Some various questions after a few days experience with my TP2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi guys,
I have played intensively with my TP2 for a few days now and I must say once you find your way in this device it's great!!
However I still have a few minor questions, which I haven't find the answer to in the users manual or on this forum.
1. Is it possible to select different or custom icons for the e-mail accounts listed in a column on the right side when opening the main e-mail screen? I have 4 accounts and it would help a lot if I could instantly see which one is which...
2. Is it possible to change a setting so that sent e-mails are NOT automatically marked as unread but as read? It is just distracting when opening the e-mail account tree.
3. I am now using Lockmelite which is a great app, but I would like to have a "full screen" touch lock app. Any alternatives?
4. I have a problem when my TP2 is connected to my BT carkit (Prius). When I want to answer a call by pressing the pickup button on my steering wheel or dash screen, the ringtone suddenly plays over the car audio system, but it doesn't pick up how many times I press them. I have to pickup on the TP2. I have lockmelite set to unlock the screen on an incoming call if that makes any difference but I would really like this to work! I can't find any settings in the TP2 for this.
5. Is it possible to have the wifi auto connect to "known" networks? It now seems I have to connect manually every time I come home. I don't have to enter any authentication but I would like it to automatically connect instead.
That's it for now, thanks a lot!

Any way to have HD read aloud new messages?

Hi,
When I'm in my car and have my bluetooth headset on connected to my Touch HD, I would love an an application to detect that I have my headset on, and to automatically read allowed any new text messages or emails after, say, a delay of 10 seconds.
Does anyone know of any software that could do this?
Thanks!
Dave
Microsoft Voice command does this perfectly. It reads sms's and calender reminders and email subject lines and sender.

You can also set MSVC to only read messages over bluetooth/wired headset.
Great - this looks great. However if I look at the latest version (1.6) I see a number of comments in various places about it not working properly on the HTC Touch range of phones. For example see the comments at the bottom of the Hangago page here...

I have v1.6.1971 working on my Xperia (similar interface to Touch HD). I used spb pocket plus to add it to a "long button push".
You need to set it up in |START|SETTINGS|PERSONAL|VOICE COMMAND| and map a button to |START|PROGRAMS|ACCESSORIES|VOICE COMMAND|.
You'll also need to soft reset after installing and play around a little with the settings (i.e. uncheck "High Priority Messages only" in the messaging options etc.).
Can you download a trial to test it first?
The only problem I have is that it does not announce the caller for incoming calls. I assume because this does not work on the xperia that it will not work on other HTC devices too.

Announcement of incoming calls has been fixed in several of the cooked ROMs that include MS Voicecommand.
OK great - I'll download it and give it a try.
Matterhorn... do you know whether the fix that has been included in the cooked ROMs is available separately, as I don't want to replace my ROM...

I am using version 1.6.19209 with stock Orange rom, works great via speaker or bluetooth
Great - thank you! I'll have a go and report back.
OK so the update. I have successfully installed in (with a little help from the post over here), and have tested it with the basic functions, and it works OK. Not perfect with names, but for the basic things it works fine.
However, one of the main reasons, as you know, that I wanted this is so that it 1) works with my bluetooth hands free (a Plantronics Voyager 520) and reads out emails/texts over the bluetooth hands free when I'm wearing it. There is a setting in SETTINGS>VOICE COMMAND, where you can select "notifications" and select whether it notifies using "bluetooth hands free only", "over speaker if bluetooth is not available" or finally "only over speaker". However the notifications do not seem to be working at all - when I receive a text message, the phone makes the text message tone, it vibrates and nothing happens.
Am I doing something wrong?
[EDIT]:
I've just worked out the settings dialogue a bit more (i.e. you can select on each of the category of item and then press options)... Email is in there, but text messages do not seem to be in the list? Am I therefore to believe that text messages cannot be read out?

Mine reads out the header from an email and all of the text message. Both come under messaging in the tick boxes.Click on Messaging and under options tick Anounce new messages Under Notifications I have ticked "Announce notifications using bluetooth hands free if available.
Works fie for me on speaker, music headset and bluetoth
Try under Messaging>Options - delselecting 'High priority messages only'
And under Messaging>Notifications - deselecting 'Only during free time'
This worked for me.

Just to let you know, im using miri 6.5 v10 and voicecomand stopped any calls and messages being heard or felt. Same happened with davidueck 6.5 v8 so im guessing some roms dont work with it
For the guys that have it working, what roms are you running?
OK so the advice I've followed on this forum means I can now hear it announce text messages and emails and read them out! Great! And what is even more impressive is that it now works over my bluetooth headset too!
The ONLY thing that therefore doesn't work is the bluetooth headset being able to be used to speak commands to the phone. I was hoping that the button on my bluetooth headset that is usually used to answer or end calls would initiate MVC and allow me to control my phone from my headset. Any ideas why this wouldn't work?
Thanks
EDIT - ITS FIXED! Weird's I soft reset the phone and then held down the button my headset for a little bit longer and no its working fine! Brilliant.

