NOOB's Kitchen - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi eveyrone.
Background: I have been playing with the new Manilla from XBMod, but in doing so I have had to change my ROM. Previously was on a DUtty v4 ROM which I loved as it was a simple clean and fast ROM.
Now compared to Dutty's all other so far are Bloated and/or slugish (even before I put the manilla2 on).
Anyway I decided to see what it takes to make my own. I looked into it and found a nice simple basic tutorial with video here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413782
Now this is really basic. I do need to learn a bit but I need some help in finding some information. Little things like how to edit the registry or how to change the boot image. Also need to find all the updated HTC apps, and a list of what HTC apps are available and/or ported.
Before someone tells me to use search or "google is your friend" I know that.
I can find out what each package does before I remove them and such. I can also find out how to do allot of these things too, but if you actually use the search also then you will find nearly everything is based on modifying an already installed ROM and not doing it in the Kitchen.
On top of all this I doubt I am the only person looking for a clean fast ROM so I will be releasing this to everyone. I would appreciate any suggestions for what to include and what registry edits to do. And would really appreciate a master chef coming by and helping a new apprentice chef.
Much appreciated for anyones help. (Remember I havn't asked for others to do it, I am asking for some help to learn it.) Lets just hope I don't burn anything...... .

Nothing?
No one wants a Simple Light Upto date ROM??

Kinda funny isn't it.
If I just waited around and asked who had what and all that, I would be flamed to a crisp and get told to read and use search. Just so you know I just used search for "OEM HTC" and got NOTHING.
I have been using the forums for about 6 months now and now I have decided to put my little bit of effort in, no one is interested in helping...
I always say that I only help those whom help themselves. I have and am currently helping myself, but I do need a little hand mainly to point me in the right direction.

Anyone?
Doesn't anyone want a simple ROM that is mearly a set of performance tweaks and updated OS and Updated Default HTC Apps?

Here's you answer - download one of teh full kitchens available (like Sulliers or Mondilv) and make it yourself.
Other way - download latest OEM rom (there's thread for that), ervius kitchen, and cut away to your liking - you will have your "latest light rom".
This is exactly what it is about. Either be ready and donate to the chefs who do such things (cook for demand for payment) or get behind the keyboard and start cooking. it's not that difficult...
This is how I started - got the kitchen, and step by step I go forward. I can't call myself a cook - I only know how to tweak a bit little things, but I'm learning. I suggest you start too
If you are searching for "clean, fast ROM" look no further than Mondilv's kitchen - probably the fastest Rom available now (if we are to trust Pietrucci's benchmarks, and I see no reason why not). Since it;s a kitchen you can do whatever you want to it. And if you are asking "how to edit registry" then maybe your searching skills aren't that good... This like the most basic thing....
Happy cooking!

Good to see people actually read.
At no point did I ask for a ROM. I do recall mentioning that I have downloaded a kitchen and am playing with it.
I did mention that I have searched and my skills in searching are perfectly fine. Considering that fact that I have found the registry information but NOT in XDA.
THe problem with XDA is that if you are to be succesfull in a search you must already know what you want to find (and therefore know the terminology to search for) which then means why search at all seeing you already know. And if you happen to find something you have to read the thread for a week to find the only single post within it that actually gives you an answer.
If you had read my first post properlly and understood it, you would realise I am after information TOO LEARN IT...... but maybe I'll take your suggestion and LEARN it instead.
It really pisses me off when people reply withou fully reading the post, and then tells me exactly what I said I am doing.
For all you know I could be a potential contributer to these threads and you have just destroyed my respect for the people on these threads. Thankyou for your lack of any real help.

Oh and one last thing, I was wrong with the last bit of my first post.
If I ask for the ROM I get flamed, If I ask for help to learn to build a ROM I get told to make a ROM or download one.
Catch 22 around here. Can't ask for help and can't get help. I wanted to build one but if this is the **** I am going to cop just cause I want to learn something and contribute, then its not worth jack ****.
And who are you to say if I have or havn't donated to other ROM Builders.

I would love to try your basic clean ROM, without all the pre installed applications. I have been looking for an up to date naked ROM, but haven't been able to find one.
Good Luck!!!

Well my intention is not a "Naked ROM" but a bare essentials one.
Just updated versions of all the apps that come with a HTC ROM and update OS Core, .NET etc.
Bare Minimum Apps.

good luck man. hope its super fast too.. and stable.

