Touch Pro 2 with an invisble sheild - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey guys,
I wonder if you noticed that the back of your device has some kind of invisle sheild applied on it.
Take a close look next to the volume keys
Also, in the back of the lcd, as well as around the keyboard, to avoid scratches between the lcd and the keyboard when sliding
I wonder if all this shielding is a "lifetime shielding" or if it was applied only for transport reasons...
HastaSSSS

good find, not sure how long much they are supposed to protect.
the only 1 found apart from on the screen was the 1 behind it.

Nobody else found it? Or did you guys just rip it off?
HastaSSSS

Oh damn I didn't see it))) I won't rip it off... I'll wait until first fall or etc. .... so I can take it off)

It's a nice protection against the sliding of the screen. I guess after a while the screen get looser and the sliding doesn't scratch the plastic?

Think so to.
Man that you spottet the protection at the volume buttons :O o also see it now. Is it plastic that i can pull off or is it a solid kind of protection that isn't removable?

OH CRAP I took them off
I thought they were meant to be taken off like those that sticks on your LCD monitors ARGH.. can see a few scratches due to the keyboard slides

What about the plastic on the back of the device? near the volume buttons? can you also take that off or is that some kind of protection that you cant take off?

yes, i also saw that, and i also saw something like this on the hardware keyboard, have a look. you guys should see the same

They are already peeling off on mine (around the keyboard at least), and only after 3 days

The protections on 1 side of the keyboard came of when sliding it open a few times. The rest is still in place and I'll leave them there till they start to peel.

I took the 3 off the keyboard off, they didn't look like they were supposed to be permanent as they came off easy.
Can see the one on the back, anyone take this off?

I noticed the ones around the kedyboard, but not the one on the back.
The piece tol the right of my keyboard had peeled already, but I'll leave the others to stay or peel off through use.

Did anybody notice...?

The little plastic bits at each side of the keyboard. I've just noticed them now. They're like the screen protecter film you get on electronic devices. I wonder if they indicate areas of possible wear and tear
Yes ... they are at the rear of the keyboard and on the underside of the screen half as well.
I found with mine that at the back there were a couple of scratches in this plastic indicating that the mechanism was so tight that it did mark. Hard to say what it would be like over time.
Did you check your PM re the screen ?
Also ... can you confirm your tilt is very stiff ... particularly the initial movement ... and that when you push the screen back down, just before it goes flat ... that you get a distinct click like a dislocation ?
Paul.

Paul, I just got mine today and you are right, the tilt is stiff at the initial movement and it also has a click (mechanical) sound just before it goes flat.
as far as scratches are concerned, there are none that i can see.
however, there seems to be a gap between the keys and the screen panel, so there should be no problem in that area pertaining to scratches or friction.
Any sign of that pinched top surface about 1/2" down from the top as the front surface touches the left chrome edge ?

Well if the screen is facing towards me then this is happening on the right side surface. Also the protector on the right side (of the keyboard) is a bit worn out so may be that is the reason.
Do you think removing the protector (from either sides of keyboard) will result in scratches?
I too have a stiff one. Yes, the tilt. And when I tilt it back again it has a click. I think the phone feels strong and well-made. I'm already happy with it.
Gutted that I screwed up putting the screen protector on.

The left-hand plastic managed to get tangled up in the slide mechanism this morning. Was a bit of a mission to get it out but I'm just gonna get rid of that bit. Will leave the right side on for the time being.
Incidentally, the screen protector in the box is very soft and gets marked really easily!

If you remove one, I would remove the other one too. Otherwise on side of the screen will experience more friction, what can't be good for the ballance.
I knew you lot would get all double entendrey with that post. For the record, I've been playing with it lots all over the weekend and it's not got any softer. Still nice and firm.
Don't. Just don't.

Did you remove the protective film on your keyboard?

As the title says, did you remove the protective film on the keyboard?
There's three of them. One left, one right and one on top.
There's also a fourth big one on the back of the screen (visible when tilted).
Some people say it's meant to be there and you shouldn't remove them.
Others say it's just there to protect during transportation and that they should be removed.
I have no idea, but removed them because one came a bit loose.
Does anyone know what HTC has to say about them?