Edit: OK glad it's working.
About incoming call announce question from a previous poster:
I've heard reports that with some newer roms the announce for incoming call doesn't work properly when MSVC is installed with a cab. The ROM cook has to hack in a fix...I don't think there is a cab to fix this problem.

phone book categories; divert to voice mail by category?

i use my TP2 for both personal and work, and its on 24/7, but i would like to automatically divert business calls(as defind in the caterogy section in outlook, when you hit edit contact - more)
ideally iwould like to be able to select a category and choose if i want ot divert that to voicemail
if it could also define it to auto divert the category based on day and time and if possible based on calender entry or defineable.
also if it could change my profile as well that would be amazing.
so does anyone know how i could go about doing this

I'd strongly recommend "Magicall" by Mobiion ( http://www.mobiion.com/magicall.html )
It can definitely divert via Category; not sure if it can do it by the type of number (business; home) as I've not tried that yet

that is perfect (on the face of it, havnt tested it in the field as yet) i just want to block certain people during certian times, and they are stored ascertain categories.
i hope that the "hang up" option diverts to my voice mail,
and to be able to SMS them as "sorry im on holiday" text is just the iceing on the cake
thanks

Yes - that's exactly what 'hangup' does (same as pressing the red button on any other mobile.
I do think it's a little confusing as to what magicall has named the following operations:
Magicall 'Ignore' = Do nothing, other than mute the ringer
Magicall 'Hangup' = Divert Immediately to voicemail (i.e. 'do not disturb')
I use Magicall primarily for handling outgoing International and/or calls to mobiles. I have different international calling cards set up, and whenever I dial anything other than a US domestic number I get Magicall to change the outgoing number and use a calling card. Saves me $$$, and allows me to use different calling cards for different countries/types of call automatically.
I'm considering writing a small app that will allow me to set and/or toggle individual rules within Magicall for a period of time (I often want to just hit a 'do not disturb' button as I get called into an unscheduled meeting, diverting most calls to VM without actually turning off the phone or manually creating a meeting to say I'm busy)
As you hit the button it would allow you to specify a time period; if that was about to expire the phone would vibrate to alert you, if you did nothing the rule would be re-enabled). I've only been using Magicall for a couple of weeks, but I think this would be a very useful addon (and would work well - there's already a command line interface for external apps to control rules)
If anyone thinks that would be useful, let me know - not sure how many Magicall users there are around here! (I'm not associated with them - just a happy customer!)

Desire email notification tone change

Hi guys,
Been doing a bit of searching, and can't find out if it's possible to choose a MP3 for email notifications. Could do it on the HD2 easy, and have a different tone for all notifications.
I can set a ringtone no probs, set the sms tone ok, just the email one I need a lift on.
Cheers
Darrin
did anyone find out how to do this ?
Not with the standard mail applications installed on the Desire. With K9mail it's possible.
of course you can do it.
Create a folder on the root of the sd card called 'notifications' (exactly like that but obviously without the quotes)
Put your MP3 in there.
In settings > sound and display, set the notification there. That is the setting that the default mail program uses.
then, to keep it different for SMS, go into the messaging application, and press menu>settings.
set the SMS tone there.
do the same in Google mail. open, menu, settings, set tone for google mail
this is extremely simple because nearly all programs have their own notification settings, and only the mail program seems to use the default one in settings.
how much more simple can it be?
That's a workaround, which i did actually know, but it doesnt alter the fact that you have the same tone for all other default notifictions, as well as the mail notifications.....
I just got my Desire HD and that seems to work for the the likes of GMAIL etc but Exchange just has this little beep and I can't see how to change this?
Post in the Desire HD forum for a start
Ok to V8Dave Eddy is correct as this may or may not work with your phone you are welcome to try it but if it doesn't might be better for you to get an answer in the DHD forum..
Anywho ---- There are 2 different notifications within the system that you can set .. The first is in settings>sound>notifications --- please note this will work for everything on your phone that needs a notification -- unless selected differently by program.. Your email will now have this notification .. To ensure it works start mail menu(hard button)>more>settings and turn the notification sound on
The second is hidden within the SMS app itself so start message>menu(hard button)>notification sound.. the SMS will now have a different sound to other notifications you may also be able to do the same with other apps i haven't checked them to be honest...
Now it should play seperate tones for sms and email and you can set your ringtone differently too ..
If that fails download LED me know http://www.xda-developers.com/android/customise-notifications-with-led-me-know/ from the market That should enable different notifications for several apps in one go