Can someone please point me to an UPDATED list of HTC OEM App Version and hopefully downloads.
I don't mind Ripped stuff, like from TouchFlo2 etc, but I want to leave out beta buggy stuff untill they are are fixed. For example I would want HTC Notifications as it seems to work well (unless I am just lucky) but I won't put in the TouchFlo3D 2 as it is still buggy and unstable.
Oh and VGA versions if possible for my Touch Diamond

Oh and were can I find a 21xxx+ version ROM that I can use?

Hmm, so I want to help, and the best you can do is smirk at my recommendations, and you just carry on:
can you point me here, can I have that or this, and oh, can it be VGA, and possibly with chocolate?
Man, I'm sorry, but there is something wrong. All the info you are looking for IS on this forum. I can't believe that you searched and didn't found. You either search the diamond forum, or use general forum search (which is google) and you just follow the links.
I don't want to belittle you nor argue with you. But just take a second and look at the way how ALL internet forums work. The first thing you do to gain credibility on any forum is to search, learn, then try to help. The last thing you do is to show up, and ask for links "on a platter" in rather demanding manner, and then criticize the answer. I just had a look on your posts and it seems that this is what you do. You repeatedly ask for ready solutions, and when people tell you to search, you are annoyed, or ask "does anybody read posts on this forum?"
I will say just this - google "netiquette" or "how to behave on internet forums".
Good luck in your search for perfect ROM for you.

And here you go not providing any form of help at all.
You say If I did search I searched the Diamond threads or used the Google search..
I have used the google one yes. And I have used the built in search searching for DIamond threads yes.
Now you imply that searching the Diamond is wrong??? I am own a Diamond so why not search the diamond threads.
This is exactly what I am talking about regarding the useless comments of "search the forums" crap I keep reading against any noob.
Instead of pointing people in the right direction you guys just simple say search.
There also seems a limit of more than 3 letter word length to search in the forum search. Cause each time I search OEM or HTC or HTC OEM then it returns No results.
Ontop of all that if and only IF I do actually find something then I have to spend hopurs upon hours readying all the Good job, well done comments before I find the one tiny little comment that actually has the answer. At that rate, for a noob trying his hand at cooking it would take 6 Months to actually find all the answers.
And now you come back and tell me to search, and worst still you tell me that searching for Diamond Rom Development info in the Diamond forums is wrong also. Were was the part that told me were to search?

it seems quite some posts are missing here... xda-developers did a restore from a backup or something after the mess last night? .
Anyway, eangulus. This is what I have so far:
- Started with a stock 2.03 WWE ROM.
- Put in a 21042 SYS + XIP (so it's now 21042 build)
- After that ripped out some stuff:
- NetCF (because it's 2.0 now I installed 3.5 from CAB, we need the OEM for it)
- Manilla
- Opera (I guess we want a newer build)
I also needed to remove it from the 'auto setup' list
- Windows Live
- MP3 Trimmer
- RSS Hub
- AdobePDF
- Cyberon VoiceSpeed dial
- Google Maps (Because we want a newer build or nothing at all)
Also needed to remove it from the 'auto setup list'
- JBedJava
- ZIP
- Office OneNote
- SampleMusic
- SQLCeMobile (Leave the SQLCE engine in)
- Transcriber
The whole thing build nicely, the final .nbh is 86.5mb.
There are a lot of things that can be stripped more ofcourse, and it doesn't have
any 'tweaks' included yet. Stuff I still gotta learn / try out.
Also converting cabs to oem/packages is on the agenda , and see what is easy from
the rhodium / topaz oems to include.
After the flashing and first boot I installed the older STock keyboard (bigger T9) because I still prefer it, installed newer google maps and installed the latest Rhodium Manilla from xboxmod. Runs fine and speedy (still can be faster by cooking it in though).
The notification enhancement works by installed a certain cab afterwards (not the one included in Rhodium Manilla), but Menu Enhancement and the 'manilla start menu' won't work.
My 21038 build that I was working with in the beginning seems just broken or something, because the 21042 XIP/SYS I used worked flawlessy. So I was doing it ok all along, just had broken files .
So, what now from here?