Same as me , but I removed only the left & right ... the rest is still tight
Same here, left and right came loose so they're off. Have noticed the left side slider is leaving a mark that can be rubbed off, I imagine it will cause a scratch eventually.
Possibly replacing with a custom cut out invisi shield would help but would need to take the phone apart to apply it correctly... would need to be done under warranty.
had my TP2 for a month now and the protective firm is still on there, i also left the one behind the screen and added the screen protected that came with the phone. The reason why i didnt took it off is that i saw it was leaving marks so i was afraid it will leave scratched and prolly soon i will sell it so i dont want it to be scratched up.
leaving mine intact even though the one to the right of keyboard is coming lose.
One on the right is a bit loose but shall keep it on until it falls half way off. I wonder if you can get replacements. He he he...

LOL.. I even didn't noticed it at all! So I just removed it.. and like e-Way mentioned; I removed only the left & right, the rest is a bit hard to get rid off!
My left one has crumpled up and is coming off now, I imagine it will scratch quite badly given time as the plastic is already hammered and its not yet a week old.
Messa
My right one rumbled up when closing the keyboard, scaring the hell out of me!
So I removed the left one myself.
Never noticed the one above the keyboard, and on the back, until I read about it here
I took all mine off, because I could see they were gonna fall off in time anyway, and tbh, I thought they made my glossy device look a bit tatty. I have no nasty looking wear marks after a month of heavy use.
none of them came loose but i can see scratch marks on the side. im gonna leef them on as long as possible.
Mine are getting loosened by sliding it in to the Brodit Tytn II holder (which it fits perfectly!). So I may need to trim the ones either side of the keyboard back a bit.
mine was loose also so stripped it off. And didnt want to seem too precious about my phone... it is just a phone anyway... (The me a year ago wouldnt say this but after giving birth, my perspective has changed... but still love my phone though, not just with the same passion before )
My TP2 is send to HTC for repairs, one of the problems i mentioned were the loose protective films (the other problems had to do with battery-charging problems, bad responsive keys on the keyboard, loose on/off-button and TouchFlo3D startup problems).
According to (at least two) HTC-helpdesk employees these three films should not be removed and could be repaired (more like replaced) under guarantee.
Many people on a dutch forum tell me i'm crazy that i've put this problem on my list to HTC, but if they wanna repair it, and i don't get scratches on my device that way... who's crazy then
Came loose, and removed them.. i only saw scratch marks on the protective film, still no marks without them..

Yeah, that's exactly what I had.
Marks with the film, but none without them.
Still, just to make sure, I cut up some clear tape and applied that to the left and right side. It's thinner, but I can already see some marks on it... strange.

Yes but I bet your phone doesnt wake you up 3 times a night and demand feeding !
The sticker on the left of the keyboard came loose last week. I peeled it away. There's no significant 'damage' to the paint as of yet - don't really expect there will be any.
I'm not sure if we're supposed to peel them off or to let them be. The device looks better without those ugly reflecting stickers. But I'm tempted to let them be until they form a problem (e.g. peel off).
I would no way return my device for a stupid protective sticker coming off though. It's not that big a deal - to me.
On day one I removed the right and the left film on the keyboard.
Still no marks without the film.
I have mine now for almost a month.
So how about the one on the back of the tilting screen. What did you guys do with that?

Keyboard glide protector came off - what to do?

Hi all,
Just day ago baught TP2 and it's great. but today got in problem.
there are invisible glide protectors on side of keyboard, and from one side this protector came off - and now every time I open it, it's more and more coming off.
so what you think? is it possible to get new them somewhere? or it's sefe just to remove them? all of you have the same at their phones?

