Touch Pro 2 vs. G1 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I swithced phoens so I have a g1 right now, and honestly I dont think that at least for me the touchpro 2's os well be better than android, android is a little TO simple, like it doesnt allow as much customization sure its open source but who cares! even without the source code windows mobile is way more customizable, at least for now, is what most peopple say, but I dont think andorid will ever be as customizable cause the people who use it prefer siploer phones than wm phone users normally so over all what do u think is better? I say G1 100%
EditL OMG IM SO SORRY LOL I MENT TOUCH PRO 2 100000% not G1 100% lol

Because it´s design and is more buisness oriented I´ll go for TP2 definetly!!
Android OS is so young now... perhaps in the future we can see a more mature and solid OS...

plus the phone itself is 100X better than the G1, I switched sims with my brother for a while so I am using a G1 its simpler than windows mobile that's for sure... too simple... lol and anyways I think that android is targeting a diffrence audiiance, and also I didnt have a data plan and it works for me, and so you dont get charged there is an app to disable data I think but I didnt get it I just dont connect to gmail or go on the web

I would say the Pro2 is better because it has WinMo preinstalled, and I'll bet that within a year, some people will take the initiative to port Android to the devices. Some of the hardware may never be fully taken advantage of (like the zoom bar, camera, etc), but the OS will probably still run well. So the way I see it, if you get the Pro2, you get both OSes, but you only get one with the G1. And I don't think I could give up Windows Mobile (I'm an addict ).

New to the TP2 2 wks old but.............
Hiya everyone. I have had a G1 since it came out the first day. I will admit it took a bit getting used to. However over the time I have had it I have done some mods to it. Its rooted I have had the Motorola Droid OS the Hero OS and Cyanogens OS several times. Each has its own benefits and quirks. I have yet to modify my TP2 mostly because I am skeeered of bricking it! LOL
Personally I feel that the Android OS is making strides as to becoming one of the top OS's on the market but it will have its niche. I think if you are in business then the TP2 is a great choice. But then again I have only had it for a short time.
So far so Good!

EDIT: oh, and I want my money back too...the title of this thread is absolutely 100% untrue, in my case anway
Well, I think it's fantastic you got a phone you enjoy using! Everyone should enjoy using their device. However, this begs the question: Why are you posting in the Rhodium section about how much you hate the phone, when this section is mostly (if not completely) filled with people who like their Rhodiums and like Windows Mobile? It's great you got a device you enjoy, but why are you telling the people who like their Rhodiums?
Just because you didn't have a good experience with the device, and didn't like it, doesn't mean the rest of us feel the same way. Most of the people who bought the Rhodium bought it because they like Windows Mobile, they like the form factor, they like something else about the device, or they don't really care at all. For a poor, suffering Rhodium user who must bear the pains of owning such an awful device, I can say that I'm actually quite happy with it
Don't feed the TROLLS

