Er. . nothing. Mine plays quite happily with the screen off

Mine doesn't I was playing music through bluetooth to the car and screen goes off and media player stops playing until I hit the power button again (I need to find out what the app name is of the media player as well so I can add it as an exception into slide to unlock)

Is that HTC media player or Windows media player?
The HTC one ( the one on the music tab) works fine streaming to my car radio with the screen off. WMP turns off with the screen tho'

I haven't found a fix for this either =( When I use my stereo bluetooth headset all is fine: I can press the power button, device goes into suspend, music keeps playing. But when I'm playing music through the speaker - as I like to do in the morning in the shower - music playback stops when pressing the power button.
I found a registry setting for the HTC audio manager (hkey\localmachine\software\htc\audiomanager_eng\config\enter_suspend) but it didn't do anything =(

It's the HTC media player (one on the tab) you don't happen to know the actual file name that is run when you select it from the tab do you?

I have the same problem with TouchFLo Music tab... power button and stop music!

I have the same problem with the built in player - Core player & Pocket music player although that freezes & generally is unstable - dunno why it was perfect on my X1.

I have a small problem (I don't think I had it before)!
when I put Music tab from TouchFlo playing and press power button the sound stops!
does it happens to you? how can I solve it?
thanks

This is the way it's meant to be.
If it's playing through speakers, the sound stops by pressing the power button. If it's playing through headphones, you can press power and it will still play.

is there anyway to change it in the registry so that we can turn the device off and still play it through the speakers. TP2 got 2 good speakers so it would be nice to leave it in the table and listen music without hearphones

I used S2U2 lastest version, run S2U2 Settings > Advanced > check on "Don't Suspend Power" > Save > Yes, and my TP2 can play music when device off

A2DP: poweroff -> music stops!

Hi,
with my wizard and wm6 when I pushed the poweroff button while listening to music with a2dp, the music continued so it was perfect.
But now I have a trinity with LVSW rom and when I push poweroff the music stops.
Somebody know how to change it in order to have music continously playing?
Thanks!
Same with most, if not all HTC phones do this. VERY annoying! And I would like this fix as well...
same. any one know a fix?
Power Off suspends the device, so all processor based activity will stop, including the player program playing the music, though BT itself will remain active.
The 1st poster with the Wizard- that is not normal behaviour, and it is probably that the power button was remapped to 'Screen Off' when using the Player program.
What you need to do, is open WMP (if that is your player) and go to Options/Buttons. Within the list is a 'Toggle Screen' item. Map a button to that, and then when you press the button, the screen will blank, but the player will continue with A2DP. Pressing the button again, or the power button will restore the screen. As the screen is the biggest user of power, this will conserve your battery. I think you can also elect to lock other buttons with teh screen off, to prevent unwanted actions.

Hi Neil,
Most certainly you are right on this, I've seen devices that had the "Screen Off" assigned to the Power button by default, so instead of going to suspend, the backlight was turned off.
To toggle Audio to A2DP you might want to see:

I'd like to know how it works on your hardware.

Are you using HTC Audio Player or Windows Media ?
On my device, I'm using HTC Audio Player, included on HTC Home and it works fine. My ROM is Faman's ROM 3.3.
For sure, on Faman's ROM 3.3 in spanish, it souhld be the same.
Spanish :
Intentalo con la ROM de Faman ES 3.3 que funciona bien. Puedes apagarlo y sigue tocando musica.
Same, I use HTC Audio Player from PDAViet's latest rom.
Music plays fine after you suspend it
If you use GS player, you can bind another key to "screen off + key lock" which will effectively do the same thing
I second that request. My xda flame acts the same, and it is not normal behaviour (there is more than one suspend state and one of them is supposed to keep BT active). I hope it's not hardware and can be fixed.

No I can confirm it worked this way with htc's prophet also.. whatever player you use it won't stop when going to standby. And with same players on other devices it will stop.
Am currently digging into registry, will post if I find something....

I think it just prevents the device to go to suspend while bluetooth is active, but then the battery drain is bigger..
The best until a solution is found is to turn the screen off

No, this has nothing to do with device being suspended or turn off.
It only prevents bluetooth to break connection when device is suspended.
Please try this and report here.
@lastnikita: unfortunately it does not work with our xda flames, but it works well with a prophet and wizard.
If you want then you can check the 'Blank Screen' option in CorePlayer. I hope it will help you.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Media Player/Preferences
Set "unattended play" to "1"

Well, that's what was said here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms884944.aspx
And I could just check it.
Prophet and wizard don't have that problem (I had 4 prophet and the author of the thread had a wizard) so they don't need any trick..

