Xperia GPS Photo - XPERIA X1 Themes and Apps

Hi, how can i know the GPS is online and can i use Xperia GPS photo position informations in Xperia Google maps or other program, Opera?

Thers a gps icon I think. Or just start google maps and when the gps locks use the camera.

I don't think so. I believe that nobody can use this geotagging. Just wait for the official release of R3AA firmware

Hmm, yes they can. Upload your pics to Flickr and under More Properties you'll see the Long/Lat EXIF info: http://www.flickr.com/photos/artesea/3397692509/meta/

I've installed the R3AA camera cab on my X1. Geotagging works very well. Can open the photos on my Mac with OS X Preview. The coordinates are displayed in the Inspector panel, clicking the locate button shows the position in Google Maps - just brilliant.

dosn't work for me...does any program have to b enabled before it works..

What's your ROM version?
As far as I know the geotagging and autoflash features doesn't work on R1AA.

Irfanview working fine http://www.irfanview.com/ download plugins too, after install klick image - information then EXIF info and "show in Google Earth" - Google Earth is must be installed in your PC, why this is not workin in phone in google maps or something?

it's working for me also... but remember, launch the camera and take some photos.
if you launch, take a photo and exit, no gps data will be embedded as you have to wait to the x1 to get a fix on the sats before it records that info.
example:
I shooted 4 photos and only the last 3 had the gps data.
of course, if you launch the camera and wait to get the fix, all photos will have it.

That works perfectly. But I found gps info on only 2 of all the pictures I took. Need more patience...

Lots of GPS-info!è
but I don't know where it is xD

Hi,
When taking pictures you must wait until you will see 3 little "brackets" with satellite icon (left upper corner). It means you have GPS fix. Now while taking pictures you will have long/lat data in EXIF.
Send it to flikr or picasa and will see exact position of them.
These I taken with my X1: Geotagged X1 photos on Picasa

Whoot!
Nice
You don't need to place the picture's on the map itself, right? LOL
Anyway thx for the tip ;-)

Yes, it is no need to place it on the map. Just upload the photos and they are placed automatically.
You need to remember when changing resolution (irfanview for example) always keep exif data while saving the photo.

Hello to All
As you noted, the version TT7.915.9196
includes that can navigate to pictures GEO Tagg
With this guide, you can use the function without having to use HTC FootPrint:
Create a folder named GEO-PHOTOS in ROOT
your SD
Open your camera and take a picture with the "GPS Photo"
Copy your photos in the GEO-PHOTOS
Start the TT7.915, navigate to ... and your picture will appear!
This all works on my HTC HD and it works
To find your photo, if you have to save the picture in SD,
out by the function of the camera, you will find the photos in My Document / My POI
That's very interesting. Should be usefull, but still there is no posibility to save current position.

wow - works like a charm, thank you very much
Perhaps worth mentioning for the uninitiated that (I presume) you will need to have GPS Photo enabled in the registry to be able to take those pictures in the first place.

Dear alesscam,
I have installed TT7.915 successfully on my HD. It works fine. Gets GPS fix quicker than TT7.10. I am keen to get the geo-photo function working.
I did not use the cab file to install, but copied all the files into the existing Navigator folder (from TTV7.910 install). Could I have a missing registry entry?
I have followed your guide and created a GEO-PHOTOS in the root of the HD memory.
I have GPS Photo enabled via HD Tweak.
I made sure that the GPS was on and had a fix prior to taking a photo with the on board camera.
I copied the photo to the GEO-PHOTOS folder.
Started TT and went to navigate to - Photos.
tapped the icon. No photo is displayed.
What am I doing wrong?
You mention SD. Exactly what are you referring to?
When I look at the folder where the photo is, it contains my photo as well as a file called thumbs_geo.dat I think this the geo code data required by TT to locate the picture on its map.
Thank you for sharing and looking forward to your help.
Best wishes,
David

Not sure if you got it working already. You are suppose to create the folder in ROOT of your memory card and not HD memory.

Geotagging Photos

Hi there,
Recently had an epic trip (thanks to the volcano), left geotagging on for all photos, so I can see them dotted across a map of Europe.
Cant find any way of viewing them, I've tried uploading one to flickr, and it doesn't do anything automatically.
Is there something I need to do? Gotta say, the iphone geotagging feature is much better implemented...
Regards
niklz
my bet is on picasa as it is googles own photo hosting. On my picasa I have a small google map on the bottom right of my home page with a mark on florida for the photos from last years warped tour and dundee from a random jaunt i went last summer =]
I assume this is exactly what yours would show up like if you uploaded them all.
Im actually going to go check see if this works...
Edit: ok i cannot get geotagging to work, full stop... not good.
Any light shed on the subject would be awesome
Seconded, dying to see them.
If you open the EXIF data (right click the photo in Windows Explorer, properties, details) there should be a 'GPS' section which has latitude and longitude coodinates if the geotagging info has been stored correctly...
Nothing wrong with geotagging here. Take photo, upload to flickr, view flickr, click add to map and the map is centred on the geotagged coordinates.
If you check the photo properties on flickr you should see the following
GPS Latitude:
GPS Longitude:
GPSAltitude Ref: Above Sea Level
GPSAltitude: 79 m
GPSTime Stamp: 08:29:46
GPSMap Datum: WGS-84
GPSProcessing Method: HYBRID-FIX
GPSDate Stamp:
Just tried it in picasa (desktop version), just uploaded photos direct from phone to web picasa. Then sync the desktop picasa to your web albums. You`ll see a small red icon in the bottom left (google maps). Click on places icon in the bottom right and a map will open showing your locations of your photos.
Or a really cool feature is to select all your photos, click the geotag icon at the bottom. It`ll open google earth and geotag all then you can see all your photos in google earth.
In your Flickr settings, enable "Import EXIF location data".
Hmm, my photos don't seem to have any EXIF data on geo location :*((((.
I had GPS on obv, all I have done with the photos is copy them onto my hdd, using the HTC usb cable.
I have since replaced the phone, anything else I could try? Or has my old phone just cocked it up...
Regards
niklz
Just tried same procedure with new phone, no luck.
Sorry to be a pain, but could you do an idiots guide.
What settings must be in affect on the phone/PC.
What method of getting photos to picasa/flickr insures the uploaded file isn't compressed e.c.t.
Would be very grateful, Let me check if this new photo has geotags in the EXIF data.
Regards,
niklz
Bump, please cant get this to work atm...
I`m just uploading to flickr or picasa straight from the phone. Take photo, press share icon, send to my flickr/picasa account.
If you load into the pc they should be fine, but exif (geotag) data can be lost if you manipulate and resave the images in some software.
Also, on the Desire. Check the settings in camera has geotagging on, then when taking a geotagged photo make sure you have gps lock. The animated gps (satellite) icon in the top left corner of the camera screen will be replaced by a target to show locked location.

