Keyboard - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I know the TP2 has a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard.
But I was wondering is it also possible to type something on the TP2 if the keyboard isn't slide out? So if it has an on-screen keyboard?
Thanks in Advance!

Thanks, been reading things here for a while, just never really had something to post about
I'm prefering the TP2's design over the TD2's design. And I rather have the dual mic and speakers than a slighty better camera.
I was just wonderin if it would have a slide out keyboard and a on-screen one.

Also, it's nice since it will finally have a big enough screen to use a finger touch keyboard with. The old 2.8 inch screens just weren't wide enough.

Yeah I think the touch pro 2 is a lot better too but the thing is that the diamond 2 has a better camera than the touch pro 2 so yeah you will actually have a worse camera if you for the touch pro 2 than if you go for the diamond 2 but the screen is bigger on the touch pro 2 so yeah that works for me.

The landscape keyboard is a big part of my buying decision, but I don't expect it to completely replace an onscreen keyboard. If I'm typing in a short web address, document name or a password, I may not bother to slide out the keyboard if the softboard is easy to launch and goes away quickly.

Exactly the reason why I wanted to know if it had an onscreen keyboard!
Or when you are in the club, and want a galls phone number

I just hope the onscreen KB won't be like the one on the kaiser/tilt/tytn 2. yknow, the way the onscreen KB keeps popping up if you use if even once? that annoys me lol

A brilliant reason for having an on-screen keyboard. I like that!

lol this is a odd thread , the touch pro 1 had an onscreen keyboard , why wouldn't number 2 lol , also , why would it be hard to type if you switch to the compact qwerty on the touch pro one lol i find it quite easy

Well, I didn't know that the TP had a Onscreen one.
And because TP2 has a newer version of TF3D it could be possible that they left it out. I didn't know, that's why I asked.
Plus, the TP1 had a FM-radio, and the TP2 doesn't..
So the TP2 isn't just the TP1 with a better keyboard and biggerscreen.. They added things, and left things out!

according to the htc website, the tp2 does have fm radio.
not sure about the keyboard.
as for the cam, if you really want to take pics when you out and about take a digi cam out with you, there are some very decent small ones available now, try olympus or casio range.

Indeed, it says it has a FM-radio. Don't know why all people are saying it hasn't got a FM-radio.
The touchpro2 will have a onscreen keyboard.
For reference, look at on of the video's on this site. There you will see the keyboard. Nice fingerfriendly one

I think all wm phones have onscreen keyboards, and if one didnt, then someone would probably just port it over.

Anyone moved from XDA mini s? Hows the lack of keyboard?

Hi Everyone,
I'm using the xda mini s at the moment and love it. Would obviously really like to add integrated GPS though.
3G is of little interest to me, so the Orbit looks perfect.
Only problem...no keyboard. How have you guys got round that? I simply cannot be bothered to always use the stylus.....will it be pointless for me then? Or have they managed to create a good alternative.
Would appreciate anyones views and experiences.
Thanks
HPJ
well i dont have orbit however played with it for a while when my friend got one.
What can i say. Trackball and wheel solution are good, imo much better to navigate phone then normal joypad.
However. It doesnt have a keyboard
So already having external Bluetooth gps i see no reason why i would buy orbit instead of hunting for htc herald which is the same factor but with keyboard...
And that would be ( and in fact will be ) my choice. Of course question now where to get herald from as it retails for £300+... i would just wait until my upgrade time comes and buy something else and sell it in order to finance new herald.
I had a wizard before the Orbit. Have to admit that I do miss the "real" keyboard and havent really found an on screen keyboard that makes entering text as easy. I did only use it occasionally though and love the size and look of the Orbit so it seems to more than make up for it in my opinion.
Hi, I've recently upgraded from a Mini S to the Orbit.
I've not really missed the keyboard, but I guess it depends on how you use the device. I've installed the T9 phonepad .cab file that's available on here & I use that for sending text messages. Why the hell it wasn't included as standard I have no idea - seems daft cos if i remember correctly, it is included on the Mini S :s
If you use your device to enter a lot of text though, e.g. sending emails or using it to edit word documents, then you might find the on-screen keyboard very fiddly to use.
I manage to successfully type on the software keyboard with my two thumbs using the Xda Orbit in landscape mode, I make a few errors but I'm used to making and correcting those on a PC keyboard anyway so I get by. Something the same size of the Orbit with a slide out keyboard would be awesome but at the moment I can't see how it would be realistic.
The Orbit is SOOO much better. It's much slimmer so doesn't feel like such a brick (imagine the mini s minus the whole top screen section (the silver bit)
I also installed phonepad and it works well. Built in gps and slimmer phone are the key factors for me
It also has start menu and ok keys on the front, so 1 handed operation is good
If the keyboard was a real issue, I would use SPB full keyboard - check that out if you have concerns
Excellent feedback, thanks everyone.
Think it sounds worth it...think I'll make the move.
Also checked out that SPB keyboard. Looks great.
Will let you know how I get on (in case anyone else is in the same position)
Cheers
HPJ
I too am making the move from my mini s... gald to be leaving th bulk behind.
i am torn between the trinity or the artemis ... i was wondering on what you guys know about this sd card problem if you'd recommen going for the trinity instead... only thing it seems to lack is the fm radio!
any thoughts?