To get you a bit started:
In the end I used bebe's kitchen (http://www.darkforcesteam.com/showthread.php?p=3560). You need to create a user on that forum and wait till they 'approve' you to access the thread though.
In the thread there are a couple of video's posted how to get you started. I watched them, understood them and then started cooking and it worked . I don't know if bepe wants his files freely posted everywhere so I'll let you to get them yourself.
The ROM I used I actually downloaded from the HTC site (http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=133&cat=2&dl_id=483). Entered my serial number and got the .exe with the ROM (the ruu_signed.nbh can be extracted by using WinRAR from the .exe).
The XIP/SYS I used are from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497586
Bepe's kitchen works with a OS.nb files (not .nbh files) so I used NBHUtil to extract it from the .NBH. NBHUtil was included in another kitchen, I got it from there. The kitchen it was included is actually an 'extended' bepe-kitchen, so you might want to play around with that one too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469420.
But in the end, I only used NBHUtil.exe from it .
In his video on how to port a newer build to your kitchen, he uses a complete newer ROM as a starting point. He extracts the XIP/SYS from that. If you do it like me, you don't have a complete newer ROM but only a XIP/SYS downloaded from this forum. They give you a os.nb.payload and a SYS folder. So you skip the part that extract those from a ROM and just instead use the files downloaded.
And that's pretty much it. With those files and the (short!) video tutorial's on Bepe's thread in darkforcesteam.com I managed it make something. (video on starting a kitchen from a ROM, and a video on how to port the XIP/SYS from another ROM to your kitchen). Try it, if you get stuck I'll help you. It isn't hard at all!

I actually have it already but thanks for helping out!

Trying out bebe's kitchen and trying an Upgraded OS build as we speak. Not as friendly as some of the other kitchens but with the vid's it is pretty straight forward thou.
Any luck in finding an updated list of HTC OEM Version Numbers and exactly what HTC OEM apps are available for us to package into it?
Im not going to do the manilla yet as I think its still a fraction too buggy. THe main one being atm is being out by 1 hour.
Once its much more stable and bug free then I'll package it. I do want the new notifications and menus thou. they seem to be workig OK.
ALso not sure if this is a HTC app or not but I have seen a new Wifi connection tool. It gives you a list of Wifi available in a Manilla Look, you then just click on one to connect. Do you know what that is called and who does that?

Also do I have to convert the .nb file to a .nbh again?

noob question: kitchen vs tools..same?

Newbie question. I don't understand, what is difference between a kitchen and tools like mamaich's ? At first I thought they were the same but now I'm not sure because I keep seeing references that don't make sense.
Post removed.
Post removed? That's it? Pardon me....Look, I know this is a newbie question but I am honestly confused as to what the definition of kitchen is. If I use mamaich's tools to prepare, view, etc. I end up with what seems, to me, to be a similar thing as a kitchen. Are they the same? Is there something about a "kitchen" that is fundamentally different than only using the tools? I have read many, many pages here and I'm honestly trying to understand. Please point me in the right direction. Thank you.
edit: sorry, I thought "post removed" in the earlier post meant I got my message removed from the forum by an admin, anyway, my question still stands.
Since the unhelpful member above failed to give you a decent answer, I will help you. Tools are either a program or a set of programs designed to do a task with the roms (for example, Mammich's tools are designed to help you edit the imgfs part of the rom). A kitchen is a set of tools (made by various people) designed to edit the whole rom or most of the rom and build your own custom roms. For future reference, if you ever have any other questions about rom building, let me know and I will help you out as much as I can.
Thank you very much Steven855 and I appreciate the offer to help.
I originally gave an inadequate answer - thus the removed post. Home ill with the flu, Nyquilled up and forgot which section I was in (thought I was in the Kaiser specific section and gave an answer associated with that). No ill intentions, so to speak.
What I will say is the various tools are something a newbie should probably feel comfortable using. Before using a kitchen, read, learn and flash a number of others' custom ROMs. While the great developers here have made cooking custom ROMs very easy with the kitchens, you can cause a lot of problems with your device if you don't know what you're doing.
No ill intentions taken. Like I said, at first I misunderstood and thought my post got nixed by an admin. btw notwithstanding Steven855's helpful answer, I had my question answered earlier on another thread when the same question came up.
Quote originally Posted by ramsses:
My understanding is the kitchen implies each module (with its associated registry - RGU - files and dlls etc.) is explicitly separated so it can be incrementally and selectively combined. What we are doing here is taking an existing set of ROMs and combining the dlls, exe etc. by hand - there isn't a handy gui where you can select which module you want. Also, the registry is necessarily hand crafted too. So by using the extract/rebuild tools, we are making a ROM, but it isn't a kitchen, more a roadside burger van!
Thanks again, really enjoying this site, and learning alot.