That is the normal protectors installed from factory, during manufacturing for product quality reasons. I admit that they really protect the plastic from getting scratched. But as mentioned in the manual, you should remove it from the phone itself (both glide stickers, the upper sticker in the keyboard, near the hidges, the back screen cover sticker and the front sticker protecting the screen). To substitute, I must say that problably you should cut some plastic clear sticker (same used to protect book covers) with the size and format of the sticker removed and attached in the glide sections to protect it from scratches of opening and closing the keyboard.
thank you very much for your info.
but can you say me where exactly did you find info about removing this protectors? I just looked in manual what was on CD with my phone for word "protect" and not found any info about that.
and yes, I saw that those protectors had scratches, they were noticeable - but with time they will become more and more visible (more scratches, dirt around them e.t.c) + I don't think I can cut them so accurate as they were...
so all owners of T2? did you remove these protectors? did you got there scratches after removing them?
P.S.: Black Phoenix you leaved your protectors also? just on keyboard?

At the moment I have all the protectors, because I'm waiting for my Screen Protector from Proporta. The others in the keyboard I will keep, mainly because I bought a phone with the keyboard but I only use the screen one, not the physical one (so If I had open the keyboard 10 times since I had the phone was too much).
If it is a clear sticker than obviously you remove it once it wears out and live with it....
yep, I got it. but hope to hear from other owners who already removed them, what experince they got - any scratches or nope?
Mine is sliding off on the left side only. I was just going to slice off the part that is crinkling up and keep the rest of it on. I don't want to find out if it will get scratched or not.
I removed the ones on the sides as i knew they were merely their from the factory and not actually their to protect during use. I dont have any scratches on the keyboard.
The back one, under the middle of the screen i havent removed because it looks like it would be too much of a pain to try. So im just waiting till it starts to come off on its own.
if you're concerned about being able to cut them as precise as the originals just use an exacto knife. Just put the plastic piece over the plastic you will use to replace it and trace it with the knife.
i just cut off the tips on both sides as it was crinkling up, kept the rest of it

just rip it off and live with it dude... I took the film cover off of my Xperia and nothing happened to my keys. If you are worried about the glossy back scratching than you obviously have too little things to worry about.
And if you are that person than obviously you can afford a second one because taking it off won't damage any phone.

well if really, I don't worry about back side scratches and about other minor things all I see now it's two stickers what are located on the left and right sides from the keyboard (i don't see so space in xperia), this space is used for gliding - so every time you are opening keyboard, two small stands from the back of the screen sliding in this area, where these stickers are - and after two days of using this device - this stickers are pretty scratched. so I decided to ask, if it's safely to remove or it's they needed to be replaced and seems like I'll finish by removing them both.
but anyway other owners experience is welcome

Just like I said........ the back side get's scratched....
unless you are talking about the sticker that is most likely found on the bottom half (the half that is on the same plane as the keyboard).
If so, then I hope it only scratches everything but the qwerty keys.

I took it off within a couple days, cause thats when i noticed they were even there lol. Its hard to say how often i open it. I generally text with the keyboard all the time (vs using the on screen one). Some days ill send 4 or 5 text messages, some i wont send any.
I dont think any of us has really had it long enough to even accumulate scratches from simple wear and tear. What you have to realize is that plastic film, is the same kind they wrap EVERYTHING up with. It was on my 46" LCD (the frame i mean) as well as both of my 19" monitors (also the frames). They wrap electronics up in that crap to keep it from getting scratched during manufacturing and shipping, but it rarly ever looks good left on.
My point? it isnt meant for long term protection. Just rip it off and run with it. The plastic housing is the same material/texture as what they use on laptops (least on mine) so it will take the wear and tear. I suspect over time it will develop 'slide' marks on it, but it wont take anything away from the device itself.

I'am sure that we are talking about the same things but anyway I attached photo to this post, with marked RED scratches on the sticker, and marked in BLUE came off part of this sticker.
all my previous HTC phones herlad and wizard had special sliders - where the display glides, here it glides on the viewable area and it don't seems really very scratch resistance, so it's confused me.
the protector at the middle top of the keyboard, and the one behind the screen
i wonder whether sliding is affected by the 2 protectors?
I had 4 protectors: screen protector, behind screen one, and two at keyboard - on it's sides (on of them you can see on my photo), so while gliding only these 2 protectors are affected.
i removed the small one at the middle top of the keyboard
now the sliding is smoother!
i am left with the one behind the screen... should i remove..?
ok... i removed the one at the back
and now the sliding action is super smooth

Scratched Keyboard?