ROTFLMFAO!!!!
I had the Moto Cliq AND the Samsung Behold 2...both droid based phones, both sucked ass...I went running back to WinMo and am so happy I did. I can go a few days without charging my device...both droid phones I had to charge LITERALLY every 4-5 hours!! I can customize my device, tweak the hell out of it, and if I so choose, run a cooked rom made to my liking...not so with the Cliq or Behold 2 (not saying it won't be able to happen, but back in November, hell no). I too am quite happy, thrilled really, with the horrible device known as the Rhodium!! I guess what they say is true...ignorance is bliss.
BTW, the troll got its ass handed to him when he challenged the 3 billy goats gruff.
My daughter has the Cliq after the G1, and I also have the 3G Hero before buying the Nexus. I went through 2 Nexus and they are identical despite what the tech told me - the speaker blows, I missed more calls with the N1, and the speakerphone is hopelessly poor. I would have loved it but every chance I get I go back to my Tilt 2, especially when I need to sync notes & tasks from outlook.
Having said that, I am somewhat concerned with the HD2 as the HW is quite similar, I can deal with pink center spot from the cam, but the speaker/ringtone level is important to me....
dislike. someone can lock thread. i will admit that there is something to android. and as android dual booting improves i may have it as my primary os on the phone. but as for the hardware, nothing seems to beat my rhodium. i look forward to rhodium android but i wont switch for a nexus one.
I once said "windows mobile sucks" and quickly ditched my mda and scooped up an iphone...i got rid of that crap within two weeks ( no multi-tasking, editing of documents ect).
after trading the iphone on craigslist for a g1, I soon realized android needed some serious growing up to do ( no intergrated exchange support at the time, no editing of documents). I then found myself digging my mda out of the drawer and sliding my sim card back into its warm and familiar slot...
sure, wmo has its quirks, bugs, and annoyances, but living without the wmo goodness is something I shall not do again...
p.s. I'm not forced to use an app store or market place to correct those pesky quirks, bugs, and annoyances either...
What's crazy is that I would hit so many nerves win his thread. Last I knew this was an poen forum. I liked my Rhodium, but there came a time when I could not ignore the fact that the base OS is old as HELL!!!
That said, don't get angry guys, this thread is for those thinking of switching. With so many of you, dedicated and adamant, I am sure they wont be missed. And you may say what you wish, but there comes time where we must become productive, with our phone being a tool, than being a productive tool for our phone. Come on guys? How many hours have we spent tinkering? Lets not get it confused. I loved to do it as well, but to what end?

You posted in a forum full of 'above-and-beyond' winmo users, with acrimonious tone about how you think the OS is horrible for everybody, not just incompatible with your personal needs....and you're surprised to have gotten some charged responses...?? I think the protestants tried that with the catholics once, might want to ask them how that went, before they all realized there was plenty of room here for everybody's preferences, without having to disparage others' *ahem*
I'm guessing you also probably believe you're actually getting that 4MB+ downlink speed on your 3G that you've proudly posted there
Do me a favor, and you have to be honest. Come back in a month and list all of the problems you have had with your new phone along with a list of the problems you had with the Rhodium. Also, list the pros and cons for your new device and the Rhodium. If you're going to renounce the Rhodium (much less in a Rhodium forum) and want to convice others to do the same, at least have some info/data to back it up.
rename the thread atleast. Wasted time waiting to load this thread to read crap i dont care to read. Stupid
Can you list some specific pros and cons?
A Windows Mobile phone is only as useful, or useless, as its owner.

Microsoft (re)confirms HTC HD2s won't run Windows Phone 7 operating system [zdnet]

As HD2 owner I am dissapointed.
Again!!
But its just a spokeperson.. so we can't track the source... wich makes it a rumor..
Who cares what someone says at microsoft......they keep saying "No No No" like Amy winehouse....... HD2 can support it with EASE.
The reason why they say "No" is that microsoft has promised manufactuers that NEW OS equals Great Sales.....extacly how they did with the VISTA series !!!
What ever I say to microsoft......they like it or not....WE WILL get WP7S on out HD2 phones.....I love XDA !
One of the main reasons I got the HD2 was that I thought it would be upgradeable... I'm still hoping that it'll happen, one way or another.
I'm passing on the HD2 just beacuse of this reason I got my TP2 and when the HD2 came out I said I would just wait to see what WM7 is going to look like before I upgrade. I'm glad I waited. Guess you guys should have done the same. No one nows if porting to the HD2 will be possible yet so I wouldn't get too excited.

Existing hardware on desktops is upgradeable and Microsoft even gave free updates for systems purchased within the months leading up to release.
It's funny how they still leave the door slightly open with their statement.
The first device that has WP7 on it (as long as it doesn't suck) I'll be buying. My Touch Pro is due for retirement.
if you have read the article you will clearly see that the Microsoft spokesperson said that they currently dont have plans to update the HD2...key word being currently. but WP7 wont be out until around christmas....so curruntly they may not have have an update, but by release time they might. sometimes u have to read in between the lines...its something they are deffinatley working on, because if they werent, they could just give a straight answer instead of beating around the bush.
as a owner of an hd2 I would he dissapointed but I am really positive about this for simple reasons. i may be wrong about this but still ill say my opinion .
as a lot of ppl have seen on YouTube there is a video of someone from Adobe with hd2 with flash 10.1 and a (new kind of IE) which according to me is available on wp7s (according to MS a renewed browser with pinch to zoom )
BTW the home button of hd2 can somehow be reprogramed as the search button.
ok on YouTube you see the start menu but you don't see him opening the browser.
as i said I may be wrong but its my opinion.