Hi Steven. I was wondering if you knew about ROM cooking for Verizon CDMA devices..ie the i730? I was looking around to see where I would be able to find the bootloader for it but I haven't found any answers yet. Thanks.
Sorry! Unfortunately, I don't know anything about rom cooking for pocket pc phones (yet). I'm still trying to get the hang of this rom building stuff myself (after 2 failed attemps to make an updated rom for the axim X50(mid)).

Sorry for beating a dead horse...but...

Hey guys,
I've been trolling the forums for some time now, and I have yet to find the answer that I am looking for in regards to cooking my own ROMs - specifically for the HTC Vogue (Bell). I have looked through all sorts of stickies/readmes, but I still cannot figure out how to put it all together...
I've got a stock ROM from Bell, it has been extracted (so I have the bootloader, .nbh file and so on)...
Now HOW do I extract the .nbf, or even edit it for that matter? The only solution that I have found is the UNIX-based one, but I'll be honest, PERL and I dont get along well...is there a GUI or commandline based solution for WIN32?
I feel dumb for asking, but if someone could help me figure out the editing/compiling/flashing aspect, I'd be forever grateful
Thanks.
Most of the kitchens will take that nbh and parse it out in to the OEM and SYS folders you need.
I would suggest you search for DogGuy's command-line kitchen, and use that as a learning tool as he has batch files that automate most everything, and yet you can go through them to better understand what is happening.
Good luck!
Also some recent threads at ppcgeeks on this topic with useful info.

Yeah, I did check that post, however, it seemed that they were a step ahead of me...the tools that were provided did not (both gave application errors on launch...?).
Thanks for the replies, any one else have other tips, pointers, etc?
PPCGeeks.com is the answer...I still haven't found it yet...there's too much info on that site. Have you seen this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=18745
By following that method its a TON of work...and that's using a 'kitchen' someone already made. What you and I want to do is create our own kitchen by stripping a stock rom...and there aren't any guides on how to do that...I'm assuming because that's even MORE work. So basically a (TON of work x MORE work) = Fu%$ that.
If you find a somewhat easy way to do this before I do, post it for us!

a request for ROM help

i need help with rom cooking. i have flashed my phone more times than i can count and i have used kitchens and and i have downloaded many rom tools to my computer. i have attempted making a few rom and when i flash them the dont boot past the windows screen. really i am asking for someone to take me under their wing and help me in the ROM cooking process. i know i am not ready for the major league entirely custom stuff but basics. like fetting to know what the some of the stuff in sys. folders are and such. i am not a complete newb but i am not experienced in programming so any help would be very much apprecieated.i have lots of patience with this stuff i am just uneducated with it.i am a well known member senior member at ppcgeeks. i just though i would post here also because i know there are some cooking legends here such as DCD. anyone with some experience your time will be much apprecieted.
Cooking roms
There is an excellent rom already out there for this phone. Unlocks the GPS features and has some of the best freeware utilities already installed. Then just install the other apps you need afterwards. If you dont keep flashing your phone it wont be so much work to put all of your apps back on afterwards....
Not to say that flashing and cooking isnt fun.. I mean I flashed my HTC Wizard about 40 different times in one night even.... Til I found that perfect ROM for it. But the GPS Vogue rom that is out there pretty good. It has almost everything most people need in it already. With most of the newest versions of stuff. (albeit a FEW things were out dated).
Not to discourage or flame you from learning how to cook.

i use the official ppckitchen over at ppcgeeks to add my own stuff to this ROM i just want to learn how to start doing this stuff so that i can get a better understanding of things and maybe eventually be one of the gurus around here and other places. i normally dont take things as flaming just tryng to be helpful as you see my status here but at ppcgeeks.com it is a different story. i love my vogue and i want to better my understanding of it.i am also trying to learn how to write programs in C++ that is also very difficult being that i am almost 16 and have no official training in any of this. thanks for the heads up but i have had that technology on my phone for months.

Basic Troubleshooting and how to ask questions
¤Do these first
Soft reset your device
Check there is no other programs conflicting

¤How to ask questions
If all else fails and you need to ask a question, at least do it in a way that makes it easy for us to help you.
Tell us what rom you are running.
What radio you are running
The above two points is why most people have there device info in there sigs.
Dont just say "it doesn't work" tell us what happens, is there any errors?
What have you done to try to fix it? Have you googled and checked this FAQ first?