SD card problem is affecting all the devices You may check the forums.
I have just contacted O2 to send back my mini s (wizard) and
I am getting an orbit instead. My old phone is a magician, and when I got the mini s, I was really disappointed!
Obviously it has features such as wifi etc that my magician didn't have, but it was a big clunky plasticy slow monstrosity.
I realised that I actually preferred my magician, so I got straight on the phone to O2.
Ok, rant over. The point of this is that I didn't appreciate the keyboard on the mini S at all. I have spb fullscreen keyboard and spb pocketplus on my magician, and I never ever have to use the stylus. I set the icons on the pocketplus today screen to large, and use the soft keyboard for texting etc.
The keyboard for me makes the device practical, I don't think I'd still have a pda phone if I hadn't discovered it.
I actually dropped my stylus at my friend's house and wasn't aware that it was missing until she returned it to me nearly three weeks later...
By the way, I don't work for spb or anything lol!
If you read about the apple iphone, you'll see that they have done away with the stylus by using a similar interface.
Obviously the way to go!
I've always used the letter recogniser on XDA's find the on screen keyboards clumbersome.
My other half hates the bulk of the keyboard on her Mini.
I've moved from the Mini-S to XDA orbit. Full screen keyboard is ok, but I find it a little cumbersome.
I've just discovered the International T9 Phonepad from this very forum, and it works a treat, well, once I discovered "Tab" was "space" anyway!! Great for notes and calendar entries, and makes one-handed text entry a real possibility. Definately worth a try!

What, the link is down?
Did it get xda'd? lol
Been using it for a few weeks.. Skinable and very easy to type with. In fact you can just slide your finger around and let go when you see the key you are looking for highlited..
Another thing you should look into is PocketCM...
http://www.pocketcm.com/
CONTACTS replacement!!! I like this even more then their keyboard solution.. Imagine the iPhone contacts slide you see everywhere, and you have pocketCM. One of the best features is the A-Z on the left side to quick jump.

How do you install this on hermes w/WM6? When I go into settings / input and change to PCM keyboard it says " Pocket CM keyboard has to be the current sip in order to configure it? what do I do?
Just click the little triangle beside your keyboard icon (bottom middle of bar) and select PCM Keyboard. That should do it...
i have been using the pocket CM k/b since yesterday and ts a quantum leap forward from any other k/b that is available. Its a must have for any Windows mobile user. It works on all PPC phones!
There is also a contact manager from the same author. You can use your fingers to scroll through and select contacts. I use that as well. It works great! It is called pocketCM. URL: http://www.pocketcm.com/index.php
I've installed it and it shows up in the list of available input devices but selecting it does nothing at all. The keyboard doesn't change visually onscreen and if I check the current input device it still shows the standard keyboard.
I can go into it's options and play around with things but if I change the Input Method to PCM Keyboard and click OK, it still doesn't switch over.
Running Schap's WM6 Pro 3.60a ROM.
Tried soft resets, tried installing to main memory and to storage.
Running 0.6 version.
Douginoz.
same problem here
What a bummer.
Too bad the Hermes doesn't have either a slide out keyboard, Block Recognizer, Letter Recognizer or Transcriber.

I don't think sarcasm is called for; this looks like a neat keyboard that works better than the stock one for those times that you dont want to slide out or use the stylus.