No, the key word is "don't".
Yeah when someone says they currently don't have any plans it means they aren't going to do it unless it has a major effect on their business if they don't.

I'm definitely waiting. I was thinking about upgrading to HD2 but I'll just stick with my Touch Pro2 til the holidays.
I've wanted the HD2 from the second I put my eyes on it. It's everything I wanted in a phone minus the slide out keyboard, but the screen size made me willing to bypass that. Then I saw Windows Phone 7 and realized I wanted it on my HD2. Not being able to have it on the HD2 is surely making me reevalutate my future purchase of the tmo HD2 which is released on 3/24.
I may not get the phone at all and I really find that to be a sad thing for myself, HTC, Microsoft and TMobile USA.
Not a huge disappointment. I love the HD2 the way it is. WM 6.5 with HTC Sense does a very nice job in everything I need and use the phone for.
What I don't need is a closed OS with a lot of eyecandy (well, one can argue about that) and xbox integration. Microsoft can state "everything what ppl care about directly at the homescreen" as often as they want. But what I actually care about is efficiency on how I can use the phone. And having big colored blocks on the screen for every possible program/contact/bookmark/pictures/appointment etc. is neither very efficient, nor very effective ...
So glad I didn't wait

Well... I should have waited for a good Android phone instead of the HD2.
I'm not at all interested in the dumb iPhone copycat OS that WP7S is. Good UI, but other than that, they've just copied Apple's bad bad policies (out of envy, I think).
I'm not going to adjust myself to an OS that doesn't multitask, doesn't let me install the stuff I want because of Marketplace censorship, doesn't let me manage my files on my own etc.
With Android, like WM6.5, I can have an OS that simply does what I want it to do. I don't have to adjust myself. That's how it should be.
Thus, the only regret I have is that I've not waited for a good Android phone, because WM6.5 is doomed and now nobody will develop anymore for it, whereas the quantity AND quality of the applications on Android has now surpassed Windows Mobile, and the OS itself is almost there.
I'm not sorry either... I change my phones every year - as flashy and useful and nice as they are, they don't last as long as $50 Nokia dumbphones did.
I use my HD2 very heavily and, apart from increased tear, this toy is much more important to me than a regular phone. As such, it absolutely needs to be the best toy around.
Also, the earlier I sell my phones, the more money I'll get.
I love it and enjoy using it for the most part, but by the end of the year I'm sure there will be devices available that I'll want more, and the love affair with HD2 will be pretty much a thing of the past.
Finally, even though I like what I see as regards to WP7, I'm not at all sure it will have the essential apps I need or that it will live up to the promise in its v.1 incarnation.
Android... I can't force myself to like either the OS or the phones carrying it. Yeah, they have multitasking and all, but I'm not buying a principle, I'm buying a phone.

So Android buyers buy a principle?! Nonsense... they buy Android phones. Simple as that.
And of course, they buy them because they prefer them to other phones.
And of course, Android's features are reasons to prefer Android phones to other phones - and multitasking, for example, is one of them.
I don't like Google, I don't like Java... but if Google's OS is the only one to suit my needs, then I buy a Google phone. Because I'm not buying a principle (i.e. not Google or not Java), I am buying a phone (i.e. the phone that does what I need it to do).