¤What version of hardSLP do i need? Whats it do?
HardSPL helps prevent bricking your phone though bad blocks, and superCID’s your phone to allow you to flash a custom Rom. Get it here
¤Where do I find my carriers “shipped” rom? And what is it?
This is a rom that a carrier puts out rather than a cooked (custom) one, see here
¤Whats RBSC/RBSC/NBSC/NBCN mean?
RBSC - Real Big Storage Compressed
¤ More storage space than normal
¤ Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ More snappy and responsive
¤ Less stable
¤ Requires the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ No extended ROM
RBSN - Real Big Storage Normal
¤ More storage space than normal
¤ No Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ More snappy and responsive
¤ Less stable
¤ Requires the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ No extended ROM
NonRBSC - Non Real Big Storage Compressed
¤ Doesn't have more storage space than normal
¤ Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ Not so snappy and responsive
¤ More stable
¤ Doesn't require the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ Extended ROM
NonRBSN - Non Real Big Storage Normal
¤ Doesn't have more storage space than normal
¤ No extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ Not so snappy and responsive
¤ More stable
¤ Doesn't require the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ Extended ROM
To check if your rom is BS look in settings/system/memory ... if it is big storage it will have over 70 mb Free program memory.
When you are flashing your shipped rom, use dutty's good NHB tool to extract the carriers NBH, then put it back together without the radio, due to the dangers of flashing your radio over and over again. "nbhtool.exe" which is the tool, is attached zipped to the last post.
or here is the rom with the radio striped out (by me).
I myself use this, and im not on AT&T.. it was just the first stock rom I downloaded and stripped, it really doesnt matter where you live. The reason for doing this, is its quicker, you dont need to reflash the radio( Just the OS and extended rom), and radio flashing can also lead to bricks if you get an error midflash!
See here for more info
You should do this everytime you move from a bigstorage rom to another bigstorage, you will be fine going stock --> bigstorage, and you should be fine going bigstorage --> normal cooked, but sometimes its better safe than sorry! (I flash shipped when im planning on keeping a rom for some time, even if im going to a non BS cooked)
¤What is a "naked"/"lite" rom?
This means that the rom is as "lite" as possible, that it doesn't contain any/much extra software, normally designed to give you as much program and storage memory, to allow you to load the apps you want to use rather than using what the chef thinks are the best.
Radios
¤Will flashing a new radio solve my problems with Wifi/slow SMS/poor signel/Slow 3G?
Your radio rom only affects GSM/UTMS signal quality and speed, as well as call drop-outs can be palatially due to having a old radio. So, if your having slow 3G, poor signal, or lots of drop-outs, look into flashing a new radio.
¤Whats the best radio rom for me?
This depends, on where you live and what carrior, lots of people like the newest radio here and there is a thread about the radios that use the least power here.
¤Where do I find a radio rom?
All radios are here
¤Is flashing a Radio rom more dangerous than flashing a rom? If so, why and what can i do to protect myself as much as i can?
Yes, a lot more, if the flash gets interupted you could brick your radio. The best way to flash a radio is via the SD card method (see flashing section of this FAQ).
¤Noo! Im to late, my radios bricked, what do i do?
Well, see this thread here for help unbricking.
¤Best radio for XXXX countery
Best radio for South Africa
Best radio for Belgium
Flashing
¤How do I Flash a rom?
You need to flash HardSPL first, then download a custom rom of your choice, and flash via the Custom RRU or the SD card method.
¤What is the SD card method?
This is flashing your rom from your SD card, this is safer than using a USB cable, as there is less chance of disconnection ect. See here here
¤DAM! My phones broken, but I need to send it back to my carrior/ect for warranty, Dam how do i restore my phones SPL ect?
See mrvanx's guide on this here
¤My phones a brick! something went wrong, help!
This is a list of all the brick types that are known and how to fix them
¤Im geting random hard resets and other bugs, and im using a BS rom, whats wrong?
You didnt read the advice in post #1, flash a stock rom, for example this stripped one.
¤Why does this happen?
The idea floating around, and as explained by mrvanx is that as we are abusing the area of memory that is normally the extended rom, the memory setup gets a bit messy, so flashing a stock rom with extended rom overwrites everything back to how it was supposed to be, helping to improve stability. A stock rom is like a spring clean for the phone.
Bugs, Fixes, and Tweaks
¤Help, my 8525’s keyboard is wrong, what do i do? / How do I change advanced settings? / I want my keyboard to be in the German style.
Get Schap’s Advanced configuration Tool from here and here is a post with a cab for German keyboard layout.
¤What's the page pool? What does it do? How do I change it?
The page pool is Ram that windows uses as a cache, the more you have the faster windows should be running apps, but the less memory you will have for programs. Most roms come with a 6meg pool. To change the page poll BEFORE you flash the rom, use this tool, you cant change the page pool post flash.
Also see this thread for a good discussion on the topic

