iGo8 won't start, Skype won't install - Touch HD Themes and Apps

hi all,
been trying to run iGo8 (navigation) on my blackstone.
after the install (no error message) the program tries to start, i get the initial start page (splash screen), then it shuts down for no reson.
anyone know how to fix this?
i tried the iGo7 i have running on my ipaq (windows mobile 5) and it does the same thing...
currently running:
rom: Dutty's V2.1 extreme
radio: 1.10...
i also tried to install skype and it stated that some files are missing from the installation no matter what i tried (update: managed to install skype - simply installed the PDA version - not the smart phone one... sorry for the bother)
anyone having said problems? any idea how to fix it?
any help would be greatly appreciated...

I had the same problem. But i believe you have 2 folders, one called 2577 (or something like that) and an IGO8 folder, right?
Go into the IGO8 folder and change the name of application.dat to IGO8.exe
This can best be done by connecting your phone with you cable to your pc.
Anyway, when you changed the name of the file, then try to open that newly renamed file. Do not open it through Start > Programs > IGO8.

still need help
Tnx for the help Sevenrow, unfortunately - it didn't work...
I tried everything i can think of (after trying your suggestion), including copying the igo8.exe (after the name change) to the install folder (program files), but still - the same crash.
the only thing i can think of now is that the program isn't planned for microSD cards, i opened the sys file and saw it was addresing the program as "%SDcard%/IGO8/"
could that be it? i tried to change the file to "/Storage Card/IGO8" likr it really is - but still no good.
any ideas will be greatly appreciated (even if they have to do with the IGO 7 that i know works perfectly (just not on the blackstone)

It's a guess but do you have the newest version of .net (3.5) ??
I have no idea about igo8 but skype runs fine on my HD and the install was without problems.
I have tomtom and route66 and both work fine on the HD.

Igo8 runs perfectly on my HD, so i guess there's something wrong with your files. I can help you with it, but i don't think it's allowed here on the forums. So tell me, if you hang out in an IRC channel or something, i'll drop by and help you out.

Try to disable A-gps.

Thanks for everyone's help - still a no go...
running .net3.5 but thanks for the thought Dave.
been trying to switch back to my perfectly legal (and working) igo 7 - but nothing... i just don't get it.
will try the a-gps off next (for now i let my HTC rest a bit - it's been a long day for it).
Sevenrow - i don't really hang anywhere... tell me where you stay - and I'll visit happily.

Tomtom V4.40 and V5 Backlight Solution

If you look at the attached word document when Tomtom launches it sets the following registry keys
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\ACTimeout to &FFFFFFFF and
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\BatteryTimeout to &FFFFFFFF
when on my XDA2 they should be 300 and 600 respectively. When Tomtom exits these values are restored.
I have written a program that launches Tomtom, then after 7 seconds restores these registry values to their original values and viola the backlight is restored without the need for the user to have to adjust it manually.
Here is the code and I shall next day upload a cab file with more details and which can be installed. It is configurable and places a shortcut in your start menu.
Enjoy.
Great Job Sjubb
Now i can upgrade to WM 2005 again

Microsoft Compact Framework 2.0 (Beta2) redistrubatable
The problem I seem to have is that Microsoft Compact Framework 2.0 (Beta2) redistrubatable will not install correctly. I've tried the one sjubb uploaded I've downloaded it from microsoft. What happens is everything seems to install ok (with both versions) but then when my XDA2 resets itself nothing! No program! and in add remove programs the tick box indicates that it's not been installed. Many thanks to sjubb for his help and Buzz for the OS.

Right guys,
A lot simpler now. No need for Microsoft Compact Framework 2.0, they should run straight away now (as most PDAs have version 1 installed) as I have made it compatible with version 1.0
Just download the attached files and follow the instructions in the word document.