Goodbye Windows Mobile... Hello Android

Retiring my TP2 today. Just had to get that out of my system.
Signed,
Another unsatisfied customer.
Quitter.
You are darn right I am a quitter! And proud of it! I just can't believe I lasted this long.
lame. though i would love an android phone with the form factor of the tp2. the keyboard and tilty screen has made every iphone user i know impossibly jealous. but its not a phone i can recommend because of windows mobile. windows mobile works well, with a custom rom, registry hacks, and custom installed programs. android is just easier out of the box. i look forward to htc releasing an android phone with a good slide out keyboard.
Nobody can blame you for leaving this device. You're the third person who's posted a thread about abandoning the Rhodium, and I doubt you're the last. I'm personally holding out for the HTC Vision and it's beautiful looking QWERTY, but there are so many great options out there it's extremely tempting just to sell my Rhodium on eBay and buy a Desire or some other decent phone right now.
Yeah dude I was originally going to hold out for that HTC Vision also, but I just can't take it any longer. Flashing custom WM ROM's and installing certain cabs and reloading all my tweeks and stuff is just too time consuming. Holy cow do I waste a lot of time reading xda! When you see how fluid some other devices are out there, at some time you have to ask yourself what the point of all this is? There is nothing WM can do that Andoid can not do and better (for me that is). I have tremendous respect for the developers on this site but I think WM is a dying breed. The TP2 should not have been as crippled as it is either.
I dunno, I have to wonder if there's a big difference between your TP2 and my Tilt 2 because I am having very few issues with mine even after modding the hell out of the stock ROM (no compelling reason to go to a cooked one yet). Yeah, WinMo has its issues, but I've been using it since WM2003 on a Viewsonic PDA, so I'm pretty familiar with it. My Tilt 2 does everything I need it to, much like My Incite did. The only reason I upgraded was because I needed a larger screen for my failing eyes. Anyway, I was just ribbing you. I might go to an Android at some point, but for now, my Tilt 2 has me covered. The honeymoon isn't quite over just yet.
I left the party and went over to Android. For me, it was more of a preemptive thing -- WP7 is an abhorrent POS and while I probably would have stuck around if a 4.3" device with WinMo 6.5 was being released, it looks like the TP2 is all she wrote for WinMo.
XDA was absolutely crucial to my being able to use and enjoy my TP2. But I don't have to live with buggy software anymore (actually, the things I got from XDA were stable, but the commercial products were certainly not).
If anyone is interested, Sprint in coming out with the Samsung Epic, a 4" SAMOLED 4G Android device with a slide out keyboard. But I've moved on to the Evo. I've coveted the HD2 and its Snapdragon processor and 4.3" screen for ages.
In the end, MS finally killed whatever enthusiasm I had for the platform.
You know I tried everything. I too modded the stock and still this thing lagged. The best I could do was cooked ROMs but still it was one thing after another that just got me to the point where I was milliseconds away from shattering my phone into a thousand pieces for some gratitude. Talk about rage! I honestly think I have worn out the reset button. And as far as WP7, give me a break. I can't believe that Microsoft is so far behind the game and now they are trying to reinvent the wheel. Cell phones and cell phone technology are a crazy booming and growing business. It's sad when a technology company tries to reverse engineer something because in this day and age by this time it's just too late.
tbh ever since Android came out, i always wanted one but since it started hitting the market, every damn person i know has an Android and it ticks me off because it totally reminds me of how iPhone got all popular, now Android is in that stage, teens are having the Droid incredible, EVO 4Gs its insane because i bet you 95% of them dont even know how to operate it, thats why right now im sticking to my roots by staying with WM because no one knows what the heck it is(except XDA ), i rather have something different from the crowd.....i started with WM and ill hang on to WM until the whole WM thing just dies which probably wont happen for awhile you never know
man thats a tiny slide out keyboard on the vision. im not so sure about that one.
If different is what you are going for then I say stick to WM. Personally for me, I need function and ease of use. To me, Microsoft is their own worst enemy for not delivering without making us spend hours on xda fixing their mistakes. Although it can be fun here on xda, it can be really frustrating as well.
To me, WinMo seems designed by the same people that design the desktop platform and not by people who actually use it every day. Too many things that just don't make sense (but easily fixed by others, fortunately). I think M$ needs to hire a few XDA developers and put them into the development cycle for WinMo. If WinMo 7 isn't a significant improvement it will be the last WinMo version because once the phone manufacturers stop supporting it in favor of Droid and others, death will be imminent.
And when you see Microsoft developing apps for iPhone and Android yet still plug away at their own software ala "Kin the spectacular failure" I can't help but be embarassed to be a part of this. Playing catchup in the tech world is just plain silly to me. Here is an article about it posted 3 days ago:
http://mobile.venturebeat.com/2010/...developers-to-catch-up-to-iphone-and-android/
Don't know if everyone's already seen this:

"The developers at Mobile Beat quickly recognized the labor-intensity of this UI method and one asked the Microsoft rep if anyone had bothered to test it with users. The answer was essentially "no" -- a scary thought indeed."
Sounds just like what I said earlier.

Then, be sure to read this as well.
I dunno, maybe it's because I've been using WinMo since 2003 but I'm comfortable with it. The biggest problem is there are still remnants in the 6.x versions being used on phones from when it was ported from PDAs back with version 5. Too much stuff designed for a stylus and not a finger. Another problem is that WinMo is not designed for idiots like iPhone users who have no concept of the level of customization that WinMo allows. I like that I have to be more knowledgeable to get the most out of my WinMo phone. It means I can more readily identify when something doesn't work right and why and fix it myself. I also love that I can make my phone more personal and not look like anyone elses. Every iPhone I've ever played around on, with the exception of what apps were on it, was identical to every other one in looks and function. Maybe this is OK for those with limited ability to mod their own phone, but I'm a tinkerer by nature and it would drive me crazy. Been modding my phone since my first RAZR way back in 2006 and wouldn't have it any other way.
I also like that I'm not tied to any one company for apps. For all the complaints I hear about so few developers writing for WinMo I have yet to not find an app for my needs. In fact, there are usually about 4-5 apps that do the same thing and almost always at least one is free. Sure, some are crap, but choice is a good thing. Certainly much better than limits.
I love my Windows Mobile phone and if WP7 improves on it even just a little, I'll probably stick with it.
Personally, I am really liking my WinMo 6.5 tilt 2. Yes, it has a cooked ROM and a few other tweaks, but so did my iphone that I had before this Tilt2. IMHO, as far as useability, and business is concerned, the Tilt2 is all business and not so much a toy (which is what I look for in a phone, since I run a home business from it.).
Scott
I think anybody who has taken the time to flash a custom rom for themselves here can be considered a power user. Everybody on this board wants more than the next guy. But what do you do when you've been let down and this place just isn't enough anymore? I have had Windows CE devices since 2002 and as silly as this sounds, my favorite device was my old T-mobile MDA with WM 5.0. Why? Because it worked. Now I realize that we are trying to do a lot more with our devices, but even simple tasks like text messaging and the actual phone part seems to get worse with each new OS. When I watch the videos for WP7 I am very let down. Customization is key to the MS fanbase. So the things that I would like are either getting worse or going away. Why MS didn't just turn over the whole program to XDA is a real mystery isn't it? Since I honestly think that we are the only ones who really care.

As Windows Phone 7 was launched today we wanted to put up a poll based on general perception of the device. If you could buy one today, money not being an issue, would you? We want to see whether Windows phone 7 has been received well by the community.
Cheers,
Steve & XDA News Staff
Wow first one to vote, maybe im just abit excited lol.
Omnia 7 is at the top of my list atm. GSMARENA has a good review of the device already (no idea how they got hold of it)
Im gonna hang on to my current device and by a WP7 phone when they start coming out with a second line of phones.
just bought my desire. WinMo 7 doesn't look too customizable, but only time will tell
Former long time windows mobile user, not impressed, Ill stick with my EVO for now.
Going to get a better Android phone I think... probably Samsung Epic 4G now or Evo (more than the WP7) ones now.
Once I see multiple calendar support, we'll talk. As for now: never.
Like a lot of people here, I have a HTC HD2 and am running WM6.5 and Android 2.2 on it. So, for me, I'll consider a WP7 device once my HD2 either dies (let's pray it never happens) or maybe in 6-12months when it's time for an upgrade.