¤Why doesn’t my hardware keyboard work in landscape mode with opera moble?
This version of Opera is so far the only one I have found that works with the keyboard, Thanks Josh!
Or you can use this newer version which has full keyboard support.
I use Build 1957 myself, as i find the newer 2000+ builds do not support the landscape keyboard again (I have tried both of the builds at there at time of writing this).
¤But thats an old version of Opera mobile! I want a newer one!
Download this for build 1930 or this for build 1780, extract the 3 EXE's and replace the once in /windows with them (After you install the cab of cause)
Or you can use this cab to update to build 1938!

This seems is to-do with a driver issue, see this thread for more info and it seems the cab "HTC_Hermes_WiFi_drivers.cab" fixes this as seen in this post of the thread the cab is also attached to post #4 of this thread.
¤My Hermes wont change from this random USB cable? Why?

This seems to have been resolved in this post here.

You need to install the latest .net framework, run windows update to get it.

It seems YahooGo doesn't like CF3.5, see this thread here for a fix
¤My phone says I have unread SMS even when I dont! What do I do?
This post here should help fix it.
¤Does the Hermes support SDHC cards (4gig and up micro SD)?
Yes, in some WM6 and 6.1 roms that add the drivers to support it, but this is only in software, the bootloader doesn't support them, so you cant flash from a SDHC card.

CID means carrier ID, and it locks your device to only your carriors roms, hardSPL superCID’s your phone, so you shouldn’t need to run the CID part of the unlocker, as perminatly superCIDing your phone will void your warranty.
Get the unlocker here

¤Im confused by the terms used here! Help!
A few very common terms:
Flashing: To flash a new rom/radio means to basicly install a new OS
HardSPL: HardSPL is a a patched and hacked bootloader which alows us to run unsighed code (custom roms), and superCID our devices
Custom rom: A rom made my a chef rather than put out by HTC or another OEM
OEM/shipped rom: a stock rom that came from a carrior or HTC
Radio rom: This rom controlls the GSM part of your phone, and ONLY the GSM radio, flashing this WONT help with wifi/bluetooth problems, they are driver based (aka the rom you have on your phone)
A brick: A phone that has had a problem during flashing, and is only usefull as a brick, aka its non fuctional
A list of basic Acronyms
And here is a very comprehensive Glossary
Search XDA with Google If you cant find the info you need here, BEFORE posting a new topic

