards remarked as 1Gb !!! Quite a few unsuspecting dealers also got caught with stock - so your reputable dealer just may have been duped too...
First thing to try is to put the card into the SD adaptor.. Into a decent USB card reader on your PC. We use Paragon Disk Tools to actually fix / remove / repair the partition table on the memory card.. This is NOT fixed by simply formatting the card in Windows... Once your partition table is sorted, format the card as FAT16 or FAT32 (to suit).. Don't use Quick Format.
If this went well, your card is ready to go back into the PDA.. If the format hangs, then the card is either faulty or dodgey (!!)..
Good luck
Andy

well i don't know why 4gb micro SD or simple SD don't work.

[Q] Migrating to a new Micro SD Card

Hi
I'd appreciate a little advice on the best way of successfully migrating to a new Micro SD card. Currently I have a 32GB card containing nandroid backups, titanium backups, pictures, videos and various other documents.
I am planning to get a new 64GB card and will want to move everything over from my current card.
My questions are:
1) Do I need to format a new Micro SD card before transferring my files and folders to it? And if so what format i.e. FAT32?
2) Is the best way to copy the contents of my current card to my Mac and then copy them all over to my new card? And if I do this, can I be sure that all files will be copied - firstly to my Mac and then to my new card?
Many thanks in advance.
hi i recommend you the samsung pro ush1 64gb i read in some forums also here that is the best one (even sandisk ultra) for the samsung devices
64gb micro sd can not be formatted in FAT32 format only xfat unless you use a third part program
i dont see any problem if you copy your files to your mac first and then to de new microsd
i always format the new sd before use it its the best way i think
is my humble opinion
I hope I've helped you

Many thanks for your reply. I was going to buy a Sandisk card, but will have a look at the Samsung card you recommend before I do so.
Also, is it better to format the card in my Note 2, or using my Mac? I believe I can format the card in FAT32 on the Mac.
Thanks.
Just Google sandisk note 2 unmount
frankly they are the worst. .I lost 60 $ for a bad sandisk card 32 gb class 10 and I'm never buying any of their products ever again. . its not acceptable to lose data , we pay good money for storage to keep our files safe and they failed in that

I was finding out and it seems that all brands work well at first but then there are several problems with samsung devices.
I think it is because they have their own memories and not in their interest that users buy other cheaper brands
Its all about business today

sandisk ultra series "bug" with samsung devices should have been fixed allready, it was just one bad shipment of cards which had this "bug" and if you got bad luck and get one of these faulty cards sandisk will replace it free of charge.

Thanks for the advice everyone. In light of this, I think I will stay away from Sandisk and buy a Samsung card. I have some important data on my SD card and don't want to risk having it corrupted. Thanks again.