OpenNETCF.zip
you will need to extract it in order to put on your device.
Just one slight hiccup...
Hi SJubb, Many thanks for your effort. Yet another masterpiece in the making!!
I followed your instructions (the latest one without the Framework 2) and.
It starts tomtom fine, but the light is still disabled. I am running Magneto (clearly..).
Many thanks for your effort. Really look forward to getting it working.
Works!!!
Sorry SJubb, I take it back. Restarted, repeated install, works like a charm!! Many thanks for such a great app, now all we need is Widcomm for Windows Mobile 5 and we're set!!
You, along with the rest of the gurus are what makes owning an XDAII such a pleasure. I only wish I had the skill to contribute to this endevour.

monster what version of windows 2005 are you on?
I have someone on 1.50f experiencing problems. I myself could not get it to work properly on that version.

I have installed this, and it works. The only problem is, that everytime i run the program a dialogbox turns up saying: The maximum delay interval in order to turn the backlight on is 20 seconds. This is avoid hanging your xda2. It will be set to 7.5 seconds.
Is there a way to avoid this dialog box?
Apart from this it works perfect. Thank you for all your work.
regards
John
You need to adjust the interval as part of the shortcut. If you see the user guide it gives details.
If you don't want to do that go into file explorer, go to \windows\start menu\programs and delete the shortcut.
Then go back to the original patch file, rerun it and it will recreate the shortcut for you with a default of 7.5 seconds.
Please test and advise.
cheers
steve jubb
forgot!
Forogot to mention make sure the number you use for the interval is less than 20.
Hi
I have tried this several times now. but the dialog box still appears.
I need to tell you, taht when i press ok to the dialog box tomtom starts and backlight is turned on.
I just wantted to get rid of the dialog box.

Super Mapple v6 installation issues, japanese

I Need some help with the installation of Super Mapple v6 on my WM6 devie.
I have followed this page:
http://aimakidechi.hp.infoseek.co.jp/jasjar/0050_apps/pocket_mapple_v6.html
I have replaced the MsgStore.dll file in the windows dir.
Installed the MultiByteCab.
But I still get the same error when I run PocketMappleD6. It says: Could not be installed, choose a different location.
And I´ve tried bouth device, and sd card.
Thanx!
Uhm, I think you may be in the wrong place. Perhaps you should contact the software developer?
well, they say that it only works with -> wm2003se. But since people get it to work with WM5, I thought that WM6 also would be possible...
Is there a common way of installing wm2003 programs on wm6?
i have my PocketMappleD7 on my device WM6 OS and it is running fine.
I switched to v7, today, And it works! Tnx
Could you please to tell me where i can get Pocket Mapple V7. Im looking for it. thanks in advance
hope someone can help. i can't find too much english help on pocket mapple setup. i have v7 installed on my X01ht with original softbank rom. for some reason though, the map i have installed (osaka) has blocks and squiggles instead of kanji. is there something i'm missing or didn't install correctly? any chance that it could be the English MUI i have installed that's affecting it?
@swordfishjp - you have to purchase or order the software at any Local japanese electronics shop (ie. LAOX, etc ...)
@shunsai - verify your device Regional Settings is set to Japanese (Japan). the menu path is Start-Settings-System-Regional Settings. Do a Restart the device. and run your application again.

thanks otoro_315! that did the trick... i had my region set to US. :S oh well, i guess giving up the English/American date is a minor trade-off to be able to have a functional street map of Osaka on my keitai. thanks again!

Thanks!
I always feel like such an outsider way out here in AT&T land! Thanks for the special attention. Downloading now!
Here's where I get to show my stupidity!
All the other ROM I have flashed have come with a utility to run the process. I tried replacing a previous rar file with this one and running the utility I had, but it changed nothing. I have read all the guides, the step by steps, etc, but the info seems to be for full packetsm not how to insert a new rar. I am dense. I am uneducated, I am sorry!
Thanks Shodowmite. It's good to have someone taking care of us ATT dudes.
What is the difference with other ROM ?
Is there something specific for AT&T ?
Sorry if the question is stupid, but I don't know AT&T particularities... ;-)

ok, have you flashed hard-spl on your phone before? If not, search for it and flash it! Next, you need winrar or some other file extraction program to extract the rar file (a compressed folder) to get the files out. Then you'll find the installer files inside, you run the exe... Hope this helps.

Mainly the big thing is this includes by default the sms/mms and data/proxy settings for cingular/att's network. You can use this rom with another carrier, but you'll need to delete those settings or install you own over top of them.
It's the little things
Thanks for the patience with my idiocy. I got WinRar and am flashing now.