My to-do list:
Measure Idle and full speed file download power consumption on a few radios (new Thread)(This isnt going to get done I dont think.. to much risk flashing all the radios myself.. and it varies so much across the world..)
Radio Example:
Radio: 1.47.30.10
Location: England, East Anglia
Carrier: T - Mobile
Signal when testing: 4bars HSDPA
Rom: CRC V12.9BS Naked
Idle consumption: 40mA (leave the phone in the same place for 5min ish and take the average)
Radio on idle consumption: dial upto 3g then leave the phone in the same place and take the average.
Load consumption:415mA (use the dsl report mobile speed test, 1 meg file, and watch the meter, take the highest it goes)
Any notes: Kept poping between 3G and HSDPA.
I hope Im not going to upset/offend anyone with this, im just looking to make a roundup of all the info out there, and put down answers to all the questions I had when I first for my device, I know the radio testing has been done before, but it seems mrvanx has left us, or is leaving us for the Touchpro.
If this has helped you, or you like what I do, pleases consider sending me a small donation, any amount is very gratefully received.
Awesome effort
Hope one of the mods will make this a sticky, as most punters don't like reading, and don't go to wiki. Also translators would be helpful. I speak English and Indonesian/ broken Malay. Anyway as we are trying to keep this thread as UP TO DATE as possible, I am going to post the most recent and active chefs on the hermes forum.
RIP Marahox - he has left us for the raphael (traitor! ) anyway hope you enjoy your new toy buddy.
The latest 20753 by DVH - as this is the most recent build that the chefs here have managed to port, this is a super storage ROM, and possibly compressed, so if you are not adventurous, don't go this way.
PDA Corner 20748 - latest build, with a variety of flavours, for the adventurous and the conservative (being super storage, compressed, and normal) if you like older builds you can go to his old thread.
Starbase64 thanks for the great ROM and excellent cabs collection! And starbase's new release here!
CRCinAU 20270 Development ROM and CRCinAU 20270 gone stable ROM - this guy never cease to amaze me. Stable and fast ROM, with intuitive device update wizard.
I wish to extend my warmest welcome to two new chefs!
Anryl and JoshKoss new talents that the hermes world are happy to have!
Geez don't these two newbies ever sleep? Anryl just came up with a new 20748 build already, and so has joshkoss, ... their wives need to strap them to a chair?
Anryl has a CZ project going, visit here, for those come from CZ!
And how can I forget our order what you want chef, kareem9nba that is when he gets his laptop back, hopefully later this week!
And for those wanting some international flavour
Here is a Polish and a Spanish ROM (which I believe he is no longer cooking for the hermes either), and before you know it a new chef comes out with ITALIAN Rom
I am looking forward to some old chef that are returning, I can't mention names. If you are looking for an older ROM, don't forget to visit the first sticky!
so you've made it... thanks! I hope this will put an end to the endless tiny questions... if any need for translations is required, I might help with German and Arabic. thanks again

Im working my ass off Its almost done! (for the time being)
Anyone feel like starting off doing benchmarks for each rom? I might do, unless someone else feels like going into a flashing frenzy, with sktools lite, fresh flash, unpluged, and no activesync running!

No order

Hello, guys!
The forum is super but here is ocmplete disorder. Where are the ROMS?
How can one find a ROM file here?? The forum is huge and the search leads to discontinued results (2008 year)
Can someone point me to ROM file archive here?
BR
I'd demand a full refund of the money you've paid....
Seriously, if you scroll down through this list a few pages, some kind person has compiled a thread with all the links in one place. Search is terrible and you have to spend lots of your own time. Still, it's free.
Man its full of ROMs. Most active topics or most discussed ROMs are showed on first page. U dont need to search, just click on thread one the rom u like. Its noted by Cook, Built, WM version, sense version, and ROM Version.
Its easy as it can be.
But it's a mess here!
No normal instructions. All are outdated.
Well, as it was said - it's free and therefore it's messy.
ROMs here - one file, no Ruupdate.exe , no nothing. Like if any user comming here is a professional HTC developer. I am simple user and i am sick of spending hours of my time by gathring info by tips. Well, like i said -- good forum, but no order.
What are you complainin?
Please just have a look at recent posts as already said.
The threads where you have a lot of activity are the threads with new roms.
There are also plenty of tutorials!
For example this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211
For sure you will need some time to compare different roms and find your best fitting one....which comes with the big choise of roms.
And also there will be little problems from time to time which I'm sure you can solve in a short amount of time.
I can recommend the google search, not built in forum search.
Concerning flashing you don't need to use Ruupdate.exe, it's way easier to name your .nbh file DIAMIMG.nbh, move it to the phone's internal storage and flash directly (see tutorial)
Kind regards and have fun with your new roms

My complain is that forum is full of unimportant trash in topics and no really helpfull info. Like now, i have found a ROM, flashed it and i lost TouchFlo ) Super!
And no original ROMS, only some outdated.
Well, i am a bit tired reading this forum today within 8 hours to find more or less fresh tut, so i can not tell you exactly what is wrong, but i am telling you - i am professional software developer, not a lamer and not a pumpkin head BUT i lost in this forum, jumping from link to link.
I would delete ALL and put all in order:
Flash (ROM) files here:
Radio files here:
Boot loaders (Hard SPL or whatever it's called) here:
Flashers (Software) here:
Tutorials here:
Discussion here:
Instead i see 13248 topics with xxxxx messages inside and 1% of useful info.
Well, if you take donations then make it user friendly.
I will donate 100 USD to make it in order.
And PS - this is a problem that there are Plenty or tutorials!
Like we say in my language - brevity wit! Try to write the less and put sense the more.
Like when i read - hard SPL... then 100 lines text, cheers to authors and then - a patched bootloader..
LOL