Ahh, its the lock thing! really really wish I'd have known this a week ago!
Thanks for the help, now it works fine. takes ~30sec to lock for the first time, is that normal?
Is there a decent geotag app for the desire, will google earth do it on the desire?
kind regards,
niklz
Yes usually takes about 30 secs to lock onto the satellites. You could always leave GPS on but then its going to eat battery.
Haven't tried any geotagging apps for android sorry. Google earth wont do it. Its pretty basic on android, recommend doing those kind of things on the PC.
aaah right. so yea i had the right idea but had no idea about the location lock. Cheers guys
Does anyone know if it is possible to geo-tag using only tower location? Used to be able to do this on my iphone and although not 100% accurate, at least lets you get a rough idea without trying to get a GPS lock?
Our is there an app which would do this?

Instant Upload for Existing

Hi, is there anyway to get Instant Upload to upload my existing pictures? I just started using it as I created a google+ account yesterday. I have it enabled on CM10 (jellybro) but it doesnt upload pictures i take either :/. I have it enabled on google+ so I have no clue whats going on.
Make sure its sync is also set on in the google account associated with the phone, by default its usally off and the sync options are also usually unchecked. You can try mannually hitting the sync button on the phone to make sure its working. If you have a power widget make sure sync is also set on there.
Yeah I updated to the latest nightly and it grabs new pictures now. Do you know if there is any way to make it upload existing ones?

Ah that menu wasnt there before i updated to the latest nightly. Weird haha. Worked like a charm, thanks!
Also, does it only upload from the camera photo album? Is there anyway to add another album for it to upload (whatsapp photos)

Anything that gets saved to the Gallery gets uploaded.
It looks like it only uploaded my Camera album, is there anyway to change that?

[Q] Geo Tagged Photos & Maps

I have a question, on the Note 3 when you took a picture with Geo Tagging turned on you could at a later date, bring up the photo and press the menu button and get directions to where the photo was taken in Google Maps. Now that I have the Note 4 I dont see Get directions in the menu anymore. This really blows because it was a feature I used a lot on the Note 3. I can bring the photo up on a Google map, I can see where it is but I see no way to map myself to it.
Any insights on how I can regain this ability, is there a plug in I need to install, or a separate app?
Thanks.
If you goto the photo, click the menu button, click more info. All your geo tagging is in there. It also will bring up Google maps and show all your photos and where they were taken on the map. Hopefully this helps

image Optimisation messes up time stamps

Hi all,
So here is what my concern is.. I have backed up my photos on Google photos cloud.. and I want to reduce the file size of the photos on my zuk z2. I tried GOM saver and all in one toolbox image optimiser.. and what they do is they create new optimised image file. So when I open my gallery - or Google photos , every photo shows up in "today" as they got created today by optimising app। And it's all shuffled up and random. To fix this I had to remove all photos from my device and download from cloud again.
Can anyone suggest me ?
Inputs will be appreciated
Thanks

Check if the optimized picture has any EXIF data(date and time when the picture was taken), maybe then you have a chance to fix it. I use QuickPic app and it gives and option to fix the date. Check the attached screenshot
Okay thanks for the suggestion. Will try to fetch date and time by exif.

Hi..
I tried what was suggested.
I compressed 3 of my photos using all in one toolbox.
They started showing up at the top of my photos list as the optimised files got created today.
I went into quick pic - I fixed the date of those photos.
They still show that they're created today..
Thank you for your input though.
I am open to any more suggestions please.

Every pic you click will have an EXIF data. The app you are using to compress the picture is not replicating the EXIF Data (only photo taken time and date is required) of original pic to the new compressed pic.
QuickPic can only fix this if the EXIF data has proper date.
My suggestion would be, try a different app to compress the pictures which saves some of the EXIF data.
P.S. I have no idea if any Android app is capable of doing it. Long back I used to have some software(forgot the name) in Windows which gets the work done.

Okay agreed.
I searched alot but was not able to find an app which retains the exif data. We can manually change the exif but that'll be a lot of effort for just saving a little space.
Thanks though.
Thread can be closed.
Simply enable high quality upload setting instead of original.
Google photos will automatically resize without quality or exif data lost.
Also u will get unlimited storage on this setting