We all have to learn at some point, I was no better when I started long ago... Don't worry about it and just learn at your own pace... Hope you like the rom!
I've updated to Shadowmite 1.1, while this is still a "beta" if you will, it's perfectly stable and appears good. Use this one if you want the HTC Home Plugin available... I've also removed windows live and streaming media in this version:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43857196/Shadowmite_1.1_beta_0.rar.html
Thanks. Good job. Downloading.
Ive had it running for a few days now and have noticed marked improvement on battery life. My only challenge has been running out of program memory during IE sessions. I run MemMaid and clean up, then I can go again, but I'm wondering if I have something set wrong.
Hmm, not sure, but I will be releasing another version maybe tomorrow with a increased available program memory using a 4mb pagepool instead of the stock 6mb.
Slightly off topic but is there a way / application to load apps & information in one go after flashing a new rom or is installing all the cabs one by one the only way.
Thanks in advance
S
Well, dunno if it helps much, but my HTCustom app, which is in my roms has a CABS button which allows you to choose a folder and it starts all cabs in it to be installed for you... but it needs human interaction.
In other news, the rom is ready and uploading now...
Version 1.1 is posted, now with 4mb pagepool, should increase your program memory a little and make it perform a little more quickly. I think this is about perfect now, let me know!
Nice ROM, but...

Hi, A very nice looking ROM - for which... thanks!
BUT... I keep getting... "An unhandled error has occured in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell [ok]". Soon as I hit the OK, phone reboots.
Now, to help u diagnose... I have installed NOTHING on top of your ROM. Only change I made from stock is I removed your Cingular settings .cab and installed the standard HTC ones for my UK Vodaphone network. (Actually, I was getting this error BEFORE I even removed the Cingular .cab)
Only other thing I can say is, I also unchecked the BatteryStatus plugin from the Today items (as I don't like it or need it... or do I, with this ROM? Maybe I will re-enable it a while...)
That's all. I'll try and stick with this ROM as it's the kind of thing I've been working on for myself... nice, clean and tight... but I've had no time recently to develop ROMs so it's easier for me to run with your work and let you do the head scratching!! Still, a nice effort so far - thanks again!
Moz.
Weird, I've never seen that error. I hate to say it, but could you start with the rom freshly flashed and tell me anything I can do to cause this to occur? Or is it random? I do run the battery status plugin on mine (very useful info, especially the current draw) but I've just removed it to see if I can get the error.
Let me know if you have any procedure I can try to get this error.
Also, you removed the cing.cab and then installed yours and ran it? That should be fine as the only cingular branding is that cab being ran after the welcome.
Fixed it... I think!
Ok, so it seems to be your 1.51 version of the HTC X-Button task manager. I always set the "End progs by tapping X" (not the default tap-and-hold option..) The previously mentioned error only ever happens when I'm tapping X to close down something or other... So, I installed my own .cab of this app (v1.5 build 29196) and all is now fine!
I'll probably do a fresh flash of your Rom tomorrow (its 2am now here) just to be sure, but I think I'm right in saying that your implementation of the x-button app in rom does not give the x-button icon in /start/settings/system... (i now have this by virtue of my reinstalling the app...) I think this icon *is* needed because if you choose to turn off the x-button "shortcut" thingy in the today screen there would otherwise be no way to get back to the x-button option settings.
Hope this helps...
Moz.
a-ha, I got the error now myself, but only if set to close app on clicking the X and furthermore then closing a system app that is running from shell32.exe. For some reason my entries of immune apps aren't being taken as immune. I'll look into this. Good catch!
The program however is in settings, system and is listed as task manager...
Ok, here is the fix, just install this cab (reg entries only) and it'll be working after the next soft reset... I'll figure out why this didn't work from the main hive before the next release.

Too dumb to install new user inteface on WM5 PDA ?