HTC WM6 PreRelease - WMP Bug

Windows Media Player Music:
If you play music using the integrated WMP - power management will not work as expected - Display light will never turn off. Still the same if you press the home button during playback.
If you lock your device during playback, backlight will be dimmed but remains on.
--> Your battery will be empty very shortly if you use your device as MP3 Player.
Windows Media Player Video:
First - landscape registry key still works.
But if you play a video in fullscreen mode you can do this only for a few seconds before it switches back to normal skin mode.
--> You cannot really view any video on your device
Please, can anyone confirm this.
Are these known bugs for HTC which are be fixed in the final release?
Are there any workarounds?
I confirm this bugs, i have Wm6 HTC Test ROM to, and the WMP have this problems.
I use now the Audio Manager and Pocket Player software.
Regards
what about using TCPMP?
do you have the same problems with it?
It's a WMP player bug inside the current HTC pre-release of WM6.
TCPMP works like expected.
confirm bug, but the battery is not so terrible..
1.) Install RUU_Excalibur_HTC_RUS_1.24.411.1_4.1.13
2.) Change Language to US
3.) Do not dock your device
4.) Start WMP and play a song
--> Backlight never will turn off
5.) Press the HOME button
--> Backlight still remains on
6.) LOCK your device
--> Backlight will be dimmed
I can reconstruct this bug very easily on 3 devices following exactly the steps above. If this doesn't happens on your device please let us know what's different.

If I use my device as MP3 player and do not lock the device --> the battery will be empty in less than 2 hours. (Full backlight - always on)
If you lock it the battery will be empty in less than 5 hours (Backlight dimmed).
So from my point of view this is a terrible bug.
using audio manager saves the day
Audio Manager Bug.... when anounce names are kept on.. the ring for mobile rings for just 2-3 secs.....
announce names is what?

has anyone found a fix for this yet?
bug fix?
Anyone have a solution to the wmp backlight problem yet? I mainly use wmp because it allows me to use my stereo bluetooth headset buttons to control the music, and works best when making calls using ms voice command.

Possible to Play mp3 in TouchFLO with screen off?

I wonder if possible cuz I want to save battery
Whenever I press the power button when playing music, the music stop. I have tried to play music and wait for the screen goes off itself but it stay on forever.
i want to know it too,
btw the backlight wont turn off automatically coz the device status is "used" while media playback
Hi
There is an answer to what you want, it called Nitrogen Player.
The Player is really (really) good as a solid MP3 player and it has a function button on-screen to turn off the display and keep playing, excellent for the battery and putting in the pocket while listening to your MP3's.
The proggy is free and is something I use all the time on my TP2, full credit to the developer.
Get it here:
http://code.google.com/p/microfi-nitrogen/
Hope this helps.
Jabberoo
I am actually using the coreplayer which also have the ability to turn off the screen while playing.
But thx anyway
Touchflo3d : plug in headphones or a headphones based accessory and it will let you turn off the screen while still playing.

Disabling the native media player on the Touch Pro 2

How do you disable the native media player on the Touch Pro 2 so that you can use your Bluetooth headphones controls to play another media player? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
I've never disabled the native HTC media player, I just installed another app (Nitrogen in this case), and I've had no trouble listening to that and controlling it through my BT stereo headphones
Thank you - will try Nitrogen & see it that does the trick.
Hey master, I was actually playing around with Nitrogen some more last night, and I discovered a few things. First....when I hit the "pause" button on my bluetooth headphones, it doesn't actually pause the player (like it does when I use windows media player on the phone), it just interrupts the audio stream going to the headset, the player actually keeps playing. And, for some reason, it also causes the HTC Media tab to pop up.
I'd never realized these behaviors until last night, but I thought they might influence your search for a media player. I know the BT controls on the headphones will directly control all functions in WMP just fine, but that's obviously not the best (and definitely not the "leanest") media player available and I'll be checking out other replacement options for it today too. I'll post back here when I confirm which one(s) work the way we want for the BT controls (aka "AVRCP" profile)
Sirphunkee, That's the issue I have with the HTC media player using Bluetooth. If I press ffwd or rew, the HTC player starts playing over the 3rd-party player (i.e. Core Player, Pocket Music, etc.). I would use the native player - if it had an equalizer (maybe I'm asking for too much, LOL) & WMP is "okay" at best in sound, but is a battery hog. Thanks again & now you know my pain,
Also, for some reason, my playlists don't show in Nitrogen.
Yeah, the reason I didn't realize at first that the HTC media player was kicking in is becasue I don't have any music in it's default folder, it's all on my SD card, so the HTC player pops up but just continuously shows "searching...", so it never started playing anything over the music I already had on.
But yeah, I'm sure there's registry keys somewhere that tell the phone what to do (i.e. calling up the HTC player) whenever AVRCP commands are received...if they can be routed to activate/control the HTC player, they should be able to be redirected to the player of choice.
Keep looking, I'm doing the same (well, whenever my boss isn't walking by lol)

The attached cab should clear that up. Copy it to your phone, and run it from there, and your music should stay playing even when the screen is off
It would help if you indicate what program you are using to play music.
If you are using the HTC music player, it should keep playing if you turn of the screen, as long as headphones are plugged in.
I use coreplayer and the one that SirPhunkee posted works very well to keep the music on when screen is off.
sweet! gonna give this a try..I've tried Screen-Off cab or whatever it was called, but it didn't work IIRC..
been listening to Slacker radio while driving, especially at night, now I don't have to keep the phone screen down to avoid the brightness..
Use S2P player