Me too.... HD2 forever
Our beloved HD2s can run any OS so why switch to WP7 when the HD2 already runs it (Not public yet!)
The hardware in most (currently presented) WP7 devices is as good as our HD2's
So.. maybe I will buy one if the hardware is superior to the HD2's!!!

Um, there is multiple calendar support.
Looks great to me, especially the Dell Venue Pro.
Sure, why not. Every HTC phone that I have had was Windows. Why would I give up now? I have played with the HTC EVO running Android, and I do not like it. I prefer Windows. That is my own personal opinion and choice from experience, and somewhat from what I have spoken with other people who have Android phones from different manufactures, which I have personaly tried and played with for a while with each and every one of them.
I just prefer Windows over anything else.
maybe and unsure is about the same.
im hoping it can be ported to the hd2. that'll save me some money
for sure i will buy the WP7 phone HD7 i think... as i am HTC fan as well as WM.
Not at this time. I love the interface. I just don't like the rest of the story. The system just locks you in. Perhaps if could be jailbroken, that would change things.
Well I got the HTC Desire on Android 2.2 and thus far I don't see anything I prefer in the Win 7 phones that would make me switch. If anything it has less functionality at present with no cut & paste, no tethering and no SD card. I do like some of the features though but will wait and see how they develop this, so for now it's a no.
I think Microsoft has missed a trick with the launch of WP7, by basing the OS entirely for phone devices. As with Android it can be used not only on phones but tablets as well and judging by how the community response to the Sammy Tab is high with enthusiasm i think MS should have looked further forward than just Windows 'Phone' 7 and evolved further ahead with appying its new OS to tablets as well, even if not making it available now but atleast showing a mock up to show its potential of being more than just a phone OS.

What?!? no cut & paste and no sd cards? where can I read up on WP7 features?
Also long time and big time WinMo fan, but I got the EVO and after rooting it, nothing can come close. Win7 simply went the way of iPhone, by locking everything down, so even if it weren't for the rooted EVO being so damned awesome and far above every other phone out there, I wouldn't get a Win7 phone out of iPhone-hatin' spite.

[Q] Life after 6.5?

There appear to be a number of folk here who feel that WP7 is a step backward from WM6.5 in terms of feature set, customisability, hackability etc. What then would people propose as an alternative once WM6.5 is finally dead and buried, Android? Iphone? Symbian/ Maemo? or will you give WP7 a chance?

So much fight here about it.....
Well I'm still not decided.
But I know I want to give WP7 a go.
Looks great and I would be happy to have clean, unified UI.
Limitations which are apparent on WP7 make it unusable at this point.
Android is the most complete but I just really don't like it's interface...
Probably staying with 6.5 for some time....
i personally cant be bothered to hack my my phone and look for custom ROM to flash. surely people only do this if they are not happy with their phone.if you dont like the OS. dont get it. its the reason why im not getting android, or an iphone. all phones have great features missing from them. and wp7 is only in its first phase improvement like copy and paste will come. ive only got 1 complaint, and that is that i cannot use it as a flash drive but then again, if i did that, would it slow down to a crawl??? wp7 is dead easy, i dont have time to muck around like i used to with wm6.5 on my touch diamond 2. i want it all, and i want it all now. so im sticking with wp7.

Same thoughts here. Was cooking my own 6.5roms to get a slim and working OS but sinceI got my HD7, I've stop cooking totally because WP7 is very fast and stable for me. Sure there are areas I'm not happy with, but at least, I have more time to live my life now since I stopped cooking roms.
I'm not here to convince anyone to go WP7, each OS has it's pros and cons, and each of us are completely different and see things and have different needs, so we go for different phones, something that works for us.