Switching off "Bluetooth disconnected" message

Every time I leave my car, thus breaking the Bluetooth connection, the phone throws up an information message telling me that Bluetooth has disconnected. An irritating message which I then have to cancel.
Can anyone please tell me a fix or registry tweak that will switch off these messages? I use "Avance Config" but can't find anything in there to stop them.
Cheers.
start-settings - sounds and notifications - notifications on bottom and then from the drop down list, select bluetooth and uncheck display message on screen
Many thanks for the response. However, on my phone Bluetooth does not appear in that drop-down list. Only a generic "Reminders", which, as that includes calendar alarms, I need.
I installed hAndynotify and it worked a treat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563592
Perfect. Ideal. Job done!
Many thanks indeed.

Regarding call forwarding, I believe you can achieve this by using codes in the phone dialer. I saw it in one of the tip documents (but I agree would be good to have in settings).

I can confirm that the call forwarding options have to be set using the Network codes. Don't understand why you are not able to do this in the settings. Hopefully this will come with an update in the near future.
- ringtones volume, media volume and games sound/music volume are the same, caused me missed the calls last night.
- no official WLM from microsoft
No communicator/wlm is disappointing.

Word is the WP7 does not yet support rSAP. This is very much needed for Bluetooth handsfree car usage. Especially important in Europe where you must BY LAW use handsfree phone.
Re delivery notifications; the problem is network dependent isn't it? I don't think each SMS is individually identifiable on the network. So if I send two text messages to one number and only one is delivered, which one would be marked delivered?
I don't think this feature is supported on any device?

Not sure on whether you can't identify which SMS gets through or not but I would have thought that each SMS would have pretty much have it's own UID and therefore could
Re delivery notifications though, you are spot on. It's carrier/network dependant. O2 have never supported/provided SMS delivery (although you can get a report from MMS which is odd). Phones do support reporting of message delivery though.
Yeah, sorry that wasn't clear, phones do support the messages and some phones do treat them differently, eg my old Nokia 7210 flashes delivery notices on screen rather than just telling em I have a new message. But I don't think any phones can have an inbox that has a tick or a cross next to each message depending on whether it's been delivered because the messages don't have a UID. Happy to be corrected on that but with the SMS standard being as old as it is I don't think it's a given that each message has a unique ID.
- no support for hidden wireless (personal and enterprise)!
- no real outlook sync....
- missing rotation features in some hubs e.g. the cam
- filtering option in contact-news
- maybe a gallery from facebook friends in pictures
- a second page for marketplace apps/hubs ?
like my htc trophy and its great for a 1.0 but i hope microsoft will update soon... f.e. on every Patchday ???
Here's my 5p worth:
- No Static IP's possible on WiFi
- I actually hate the Metro GUI or whatever they call it. I'd love to be able to completely change my homescreen
- No Desktop Background, only for locked screen. Goes hand in hand with the above
- Did I say I hate those squares?
I generally feel that this OS is a bit like Marmite. You either love it or you hate it. Nothing in between. Which is a bit crap. If it was more adjustable and customizable I would be happier. That's why I like Android.

Both Android and my Sony phones supported delivery notifications. The sony implementation was very good with a simple tick or cross next to the message. Android is a bit messy but does work on a per message basis. SMS messages include a header (much like an email) that you don't see on the phone and this contains all the information individually identifying the message.

Other than that, I am happy, wondering where the 50-60 xbox live games a launch went though.
haven't gotten my windows phone yet so can't help you there on first point. as for the second point, supposeably ringtones can be set by apps and are meant to become available in the market place, but i agree, i would prefer to be able to set mine rather than purchase.

Anyone that claims they love this OS is either on the Microsoft payroll or they are deceiving themselves because they find it too difficult to face the realisation that they upgraded to something with fewer features than their old phone.
The most important thing this OS lacks: File management. Don't make me dig up those old threads!

first outlook syncronisation:
the only way to have all your contacts, calender from outlook in your phone is trough an exchange or copying all into windows live.. no active sync until now
second filtering:
in facebook you have so much things you "like" and games... all those messages spamming your contact news... no chance to see only your friends messages from facebook.
third gallery:
In the gallery I only have a set of my Facebook pictures, but would be nice if there where also those of my friends
fourth second page:
I find you miss the overview of microsoft apps from the phone and those you are downloading from the market. If there were two seperate pages.. one phone 7 .. second downloaded apps, would help finding apps.