Strange, I installed it on my 8525 (see sig for ROM info), and it worked fine. Of course my fat fingers don't let me use it all too well... But then again, I have the same problems with an iPhone and even the slide-out keyboard on the Hermes. I actually find the Letter Recognizer to work quite well for me, but it's a matter of personal preference (I was a big fan of Graffiti on the Palm, but Graffiti 2 was abysmal.)

keyboard on startup
Is there anyway to make this the default keyboard? When i reset my phone, it goes back to the standard keyboard
I'm in love with this keyboard! I had downloaded and installed the first version a couple weeks ago and liked it enough to use occaisonally. I felt like it had great potential and just needed a little polishing. But this new version, .6, is awesome! Perfect. I'm gonna use it all the time except when typing sms with the palm threaded app. I'll slide out the hardware keyboard on my hermes for that.
As soon as someone fixes the palm threaded app so that the SIP keyboard doesn't cover up the text you're inputting, I'll use this new PCMkeyboard there, too. And I'll send a hefty donation to that person that fixes the palm app.
donation on the way to this PCM guy, too.
Does anyone know if this keyboard supports other languages' input methods?
Under the options, there's a select box for "Keyboard layout" which includes:
Czech
English
Francais
German
Polish
Russian
Spanish

Alternative keyboard - ROM incoporated only?

I'm no pro when it comes to these things but I have read a fair amount on here when it comes to these things, but I'm confused so hopefully someone can clarify..
I've got my new Compact 3 from T-mobile and I really can't stand the qwerty keyboard. It works fine with the stylus but it's just not any good for finger typing. I quite like the Touch version where the keys are quite a bit larger, so here's the question..
is it possible to get another input keyboard working on this device without the need for a replacement rom? I'm happy with the officla T-mobile WM6 version I upgraded to at the weekend.
http://www.cootek.com/
This one is good and free at the moment.
what will happen with the standard keyboard? will I still have choice to use the small keys one?
is there a way to add the touch keyboard but with Russian layout/letters without changing the rom?
I use resco keyboard, it's commercial but I haven't found any other keyboard for that price/features. It supports Russian and about 20 other languages. It seems to be working a little slower than other keyboards but not that much.
Try this one:

It's a very good keyboard, with tons of features, for me the big keys are a must-have.

On Screen Keyboards

Hi there,
I'm usually in the Blackstone or Rhodium forums and have a mate who has the Xperia X1 and asked me about the on screen keyboards.
Looking at this phone, he only has the normal on screen keyboard which needs the stylus to be used, is there anyone out there that has the "Full QWERTY" and "Phone Keypad" Keyboards as a cab to install?
Thanks
search for FINGER KEYBOARD 2.1 or something like that. it's much better than the se kb.

Are u serious?
what's the point of a software keyboard when u have a hardware one?
imho, the best solution even is to install nullkeyboard to stop the annoying software keyboard from popping up.
Try SPB Keyboard. Its great
Hi, Although u have the slider keyboard already, but for obvious reasons one may need a software keyboard too. Try SPB Keyboard (just google it and u get the links). It also gives u lot many plugins to shoose from various layouts/options of keyboard.

Although hardware keyboards are great, you need two hands to use them. When you want to send a quick message or send something quick on Twitter etc, one hand is prefered, hence the Software Keyboard is needed.

I used the Touch IT Blackstone keyboard set which includes a handy keypad, simulating a normal phone pad. I mostly use it for one-handed sms.
The filename is Touch-IT Blackstone Keyboard.cab or something, so a search would probably yield results.

ezinput 1.5 works BUT has smaller keys and the font is messed up (courier?)
oh well
still eager for someone to fix this issue...
what about the issue that older EzInput keyboards had with the predictive text on the X1i?
I remember when i installed 1.5 it would no longer pre-populate names as i was typing in the To: section for a text message
dont really care about t9 or predictive text...
i just want to type and use the fn key to properly output numbers rather than using sym all the time >.<

Best Keyboard app?

I was not to happy with the pocketCM and it was the most recent version too. I've heard good things about the TouchPal and the SPB keyboard but before I buy the I'd like to know the thoughts of others. Do you use one of these keyboards? what do you think? Do you use something different?
ezinput QVGA. There's no xt9 for the vogue, but the full QWERTY is brilliant
Get Touchpal. It's one of the best out there and I'm thoroughly satisfied. It's less than $10 now and worth every penny.
I've been playing with Finger Keyboard for a bit now and seem to like it. I'm not even a full qwerty type of person.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550587
I am a pretty big fan of touchpal version 2.0. I tried version 3 and it was really clunky and laggy for me. I see no reason to even try V4(aside from maybe spell correction), version 2 has always worked perfectly for me and performed exactly as i would hope a keyboard would (word suggestion, saving) and best of all it is from a better time when 300 kb of program was free.
mine works on qvga for sure not sure if it will work on any other resolution