LOL , you just made a lot of people angry by stopping with cooking rom's .
I think I will stick with wm 6.5 for awhile. I use it as a Mass storage device & tether with it often. I also am really used to using smart dialing which I can't understand why it wasn't added to WP7. I'll wait to a few months after WP7 lands on Sprint to see what the updates have brought & what hackers have opened. If more functionality is available on WP7 I'll get it, if not I'll go with Android when I want to upgrade because of hardware
shouldn't this be in the winmo section???

I'm going to wait for the 2nd generation of WP7 phones and OS (or at least an OS update or two). I was ready to get a focus, then I realized I'd be losing some features I enjoy on my TP2 (multitasking, tethering, call manager) just to gain a newer OS.
I also want premium hardware and design which the first generation doesn't seem to offer. DVP comes close though.
i switched to android, never looked back

wait, you are using a plastic phone with a plastic resistive screen and are talking about premium hardware???
There should be another choice "I would celebrate with Dom Perignon!" Please put the 6.5 out of it's misery already!
One thing is sure for me, I will not be joinging the iPhone family.
Possibly Maemo or Androd. Depends what kiind of devices will be out by then.
W7 only if there has been lots of needed updates and/or hacks/roms and such.
Any poll in a specific device forum will always have support for that device.
Poll threads should be in common forum to get a neutral response from ALL, IF the thread starter wants to know EVERYONE's opinion.

Life after WM6.5 to which he refers is precisely WP7. then the correct section!
A little off-topic, but correct!
I found that I was having to flash new ROMs etc to my 6.5 because the UI and features available to a standard WinMo was rubbish. I never liked the 6.5 OS much, I just liked the ability to customise and look deeper into the phone
I am now on WP7 and would never look back on 6.5.
At the moment I don't see I have much choice - Android here I come I think.
The gains in slick simple UI are insufficient in my case to outweigh the loss of functionality vs 6.5.
Many of the other advantages (gaming for example) are of no interest to me on my phone (I am not the target market).
I will stick with 6.5 until at least Phone Alarm is released for Android, then it will become viable for me. Hopefully this will be early 2011.

 My premium phone standards were set by my SE X1, not the TP2. I would really love to see a WP7 version of the X1. Hopefully the X7 will deliver. But knowing SE, it won't be released until next November.

Ditto. X1 was excellent.
Currently on X2 which is actually better in many regards.
Anyway, I just hope SE will make it around Feb/March.
So it will catch upgrades which are for me necessary.
And until core apps I use on WM 6.5 will be functional/supported
I can just wait for some time....
I find it hard to believe anyone speaks of the death of WinMo in the present tense. It died for me like 2 1/2 years ago and since then the iPhone has taken over the smartphone market, Android has taken over the spot WM6.5 used to occupy and Microsoft has done practically nothing until very recently. I bought a Focus and I like it, it's a magnitude nicer and easier to use than my old Fuze with WM6.5 and while it's lacking a lot of the functionality, that will come with time and, in the meantime, I don't need to take out my reading glasses and itty bitty cramp inducing stylus to use it. The Fuze is still sitting on my desk, unused, with a noticable layer of dust on it. And there it will sit until I finally tire of looking at it and throw it away. And good riddance!
I cannot speak for anyone but for me, I have been windows mobile user ever since palm treo with windows on it. Before making switch to WP7, my device was Tilt2 and I tweaked the crap out of it putting custom roms and radio to fit my taste. Although having the capability was great but my user experience was not all that great. Something was always wrong and the hardware and software wasn't working correctly, so I was constantly tweaking and tell you the truth I got tired.
I was ready to jump ship to Android with Samsung Captivate but as soon as the WP7 was arriving I decided to wait. Boy I am glad that I did, I am happy with my samsung focus. Although it's missing some functions now but I am sure it's on it's way, the stability and the fact that it just works and I do not have to tweak anything makes my life a lot easier. Could not be more happy with OS. At least so far.
My wife has iphone and looked at android and both are not really appealing to me. Android is not all that great even if with all the customization and tweaking.
