The best way to remote desktop?? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

First off Hi all and Im no longer a XDA virgin, or I wont be in a few days anyway
I borrowed my mates old mobile phone that has mobile 2003 SE to see if I could control my desktop pc with it, thats running vista 64bit, so I can turn on my desktop pc, run winamp and play all my tunes from my bed. I must of tried 2 or 3 bits of software with no luck each time. then I noticed the "Terminal Services Client" that win mobile had. That sort of worked and I did remotly ran winamp, but it wouldnt play for some reason?? But the software kept hanging and crashing so I couldnt really do much anyway. Ive looked for another version of "Terminal Services Client" for windows mobile but theres none.
Tonight Ive just bought my first mobile/pocket pc "SPV M2000 / HTC Blueangel" for £60. Its been upgraded to windows mobile 6.1, so my question is will I have better luck with remote desktop on windows mobile 6.1 and does 6.1 has "Terminal Services Client"? If not what is the best software for remote desktop for win remote 6.1?

vncviewer
can't answer your question about 6.1, but a good simple solution might be the decent little vncviewer program for windows mobile on sourceforge. works good on my htc wizard 100 (a.k.a. cingular 8125) running winmo 5.0. I use UltraVNC server on the PC - good encryption and the works. not sure whether the remote assistance or terminal services is as secure.

For me tihs is the best:

there's two big different strings of remote desktop programs, one logs you in and you have your pc's desktop on your device's display and you have the full pc experience, but, it logs you off on your pc, like pc to pc remote connection. the other one is to control your pc and still have the pc running for itself, just as an external control or HID device.
if you want the first, the full experience, i would recommend wm6 rdp, just google it, it is freemail and works like a normal remote desktop, meaning you need to configure your router and your pc to do that. it's freeware by the way. in general i would not use iton a blueangel, because 240*320 is just too little to have an overview of the pc's desktop, which, in my case has a resolution of 1680*1050. i do use that program on my universal though, and it works just fine.
the other thing is to use the HID, the bestestest program for that is ppc tablet, unfortunately it is not free, but it's great, you stay logged on to your pc and can control winamp and any other program, use your touchscreen as a touchpad, like a notebook's mouse, you have a lot of possibilities. here are some links you might want to have a look at, too.

will add more, when i found them, but you can also search for remote desktop in the forum and you find a lot of results, that might help you get it to work.
EDIT: here is the link i was looking for:

this is the official great round-up of the best remote desktop programs out there, you can look up, what you need, what and if you are willing to pay for that and the functuionality it offers

Thanks guys.. I will have a play about when I get the phone hopefully tomorrow. Basically what I need the phone todo, is turn on my desktop from standby, run shortcuts I have in my start menu of my playlists, control winamp and put my desktop pc back onto standby. Then I dont have to get out of my pit at all,. What would be nice aswel, if the phone could remember my password so I dont have to log on to windows each time.

oooh, i just saw... "turn on my desktop from standby", that could become difficult, since neither the real remote desktop services, nor the addon services can run in standby and realize your approach of access, for example: some services like ppc tablet (which would be great for your winamp uses) need a server program running on your pc and a client software running on the ppc, but technically the server wouldn't run in standby, and as i mentioned before rdp services do neither, the pc needs to be turned on and connected to your network to be accessable. plus there is no such thing as "power on wlan", so that wouldn't work either. putting the computer into standby isn't that much of a problem, with ppc tablet you can simply navigate the mouse cursor to do so, in rdp services there is no direct function for standby, because in the version you get on your screen, the start menu's shut down,... commands are changed, but you can make a shortcut on the desktop to do so. i don't know about the command now, but google certainly will.

I did try the wakeup on lan, when I tried it with my mates phone, and it did wake me pc up but the "Terminal Services Client" on his phone kept crashing for some reason, and winamp loaded but couldnt get it to play for some reason.

[Remote Access] Control Hermes from Desktop

Might someone know a program that will allow me to access my 8525 via remote control from my XP-Pro Desktop? There used to be one for WM2003 but I can not seem to find it and I rather doubt it would work for WM6 anyways.
BTW, I did find that I can control my XP Desktop from my 8525, that is pretty darn cool. I attempted to try from XP >> PDA but I guess that is not supported in that direction.
Thanks!
[PS I sure hope there is not already a thread on this for WM6 - I did attempt to search for one and came up zero].
http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro
Google is an amazing thing, you should try it sometime
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/wce/downloads/ppctoys.mspx
or soti pocket controller but that costs money, and I am sure there are a dozen other programs to do the same thing...
Thank you both [and for the Google suggestion]. While Google is a good thing for sure, generally it will not tell me that using a Non-Supported ROM [like with WM6 we are using] what x-software will be functional.
When I was using WM5 on my SX-66 I used a Remote Program and it really messed it up and I had to re-flash. So I was hoping to get some tips on what other users have used with Hermes/WM6 for remote access. Yes I know, Bah, Bah, bah....
With that said, the Google statement is still valid - I guess I was being a little to lazy.
no prob bro, if your running vista, for me atleast the microsoft powertoy remote control would lag during install sometimes, not sure why but I would run it and it would just sit there, so just a heads up if ur on vista, but it might not even happen to you.
I have WinXP Pro, Vista32bit and Vista64bit install on three different hard drives. For Vista I can not even get it to connect properly to my 8525, I gave up [temporally]! I am sure I can get it to work but when I brought the phone home on Friday I did not want to be fighting the darn OS.