Has the back of your screen & slider mechanism scratched your keyboard?
Post which carrier you got your Touch Pro 2 from.
Tmobile US TP2
Yes, its starting to scratch. Damn i wish that plastic never fell off.
TELUS Can TP2
Same here
Key T and Y got some on the right side of the letter(s)
I did put a small peice of screen protector behind the phone to reduce the effect..
TELUS TP2 CAN
my film just peeled off today, but im going to cut a small piece of screen protector to the back of the lcd panel.. this should stop it from scratching and solve any future issues....
Tmobile TP2 here... Mine isn't a scratch, more like a smear on both sides of the keyboard where the protective film was. If I wipe it off with my finger, it goes away.
I think it depends how you open/close it as well. If your fingers are pushing it kinda downwards to slide it open then yea I'm sure it'll scratch.
wierd thing is that it only smears on the right side on my own
T, Y and U wearing on top and a light double scratch on the silver edge next to the O and P.
And I don't use the keyboard much!
post some pictures guys ...
I have a Sprint TP2 and I've not removed the protective plastics on the sides of the keyboard and at the back of the LCD.
This is just after my first week of use and I am spotting obvious wears on the plastics by the side of the keyboard, the one at the back of the LCD is not too visible but wear exists when looked closely. Also, I've felt a slight nig when sliding out the keyboard since I first had the phone. It makes me think that the zits on the F and J keys are rubbing against the upper half of the phone.
Mine are pretty deep.
holy hell, no kidding! mine are no where near that bad
I swear I posted something like this already?
Anyways yea mine is scratched!!!!!
Nothing I cant deal with tho.
@Maedhros you did, but this was already one that i started last month

Sliding Causes Scratches?

Hey guys. I have the Telus HTC Touch Pro2, and I have noticed a problem. The part where the touch screen half of the phone makes contact with the keyboard part, causes a scratch on the keyboard part. There was plastic on this part before, but I removed it, and now it is scratching. I don't mind this, but just wanted to warn ppl not to remove the plastic.
I will post pics tomorrow.
I had a little piece of plastic just on the right side of the keyboard. I removed this, because I tought I missed it with unpacking my TP2. But now there is a little woggle(? mean little space between screen and keyboard), so everytime I press the screen on that side of the device I can feel and hear the two parts coming together. It's really annoing and it started when I removed the little piece of plastic. For my feeling it's a last fast hot fix by HTC.
But i don't see scratshes yet. I can see dirt on the left and right of the keyboard where the sliding is, but I can easily remove this. But on the longer term, I think there will be permanent 'dirt' aka scratches on both sites....but hey, when you don't want this to happen, put your device away and don't use it
Scratches fix.
As soon as i opened my TP2, i knew the clear plastics were for protection so i left them. In time the one on the right started to peel itself off. THE FIX... I removed it completely and colored it BLACK with a Sharpie Marker, pulled out some transparent scotch tape out of my drawer and carefully traced/cut it out with a sharp razorblade. Carefully stuck it back on and VOILA! A perfectly new replacement a-la' Jerry Rig! Maybe you can cut out 2 pieces ontop of one another to reduce the play when closed? Time = Approx. 10mins.
Hey guys. Yea I just wanted to leave this as a warning to other tp2 owners who thought the plastic was just packaging.
I can't take any pictures since the only other camera is a phone. It dosen't capture the scratches properly.
I left the stickers on. However, as it turned out later, one of the stickers wasn't applied properly. Eventually, the sliding motion caused that sticker to come off and bend just a little at one corner. I cut the bent part off, and the whole thing came of a few days later.
When you get your phone, make sure those stickers are applied properly, and squeeze out air bubble from underneath if needed.