Hi out there,
i am totally new to this topic... i recently got an elder PDA, an iPaq hx2790 with WM5, german localization.
After being a liitle convenient in handling the device and the basics of installing additional programs to it, i had the wish to make the userinterface look a little more "nicer" or at least more usable ;-) I googled around and found some good-looking aspirants for my project. I downloaded Quick-Menu 2.8, GSMART, Ifonz2, Pointui... and i tried to install them, one after the other. The result ? Nothing.
Quick-Menu had in most menu-items only squares instead if characters (seems to be a common error in non english devices)
GSMART only added one push-button, when pressing it, nothing happened but the cross to cancel programs / leave screens in the upper right corner disappeared and the device was unbelieveable slow from now on (also reported by other users on http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-gsmart-today-plugin.html)
ifonz2 could be installed, but when i tried to start it manually (because my start screen looked like before) it *****ed around that .Net would be missing, although i installed the version adviced (3.5) in the readme by the author of the prog
Pointui could also be installed, but when i tried to start it manually it also told me that there would be missing a security certificate or some other thing would be missing.
Am i too silly or am i missing some special point ? How should these progs be started after SUCCESSFUL installation ? Do i even have to start them or shouldnt they rather start themselves ?
I am really at a point in time where i am willing to live with this odd WM5 Screen...
any help appreciated ;-).
Also suggestions for WM5-Interface replacements that will do what they propose to do .....
best regards
Freddy
You can still get PointUI to work. It's designed to be installed on pocket pc phones and looks for a couple dll files that are only found in phone edition roms. As far as I know, it looks for sms.dll and phone.dll (it might be different for german roms, I only have experience installing it on english roms). You can find these on the internet somewhere.
As for the others, I really have never tried them. Where did you download the .net installation program (exe or cab)? If you didn't, try downloading the versions directly from Microsoft's site (might take some searching). Another option to try is SPB Mobile Shell (you can get a trial version). Does this help?
thanx for your help.....
Steve,
thank you vey much for your help...
I downloaded sms.dll and phone.dll but GSmarts behaviour did nor change...
The first .net 3.5 was downloaded from softonic with a link provided from the author of iFonz... this one didnt work, it was only the small CAB-File. Then i downloaded the big one it directly from microsoft and it installed it right away on my PDA. iFonz then could be started and configured, but it didnt cope with my screen size and shutdown afer a short while (sigh!)
So i guess i finally will give the iPhone simulating apps a last chance... if this doesnt work, i keep my MW5 as it is ;-(
Thanx alot Steve
Freddy

Seleron,
Are you not able to attatch the phone to any netowrk? And how do you rollback after testing this out?
I have a 552W and I am willing to test. But I would like to know the rollback procedure since I cant afford to be in a bricked-state even for a day
Don't worry. These network settings is a program from Asus. It's not necessary to use it. It's only to configure settings in your phone to be able to connect to internet. You can use the same tool from Microsoft (settings, connections, connections and "automatically configure connection").
These ROM is stable right now and have only few really minor bugs. The rollback procedure is easy - just download from Asus your old ROM and after connecting your phone to the computer run this program which you downloaded.
hdubli,
these cab solved the problem - install.OBM.NetworkSetting.CAB
Thanks

Start to install again.
Let the program check your system.
When the error appears look in the folder where the firmware is.
You will find a file named tmp_rom.abi.
Copy the file in other place and rename it with the name of firmware and let the extension .abi.
Cancel the current installation.
Copy the new GM2_.....abi file on the SD card. Put the SDcard in the phone, start the phone with button down+soft reset ...the boot loader will start and install your firmware automatically.
The version/language verifying procedure is done only if you start with EXE type firmware file. With abi file the only checking is for correct name, it should start with GM2...
I already try it with no luck. While boot my asus didn't see abi file. I used name:
GM2_V5.12.0S.PLK00.00_M4.6.5.P5_V2.9.0 POL00_20081230_3050.00.abi and file was extracted from GM2_V5.12.0S.PLK00.00_M4.6.5.P5_V2.9.0 POL00_20081230_3050.00.exe I tryed also other names but it didn't work.
I have:
Device OS Ver: 0.0
Device ExtROM ID: none
Finding file: GM2 *.ABI
File not found!

Mate,
As someone has suggested, could we do without those useless things like Ez**(zip/music/photo) and other things you can think of.
Another suggestion :
The right soft-key links to Comm. Manager, but opens up the Alarms menu. Please do take care of that.