Try My mobiler : www.mymobiler.com
Freeware
My Mobiler is an awesome application. The best thing is its free and actively developed!
Its way better than the commercial SOTI Pocket Controller pro which was around 40 bucks or something when i last saw.
Regards,
Carty..
thanks
this software works with phone sound? the sound of mobile phone exit from speakers?
if this software dont make calls have oder??
No sorry, but try it. Great to reconfigure all your stuff after a flash.
This software permit to control keyboard and mouse input from your PC to your PPC. You'll see the PPC screen in a window on your PC.
No sound transfer available but you can record a movie or snapshot.
Works with Activsync over USB or BT, and direct IP connection too
Yes, by remote desktop
Try this:
https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/Mobile/Home.aspx
You can try the trial and with this web app you can do the remote desktop, and access some information related to the system, like batery running process, event, and trensfer files.

Virtual Keyboard and Mouse

Hi all
I have been looking around and don't think one exists, But thought i might ask anyway. Does any one know of a program i can put on my phone the will allow me to use the keyboard of my phone as a virtual keyboard for my PC and the touch screen as a mouse. through a wireless connection kind of like those remote control applications work. Sure would be a cool app to have. Would never have to get off the couch again.
cheers
Here are about 7 options to solve your problem!!!!!
1. here is a freeware app that works the opposite way (use your keyboard and mouse from your computer to control your PPC)
http://www.trancreative.com/rkb.aspx
2. Search XDA-Devs for "bluetooth hid" and you will find a program that allows you to use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard with your win-mo phone
3. this program allows you to control certain applications from your PPC:
http://www.jaylee.org/remotecontrol/
I have used this one, and it is the best and it does exactly what you want and more, plus it is free!!!!!!!!!!1 The only problem I have found is that it is pretty unreliable and loses connection and has to be re-paired with bluetooth a lot.
4. This one does exactly waht you are looking for, except it costs 12$:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Telephony-SMS-GSM/Bluetooth-Remote-Control.shtml
5. logmein.com offers a free way to control your smartphone from your comp or vice-versa
6. If you have Vista, microsoft now has a SideShow client for windows mobile over bluetooth, so you can use your "gadgets" on your computer from your PPC.
7. If you want to spend a little money, you could always get the Logitech Dinovo Mini, I have it and it works great at controlling my PC, my PS3, and My pocket pc via bluetooth.
Amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220674781&sr=8-1
Or if you want something similar to the dinovo mini, you could go with this generic one:
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Kybr...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220674781&sr=8-2
If all else fails, you could always just use Remote Desktop from your PPC
reply to this message if you need any more help
RealVNC ?
How about the simple way of using VNC from RealVNC ? I use it from time to time, when I need to check something on my pc from the lunchroom @ work. I just use the VNC and use my work pc thru the wifi network.
It works great + it's free + it's 1 file open (no need for install so u can just keep it in your SD and make a link to programs if you want to.)

Touch Pro 2 WM 6.5 - Wierd Issue

Hi,
Just got the touch pro 2 and its awesome. I upgraded to WM 6.5, so I don't know if this post would be better in the Rom development folder, but here goes.
When I attempt to connect to my school wireless network it asks me to Download Cisco Clean Access Agent which is a utility that Windows Computers use to connect wirelessly. Previously with my HTC Trinity on the same Network w/ WM 6.5 and IE (not Opera) I was able to login using the web-login.
Basically Opera is saying the wrong thing and I obviously cannot run a Windows Login tool from WM6.5. Anyway work-around from the Opera stand point? Or should I use IE?
(BTW, I can't find IE on the phone anymore, maybe its not included...Does anyone have a CAB file for the New IE that normally is included w/ WM6.5?)

There should be a setting in the browser that allows the phone to be identified as either a mobile device or a PC. It's likely that the school network is seeing it as a computer and thus trying to install the software. Try changing the setting in the browser so that it is identified as a mobile device.
Thanks for info...any idea where that setting may be in Opera.. I checked the settings and Under Advanced I only found 3 checkboxes: 1 for Plug-ins, Cookies, and Javascript?
Under Display - there was a checkbox for Mobile View (which I tried, it only changed the way I saw the website, but it still asked me to Download the clean access program).
Report The Issue To Your School IT Staff
My university uses Clean Access, and there are ways it can be exempt certain IP-based devices. Smart phones, printers, scanners, etc. are all those kind of things.
Yes, you could tell Opera to mis-identify itself, but those of us who work in IT would rather do it properly and set rules to exempt devices. Yours will not be the first on your campus, so the sooner your IT department is able to get this issue on the radar screen, the better for all concerned. Help them help all students, not just solve your own issue.
Thanks, I'll go by and see what they do about it.

Windows Remote User?

Ok i have tinkered with it, but have not been able to get the Windows Remote To connect to my home pc, im at a loss and any help?
What i would like to do is be able to use my Excal via bluetooth or via wireless to connect to my pc and basically use it as a remote keyboard/mouse to run stuff..
I would prefer something free, or if you do know a program that has a trial and works as a trial that would be much appreciated.
Basically if anyone is smart enough to write a program, i want to use via bluetooth, the center button as a left click and the arrows around to move the mouse as a basic operation. Maybe add in a key to access the windows key, so i can activate windows media player and navigate it.
I am on windows 7x64 if that matters.

Plenty of threads with this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398282 hope that helps.
yah logmein is not working on mine, and i tried tightvcn and its even worse ....
Finally found the first thing i do not like about windows7 home premium... they left out letting you run a Remote Desktop Host on it.
